Stopped by here first on a long weekend of car shopping. The place was difficult to find; it was in the middle of a business-park-type complex. (This may be good for the buyer, less competition to get the car you want if people can't find them? Like a hidden treasure.) We didn't have an appointment; we just knew there were a couple if cars that my dad wanted me to test drive to see if I liked the model. Zora said it was no problem, and he brought the first car over. We were very surprised with their business model! We found nothing else like it all weekend. You tell them what you want to see, then sit in the comfortable waiting room at the office while they pull cars from their warehouse storage next door. They don't hover over you or get pushy or even talk up the car too much, just tell you a bit about it and answer questions. While you test drive (on your own, if you like), they can pull up any other cars you want to see. All weekend as we visited small used lots and big dealer lots, we got more and more impressed by how things worked at ZRV! Both cars I drove were in the $8k-$12k range, one Toyota and one Scion. They were in great condition, drive perfect, very clean and right with no concerning sounds, little to no wear and tear apparent. We shopped around a LOT all week, by owner, used dealers, big dealerships, and it was very clear that the prices on the two I drove were very competitive, and a great value for the condition (and for the yelp raves about the customer service should you buy from ZRV). Neither car was exactly right for me and I eventually decided on another make and model that ZRV didn't have in their current inventory. I wish they had, because then we may not have had to shop all over So Cal 12hrs a day for 3 days straight to find it! Only a couple of days later, the Scion I drove already sold. The vehicle was what I was looking for, and I was able to negotiate a fair price. There was a small issue with the car pulling to the right, and when I asked, they offered to take it strait away to a shop on my behalf and have it aligned. I watched the gentleman at Big O Tires do the alignment, and all was as stated. This was excellent customer service. I was treated with respect, and so far so good on the Volvo. So. What to make of ZRV Auto... Well for starters, I had my eye on a very pretty 2005 BMW. I tried using the website to contact the dealership, no response. I tried calling the dealership several times using the number on the website. No answer. I tried emailing them and still had no response. Due to persistence and the fact that I really liked the car I decided to just show up to the dealership in person. Lious was the lone salesman that day and after test driving the car. He, my girlfriend, and I sat in his office negotiated on price and finally left when Lious agreed to hold the car for us for a week. I was going out of town and wanted to leave down a deposit. Lious told me that his boss said it wasn't necessary and sure enough when I arrive again in person, after calling three times, the car was sold. Learned a couple things after all this. Always get the deal and hold in writing. If they can't bother to contact you its a red flag. And never, NEVER, make any deal with ZRV Auto. Their word means nothing. read more

Below review written by my boyfriend. I stand behind it because it's one snazzy car! Zora at ZRV auto sales is simply a class act, top to bottom. If you want a GREAT car at a fair price while being treated with respect, then ZRV is your place. I had been looking for a Z3 for two years, and ended up way out in Palm Desert looking at one. On the way back, I decided to follow up on an internet ad for a 2002 Z3. I didn't think I'd like the color and trim, so I was really only showing up to see what one with 47K miles drove like. I called ZRV about the car and there was no answer (it was a Sat), and I couldn't find the dealership (more on that in a min), so I stopped at a hamburger stand. My phone rang and it was Zora, who said that they still had the car, I could come over right away. I mentioned that I hadn't seen a dealership lot or sign, and he explained that they were a small office inside a strip mall which was being painted, so it was hard to find. Not knowing what to expect, I headed over. Zora couldn't have been more friendly, honest, and relaxed. Once he had finished with the (very happy) customer in front of me (I hadn't made an appt), he took me over to drive the Z3. They keep their used cars in an indoor facility. He explained to me everything that they had done on the car since its purchase, and we had a test drive. The dash had a check engine light on, and he explained what the code was and that it had been fixed just not reset yet. Zora assured me that when the car would be ready for delivery the light wouldn't be on and he would put in writing a 30 day guarantee on it. They are indeed a "mom and pop" store that has found themselves a smart niche in the used car market... they have relationships with many dealerships, taking trade-ins over to auctions or something like that (I don't remember the specifics of their business model, and don't want to blow it for them). Because of this, they see a lot of cars and are able to make offers on some of them, being VERY CHOOSY about the cars that they take to sell. They make improvements to the cars and will be honest with you about the condition of the car. They can add in optional warranties if you like (aftermarket ones). I liked the car and the color combo enough then to make an offer for an OUT THE DOOR price (after tax, title, license, etc). I went on my way and looked at 2 other Z3's that day, both with really pushy salespeople and suspect issues with the cars. A couple days later Zora called and told me where we stood with the car, and made a very NO PRESSURE offer that seemed fair to me. We made a verbal agreement on the phone for the out the door price. THIS NEXT PART IS VERY IMPORTANT. Over the course of the next few days Zora prepped the car for delivery. It was detailed, and the stereo did not have a code on it (BMW's require a code if the stereo is unused for some time or out of a battery). Zora spent 3 days with different dealerships and stereo people, at his time and expense, getting the code working and the stereo fixed for delivery. He sent me the emails with the codes so that I would have them for future use. The registration for my neighborhood turned out higher than his estimate by several hundred dollars. He didn't blink and took the cost on his end to make sure we kept our verbal price. After all the paperwork was done, he offered to get me the booklets, leather case, and manual for the car (which weren't there). He didn't have to do this at all, the deal was done I had the key in my hand. ZRV didn't have them in stock, but he said he would track some down and send them with the plates. A few weeks later, a nice package arrived with the booklet and a leather case for the manual. I know that sounds small, but look online, a used booklet and case is like $150! ALL OF THE ABOVE ZORA DID WITHOUT EVER BEING DIFFICULT OR CHANGING OUR VERBAL AGREEMENT FOR THE OUT THE DOOR PRICE. I have had many sleazy salesmen in the past give me a "we have a deal" quote on the phone just to get me into the dealership , then say that there was a difference in what they said and what the price was ACTUALLY going to be. I waited 3 months to write this review because I wanted to verify that the car is indeed in the condition that Zora promised. I have had the car in to a very respected and trusted BMW mechanic, who did the routine maintenance (flush fluids, oil change, belts) that I wanted to do to make sure I know everything that is going on with the car. He said to me, "if you ever sell this car, make sure you talk to me first", so I know that's a good sign! I couldn't have been treated with a higher degree of respect, and couldn't be happier that I made my purchase from ZRV. They treat their customers right, are honest, and no pressure people. Really good experience buying the car and spending some time with Zora, but the car that I bought did have some issues I had to fix within a week of purchasing it. The strange thing is they didn't even come up when I got it inspected. I'll be leaving a separate review for the shop that did the inspection, which was quite disappointing. The car I bought was a Golf TDI. Beautiful thing, 2006 with low miles. The dream road trip machine. I liked everything about it during the test drive, and the only funny thing I noticed was that the clutch had a bit of a whirring feel when it was being engaged or disengaged. That ended up not even being an issue according to my mechanic, Top Shop Automotive in Santa Barbara. As I was driving it home on the 101, I noticed something odd: the temperature gauge was running low, and by low I mean 80°F. I kept watching it and found that it bounced around quite a bit and got higher when I was in a lower gear or accelerating more. While I was driving, since there's not much else to do, I called a good friend who's a mechanic and he said it could be that the thermostat was stuck open or the gauge had some issues. When I got home, I took it to Top Shop and found that's pretty close to what happened. The thermostat was an "old black design" which Volkswagen replaced most of a long time ago. They were known for being stuck open, which is way better than being stuck closed of course. (My last car overheated so I watch the gauge like a hawk now.) I also found out that the temperature sensor was faulty. So I got them both replaced, which was about $500 with the labor, parts, and initial diagnosis. I was fine with that -- it happens. But there was one more thing. The front left control arm bushing was broken and needed to be replaced. Sadly not a quick job. That weighed in at around $500 as well. I was pretty disappointed in the inspection shop for missing it because it's a pretty key thing. At this point I'm a bit somber about my purchase with ZRV. Zora was a great guy and I enjoyed the experience, I just didn't expect to have to pay $1000 to make sure I can drive the car safely within the first few weeks. The nice thing was Zora took around that amount off the price of the car when we discussed things. It's hard to see that as a good thing when I still had to pay the money for something later, but I do appreciate him working with me. In the end, three stars seems appropriate. It wasn't bad, and it could have been better, and I'm still glad I chose ZRV. read more

I just purchased by second car from ZRV Auto, and the reason it's only my second car is because the first car I bought lasted 7 years. I bought a 2006 Honda Pilot with 60K miles on it, and I drove it to 200K miles. Zero problems until very recently when I needed to get rid of it. 2 months ago I gave 5 stars for the car was running and didn't seem anything wrong and transaction seemed very smooth, Zora told me he would try and get me the cd needed for the touch screen navigation system to call him in a few weeks, but to make sure I gave a review, I gave my review and called he said "oh yes I believe I did get the cd in let me call you right back" didn't hear from him since, now my engine light has been coming on so in me trying to fix this problem I removed the negative from the battery which deactivated the security system so once again I call him asking for it, and was told it should be in the book but the book says to ask the dealer if I do not have it...again he ask me to send the information to him and hangs up, then doesn't answer, he has not been very helpful after making the sale but I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I will give a better rating once I start receiving help to actually be able to use the vehicle. read more

I found a decent BMW here that I inquired about via email. Zora, I believe the owner, responded quickly and answered questions about this car. I scheduled a mobile mechanic to look at this car for the following day since I wasn't in the immediate area and confirmed that with Zora. The following day the mechanic arrived on time, but was evidently on his phone for up to 45 minutes after he got there. Zora responded via email that his appointment was for 2pm and it was now for 2:45pm. I apologized via email, though I don't know the circumstances of why the mechanic was on the phone, and running late. After all he was a mobile mechanic I hired online. Zora then calls me to point out the same thing! So I apologized again, as he seemed to be making a huge stink out of it. While I realize everyones time is valuable, I was clearly apologizing for something that wasn't my fault, and as a car dealer and businessman I figured he could roll with the punches. I felt his customer service severely lacking. After a complete inspection was done, that I paid for, I took two days to think about it, before I emailed Zora back with an offer early morning. In the late afternoon I had yet to hear back from him, so I emailed him again, making sure that he received my email and how he felt about the offer, letting him know I was open to negotiation. Guess what? No answer! The guy that was able to respond to all of my previous emails within minutes was no longer responding to my emails. Now 1 day later, I see the car missing off the website. Im sure this means the car was sold. And since it was sold, I guess Zora didn't value a potential customer enough to respond or even try to make a counter offer if I really wanted the car. I don't appreciate this behavior, and even if they have the exact car I want all over again, will not buy from this dealership. Bad customer service skills. And honestly, I would have paid full price. I would have paid more if someone else was interested. But, Zora will never know that, because he didn't bother to respond to me. Bad business. FRAUD! DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE. I bought a 2009 beetle and twenty minutes later the clutch gave out on the 55 freeway. I was stuck on the side of the road for two and half hours. Zora was not helpful at all since I signed an "As Is" contract. I was given a clean Carfax on the car and Luis told me they put the car through a rigorous inspection but there's no way they didn't know the clutch was bad. I had the car towed- paid $3,000 for a new clutch, $600 for diagnostics when the engine light come on two weeks later. It needs a new fuel pump, brake pads and back tires. None of this was mentioned when I bought the car. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau - and I will continue to pursue this company as a bad actor so that no one else will experience what I did. read more

Originally I gave a good review. but three months after I bought my Miata unfortunately the car took a complete turn for the worse.... I had a failed rod. Only thing I could do was buy a NEW engine. When you buy a car that's used you take a risk. At first when i drove the car home the first day the check engine light was on. They helped me out and took it to there mechanic and he fixed it... it happen again a week later. same thing. After awhile I got tired of it and took it into the Mazda dealer. They told me the bad news... I told the guy at zrv what happen and he pretty much was like. Oh that sucks...but of course he's not going to spend 8k to fix a car for me. So I ended up spending 8k on a car worth 8k to have it running good again. Now I would say that's a fluke seeing that the reason I trusted there cars was because of the good Yelp reviews. Unfortunately I recommend them to a family friend. She got a pretty nice looking 06 Audi. After taking it home she was having problems with the check engine light and a couple of other things. Turns out there was a 2k problem with the alignment or something like that... my best Advice to you is take whatever car your interested in to a dealership and have them take a look. Maybe cost you a couple 100 to have it looked over. But could end up saving you 1000s. I wish I did that. read more

I live near riverside. Went to brea to see a car at zrv and wanted to get it checked out by a mechanic. Found a very highly rated mechanic right next to their lot. ( literally 100 feet away next door, Star Auto). They refused for the car to be seen by them. I arranged for the car to be inspected by another highly rated mechanic 1.2 miles from their lot on Saturday morning at 8am. I confirmed with zrv the appointment twice. Saturday comes and I drive 35 miles to the mechanic and wait there for an hour and no one arrives. He never came! I guess that tells you enough. read more
