Good food but longer wait time than expected for a fast casual place in the fashion island food court. Super friendly service. Not sure what the hype is about the multiple sauces as one is plenty. Estimate 10-20 a person.

Very kind and lovely owner! I'd seen the good reviews for this spot and was looking at the menu from a distance, and she offered me some falafel and walked me through the process of how she made it. The food was really good too! I was a particularly big fan of the hummus - so delicious.

A solid fast-casual restaurant where you can grab Persian food. The person in the front turned out to be the owner who was very kind and offered everyone in my group a slice of a falafel. I was shocked because I'm usually not a falafel fan but that one was by far the best I've ever had. However, I ended up ordering a plate with Blam!, Persian marinated beef and lamb, as my protein option. It was very flavorful and not chewy at all so I definitely recommend trying it out. They were unfortunately out of hummus when I went so we missed out on that. I tried some of the chicken sandwich too but that one was just alright. If you're someone who loves sweets, they have a unique selection of desserts such as saffron and baklava soft serve so that was fun to try. Zood is located in a food court so there's plenty of seating available.

I recommend trying their Blam! Sandwich. It's made with a combination beef and lamb and packed with a bunch of fresh ingredients. They also have these filling rice plates and salads too! Their falafels come out with a perfect crisp on the outside and their tahini & hummus are great dips! Their pomegranate soft serve is fruity and refreshing and their chocolate halva cookie is soft and rich! The service is amazing! Their family owned, so you know they put their heart into making the best food they can offer! The ambiance is beautiful. My wife and I ordered a light meal at Zood and loved it! We ordered the Mazzeh plate which was hummus, borani, eggplant dip, falafel and borani. We also ordered extra Persian bread to go with the dips. The food was delicious, especially the falafel balls which were crispy on the outside. The dips were creamy and we used the bread to scoop and scrape them up. The amount of food we were served for the $15 we spent on the plate was a lot --- so much so that my wife and I felt full afterwards. The guy who served us at the counter was super friendly. The ambiance --- well, it's a food court but a nice one. For a delicous, healthy (I think) meal at Fashion Island this will be my go-to place.

Savory falafel and dips at Zood! And portion I had was big enough to share with. The Mazzeh Plate was a great choice for a nice sumptuous lunch. The Mazzeh plate consisted of hummus, borani, eggplant dip, falafel and barbari. Will definitely come back again for their yummy falafel!

Located in the food court at Fashion Island mall, this is a little gem of deliciously fresh Persian food. I tried the beef sandwich this time with the roasted pepper and feta sauce. It is loaded with meat and leafy veg, cubed pickles and banana peppers paired with the eggplant side. The sandwich was huge. I was full but not bloated like with many other meals. The meat was very flavorful and I couldn't wait for the next bite! Our server was the owner I think. She was so pleasant and friendly and offered us a tasting of her new desserts. A pomegranate soft serve with a drizzle of some kind of slightly sweet sauce and a baklava soft serve with pieces of pistachio and flaky pastry topping. Both were more like Italian ice than cream which made them light and refreshing! Plentiful seating at the mall court which is common and of course plenty of parking. As with all our food vendors these days, pricing was on the higher side which is now the norm. Still good and still worth a try! My next visit will be for the falafel! I'm gonna try everything on the menu when given the opportunity. Give it a shot! You won't be disappointed!

I'm Persian, and I can say with confidence this place does not represent Persian food. The food was bland and flavorless. Persians don't serve falafel, hummus, or shawarma those are Middle Eastern dishes, not Persian. If the Iranian owner wants to showcase Persian cuisine, then serve it authentically instead of passing off generic food with no taste. When I complained and asked for something else, the owner didn't apologize or even try to make it right he yelled at me and told me "too bad." That kind of treatment toward a paying customer is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the hygiene was disturbing. No one wore gloves, and I watched an employee breaking apart parsley at the register while also handling money and scrolling on their phone. It was unsanitary and careless, and if I had noticed sooner, I never would have purchased anything here. This place is a poser restaurant disrespectful service, flavorless food, and zero regard for cleanliness. Absolutely not recommended.

Great spot to grab a delicious, healthy lunch that won't break the bank! Stopped by today and tried all three sandwiches on their menu. All three were delicious but the chicken & falafel were my favorite. Also got three sides - all equally delicious: shirazi salad, hummus & eggplant borani. The creamy roasted pepper & feta sauce was a real standout. All the portions are very generous, ingredients fresh and the bread they use for the sandwiches is SO tasty (not too bready - let the ingredients shine). 100% worth the trip down to the food court at Fashion Island! (Sorry I was too excited/hungry to photograph the actual food which we're currently eating the leftover of for dinner!)

Zood is delicious, healthy, flavorful Persian food!!! I first discovered this place when I was visiting my parents in Orange County (I live in NYC) in Spring 2023, and we decided to grab lunch at Fashion Island. We were so excited to see QUALITY middle eastern food at the food court and were more than impressed with all of their meats, side dishes, and sauces (trust me we tried most of them). The owner and I also had a chat about NYC, as I found out she lived in the city for a while as well, and she was as kind and passionate about serving good food as can be! I tried Zood for the first time last night and am so glad I did. The food was wonderful and the service was amazing. I tied a rice plate. The wonderful woman at the counter let me know I could do half beef half chicken, which was a wonderful choice. The meat was so flavorful, especially paired with the red pepper sauce. I also had the salad and eggplant dip as sides. There was more than enough to bring about half home for today. read more

Zood is one of my favorite places to grab authentic Persian cuisine while shopping at Fashion Island. Located in the food court, it is conveniently located and easy to find. The menu has a great variety of options for every taste, from juicy chicken or beef sandwiches, chicken or beef rice plates, and falafel to various salads, sides, and more. The lovely lady who is the owner is amiable and takes pride in serving authentic Persian meals. The staff are fast, efficient, and make you feel welcome. The prices are very reasonable considering the fresh, made-to-order nature of the food. Overall, Zood Fast Food is a gem hidden in the Fashion Island food court. If you're looking for a break from typical mall food and want an authentic Persian dining experience, I highly recommend checking them out. read more

I love women owned/run cafes, and as there aren't too many around that are Persian, this place stood out. The food is exceptional, and reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. Nothing has ever come close! The owner is so sweet, and she was fun to talk to! I know that this gem of a cafe will be enjoyed by many. Service and food are 5 stars. PLEASE READ!!! The owners (husband and wife) are incredibly hospitable and kind. They keep the place very clean and organized, and the food is absolutely amazing for the price. This will be a staple for me when I'm at Fashion island. This is my first time trying Persian food and I am so glad I did. I ordered the rice plate with chicken, eggplant dip, red pepper dressing, and extra hot peppers. 10/10 please give them a try. They truly deserve a bigger line than any other food place here. I wish I had a picture but after taking one bite I couldn't stop lol read more

I tried Zood for the first time tonight, and it was great. The service was fantastic - very friendly staff! I had the rice plate with 1/2 chicken, 1/2 beef. They were both good, but I think I preferred the chicken. They also gave me a taste of the falafel which was delicious! All the dips and sides are super tasty as well. Everything on the menu (except the bread) is gluten-free. I will definitely be going back!! read more

This is a new restaurant that recently opened up at Fashion Island, right next to the Chik fil a. As someone who wasn't too familiar with Persian food, I had a lot of questions, but the owner, who took my order, was super helpful, answered my questions and offered to let me try some samples before ordering. The portions were huge, and the meat and sauces were so fresh. Definitely worth the money. I loved how flavorful everything was and I plan on coming back to eat more. read more

Great food and plenty if it. Four of us tried chicken plate, beef plate, beet salad, falafel plate and the appetizer platter and oh! The best part was the Halva cookie. The owner was there and she is a beautiful petit Iranian woman who served us free hot tea with dates just like you would get in any Iranian home. Kudos to them for this gem. read more

First time trying this new and welcome addition to the food court at FI and so glad I did! I ordered two sandwiches and also received a plate. The flavors were so good, really well seasoned and everything was just so fresh. I love meals that are filling yet light and healthy. The portions are quite large and I recommend getting a few different things and sharing if possible. The owners are super friendly and take great pride in their food. read more

I suppose most people think of the food court in Fashion Island where Zood is located as a place to eat while shopping. An unassuming food court spot delivering amazing Mediterranean dishes. The flavors were great. The scratch-made hummus was the perfect consistency. We are vacationing in Newport Beach and quickly stopped by the food court. So glad we did. Being Persian we automatically got excited to see Persian fast food. Without being biased, I would say it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Highly recommend the beef sandwich with the mint yogurt sauce. So glad we stopped by and got to try this amazing place. Only wish they had a location in the Bay Area. read more

My wife and I were visiting family in Newport and were looking for a place to eat. Knowing that we were fans of middle eastern food, they highly recommended Zood to us. They said: "It's in a mall, but don't let that fool you -- it's amazing food!" And sure enough, they were right! We each got a sandwich - she had chicken with a tahini garlic sauce, and I had beef with a sort of tzatziki type sauce. It was fantastic! And a side of falafel was terrific as well. They put a bit of extra spice of some kind -- not sure what it was. But we love it. We absolutely would return! read more

I randomly got a rice plate here with mixed beef and chicken because I was in the area and I was so hungry. I was incredibly pleasantly surprised by the food being so freaking good. The meat was flavorful and smokey. The hummus portion was huge the whole meal just all around was so delicious. Service was also great and friendly. Highly recommend. read more

We are a Persian owned and operated Modern Fast Persian/Californian restaurant in Fashion Island Mall, Newport Beach, CA. Husband and wife team Mandana Shabani and Patrick Lanteigne have started this brand to bring fresh and vibrant flavors to the fast casual scene. And to remind you that good food can be Delicious, Generous and Zood (meaning Fast in Farsi). All of our food is made fresh from scratch. That means that our Sandwich Bread is baked locally, our Perfect Hummus and Signature Falafel both start as dry Chic Peas. Since it is within a food court, there are tables that accommodate parties of varying size in a well-lit area. The rolls were okay. I hate that they used paper as part of their packaging as the rolls stuck to them. I did not think the price was justified given exceptional rolls in O.C. at half the price.

You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

If you advertise gluten-friendly options, staff should be properly trained on cross-contamination and ingredient awareness. The atmosphere and location are great, but none of that matters if diners with dietary restrictions can't eat safely. I hope the restaurant takes food allergies and gluten sensitivities more seriously in the future.
