Hot off a Michelin Bib Gourmand award so had high expectations for Zitz Sum and for the most part, it delivered with small plates of big, bold flavors. Zitz Sum seems to have e some staples but the menu is constantly evolving. Do not expect to see the same items on the menu day in and day out. The menu is on the smaller side with four sections: Izakaya, Dumplings, Konro Grill, and Dessert. The menu is small enough that we were able to order every dish from the first two sections, two from the third, and one dessert. Most of the items were excellent. My absolute favorite was the Hamachi Crudo. The juxtaposition of flavors was powerful. I also loved the Summer Salad and Wagyu Tartare. The Karaage was good but nothing special. I have had Karaaage that was just as good or better elsewhere. From the Dumpling section, the Har Gow was my favorite. The dish did have a bit of a kick. Also enjoyed the Brisket Bun. I thought the Wonton in Brodo, a staple on the menu, was kind of bland. We only ordered two dishes from the Grill section. I was not a fan of the Pork Belly. Although I do not often eat steak, the Wagyu Churrasco was exceptional. The menu changes often, so don't have your heart set on any dishes you see or read about. Just be ready for bright,, new interpretations of dishes you might already be familiar with. There is now an omakase available. Service was approachable and friendly (even for such a restaurant with so much buzz). Since my visit in June , Zitz Sum has been listed as one of NY Times top 50 restaurants (one of only two in Miami on the list). Hubby and I went last night for dinner. We got seated right away which I loved. We did the sampling menu and it didn't disappoint. Omakase style so we didn't know what we were getting. Every plate got better and better. We were worried we weren't going to get full but everything was curated perfectly. Manor, our waiter was attentive. Great meal at Zitz Sum in Coral Gables. A hidden 30 seater inside an office building. They describe their food as "Japanese food looked through the lens of Italian ingredients and technique." I describe it as delicious. We opted for the tasting menu at $125pp but keep in mind, all but a few of these dishes are available a la carte as well. Our favorite items: The bing bread with the miso & sesame honey butter was a great way to begin. The waygu beef tartare in a cone was an excellent one biter. (it's served differently a la carte) We enjoyed the wahoo crudo with its clean and fresh sake broth and citrus flavor. We loved their signature chicken & black truffle wonton in their parmesan & matsutake shoyu broth. This tasted excellent. Firm wontons, flavorful broth. We added the rice hotpot with herbs, ikura, & an egg, was a great addition, although there was already plenty of food in the existing tasting menu. The caraflex cabbage was a sleeper dish. I wish I had more! Charred perfectly, excellent spicy sauce and topped with a great cheese for an excellent flavorful bite. See Ma, I do eat my veggies! Waygu was excellent, a perfect medium rare. The shrimp and lobster har gow was a miss for some of the people at our table, as was the Cavatelli with the XO sauce. This restaurant has sake, wine & beer, no liquor, they also have a few sake based cocktails I had the "Freak On A Leash" it was excellent with a kick from Fresno chilis. One of my companions had a beer he enjoyed, another went for the wine pairing with the tasting menu $45. For the tasting menu there was also a cold sake paring which I selected. It was okay, but served in wine glasses vs the low ball sake glasses. While I understand inspiration and flavors are from both Japanese and Italian cuisine, I would have preferred the sake glass. I think it would have kept the temperature better. We finished the meal with a trifecta of desserts Our group raved about the sorbet, I Ioved the Hong Kong Style French toast with its delicious peanut butter sauce and milk iced tea gelato. This place is absolutely amazing. The food was not only delicious but such a gorgeous presentation. You can tell the chefs took their time with every dish from start to finish. I absolutely loved it. There are a lot of options to choose from so come ready to share and take yourself on a culinary journey. The staff was also great. A special shout out to Krystal and Maynor. When the staff has a great vibe it makes me feel great and excited. The space is very lovely. I've never been to this part of town so it was nice to explore during the day. Very spacious courtyard as well which is where I ate. I think because of the buildings and shadows it was very cool and enjoyable to eat outside despite Miami heat. Excited to go back again! This is a small intimate restaurant hidden inside an office building. You wouldn't stumble upon it just walking by, but wow am I glad I found this place. We came here for my birthday dinner and it was exceptional. Everything from the ambiance, the birthday welcome message, to the food and service was incredible. Set at an awkward location, in the lobby of a corporate building in Coral Gables, Zits Sum has a very tight dining room seating perhaps 50 people awfully close to each other, resulting in a lousy, intrusive experience. Decor is lacking, and lighting is close to non-existent. The food, however beautiful and instagrammable, was borderline inedible. We started with a wahoo crudo, with delicate slices of fish floating in a puddle of chili oil, covered by overly salty and spicy accompaniments, resulting in something tasting like anchovies out of a can. We continued with a cucumber salad, with slices of cucumber and dragon fruit floating on stringy, awfully tasting stracciatella. The texture reminded us of something expectorated from the lungs of a pneumonia patient. The low point of the evening, however, was the dumplings in brodo. The dumplings were beautifully seasoned, but they swam in a nightmarish broth. The description said soy and parmesan, but we could not pinpoint where the fowl acidic and burnt taste could have come from. We finished with cabbage. Charred, overly salty, overly spicy, delivered with a fork and knife in a restaurant that otherwise presents all dishes to be eaten with chopsticks. Dry, awkward texture, weird taste. Everything I tried at this place was delicious and tasted fresh. I ordered: - 'Bout Thyme cocktail (soooo yummy! Loved this unique flavor) - Bing Bread (amazing. My first and definitely not last experience at Zitz Sum! They were able to accommodate our huge group (thanks Kristine R. for the recommendation), with no problems. I knew off the bat it wouldn't be traditional dim sum so went in with an open mind to different fusions of flavors, and left really impressed! The servers and pleasant and attentive. Very helpful at explaining the menu and the entire experience. We opted for an à la cart menu versus the tasting menu Starting with drinks, I tried the days and confused and it was delicious. I then had the royal badness and it was just OK. I like the spiciness of the dazed and confused. My daughter had the hibiscus lemonade, which was a little too tart for her, but they make all of their drinks there, which is way better than soda. The Bing bread was delicious esp with the sweet butter. The steak tartare was amazing. The bao was out of this world. We almost took an extra bao home. The har gow my daughter was initially afraid to try because she's not a real seafood person, but she absolutely loved it and said it was the best she's ever had. Coral Gables is quickly becoming home to some of Miami's new favorite restaurants and Zitz Sum certainly fits that description. I am so happy to see the return of Pablo and his team with their latest venture at Zitz Sum. Located on Alhambra this spot is oozing flavorful ambiente and I loved everything about it. If you weren't lucky enough to order some of chef's dumplings during quarantine when he was cooking up stellar food, or try No Name Chinese while it was open, you should consider yourself lucky to be able to dine at Zitz Sum. What to order? Everything! Our party of 6 ordered the entire menu. It is broken up into appetizers, dumplings and entrees. You cannot go wrong with anything. The stars of this menu are the dumplings. Chicken Postickers, wonton in brodo and my #1 bae the Har Go. Har Gow is filled with pink shrimp, lemongrass and makrut lime tomatillo sauce. It was absolutely excellent and I have spent two sleeps dreaming of it. Same goes fot the Calabrian Chili sauce on the potstickers. Another two stand outs were the Charred Cabbage and Yukhoe ssam Bap (Korean steak tartare). I could go on and on about how great this food is but I'll let you try it for yourself and move on to some other important things like WINE! The wine list is awesome. We were lucky enough to catch up with chef and he explained that the wine list was things they like to drink when they aren't working. Same with the music, it's what they want to listen to. Everything about this is from the heart - you can taste it in the food, feel it in the ambiance and hear it in the playlist. Last but not least - about FINDING Zitz Sum. It is located in a building that is under construction on Alhambra. From Alhambra it is directly across from the Globe. There is signage in the front telling you that you're in the right place. Nestled in an office building in Coral Gables, and probably the only issue was trying to find the restaurant. Zitz Sum's creations were all a delight for the senses both visual, olfactory and taste. The night began wuth probably the best bread I have ever eaten anywhere in the world. The sourdough pancake was so good, we could have stopped there and there would have been no complaints. From there we had the tartare and crudo as appetizers which had such depth of flavor that we could not stop eating them. Next came the potstickers and wontons in brodo. Delicious! For the main course the grouper, Charred Cabbage and Wagyu Beef kept our taste buds dancing. We finished the evening with a lite palate cleansing sorbet with merengue. The service at Zitz Sum was impeccable, but the food was far from it. I'm usually an advocate for fusion style food, but they really use the term "asian inspired" loosely. We ordered the the wonton soup and the stone pot rice, where the only two noticeable differences in the dishes were that they put parmesan in soup, and that they charged 4x the price of a normal Chinese restaurant. We also ordered the wahoo crudo, scallop and calamari salad, and cucumber salad. None of which were notable compared to other restaurants we've eaten at in the Miami area. I highly recommend staying away from here and going to a normal dim sum/dumpling restaurant where you can bring some of your own cheese or avocado and call it Asian fusion while paying a 4th of the price. read more

Had such an incredible, special & romantic experience here last night! My boyfriend & I wanted to go out to dinner to a place neither of us had been to. Although Zitz Sum is only a few blocks away from my home & I had heard marvelous things about it, I had not yet paid a visit. Tonite was the nite! Come to realize it's tucked away in a little corner on the inside of the bank building on the corner of LeJeune & Alhambra. As soon as you walk in, you are transported to a far off place: the rich umami scent filled the air & although it was still daylight outside, the dim lights, curtained doors & windows lent the tiny space an exotic & intimate opium den-y vibe. Our waitress, Winter, was wonderful as she explained everything about the menu including how if changes up constantly. It all looked so good, we decided to dive in head first with Winter's welcome guidance: -SALAD (Cucumber, Straciatella, Lao Gan Ma, Radish & Herbs) This was so delicious, so fresh, so bright! & the textures! Jumped right out at you. Beautiful first dish. -CRUDO (Yellowfin Tuna, Tonnato, White Soy, Cucumber, FL Tomatoes) Absolutely beautiful dish. Perfect flavours & the quality of the tuna was unparalleled. -GRILLED SCALLOP (Yuzu Kosho, Potato, Parmesan Sabayon, Chives) Very good although I'm not normally big on seafood + cheese together. This seemed like a take on "scalloped potatoes". Unexpectedly warm & comforting. -HAR GOW (Shrimp, Calabrian Chili Vin, Lime & Thai Basil) Spicy & pretty good but definitely my least favourite of the night. -WONTON IN BRODO (Chicken & Foie Gras, Wood Ear Mushroom, Parm & Soy Dashi) Don't eat Foie Gras but my boyfriend was a fan. -CHARRED CABBAGE (Fresno Chili Vin, Grana Padano, & Ginger Scallion) Amazing! One of my favourites. The char was soooo good. Cabbage was full of flavour & very tender. -NIMAN RANCH RIBEYE (Shiitake and Black Pepper Borderlaise, Hakurei Turnip, Onion) I don't eat meat but my boyfriend said that while it was good, it was his least favourite dish. -CRAB NOODLES (Curry & Calabrian Chili Sauce, Lime & Thai Basil) Very good, spicy and the delicate crab added a lovely touch. My only complaint is that I was not able to try more dumplings since all but 1 were very meat heavy. Even the chicken one had the added foie gras. Hopefully the chef will consider adding more vegetable or seafood/poultry options since dumplings are what Zitz Sum originally became known for & i would LOVE to have more options. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and we did the 8-course tasting menu. The only thing I would say that needs to be improved is the wait times. Our reservation was at 8pm and we did not get seated until 8:30pm and the drinks also took a very long time to get to our table. Other than this, the 8-course tasting was amazing. My personal favorites were the crudo, the bao bun, and the sea bass. The portion sizes are great and you will definitely not leave hungry!! It comes with a dessert at the end which was nice. Wish yelp had 1/2 stars - this is definitely not a 3 star review, more like a 3.5 star but not a full 4. My tastebuds tell me the food is definitely good and above average but, my pocket tells me it is overpriced for the portions served. Do not go on a totally empty stomach... We were a party of 5 that racked up a $600+ tab for basically, potstickers, bao buns, wonton, bing bread with pork, 4 sake/wine based drinks and a bottle of wine. As mentioned, we wanted to feel we had dinner not snacks, so we found ourselves ordering 2 and 3 of the same mini plates most at 18.00 a pop. To that we added a 120.00 bottle of wine (Pauillac BTL) - double the price but expected. See picture of receipt attached. Other than the price why the 3.5 stars.., The wagyu churrasco for 58.00 was a joke. 6-7 tidbits of chewy beef does not cut it! Btw, receipt reads: Striploin In the end, we were all happy and full - for the grand total of 630.84 including 20% tip plus an additional 23.00 just because. We will return when we are not as hungry. The mushroom hotpot, cabbage wedge and froyo were all modified to be gluten free and very yummy. The froyo with the fresh fruit on top was my favorite. Had dinner last Friday at Zitz Sum and it turned out to be the perfect spot for date night. The ambiance was dark and romantic and the music played added to the overall charm, (Arctic Monkeys, Hozier and similar). To kick off we started with the crudo and bing bread, both of which were exceptional. The freshness of the crudo and the honey butter that came with the bing bread set a promising tone for the rest of the meal. Then we had the wonton in brodo and mochi cavatelli. I loooved the mochi cavatelli. We paired our meal with a bottle of French sauvignon blanc which was an excellent choice. The wine complemented the dishes perfectly, enhancing the overall dining experience. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Great customer service throughout our visit. It's clear they're playing a different game. Imagine Anthony Bourdain and Action Bronson nodding in agreement over a plate - that's the vibe here. This isn't about show; it's about an ever-evolving menu that nails it every time. My girlfriend and I went for the omakase and we opted to include the wine pairing. Right from the start they let us know they meant business. Kicking things off with two of the nights best dishes. A mochi donut stuffed with a potato aligot, topped with Uni (yeah, Uni.) and a cookie stuffed with wagyu beef tartar. This introduction set the scene for the rest of the night. A couple of other highlights/must try's. The bao, salmon and the steak. The bao is stuffed with braised short rib and sits on a bed of house made labneh topped with a house made chili crunch. Absolutely fantastic. The salmon paired was cooked so perfectly I was only upset it was over. Such a silky mouthfeel. The steak was delivered medium rare and finished table side with bordelaise sauce. I would argue this is top 5 best cuts of beef in the city. Dessert was just as strong as all of the entree's. A blood orange sorbet that cleansed the palette and was bright crisp and refreshing. The perfect way to close out the show. But Zitzsum isn't just about the food. The service? Top-notch. Not sure what is the hype about. Overall experience was okay, there was one fish dish that was pretty good but the rest of the food is pretty mediocre. I've had the worst and laziest scallop dish I've ever had in my life with banana and cucumber. Not a good combo and the presentation was just laughable, 20 dollars for a one scallop it's a bit too much. Also now I see pictures of other scallop dishes that people post and I think that the chef probably just got lazy by the end of the day and decided to serve whatever.. Shame read more
