The food is similar to anywhere you can obtain at multiple chain places in OC: Soups, salads, sandwiches, et al at high prices. However, I have only been to the cafe side one time before for breakfast. On that occasion, the meal was unmemorable so I can't remember what I ordered. On this occasion, I met a business associate mid-morning, and we were standing by the bakery case waiting for another individual. We were both eyeing the small coconut cake (Bakery Case #1), and we agreed to split one. As you can see, they have a lot of variety in the case including a flourless chocolate cake, a chocolate cheesecake w/ raspberries and lemon bars, et al. The coconut cake was very good. It was moist, not too sweet and the coconut was fresh. We both commented how we should have ordered our own (both of us are big-boned): 4 Stars. The best coconut cake I have had recently was in NYC at Smith & Wollensky's. I would rate S&W's 5 Stars. Zov's version was pretty close, but there was something about S&W's that really made it stand out. The Azn waitress was very cute and came to check on us. When she saw that mine was gone, I told her that my business associate ate mine and that I needed another one. My comment brought a smile to her face as well as a laugh: 4 Stars. The ambiance is pretty generic w/ the exception of the bakery case: 4 Stars. My recommendation ala King's Hawaiian and Goldilocks: Come for the very good bakery items. The food is an afterthought. Had lunch here with my stepmom. Everything was just alright, but there was nothing to make me want to go back again. The service was pretty slow. Our waitress was nice, but lagging. We even had to get up and go find her at the end so we could pay, since we were sitting around forever waiting for her. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and chicken and swiss sandwich. The soup was chock full of herbs, a bit overpowering for me. Lots of oregano. There were maybe 4 pieces of chicken, and they were tiny. I only received 5 noodles. The soup was mostly carrots. My sandwich was okay, but a complete mess to eat. I did like the soft challah bread and the herbed mayo was tasty. My stepmom ordered a salad and sandwich combo, which she liked a lot. She also ordered a small side of their macaroni and cheese for us to share. The macaroni wasn't the best, the chicken tasted old and there was something about the sauce that I didn't like. Service and food were excellent. Went for brunch on Friday and split it. More than enough to eat. Indoor seating was lovely.

The magic bar here was everything! Basically everything that is good crammed into one dessert, nuts, chocolate, coconut and so much more, it is rich and filling and a huge slice, really more than one should eat by themselves! Prices are a bit steep, most items are around $7, but the quality and care put into each item really speaks for itself and this is the perfect place to indulge and spoil yourself. Service was great, it did take awhile since they were pretty busy, but they were very helpful and packaged our goodies nicely to go. The mini cakes look beautiful as do the cookies and other pastries, I will have to be back and try more! read more

My son and I really love sitting outside on the patio having lunch at Zov's! We usually go for a late lunch (to avoid the lunch rush) to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and adorable fountain out in front. The food and bakery at Zov's is truly amazing. Everything here is really good, but I especially like the chicken paillard and my son loves the pasta and bread. The best part about a meal here is desert. Occasionally, we'll order food to go and it takes at least 20 minutes at the bakery counter to decide what were getting (because everything looks so yummy!). My son loves the chocolate cupcake with white icing and sprinkles, but wants to get the coconut and carrot cake cupcakes at our next visit. The cookies are so adorable that we often buy extra to give to his teachers and friends. The service here has always been really great! Even when they're busy, the waiters are always really friendly and quick with our meals. It's just another reason why we always recommend Zov's to our family and friends!!! read more

Keep in mind, this review is for the bakery only!!! Wow....$62 Dollars later and walking out with ONLY 7 desserts, my bag sure seemed HEAVY all of a sudden. What a dessert nightmare! I walked in today and asked how much the desserts were. The gal at the counter said, "they start at $3-$10. There were 3 different cases so the mini desserts made sense to cost around $3 right. I figured with NO signs with prices, those mini desserts COULDN'T be more than $4 each right? Well, how WRONG I was to assume! I picked out the following desserts: 01. Lemon Curd Tart - Simple Lemon Tart, exactly what the name is, it's exactly what it tasted like. A bit on the sweeter side. The crust was a bit too soft for me. Tried to pick up the tart and it fell apart. No Bueno... 02. Cherry Chocolate Bread Pudding - The gal recommended eating this one warm, so I did just that! I think either cold or warm, it would taste the same to me. Too sweet for me. 03. Fresh Fruit Tart - I'm allergic to nuts so I didn't get to try this one! My friends said it was just okay. I figured that much already! 04. Red Velvet Cheesecake - Apparently, this was the BEST one of the evening. It was layer with Red Velvet cake, the center was cheesecake and bottom was Red Velvet again and topped with shaved WHITE Chocolate. 05. English Toffee Crunch Cake - Again, this had nuts but everyone seems to like this one 06. Carrot Cake Cupcake - Another crowd please-er! I wouldn't know becuz it had nuts. 07. Chocolate Cupcake - This was just okay. A bit DRY SIDE for me. Well, after trying some of the desserts and having friends tell me their verdict, I can HONESTLY say that I am NO WAY impressed with their bakery treats. I ordered Zov's omelet, with feta cheese, tomatoes, basil, and added avocado. Served with a side of fresh fruit and a crispy potato cake that was out of this world! The grainy toasted bread they brought before the meal was served was also wonderful. My husband had the short rib hash which is served with 2 sunny side eggs. He really enjoyed it. Came to Zov's Cafe for lunch. I had the tabouleh chicken salad, which was fresh and tasty with the tahini sauce, but the chicken was bland and dry. The salad was decent but nothing special and definitely overpriced ($15.95). It also didn't come with much chicken. I thought the menu was pretty standard/average, but everything was way overpriced. My puppy and I waited in the car and saw many people walking in so I could tell this place is poppin' I do recommend coming in your Sundays best, even if it's Monday...I was wearing my beach wear on a cloudy day, because...California. We don't live far and the food stayed warm until we reached our abode I ordered the Rosemary Lamb Chop, I did this because my guy was Adamant that they did not serve lamb burger for diner...I didn't bother to object and was quite content with my meal! The lamb was seasoned just right and it had just the right amount of rosemary. The meat itself was great, i ordered then medium well and they came out just like that. My boyfriend ordered a pasta dish with seafood and he loved it but did mention how spicy it was. The dessert was a delicious cheesecake that was light and not overpowered by the cheese part. Been going to Zovs Bistro for over 20 years. The food is still very good. The bakery is exceptional. I Love the lentil soup. One of the best on their menu is their kebabs. They are tender, juicy and full of taste. It is the best I've ever had! I also love on their starter menu the calamari in this buttery sauce served with bread. The mornings are good at Zovs as well. Zovs omelette with feta cheese and tomatoes with the best hash brown is always enjoyable. I am really not one for oatmeal but the crème brûlée oatmeal is really good at Zovs! I am partial to the original location in Tustin with the bistro side on one side and the restaurant side on the other. I like to sit outdoors on the patio or on the restaurant side near the bar or in a banquet. read more

Sunday 11 am and you think where can we go for brunch this late and then you call around and drive by hip Sunday brunch places and you find out the wait is 1.5 hours. Then you think why not Zov's? You drive to Zov's and you get to seat right away! Isn't that amazing? Then you walk to the bakery and order a brioche bread to snack on with your coffee while waiting for your breakfast. Someone had chicken and salmon had the fish one and both were equally delicious. The management/owner (?) came over to our table twice once he saw the appetizer tray going out. He seems to be involved with customer satisfaction. And in a very nice way. The only reason for the four on service, not because they weren't great, it's just it would've been nice if they came around to offer water and refills on coffee and other beverages. I waited the entire hour and a half looking for a refill. this is one of the few places where you did see a lot of wait staff which was really nice. Would really enjoy trying their breakfast offerings as well. Everything in that menu looked great. A really nice place for a large group for lunch or dinner. Very nice place, very big, from one end it looked closed. Once there, the service and surroundings were comfortable, for some reason it felt like a place Larry David might come for breakfast, and complain....a lot. Not a lot to complain about for the light Mediterranean breakfast was really nice. Simple though fresh, and the star of the show was the labneh. It filled the right gap and the endless coffee helped too. My companion went for the French toast, much lighter than expected or is typical. Plentiful too. For sure would like to come back, what also stood out was that we were in something of a hurry and the staff were efficient and attentive to that. read more

I went last night for dinner for the first time in this restaurant, the service and the reception was extremely nice. Were the main entrée meal was also very nice and tasty, even that they charged us for splitting the plate with my wife. My only concern with a place of such caliber, is the mix appetizer platter which does not meet with the locations standard, well I have had a much better mix appetizer platter with the original taste. If I could give this place a zero, I will. Today, I came in to buy desserts from the bakery and I was standing for 5 minutes and no one was helping me, and the 2 people working there were having a side conversation, and no one even greeted me or apologized for the wait! Please keep reading, the story gets very interesting. Second, their system was down, and they did not tell me before they started helping me place my order for desserts. Basically they could not accept cards and only cash. I could have walked out, if I knew this, but they did not tell me. I asked them if I can pay with venmo, they said no. Next thing, weirdest thing ever, they tell me we started accepting cards, after I said I have no cash. They then they took my card and literally wrote all my card info on a piece of paper and told me I can leave! No receipt, nothing!! I told them I don't understand this, I did not want my card info to be written down, can I get a receipt, at least? I remained calm, but was furious from inside. So it gets even weirder, the cashier takes a photo of my card info that he wrote down with the amount to bill next to it with his OWN PHONE, and tries to airdrop it to me!! And I am not sure who else accepted the airdrop. It literally has my name, security code, expiration and card number. I rushed to the bank, got cash, and came back to the store to find that their system is now up and running and not a single apology was mentioned by the bakery for the inconvenience, unprofessional customer service and wait. I am beyond disappointed...so shameful! I used to be a customer, and all my family, but I am never stepping foot here again, and I will tell my family and friends about this. It's unreal, and I feel disrespected. I was very courteous with them all along, but they don't deserve it, they just want your money. I canceled my card today and have to deal with updating all my automated payments...they put me in so much stress. Haven't been out to dinner much for ages and had looked forward to trying Zovs for the first time. My husband did allot of research & chose it for a nice dinner out as their menu seemed like a great fit for us. Our waitress was lovely & friendly & probably the highlight of our experience at Zov's. We were seated right away on Sat at 7:30 as there were quite a few empty tables. As a starter we chose the calamari & didn't realize exactly how they prepare it and our waitress later said she usually advises diners. It's calamari swimming in a creamy sauce, with a few crostini. A super rich dish that effectively killed our appetites. Then we pared down our food orders because of the calamari. We chose the roasted beet salad + short rib pappardelle pasta to share. The beet salad was lovely, as was the pasta. The pasta was a large portion and we only ate half and took the rest. It was a unique recipe and we were surprised the menu didn't mention the Indian spices that added the interesting flavors. Overall, it was an incredibly lowkey dining experience for a 'nice evening out'. When we arrived our first observation was how empty it was, our second was how casual the whole restaurant was. Had the almond vanilla flavored gelato here. Tried several samples like the chocolate and cookies and cream, but they tasted gross. The lady at the counter said the best seller was the almond flavored gelato, so I got that one. It was really good. The flavor was right on; tasted like ice-cream. They have other desserts here, but they seem a bit pricey. Not much seating in here, and their wifi is locked by password. The staff was friendly. Would return here for a hang out snack spot. read more
