Went through the drive through and was instantly eeked out. The speaker was so low I couldn't hear anything. Ordered a meal and a sundae. Got up to the window and was given a milk shake. Went there last night with my girlfriend. At first, we thought it was a drive in, old-school style burger joint; it wasn't. They had a drive through and a place to sit inside. At first thought, I figured the burgers would be sloppy and made fast due to the drive through, and the place seemed a little "outdated". For one moment, I almost wanted to just go back home, but we decided "oh well, we're here, let's try it out", so we went inside. I've ordered a Triple Bacon Burger with extra bacon, and my girlfriend got what they call a Mascot. On the side, we got a trio (friends, tater tots and onion rings). Then we sat. It actually took a little longer than I expect but that was for the best. It didn't take long by any means but definitely wasn't a "fast food". Within first few bites I was amazed on how delicious and flavorful our burgers were. I was like wow, what a hit! I finished my whole burger in one sittings with no hesitation whatsoever. I was very surprised on how good it came to be. Their spices and sauces that they used to make it were just TOP notch. It was perfect flavor, not too greasy, it was great. I came in and had a wonderful dinner at this Zips's location with my parents yesterday. We came in and got a large order of fish and chips and shakes and they where very fresh and tasty and the manager went out of her way to make sure my parents and I had what we needed the entire meal. OK... I read the other reviews and I have to say "chill bruh's and sis's. You're missing the point." I grew up in Hillyard but I've lived in Spokane, Portland, Chicago, Grand Rapids, New York City (Manhattan for 8 years, Brooklyn for 2), and I now live in Downtown Los Angeles. And obviously I've traveled to a lot of cities. Portland introduced me to novelty like VooDoo Donuts. Chicago opened my eyes to gourmet duck-fried fries and rattlesnake hot dogs at the now closed Hot Dougs. While in NY I worked in the fashion world and was treated to some of the best food you could imagine on sets and with clients - our catering on sets often had better food than 99% of the restaurants in Spokane or other cities. I'm happy to say I've tried a lot. But Zips is the #1 fast food burgers in any city and I'll explain why. Let me explain this to tourists: Everyone who grew up in Spokane heard rumors that the tartar sauce was made in garbage cans. Is it true? I dunno. Does it matter? Who cares? It's ZIPS!!! ZIPS IS TRASH FOOD! It's GOOD Trash! If anything, you would WANT the tartar sauce to be made in a giant rubbermaid garbage can lined with plastic because it would make even more sense! Go to New York and have some Shake Shack: It's expensive, small, fresh, and clean. But you talk to any new Yorker and they'll all say "Eh... It's ok. It's all we got." This is New York's #1 Burger place and nobody truly likes it. People go to SS just to please the dumb tourists. Shake Shack is publicly traded and your 401k is probably now partially invested in a burger place the locals dislike but nobody admits. Now come to LA. Say to people "I want to go to a place with tons of fatty greasy foods at an outdated non-insta friendly burger place." They'll tell you "noo" and push to go to In-n-Out if you promise to take a good pic for the gram. Get to in-n-out and you'll see the food is REALLY great, the ingredients are ultra fresh, and the stores are clean modern kitsch. The fresh faced employees smile and have weirdly sparkling clean skin. It's constantly busy and may take you 25 minutes to get your food. All the customers look beautiful and healthy. You pay $10 for burger/fries/soda combo and can get all the "Animal Sauce" you want for free. You walk out beyond full and ready to puke because the fresh ingredients just filled you up soooo well. I love In-n-Out BUT... it's NOT Zips. Zips beats In-n-Out. Why do I love Zips more? Because I hate myself enough to allow myself to make bad decisions but love myself enough to indulge in "Bad-Bad, not good-bad." A simple way of looking at it is seeing it like Goldilocks: the 1st fast food place is too healthy... the 2nd is not as healthy but not as bad for you... but Zips is JUST right and is perfectly bad for you. The 1st fast food restaurants is too clean and perfect... the 2nd is insta friendly but sucks... but Zips is JUST right because it doesn't give a F. And so on... And that is the thing: Zips IS Spokane. Spokane isn't Seattle. It isn't Portland. It isn't Boise. It's this city where people are trapped in a time machine 10 years ago.... AND IT IS FINE LIKE THAT. It doesn't need to be trendy when it has a freak'n waterfall rushing through downtown, when it has a 45 year old goat that eats your trash, and when Idaho and Canada are RIGHT THERE. Just like Spokane, Zips is trapped in its own time and world and we are ok with that! Zips and Spokane are a lot like Weiner Circle in Chicago. If you aren't familiar, Weiner Circle is this place that sells hot dogs to drunks in Wrigleyville. The employees are from South Chicago and there is always a verbal fight between the customers and the employees. The food is good but nobody cares because you get to experience something you will only get in a city like Chicago. Chicago and Weiner Circle knows they are not New York or LA. Spokane and Zips knows it's not Seattle or Portland (or even Boise...). And that is why the locals love it. The food fits the city. For those of you who are expecting something nicer, you're dumb. Zips represents the laid back, fatty, greasy, good food loaded with bad calories and carbs you can't get in pretentious cities. The food is really good if you plan to eat bad food from a local place that hasn't changed since it added a drive thru window. You can't get greasy burgers and a tub of fries loaded with the fattest vat of tartar sauce anywhere else. And you can't get the special charm of the people of Spokane anywhere else. Don't like the taste if your burger? Dip it in sauce. Need more sauce? Get out of your dumb rental car, sit in the restaurant, and fill up the soufflé cups like a local. Hop off your phone and read the Inlander or one of the other random magazines sitting by the door. So for the tourists giving this place 1- star and complaining: Just go and eat a bag of Dicks. I was staying in Spokane recently and kept seeing people with zips. "What is a 'zips?'" i would ask them...and I was told they were a burger place with the best tartar sauce around. I had to try it. I drove from my hotel and went through the drive thru.. They were fast! So the burger was ok; a little plain for me but the tartar sauce!!! It was so good! It went perfect with the fries.. Yesterday was a long and exhausting day for my family and the blonde manager at the lower Division Zips didn't make it any better. My sister was hit by an SUV yesterday and to make things easier for her and all her kids I decided to pick up a large order of food for dinner. The guy in the drive through window was really nice and I didn't have any problems with him. He handed me 4 bags of food, one small ice cream cone and one regular milkshake. He listed here's the specialty order bag, here's 2 tubs of fries (each had their own bag), and here are the burgers. He said that was everything and to have a great night. I get to my sister's place and she lives all the way up on the south hill. I start pulling food out and realize we don't have all of our burgers, there's only 5 out of 8. That means 3 of our very tired, very hungry family isn't getting a chance to eat. I called the store and spoke to an associate that said she would get her manager. I got on the phone with the manager herself and she told me she's the one that didn't hand off the other 3 burgers to the guy in the window and she takes full responsibility. She told me to drive back down and she would have my 3 burgers. I told her that I know she didn't mean to but it's a huge inconvenience especially tonight and I let her know what happened to my sister and that I was now about 15-20 minutes away on the south hill. She replied I know how long it takes I live on the south hill, your burgers will be here when you get here. I thought that was already extremely rude to be so dismissive about her mistake. So I get back in my car and drive all the way down there. When i get there she already had an attitude like I have inconvenienced her. I asked her, despite her snotty disposition, if we could get an extra tub of fries because those of us who didn't get burgers will now be eating cold fries. She cut me off to tell me that will be $8.11. I said no I'm sorry what I meant was if you could just compensate a tub of fries for us for the inconvenience of our time, money and gas. She half laughed and said no I can't do that for you. I only didn't give you 3 burgers not fries. You got your fries so I don't have to replace those. I asked her if she was serious and she said yes. I was so upset I looked at her and told her she was an awful manager and she squinted her eyes and smiled and replied thanks. I was so shocked it looked as though she enjoyed making me upset. Walked across the street from another burger joint who's dining room was closed for still for some reason in 2021....only to find Zip's Dining room is closed as well! What the heck Zips? I know I've eaten at the other one downtown multiple times throughout the pandemic...so what's this ones excuse? Not all of us have a car for drive-thru. I'm an airline pilot in town for work only. Zips is a must stop for us when we visit from MT. We hadn't visited this location before. They had trouble hearing us over our truck at the drive thru, but instead of asking us to turn the truck off the lady rushed out the back door and took our order truck side. It was almost midnight Saturday, & we were downtown hoping for someplace open and serving food. The yellow sign for Zips that reads "Open 24 hours" was like a sign from heaven. My husband & I debated just going through the drive-thru, but since it was his first time at a Zips we decided to park and go in to peruse the menu at our leisure. I ordered a Belly Buster plain with pickles, & my husband got a Papa Joe. We also got a cup of water for our friend waiting out in the van. They didn't charge us for it - I mention this because I've seen some reviews that complained about them charging for a cup of water. It took a couple minutes for them to bring our food out, since it had to be freshly cooked. In the meantime, since the cashier had gone to help cook the food, a customer came in & was wondering if they were still open. Apparently that customer had missed the big '24 hours' part of the sign. I checked my burger before we left - it was exactly how I'd ordered it. I ate it in the van, & it was deliciously salty from the pickles and bacon and everything. Well I love Zip's and go every time I am back home in Spokane. I have even considered opening up a location in Las Vegas! I usually never end up at this Division location and now I know not to go there. My fav Zip's is actually on Francis; I also like the one on Monroe/Indiana and the one downtown on 3rd. Pretty sure all locations are independently owned and this one is just not as good as it once was when I was a lot younger. I believe this location is open 24/7. So 10:30pm/drive-thru. We ordered 2 milkshakes, a hamburger, and a corn-dog. I LOVE Zip's fry sauce, it really doesn't get much better. I asked for tarter, fry sauce, and mustard. What we got was a dried out hamburger patty, a corn-dog, and 8 tarter sauces. Mostly all went to waste; I hate wasting anything. No straws for our shakes either.... The worst burger restaurant I have ever been to in the Spokane region. I am not a picky eater because I know a lot of the fast food taste similar in many ways. This just missed the mark on my rainbow colored checklist period. Biggest ripoff and a disappointment in my life. Do not let the billboards' flashing neon sales pitch grab your fullest and complete attention. Who will exclude the fries and the sodas from all the burgers, sequester everything to make them appear cheaper, and then have customers get the big picture after the purchase has been made? I decided to opt for the burger combo with soda and fries. You would surmise at first glance this is would a good combo like at other places correct? Guess again, the prices did not add up correctly. Somehow it ended up close to nineteen dollars. The burger itself is small and does not possess much patty flavors to begin with. Fries did not meet what I had in mind to say the least. They were all too coated with grease for me to properly feast on them. That is one extra trip to the gym for me now. This is unacceptable even for a semi formal looking sit down restaurant. Forget about it y'all, you know what my consensus is over here. I do not know how a Washington fast food chain restaurant like this can operate so many locations and provide subpar food.
