Flattered!!! This semi finalist of James Beard foundation hightlighted my expections. Last week I had the pleasure for the first time to visit Zitz Sum and I'm not disappointed at all. From start to the end everything was really pleasurable. We are a party of 4 so we decided to share some plates like: * Bing Bread *Hamachi crudo *Cabbage *Cucumber Salad *Sheng jian Bao *Pork potstickers *Roasted Grouper *Teriyaki roasted half chicken paring with a lovely Bosnian wine . Just revisited Zitz Sum again after being in the area. All of the staff members including the GM Diana were hospitable, kind and incredibly professional. When we arrived, we were greeted by multiple members of the staff and promptly seated. Within 30 seconds of sitting down, we were offered either sparkling or still water, which was a nice touch. Our server quickly came over and spoke to us about the restaurant and the menu and highlighted some of the new items for March. After that chef Pablo came out of the kitchen himself and welcomed us to the restaurant and told us the dishes. He was really excited about. One member of our party has dietary restrictions, and therefore cannot participate in the tasting menu, but everyone else was able to participate. That guest shared her dietary restrictions with the server, and the server took her time to curate an amazing meal for that guest. For the rest of us, we were delighted as we received 2 to 3 items from each section of the menu making it a true tasting menu! We even had some secret special items not listed on the menu included since we were having the tasting menu. Throughout the entire night, multiple servers and multiple members of the staff stopped by our table to refresh our utensils, offer, more water, see how we were liking the meal and more. Chef Pablo came out of the kitchen once again, and started talking to us about some of the items that we had And how he and the members of his team created those dishes We started with a delicious uni chawamushi alongside delicious starters and dim sum. I've always been nervous to eat scallop because of some bad experiences in the past, but the grilled scallop dish here was unlike anything I've ever eaten in the most amazing way. The mains were the star of the show with a delicious charred cabbage, spicy blue crab noodle and off menu char sui pork chop. Again, I'm nervous to order pork at restaurants because it's usually dry, but this was a revelation! I could not believe how flavorful and delicious it was. Actually scratch that, I could believe it because every single dish we had was out of this world. The night ended with both of the desserts on the menu, including the Hong Kong French toast, which might be my favorite dessert ever. Zitz Sum is an experience not to be missed, and no matter where you are in Miami you must go. Zitz Sum is really hard to find (inside of an office building and has zero signage), extremely small (less than 10 tables inside), very noisy (little to no sound dampening), and the menu is fairly small. We enjoyed the service but the food didn't match expectations. The Chicken Dumplings were very good but the broth was acidic. The Shrimp Har Gow was extremely spicy (as advertised) but the dumpling wasn't as tasty as the chicken dumplings. The Shrimp Noodle Yakisoba lacked flavor. Disappointing customer service. If you have any food aversions or allergies, don't go to Zitz Sum. Better yet, if you request kosher-friendly accommodations, get ready to feel outcasted. In the past, the staff welcomed making minor alterations to accommodate my dietary restriction to eat kosher-friendly (no pork, no shellfish, no mixing meat/milk). However, last night I had the most unpleasant experience that ended with husband and I leaving early and paying for food we never received. It was honestly more painful to stay, we were OK with throwing away money. As background, my husband is a big foodie and loves going to Zitz Sum. He made a reservation noting my dietary restriction (kosher friendly). Before coming to dinner, we looked at the menu online, and we were both excited to try the beef and broccoli dish listed (a Denver steak). When we arrived, our server greeted us and asked me to elaborate on my kosher-friendly request. When it was time to make our order, I asked if the beef and broccoli dish came with any side items that contained dairy, and if it was possible to remove them or replace them. Again, in the past the staff was friendly with my request. She immediately seemed worried that the chef wouldn't allow it, and said she would check (I believe the wasabi came with a dairy purée). She returned a second time and confirmed the chef declined my request. I was disappointed but rather than beating a dead horse, I just wanted my husband to enjoy his dinner. I thanked her for trying and informed her I won't be ordering anything. She was very apologetic, but by then I had lost my appetite. By the third time she returned, she suggested another option. I declined and said it's best to move on, please. She was again very apologetic, genuine and had the best intentions. So, I opened up and said I was surprised that a non-Michellin star restaurant would be so difficult (and change their approach), when actual Michellin star-rated restaurants in Miami, like Cote, are more welcoming. In my opinion, the same accommodations applied for diners with allergies should be exercised for diners who request kosher friendly alteration, when appropriate. It just seemed antisemitic. I asked her to move on. However, following my feedback, it seemed like the vibe in the room changed as all the staff members were looking at our table. Our server returned a fourth time, and was excited to inform us that the chef is agreeing to my request and modifying the dish. She also added that they're making a one time exception (which is a lie) and will address their policy. By then I was beyond embarrassed and uncomfortable. I told her, "Please stop. The damage is done. Let's just move on. I'm OK." This was so uncomfortable. I felt awful because I know how much my husband enjoys Zitz Sum. It was just demoralizing that the chef had to prove a point. I've dined at Alinea in Chicago and Clove Club in London, and actual star-rated Michellin destinations and have never felt this outcasted. We decided to ask for the check and leave early. We paid for my husband's meals even though two of them were never brought to the table as the restaurant was very busy. read more

I felt like the meal started and finished stronger than the dim sum courses. Service was fantastic - they were on top of everything. The bing bread, tamago, and tartare are musts, and the hamachi crudo was also very good. We were most excited about the dim sum, of course, and I wasn't sure if I ever needed refined dim sum, like they serve here - turns out, I don't. They were delicious, really unique preparations of potstickers, har gow, and wontons, but I prefer the more traditional dim sum, in hindsight. The pork chop entree was also great, specifically the detached bone. I'll be happy to come back here, and I'm sure I will, but oddly enough, probably not primarily for the dim sum. read more

This is one of my top 10 favorite restaurants in Miami. The service is always impeccable along with the food. I love that the menu is always changing. The food delicious and innovative without being fussy. I always order the bing bread and the shrimp hargow. It's a small menu that changes often so I always take recommendations from the knowledgeable staff. I would recommend getting several items and sharing with the table. We did the tasting menu. Usually, when you do a tasting menu, you say something to the effect of "They could've skipped that one." There was not one dish that I would have skipped. Had a fabulous evening at zitz sum. It's a really cool place, nicely decorated with Asian and tropical vibes. There is a tiny bar that seats 3 and a large outdoor space. We sat in the main area indoors which is moderately spacious. We got there early and notice a lot of people trickling in as time went by. We had a couple of delicious cocktails, the Italian job...slightly sweet and mellow. And the Lone rider... a take on a mule but all made with sake as base. And pretty much ate mostly all the items from the dim sum section of the menu. Everything was delicious. I think my fave are the chicken wontons that come in the most delicious sweet broth...you will just slurp it all up. And the pork pot stickers which sit on a bed of the most delicious Calabrian chili crunch sauce...ask them not to take this sauce so you can smother everything else with it. Also tried the shrimp har gow and they were yummy. The brisket bao is also really good...juicy and lots of meaty flavor, and it was served with pickles and a spicy mustardy (I think) sauce. They should rename this place from "Zit sum" to "Skip sum." This restaurant has been hyped to us so much, but I can say after dining and doing their nine course tasting menu with wine pairing. It is a scam. The food is very bland and the wine pairing they purposely choose the cheapest wine that doesn't even match the food. I'm talking from places I didn't even know made wine. The dumpling was pure mush, 0 flavor. The rice is mostly beans which is not Asian in the slightest. Fish was soOoooo bland not even the "foam" sauce could save it. The scallop dish was inspired but unsuccessful (the banana was weird). The French toast dessert was just pure peanut butter flavor nothing else and was cold in the center and they paired it with a sake which made zero sense but again I guess it's cheap? The idea they have anything remotely Michelin shocks me to my core. One of the wine pairings was undrinkable, and I was very amazed by the fact that the staff just ignored the fact that I had a full glass of wine through most of the meal no one came to check and ask how we were feeling I think because they knew that wine was crap. Very disappointing dinner at a restaurant we were really looking forward to trying. Expensive with very, very mediocre food. The best thing was the sourdough appetizer. The rest....thumbs down. I came across this hidden restaurant near Miracle Mile at Coral Gables. It is hidden is inside the ground floor of a building. But there isn't much visibility if you work on the street. In short, I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with my experience there. Here is the breakdown: Food- positive Ordered a few dishes. Recommend the shrimp noodles- nice and great flavor. The sauce is amazing. Crunchy curried potato- amazing mix of the potato and the kale chips with the two curry. Very tasty. Katsu Sando- delicious sandwich with good sauce to the sandwich. Korean style Handroll- nice flavor from the tartare with great texture. Location is a bit tricky to find, parking is generally the street parking. Once you find the location, it has a nice ambiance inside, they are dog friendly (you can sit outside). We made reservations for 9:30 and we were able to be seated prior to the our reservations. All the dumplings were unique in flavors. I would recommended ordering all the dumplings. I've been wanting to come here for a while but it was difficult to get a reservation. I was finally able to come on a Thursday evening. We got there and were seated at about 6:55pm. Surprisingly, the server (Crystal) offered us happy hour drinks and appetizers, even though happy hour ends at 7pm. This NEVER happens at other restaurants, they usually avoid even mentioning happy hour! So we ordered ALL 3 appetizers and they were great but the fried chicken was the BEST. We also ordered the steak tartare which is served with nori chips and was delicious, the pork potstickers, and the shrimp har gow (which was spicy but very good). I understand why this place gets the hype that it does. I came for happy hour with two friends, and I'll say that it's very much worth it. HOWEVER, the drinks outside of the happy hour go for $16-$19, which I think is un poquito excessive for a spot in the Gables. I got the saquiri cocktail (with honjozo, prosecco and lime) and we shared the patatas bravas, fried chicken and pork belly buns - all were on the happy hour menu and absolutely amazing. From the regular dinner menu, we got the charred cabbage, chicken potstickers, wontons in brodo and crab noodles. We ended with the namelaka dessert (chocolate mousse with creme fraiche and crunchy peanuts). Although the food is also a bit pricey, the dishes are meant to be shared and are hearty portions. The service took a bit between dishes, but you can tell everything is made super fresh. Our waiter could've been a liiiiiiittle more attentive, but the other service staff always came around to clear dishes and check in. The vibe here is pretty chill, so definitely a great place to pop into for happy hour. Parking can be found on the street on Alhambra Circle. The online reservations were booked a week out but I called the restaurant directly and was able to get a table on Friday night with no issue. Everyone I interacted with that night was amazing. The hostess offered us drinks while we waited a few min for our table (we were early) & our server (Gabriel) was the perfect guide for the night. We opted for the tasting menu which he explained would be random selections from the seasonal menu with the occasional twist based on "how the chef is feeling tonight". We didn't wait long for our fist dish which was a small plate meant to open the appetite. The following courses (about 7-8) were perfectly timed and explained in detail when brought to the table. Everything we tried was delicious but a few dishes really shined like the scallops and the lamb shank bao bun!! The two desserts served were phenomenal (Hong Kong French Toast & the Semifroyo).. Are you bored with the "same old same old" dining options? This cozy Asian themed eatery tucked away in the lobby of a building on Alhambra and LeJeune provides an escape to the mundane and trite. It's not overstating it to say that Zits Sum is more than a meal--it is a bit of a dining experience. I strongly recommend the tasting menu. It highlights the best of a lively and varied menu. It is ideal when you have diners in multiples of two (one or more couples). They start you off with some small bites that are perfect in getting you started and giving you an introduction to what is in store. The Bing and Crudo were particularly delicious. Next is a dumpling course. This is something they have down to a science. Dumplings require some leap of faith. You don't know exactly what you are eating. Sure you've read what it is. But you can't see it. My advice is embrace it and dive right in. Each dumpling is a perfect bite or two. It's a little symphony in a wonton wrapper. The shrimp based one is particularly spectacular. As mains we ordered the Roasted Cod and Crab Noodles. The cod was very well prepared. Just perfectly seasoned and paired with black eye peas, guanciale, chives and herbs. The crab noodles are a flavor explosion. Some mild heat to the fish but nothing excessive. The absolute concentrated flavors and the combination of the sweetness of the crab and the umami goodness of the panang was just a knockout. Dessert was very nice. We had a HK style French toast and strawberries and cream. Neither was overly sweet. This is not what you would expect in a western dessert. Don't go in expecting big sweetness and overwhelming richness. Like most Asian desserts this was more moderately sweet while still somewhat mildly savory. But it was a nice finish to the meal. Tucked away in a professional building off of Alhambra, once I stepped into this restaurant it felt that I was taken to a whole new place. The decor of the restaurant gave off a very tranquil vibe, and the size of it made me feel so cozy. There is outdoor seating offered but the place is so beautiful that you have to sit inside. I had a wonderful time with our server, as she explained that everything in the restaurant is home-made, which you very much can appreciate in anything you order. And she really meant EVERYTHING, even up to the bitters!! I was impressed just about by everything I ordered. I made sure to come during happy hour to capitalize on my choices. Not an extensive menu, but that is how you know it's good. I started with the Jasmine on a Cloudy Day, a very refreshing drink that I would describe almost like a lemonade minus the sour. Then I had the patatas bravas (cooked to the utmost perfect crisp) and the chicken wings (so savory and tender, the meat really fell off the bone). Although we were still in happy hour, I had to have the Besitos Al Sol. A steep price point but definitely worth it considering the home-made aspect. This one is perfect for the spicy drink lovers (like me). The kitchen officially open at 6 pm, so we ordered the Wonton in Brodo which had dumplings sitting in a savory broth. Then we had the Shrimp Har Gow - another dumpling with a thicker sauce that really made my taste buds go wild. Finally we finished dinner with the Crab Noodles, a dish that was jam-packed with crab in each bite. My last drink was the Saiquiri, very refreshing which complemented the summer day so well. Already loving the experience...such a nice change of pace from the norm! The HH menu only had one food item, the karaage chicken. We also ordered two drinks, a glass of wine and the rum is in my car--their take on a piña colada but with sake instead of rum. Really good! Our server then recommended we get everything on the dim sum menu since it was our first time. We came with the intention of only having a few appetizers and drinks, but everything sounded great so we complied. We also ordered the charred cabbage. Everything was good, but the service was great. Very friendly and attentive and definitely elevated the experience. My favorites were the shrimp dim sum - huge and stuffed with shrimp - and the charred cabbage. Only slight ding would be on the price. For 4-5ish dumplings/dim sum a plate at around $16/each, it's not cheap. One of the best hole in the walls of Miami! A bit hard to find but easily fixed with google maps, everyone has been recommending this place and with good reason. We didn't have a reservation, came in for happy hour and had such a great experience. Mater was our waiter we ordered: Shrimp har gow, the karaage, tartare , the hamachi crudo and the yellowtail snapper. For Dessert the mochi cake. The shrimp har gow melted in the mouth, was very hot and tasted fresh. The thin layer of dough was delightful with a large chunk of shrimp.very good portion of 4 a piece per plate. Overall yummy , not my favorite since I'm not big on shrimp but very well executed. The karaage was THE BEST I've tasted in Miami. They use chicken thighs or some type of dark meat, it was juicy and full of flavor. Paired with the Mayo it was -CHEFS KISS ! The tartare HOLY MOLY I DIDNT KNOW I NEEDED EGGS ON MY TARTARE UNTIL NOW. It was so balanced, the egg perfect, the meat ratio perfect and the rice made it complete , this with a perfect side of fried nori, the chives perfectly tiny and so needed.What a hell of a dish. Don't think about it just order it. The hamachi crudo had 4 slices , very nice sauce and even more delicious toppings of pickled ginger and lemons. Fish sliced to perfect slices. Another dish not to miss out on. Finally but not least the snapper entree: Another huge hit!! Worth every dollar and a real experience for the palette. The sauce was vinegary and sweet and savory and umami. Excellently paired with the mushrooms, and the crust on the fish was what dreams are made of!!! So moist so crispy so well cooked. The salad on top cut some of the fat off, excellent. The slight disappointment was dessert: the mochi cake: was so thick and salty. The chocolate part which was piped was really tasty but the rest was not to our liking. It was beautifully plated we just didn't love the flavors. You either eat what's on their menu or you don't (mods not possible) and there were not a ton of non-dairy options. So I was very limited on what I could eat here. A newer Chinese Fusion spot in Coral Gables, shown are their potstickers with a homemade chili sauce, topped with mint and basil. Charred cabbage with a fresno chili sauce and parmesan on top. Ordered Har Gow - steamed shrimp dumplings, a dim sum classic. Pork wontons in brodo was delicious. Dumpling wrappers were al dente and reminded me of pasta dough, even though dumpling wrapped have the same recipe. Their crab noodles were my favorite dish. Finished with a chocolate budino with candied walnuts, creme fraiche and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. The olive oil was a little bit much as it overpowered the chocolate. Everything was good though. Excellent and attentive service. Very helpful and we always had clean plates changed out between dishes. Definitely worth checking these guys out for some different flavors in a familiar package right in the heart of South Miami. read more

I have been dying to go to Zitz Sun but have always had something come up. We were finally able to make it this week! We got every dim sum on the menu, the cabbage starter, the hamachi crudo, and fried rice. Everything was so good. We had to order two rounds of dim sum. Zitz Sum is in my opinion a top 10 spot to dine in SoFl food and service are top notch. For the first time we had a negative comment of our experience, reserved for 8:15 (CC on file, three confirmation contacts and got a call on the reservation day that they had to push the reservation 15min, ended up seating 45 minutes late. Food was excellent waiter service was great, hostess cs could definitely improve considering all the push back. Our order: - Crudo - Tartar - Bao - Wonton Brodo - Hot Pot - Seabass - Shrimp potato dumplings Everything was great but a must order: Tartar, Wontons and the shrimp potato dumplings! In my opinion they are very close to have a Michelin Star. Food was out of this world. The only thing that they need to change is how they remove the plates from the table. (One on top of each other) is a No No. read more
