Ootoro, chutoro, and akami - tuna

We visited the newly renovated location and it was beautiful. They expanded seating so that the outdoor space is on a patio and the interior was designed to be more modern. We had a lot of small bites throughout the night but my favorite was definitely the nigiri. We got the omakase so it was chef selection for that night but they were the perfect size and seasoned just right. I also loved the chutoro but it's personal preference because my boyfriend loved the otoro. It's a beautiful place for a date night and the staff were all kind.

I've been coming here for years--it was already one of the most popular izakaya and sushi spots in town, and I recently visited again after they relocated. The sushi is still as impressive as ever, and the service remains exceptional. It's not easy to find a place in LA that delivers both an authentic Japanese izakaya atmosphere and high-quality sushi, but this spot truly excels at both. From the food and ambiance to the hospitality, everything is consistently top-notch. Their appetizer selection is also fantastic, making it a great place to enjoy with a good sake pairing. If you love Japanese food, this is definitely a place worth visiting!!

Good, but not great. Tasty, but not flavorful. Fun, but not memorable. Service was very attentive and prices were average for sushi. But the items were nothing to write home about. King Salmon, Nigiri Bluefin, Red Snapper, Pepper, Pork Belly, Prime Beef, Edamame, Barracuda, Fresh (no rice), and Sake were all edible, but it wasn't anything special. I wanted to enjoy this place, and I did, but it wasn't something I would drive from Orange County to LA for. A fun local spot, but then it would be too pricey for a local spot. Try for yourself. I love this place. Great ambiance. Right parking spots but valet is available. Food is not the best sushi but it's still very flavorful - just a tad more pricey than other spots. Service was lovely.

celebrated the grand opening of Izakaya Osen's newly relocated Silver Lake spot and everything was just as amazing as I remembered. the new space is so beautiful, modern, and elevated while still keeping that cozy izakaya feeling the lychee martini and lychee negroni were so fruity and refreshing, and the food was incredible from start to finish ! we had: * Miso Soup -- tofu, wakame, scallion * Tako Ceviche Tostada -- octopus ceviche, avocado mousse, salsa macha, tostada * Kani Yaki -- snow crab, potato, kewpie mayo * Halibut Sashimi -- halibut, mango salsa, yuzu soy * Tuna Trio Sashimi -- bluefin tuna 3 ways * Premium Sushi -- assorted premium nigiri including uni + shrimp * Kushiyaki Skewers -- sea bass, chicken thigh, asparagus bacon, mushrooms * Yuzu Sorbet -- refreshing citrusy finish

one of the better japanese restaurants in the area of silverlake! would absolutely recommend getting one of the dons. seafood taste fresh and the seaweed they provide is so unique. Also, if you're looking to celebrate a persons birthday here, don't even hesitate! they made me feel really special and i can't thank them enough for their kindness. Restaurant is kinda small and they have some seating outside. I recommend to get a reservation for parties more than 4. parking is also valeted, but we parked down the street.

Had the chance to attend Izakaya Ozen's grand opening party and left really impressed. The menu felt thoughtful from start to finish, with each course bringing something different to the table. Some standout dishes for me were the tuna trio sashimi. The cuts were beautiful, succulent, and incredibly tender. The premium sushi course was also a highlight, especially the king salmon with truffle and the amebi with uni and caviar, which felt like such a luxurious bite. The halibut sashimi was fresh and delicate with a great balance from the mango salsa and ponzu. My personal favorite of the night was the miso glazed sea bass from the kushiyaki course. Perfectly caramelized with that sweet and savory glaze, flaky, and packed with flavor. Ending with the yuzu sorbet was the perfect finish to the meal. Beyond the food, everything felt elevated while still being welcoming. Excited to come back and try more from the menu!

Really enjoyed my meal at Izakaya Osen! The sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh and tasted very high quality. We ordered a few different nigiri and every piece was delicious. The ceviche was one of my favorite dishes of the night, and the skewers were super flavorful too. For drinks, I got the Tokyo cocktail and my friend got the Lychee Martini, both were great! Overall, everything we ordered was fresh, well-prepared, and worth it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for sushi and drinks.

We came here during dineLA last year but ended up opting not to do the dineLA menu because they seemed so busy and understaffed at the time it didn't seem worth the hassle. We signed in and waited then were seated at the bar. The server greeted us and the first thing he did was apologize to us, saying they were understaffed and it was dineLA. We completely understood and appreciated he told us, but so far nothing had gone wrong with our service so it wasn't needed and set a strange tone to the rest of our experience. But he seemed so flustered we felt really bad and opted to order simple bowls and a beer instead of the multi course dineLA meal. He informed us it might be a wait for our food if we ordered from the sushi bar. We agreed. In my opinion we didn't wait very long for our food. Once we got it I thought it was delicious and the fish quality was great even if was quite an expensive bowl at almost $40. It took a bit of time and multiple flagging of servers to get the check, a box, and then a pen to sign the check. Overall I would have loved to try more dishes but it just seemed too busy and loud to relax and the staff seemed too overwhelmed for such a small place. Perhaps I'll come back if I'm in the area again one day.

Stopped by the grand opening of Izakaya Osen Silver Lake and was really impressed. The new location is gorgeous inside with a much more elevated feel, but the food is still everything I loved about the original spot. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It's great to see them grow while keeping the same quality that made people love them in the first place. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Silver Lake.

In my opinion this place is the most amazing Sushi restaurant for Sake lover and also Yakidori aficionado who can truly appreciate the fresh sushi and quality of different meat and seafood and vegetables perfectly cooked over charcoal fire. The Sushi comes from the live fish shipped directly overseas via Fed Ex daily and local Unni comes from Santa Barbara. The menu items are varied and numerous. The service staff is extremely well versed and recommended appropriate food items that go well. His knowledge of various Sake and the food pairing made huge difference in our satisfaction over the items that we ordered. Over and above any other Sushi restaurant, this particular Sake pairing with small yakitori style skewered meat and vegetables perfectly cooked over gas charcoal fire is unique as its name suggests. This restaurant is the original one of three Osen group's restaurants owned by Chef Cho with strong history of serving initially in San Francisco area and now expanding into LA, Irvine and eventually into San Diego area. With my initial experience here today I have absolutely no doubt that Chef Cho and his partners will be every bit successful in the endeavors of bringing the best tasting Japanese Sushi and Kushiyaki Jidori style of small dishes that pair well with different liquors including high quality Sake. Go forth and try. You will be pleased.

Really enjoyed our lunch here! Everything we ordered was delicious, and you could really taste how fresh and high quality the seafood was. The Premium Sushi Hachi Mori was easily one of favorites and they were all prepared beautifully. The Toro Uni Bowl was so rich and flavorful. The rich toro and creamy uni paired well with the seaweed and rice making it the perfect bite each time! The sea bass was super tender and I loved the flavor and the pork belly skewers were cooked perfectly. The restaurant has a modern, cozy atmosphere that's perfect for a date night or to share a nice meal with family or friends, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We had a really enjoyable experience, and I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu! :)

From silky toro to gold-flecked bites--this tasting menu is pure indulgence @osen_izakaya is getting a head start on @dinela, and trust me--you'll want to experience this tasting menu now before the official dates roll around. Available Monday-Thursday from 5PM, this multi-course lineup is thoughtful, refined, and deeply satisfying. The house-made salmon tofu ball arrives delicate and silky in a warm dashi broth with soy sauce and mushrooms--comforting in the best way. Halibut sashimi with mizuna is bright and refreshing, finished with yuzu skin sauce, tomatoes, and cucumber. The seared toro is rich and buttery, balanced by minty edible flowers. Then comes three premium sushi pieces (chef's choice)--with the sweet shrimp topped with uni absolutely stealing the show. The miso Chilean sea bass is a standout: perfectly cooked and paired with an addictive house-made parsley chimichurri you'll be dreaming about later. Don't skip the Crispy Seaweed with Toro, finished with caviar and gold flakes for that extra luxe bite. Everything wraps up clean and citrusy with a Yuzu Sorbet.

Sushi was mushy and mealy. Not sure if it wasn't fresh or improperly stored, but not a great experience, esp for the price.

And service was also not great - the server brought out a drink that we didn't order by mistake, told us we could have it on the house, but ended up charging us for it anyway. Had already left when we noticed it. Also told us cake fee was $10, but ended up charging us $20. Food-wise, very hit or miss. The unadon, hamburger steak, and curry udon were all really good, but the yakitori skewers tended to be disappointing. The Tsukune was dry, the Negima was quite bland. The Miso Black Cod was also quite overdone, became quite rubbery when served and also was cold. Overall, I would not come back again, or recommend it. Given the price point, I expected that the food and service left much to be desired.

The menu now leans much more toward fine dining, and the prices definitely reflect that. As someone who's more of a casual diner and really enjoyed the previous menu, this new direction just wasn't for me. The staff were very kind and took the time to explain all the changes, which I appreciated. However, we ordered about six dishes and were surprised at how small the portions were. On top of that, most of the items were unfortunately pretty bland. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I really miss the old menu.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

It's quite small inside and they happen to have a few tables outside. I have mixed feelings about the service though but it is what it is, just feel like we weren't attended properly and service was slower. The menu has tons of options, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately the rice balls I wanted to try were sold out for the night- which how do you run out of something popular at a 7 PM dinner? Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. I really enjoyed the food here and will be back to try more items.

Chirashi - the fish is QUALITY. 2 types of each fish, so it's still shareable with a friend. Standouts: their Uni was so creamy and fresh. Also loved the kanpachi pieces - firm and flavorful. Hamachi was also so buttery and fresh. The Miso Chilean Seabass skewers were the best. So tender, soft and grilled and marinated perfectly. What a nice thick satisfying chunk. This is a must order. Pressed sushi - these are hard to find outside of Vancouver so it was a delight to see them! We had the salmon and hamachi version. Loved that the Hamachi had a delicious spicy kick to it! The matcha mochi chocolate cake was so soft, gooey with strong matcha flavor! Great way to end the meal. It's on a poppin street on West Hollywood. We walked to Dayglow for matcha and the Pacific Design Center for inspiration.

It has the warm, welcoming feel of a family-owned business. We ordered the Kiss of Fire roll, spicy tuna roll, and a selection of nigiri (I've attached photos of all of them). Everything was delicious and clearly made with very high-quality fish. On top of that, it's incredibly well-priced compared to nearby alternatives. Excellent value for the quality. We will definitely be returning!

The pacific oysters are a good size and I really enjoyed the yuzu-kosho ponzu sauce on it. The spicy tuna crispy rice have a good amount of spicy tuna on top & I loved how crispy they made the rice underneath. The Kodo trio comes with uni, toro, & wagyu and the Toro sampler comes with o-toro, chu-toro, akami. All of these handrolls were phenomenal & just left you wanting more. The Wagyu katsu you cook on a hot stone at the table which I liked as an interactive dish. The Wagyu cheeseburger was dripping with juice but still had those crunchy edges. The Uni pasta was beautiful & delicious. The Chimichurri prawns I could eat multiple plates of- the shell comes sliced down the middle so you just have to peel it off. For dessert we ordered the Kodo basque cheesecake & Miso chocolate torte. I love a basque cheesecake & the sesame crumble added great texture. The miso chocolate torte made me wish I ordered my own. Everything from start to finish was amazing, it's hard to pick favorites. Parking- valet $13
