Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes after making a reservation two months ago. Drinks took fifteen minutes and waiter acted like we weren't worth his time. It's almost like they have a 13 year old kid cooking in the kitchen. The food is very below average. The only thing that we liked that we ordered was the side of carrots because they were coated in butter and sugar. The French onion soup tastes like Lipton Onion Soup Mix. The crab cakes tasted like they were recycled from plastic grocery bags. However, the service was very good. But maybe consider getting a new chef? Would NOT recommend. read more

Our first mistake was not looking at the reviews before we went to this steak house. Our steaks were served with no steak knife but it would not have helped we needed saws to get through them. The waiter was weird and a little creepy. He ran around the dining room like he was super busy but there was only 2 other tables from ours. Very disappointing. My friends took me out for my birthday and I wanted to support local since I live in Heber, so I picked Mr. Z's. I had eaten at the Pub a few times prior and it was always good so I wanted to try their Steakhouse. A few of us ordered the lemon drop martini which was obviously not made with fresh lemons, the sweet and sour mix made it taste terrible. My friends ordered the Rib Eye steak and there was so much fat on it, I took most of it home to feed my dogs. I ordered the filet mignon which was cooked properly at med-rare but the béarnaise sauce was terrible and I love, love steakhouse béarnaise, but this had way too much vinegar and not enough tarragon leaves. This was a first for me from a steakhouse to have bad béarnaise sauce. The asparagus was over cooked. The potatoes were just okay. Presentation on the plate was not attempted at all. I ordered lemon cake for dessert, but it tasted like vanilla, there was no lemon in it. All these issues are so easy to do properly and would make the food and drinks taste so much better, I will most likely not ever return to Mr. Z's. They just don't take the minimal care and effort to make their product good. The service was good, but there were only 2 other tables in the place. I don't know how they are surviving in todays world with this lack luster effort to the quality of their product. Too bad. read more

This place was terrible. We decided to go on a Saturday night after seeing some reviews talking about how great the buffet is. Maybe there was a fill in cook that day. We didn't experience any of tje great food we had read about. Many reviews raved about the prime rib. There was none there. No steak or anything like it. The carving station offered a pork roast that was so dry it was inedible. Nothing seemed fresh or had a grwat flavor. The desserts looked delicious so we thought maybe at least we could have a noce dessert. NOPE, just terrible. The cheesecake had no sugar. Not sure of they forgot or this is the way they think cheesecke should taste. Nothing spectacular. Our service was terrible and the waitress acted put out that she had to do her job. The only thing that wa s worth eating qas the salad bar. So we paid $32 each for a salad bar. Waste of money. read more

YIKES! Where to begin. On our anniversary this week, my wife and I decided to give this place a chance instead of other high-end steak houses in Utah. Boy did we pick the wrong day. The staff was great and friendly however the place was dead. There were only two other patrons and it was very quiet but nice. We started with the fondue which was pretty good and the bread was fresh. We both had the Swiss onion soup which was way too salty and 80% bread and cheese. Not much soup for $7.00. We ordered the main course. 21 day aged ribeye and 21 day aged New York strip. With the 1lb baked potato and spinach salad. When our waiter John brought the steaks we noticed something odd. Every 45 dollar steak I've ever ordered in the past has always come out sizzling and scalding hot to perfection. These steaks had NO sizzle. In fact my wife's New York strip was hardly warm. My ribeye was ok. (way too much pepper on the rub) it didn't taste aged at all. Most likely they sat under a heat lamp while my baked potato was microwaved (cold center). The waiter John was very empathetic and the manager came out and tried to fix everything. They did a great job of trying to save our dinner but it hard to enjoy when your food is in the back getting re-grilled. It's especially frustrating when your spending over $150 on food. The manager did buy our deserts and sides and I'm sure on a busy night this place is very good. John was very good and we left him a huge tip for trying to fix the situation. As much as I'd like to recommend a local restaurant, I can't recommend Z's. I'm sure during peak season it's great but if you go during the week this could easily happen to you. Stick with the big dogs during the week like Spencer's, Flemming's, or Ruth's Chris. read more

Went here for a company dinner. It was empty at 7:00 on a Saturday night. The live music was very loud, and made it hard to hold a conversation. Lemonade was way to sweet, and tasted like chemicals. Food was sub par, not fresh, and expensive. Overall, sad we came here; we will never come again even though we are Midway locals. Service was awful, food was bad. read more

Great food! The filet mignon was one of the best steaks I've had. My wife got the chicken under a brick and it was also extremely good: juicy and flavorful. The Mac and cheese (although I had doubts) was awesome! I would get it as my side every time! The service was helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was great. A little fancy, but not stuffy. My wife and I recently stayed overnight at the Zermatt Resort for our anniversary and decided to try Z's Steak and Chop Haus for dinner. It was a Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM, and we did not have reservations (didn't think that would be a problem early on a weeknight). The hostess asked us if we had reservations, to which we replied "no." She told us they were pretty booked and could maybe get us a table in an hour or so. However, looking around the place, it was completely empty except for one occupied table. Astonished that she would not seat us in their nearly empty restaurant, we decided to eat somewhere else. About an hour later, as we were walking past Z's Steak and Chop Haus on our way back to our room, we glanced in the restaurant and there were still very many unoccupied tables. I'm sure the food is good here, but we weren't even given the opportunity to find out. Very disappointed with how we were treated here. read more

We absolutely loved our dining experience with Z's Sunday breakfast buffet. The service was outstanding! All of the morning staff was polite, helpful,considerate, and professional. And the food was delicious! There are so many food options...crepe & omelet station, fresh fruit, baked goods that are made in-house. Oh my gosh! The food is off the chart delicious and the service is outstanding. Not a better value anywhere in the Wasatch Back than Z's. We had their filet mignon and it was as good if not better than Ruth Chris and HALF the price with veggies and potatoes included not ala carte. The soup and salad buffet is excellent with a huge selection and quality produce. Their Saturday night prime rib buffet is soooo good and affordable! Come with an appetite! read more

I truly do not understand the negative reviews...my family and I had dinner here New Year's Eve and enjoyed all aspects of the meal....fantastic service (we really appreciated the gentleman that constantly ensured our glasses were full, he was an accessory server) and our waiter was great and very attentive. Our Swiss onion soup was good, steaks were cooked perfectly and very tender, and the bread pudding was outstanding!!! I am not sure of the management took other viewers posts to correct some of the issues but for is it was a great experience and if we come back to Utah we will definitely be revisiting Z's!! read more

No one told us that it was seafood Buffett when we made reservations. We were both expecting a nice steak dinner. The Buffett was 75 dollars a plate! I have had better seafood at Skippers! Here is the real shame of this place. The food and atmosphere is pretty decent. The customer service here is sub par. They have a piano. On a Friday night there is no piano player. Can't say enough good comments about this place. EVERYTHING, was perfection. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, the food cooked PERFECTLY. We had the chateaubriand for two with grilled asparagus and a baked potato. The chef came to our table to cut it for us. It was absolutely amazing to say the least. The BEST steak I have ever had the pleasure to put into mouth. We had a creme brulee for dessert that was big enough for 2 or more people to share. The Prices were amazing too. We thought for such a nice, upscale steakhouse we were gonna end up breaking the bank, however we were very pleased. We will definitely return again and again. read more

We have no idea how the food was, the service was so bad in even trying to get a reservation that we never went. We made a reservation in the morning for 6:30p on Open Table as well as on the system on their own website. 1 hour before our reservation, we get an email that says the restaurant is closed for a private function until 7:45p and please call if you have any questions. Well, I tried calling several times and always got a recording. We were an hour out, had made plans already so this left us in major limbo. When I finally got someone to response by email, they said they had called the number but couldn't reach me. Really? They had called the business number on the signature of my email but NOT the mobile number I had included on both the reservation in on the voice messages left on their machine. Then when we DID leave the number again in response to a request, no one bothered to call us back. They tried to tell us that OpenTable had seated us at a piano...really? I don't see that on my app anywhere. Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad! HORRIBLE service! This was our first time (even as TRUE locals) trying to eat there and we will NEVER try again, nor will we recommend it to friends or visitors. Their management needs to go learn how customer service is done - although from what we've heard from friends who have stayed there that it seems to be an attitude at Zermatt resort that they are so special, customer service doesn't matter. Come on Zermatt - get your act together and treat customers with more respect! read more

The seafood buffet was below par. The crab was watery and the crab quality was horrible. The service was even worse. The staff was severely disorganized. To get a plate cleaned off the table or a drink refill was a struggle for the staff. The one positive was the read pudding which was a plus. Will not come back. read more

Absolutely amazing!!!!! Started out with a slow seating but was made up quickly! The hostess was super friendly and loved her suggestions on the menu! The waitress, Rachel, was absolutely perfect! She was extremely friendly, took great care of us, our glasses were always full and she made sure everything was perfect! This was by far the best service and food I have had in a long time! The fondue was amazing, the Z special steak for two was amazing, and the satire mushrooms and au gratin just made the meal even better!! Couldn't have asked for a better meal and service! read more

GREAT! The salmon was as good as I've had, anywhere, even at twice the price. It came with sweet potatoes that I've only seen equaled, not surpassed, at Snake Creek Grill. The mixed vegetables were good. I would give them a 3.5-4. I had mixed berry pie with ice cream for dessert and it was simply the best I have ever had in any restaurant. Haili, our waitress, prepared the pie and ice cream in a way I've never seen before, and that made it even better. Hope she's there when you go. I don't know if that preparation is standard procedure at the restaurant. Lastly, the food is underpriced. Hope it stays that way. Awesome atmosphere! Looking forward to going again soon. read more

Not worth the price. Food is average, but service is beyond bad. Somehow we spent over two hours there battling to order the things we wanted and still felt rushed. We never got to order our soup and had to fight to get our wine order in, but when we first came in the server hardly gave us any time to decide before she loudly demanded our entree order. The atmosphere was uncomfortable. We were seated next to screaming children and the server should probably work at TGI Fridays rather than a nice restaurant. Her volume and rude demeanor were out of control. But, we didn't see her a lot because we were served more by bus boys than anyone else even though our server only had a couple tables (hardly anyone was there). Our drinks were rarely refilled and we didn't get our bread until the end of the meal even though we asked 3 different people for it a total of 5 times throughout the meal. We wanted to have it for our fondue appetizer because the appetizer only came with three small pieces for some reason. When we brought our issues to the server she aggressively shut them down. We left full of anxiety. We weren't discounted for our cold food or the bad service we received. We later complained to the front desk of the hotel, but after talking to two different people over the phone we still haven't received anything but a back handed apology and condescending justifications.
