Recently had lunch at the restaurant because I wanted to take my son to have his favorite pancakes. Food was Great! I gave it a 2-star because there was a philipino lady with black short hair up to her shoulders and wears glasses who serviced us and it literally took decades till we were done. She was kind but very slow. We spent a total of 2 hours in the restaurant just to eat lunch. My goodness we waited for more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive and we seen other customers who arrived after us and getting their food before us. Poor thing my 3 yr old son was starving half to death. So we finally got our food and for sure I ordered both our drinks as large to get refills. Unfortunately we got no refills at all. my drink Sat on the table empty the whole time she didn't bother to refill or ask if I wanted a refill. Terrible service. Also I asked if I could get take out plates for our leftovers and the check , I'm sure it doesn't take another 30 minutes just to grab the check and a few takeout plates my goodnessssss! This woman brought food to all the customers sitting around us real quick and I'm wondering why ours was late. This is the Zippy's that took my Zippy's virginity. Just like loosing your real virginity after eating my meal, I thought "that was it?" somewhat disappointed in the experience as I had been holding off so long to have my first bite of Zippy's only to find out similar to teenage sex it wasn't that spectacular. My friend ordered eggs and assorted breakfast meats and I ordered the often raved about chicken and waffles. I can assure you that I know this meal may have been better had it have been served hot, but alas...a bit of a let down. Granted, I frequent this Zippy's due to It's location; we tend to stop here for a quick bite. Other times, we hold breakfast / lunch meetings here due to its convenient location. HOWEVER, today was a terrible experience day here. Upon being seated, our host, Kai (poor guy) ditched us because he accidentally stepped in small doggie poop near one of the first booths we came upon. He justifiably freaked out and ran into the back room / service area. Me and my 4 children were left midway in the restaurant "hanging". We had to ask another waitress where we could sit. Once we were seated--and the other customers near the poop were relocated throughout the restaurant--we received quick service. HOWEVER, when we went to wash our hands (everyone was ordering burger and fries and we just came from the skatepark), the restrooms in both men & women's smelled beyond DISGUSTING! We had to hold our breath to quickly wash our hands. It's baffling and UNACCEPTABLE to have a food establishment that doesn't pay attention to these basic hygienic needs for the customers. It use to cost around 15$ for oxtail soup...... How does it go from 15$ to 24$ for oxtail soup and the pieces of oxtail is not even generous...... This is the worst zippy's ever, let's just start with the fact that it was slow. we saw our waitress 3 times 1st was to take order next was to bring food and drinks and lastly check there was no checking on us no refill of water or juices that we paid extra for. The Korean fried chicken was good but unfortunately that was it. My sons pizza didn't have enough cheese to even cover the sauce on the pizza. My daughter had French toast with bacon and egg and we asked for soft bacon and it was crispy border line burnt. I am truly disappointed in the service and quality of food. The reasons Zippy's wins so many "Best of" awards are: 1) They're ubiquitous. 2) They're open 24 hours when most others are closed. 3) They offer a decent variety of food. 4) Parking is usually easy. 5) They have dine-in and take-out options. 6) It's a good meeting spot. 7) They have contests for seniors. The reasons I personally don't vote for them are: 1) Lack of value. The portion sizes are small as a function of price. 2) Pricey for what little you get. More than $7 for a mini? A rip off. Dine-in is $2 more! A full complete meal with soup/salad, roll & dessert is almost $15. 3) They will often screw up your orders. I've learned to check the take-out order BEFORE going home. 4) With all the money this company makes, they are very unaccommodating with substitutions and WILL charge you for it! 5) The food is pretty mediocre. 6) The specials end at 9:30 pm nightly but sometimes run out much earlier than that. 7) The bathrooms smell like sewer. 8) "Zippy's" does NOT equate to "fast service". 9) They have contests for seniors. And those discount cards- for seniors. And I'm not one of them..yet.. Goes to show a restaurant just has to build a brand in major towns and be open all the time, and toss in a contest, cater to seniors, and people will come; and they can charge what they want, for below average food. This makes two years since my last review at this location. Figured me and my girlfriend would get a late night snack after a long day. I had the Portuguese bean soup and she had the spaghetti and garlic bread. Soup was ok, but seemed like the veggies weren't as soft as before. But what had us shocked was the garlic bread! Ordered the Meatloaf (Tuesday Special) for phone order pick up. They told me it would be 15 minutes, however, I was near by & there in 5. The window was so lined up that it was causing traffic on the street, so I just parked & went to the counter-phone order wonder line. Within about a 10 min timeline (which they told me 15mins, so I was early), and happy to have my food ready to go! BUT, as I got my food, my meatloaf wasn't even hot, nor was the gravy. Very disappointing considering that I went there to get a nice hot meal. The other thing that was disappointing, is that they don't allow corn as a substitute for Mac salad as pictured in the online menu that I ordered from. Why have a picture for an online take out order if it's ONLY allowed in dining? AND why not? Isn't it the same kitchen? Corn is a much healthier option than mac salad, it should be allowed for the take out orders as well. I regularly have nothing but good things to say about Zippy's Vineyard, but I've noticed a slight decline in the service there. This place is great for food on the go and something different from the mainland. It is also great after you have had a few drinks and the late night hours roll around and you want some chili cheese fries. The portuguese sausage, eggs, and brown rice makes a great breakfast. (yes, they even offer brown rice if you ask for it with any dish!) Another one of my late night favorites here are their chili cheese nachos. They are huge! Great for sharing. I can only comment on the dessert. Came here on the way to the botanical gardens and ordered the strawberry cake ( flavor of the month) and the coconut sweet potato tapioca ( not the sundae ). The strawberry cake was kind of generic but not bad for a local diner place. It was pretty fluffy and not overwhelmingly sweet. The coconut tapioca was pretty good too! I saw the waitress scooping it out of a container but wow it was good. It is purple but with delicious chunks of sweet potato and tapioca. Also nice service. I rarely go to Zippy's because of the ludicrous prices they have. The only item that keeps me coming back for more is the icee floats. They have strawberry and coke flavors both offered in two cup sizes. When I feel extremely daring though I order their chili cheese fries. It's a very emotional time when I eat this particular item. The first half of consumption is guilt-free; full of happiness, elation, satisfaction. Then it goes downhill from there. The guilt just consumes me; guilt for eating something so unhealthy, the price, my conscience telling me I didn't need to eat that, etc. There's something about it that keeps me coming back for more though... Anyway, on the rarest of rare occasions when there is nowhere else to eat for the night, my bf and I dine in at the restaurant. I prefer to eat inside opposed to the outside area during the late hours because I lose my appetite when I see crackheads and the likes passing through. Customer service is pretty good. If you have the old aunty as your server, good for you. I love her because she's super nice. Our orders usually consist of the steak, ice cream float, hot tea and/or soda and another entree which we change up per visit. Yea, we are pretty daring. Downtown Honolulu and Waikiki can become very confusing and difficult to manage when you're new to the area, especially when it comes to driving. Luckily Zippy's Vineyard is a great place to stop for not only a quick bite for some of your local favorites in fast food form but also a great place to park and collect yourself before getting back out to the bustling streets. The courtyard is a roofed outdoor area with plenty of ceiling fans circulating the air around. There is also a Napoleon's bakery located in the same roofed area if you're in the want for some pastries. I had the breakfast bento combos and I will say they were much smaller than I expected, especially considering how big portion everything is in Hawaii; yet, for the price of $4.95 it isn't a bad deal. The thing people rave about here is Zippy's chili so if you love chili that's something you definitely need to check out, whether its the spaghetti and chili, chili cheese fries, or just a big ol' bowl of chili itself. This Zippy's isn't the end-all-be-all of Hawaiian fast food restaurants but for the great location (being near downtown Waikiki and Honolulu airport) and the convenience of a large parking lot if you just need a quick bite on your travels you should check this place out. read more

Our waitress was quick & always checking in on us. I have only tried their zip pack & surf pack before, so dining in i wanted breakfast! -small pancake combo: 1 pancake w/ your choice of meat. My daughter chose bacon. The pancakes were fluffy & moist! So good! -sweet bread french toast combo: french toast w/ your choice of meat & egg. I chose their homemade corn beef hash. I've been to this Zippys more times that I can count. 19 our of 20 times, it's great. The drive through is quick (you have to call in ahead of time, you cannot order at the window), the food is consistent, the portions are good, the price is decent, the staff is efficient. But, the 1 in 20 times the food is bad, it's probably pretty bad (I once got 3 pieces of nearly uncooked bacon).
