What I love about this place is how flavorful the food is. They also create great textures which is really important. The falafel is light and airy on the inside but crispy and crunchy on the outside, and is seasoned with great herbs that make it a real standout. The halva/chocolate cookie has such a great chewy, crispy texture that really satisfies. The sauces are really delicious- I had the garlic tahini and really enjoyed it. I normally love coming here and have ordered takeout a few times but this past experience didn't leave me very happy. I usually always order the 1/2 BLAM 1/2 chicken rice plates with hummus, borani, and the shirazi salad and have been happy with the freshness, flavor, and portion sizes but not this time. The portion sizes of both the meat and rice were skimpy and the shirazi salad tasted like it was days old. I complained and fortunately was able to get it replaced with a hummus. Besides the rice plates, I was really wanting to try the soft serve ice cream for the first time, specifically the Baklava saffron ice cream, but they had run out when I arrived to pickup my order. They quoted me 30 minutes for another batch to be made but after coming back and checking twice, I waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for this ice cream and they didn't even comp me for it after I asked the cashier if there was anything that he could do for the inconvenience of having to wait so long and needing to find ways to kill time so I didn't have to come back to try it on another trip. The ice cream was unique but it certainly wasn't worth a 1 hour and 20 minute wait. I'd much rather have Gelato Paradiso next door. I used to love coming here to get my Mediterranean food fix but would only come back for the falafel plate and the halva cookie. Those two things are the only things that I find worth it for another experience here. read more

Service was friendly, I left a tip which drove up the price to $14 and odd cents. That's pretty expensive for a sandwich on its own. I got the chicken sandwich with red pepper and feta sauce. Honestly, it was a bit small for the price and skimpy on the chicken. It looked delicious, but lacked flavor. I was disappointed because the top piece of bread fell apart after I unwrapped it. It was a huge mess. I'm sorry to say, this was a one time lunch break spot and I'll opt for other places instead. I almost forgot, I had to dock a star because there was something small and hard in the sandwich that was similar to biting a rock. Thank goodness I didn't break a tooth. read more

This is in the food court of Fashion Island, at the bottom level where the Barnes and Noble is. My mom and I were wandering around and happened to find it, and I'm so glad we did. The cookie alone was worth the five stars, but the salad we got was also amazing. The salad was huge and vibrant, with several interesting dressings to choose from. We couldn't decide which dressing to get and ended up ordering sides of all of them. The cucumber dressing was my favorite, but the pomegranate vinaigrette was a close second. We ate there seven hours ago and I still can't get over how beautiful the salad was. Or how good the cookie was. It was so chewy and flavorful. The prices were really great considering how much food it was. Overall we were thrilled. read more

Came by to check out this new Persian eatery at Fashion Island. A woman who I assume was the owner greeted us and was very kind in explaining all the dishes, making recommendations, and even giving our daughter a cool sticker. We are more or less vegetarian and very picky about Middle Eastern food, especially falafel. Their falafel was some of the best we've had. Crispy but not at all dry. I came in to the food court just looking for a snack and let me tell you the team at Zood completely hooked me with their falafel sample!! One little bite and I was enchanted! You can tell their food is done from scratch and with extreme love and care! I cannot remember the lovely chefs name who helped me but it started with an M!
