Build your own little poke bowl with spicy tuna
    Aashna K.

This restaurant had great options even for people who don't eat seafood (my friend got chicken). I was craving something fresh on this hot day and this really hit the spot! Pros: Everything was so fresh! They had both a cashier to order from and also a screen to order yourself from so the line moved very fast! I thought the price point was appropriate for how much you got. Cons: I expected the spicy tuna to be cubed and tossed in spicy sauce, but it was minced. It still tasted great and the portions were very generous for being the smaller bowl option. Would I go back? Absolutely! The portions, price point and efficiency was great- I definitely recommend

Had lunch with friends today at Optimism Hall and we all got entrees from different places to share. It was pretty busy inside which is pretty normal for a Saturday. There was about a 15 min wait to get this Sushi Burrito. Overall, this was tasty but not something that I would order again.

Love Zukku - always get the shrimp volcano. This time I was pregnant and couldn't have raw tuna and they easily substituted the tuna for more tempura shrimp. Highly recommend!

I really enjoy optimist hall. First time eating there and tried this place. It was quick and efficient to order. The staff was kind. It was easy to find seating, it is everywhere inside and outside.

    Zukku roll, pork gyoza

I got the pork gyoza and zukku roll. The gyoza was perfectly crispy and so flavorful. The zukku roll was great I might ask for no lemon on it next time but everything else meshed well and the shrimp tempura gave it a nice crunch. Don't be fooled by how much spicy mayo you can see in the pic it's the perfect amount and not overly loaded. Service was quick although it was a Monday evening so Optimist Hall wasn't too crowded.

Embarrassingly small amount of fish and masago, no sauce

I ordered 2 "big" poke bowls and edamame. The "big" poke bowls are supposed to come with 2 meats. I received none on one bowl, and an embarrassingly small amount on the other. I paid extra for masago, and received the smallest amount I could imagine. There was also no sauce on the bowls. The edamame was not included in my order either. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!

Solely about the amount of food you get.. $17 after tip & tax for a small (lil poke) poke bowl with ONE OUNCE of fish? The worker said there was one ounce in the small bowl, 2 ounces in the big bowl. I'm actually appalled at how little food you get The quality of the food is actually really good. Sushi rice is good, veggies are fresh.. never coming back though.

This is my favorite place in Optimist Hall because the ingredients taste so fresh which I usually don't notice with other food. They make the food pretty quick but the only thing to note is the portions are a bit small than usual. I usually get the sushi burrito or poke bowl here and I'm never disappointed with my order and the workers are very nice.

    Godzilla sushi burrito (insta: @mmmashterchef)

Came in my month long food road trip. Coolest food hall I've been to in a while. The venue is awesome, parking convenient, and the folks at this stand were super friendly! The Godzilla sushi burrito was loaded with many ingredients and took me on a texture journey with soft to crunchy to between. Ate super fresh and enjoyed every single complexity it had!

The Queens Crown Roll was amazing! Fresh, great flavor, good sauces. Great staff, friendly and service-oriented. I would definitely recommend!!

I like a fusion concept, and the menu had great options for pre built sushi burritos and poke bowls or customizing your own. I went with a curated sushi burrito because I figured someone had thought through the best combos already and I wanted to try what is essentially a giant uncut sushi roll. The Gulf burrito has crab, shrimp, veggies including avocado, cream cheese, wanton chips, and spicy mayo. I just love a blend of seemingly disparate ingredients that still harmonize perfectly in one dish. It is packed with filling, so it makes for a very filling lunch. The customization option is also great. The preparation didn't take long even with a decent sized line, and they text when food is ready. If you're able to swing by Optimist Hall, this is a solid foodie option.

If you're a sushi lover, like me you have to give this place a try! Not only is the location awesome- (Optimist Hall) but they have such a delicious and unique spin on traditional sushi. I opted for one of their sushi burritos because why not! It was fresh and delicious, just the way I like my sushi to be! My next visit will definitely include making my own personalized sushi bowl! Parking can be a bit tricky especially on the weekends, but the light rail is a great option and only a few steps away!

Sushi Burrito - No mixed greens, seaweed salad, edamame, cucumber, carrots, tofu
    Kathleen A.

Thankfully I work 4 minutes away from here. I've been by 5 times. I have been getting the "sushi burrito" more often, though when they first opened I used to get the small poke bowl (which is fine just too much rice for my specific taste) I've walked in and placed my order around lunch time (~20/25 minutes from when I step in line to the time I received my food) or if I'm in a rush I'll place an online order & get a text when it's ready! I appreciate how this concept takes a Japanese concepts and makes it approachable to someone new to the cuisine. I enjoy the relative consistency. Only minor inconsistency is the amount of sauce that is incorporated in to the burrito itself, that could easily be fixed with asking for extra sauce, or using the low sodium soy sauce provided. Items taste very fresh and crisp. Typically I alter between panko chicken or fried tofu for my protein choice. And I consistently ask for no "mixed greens" it's hard to keep the burrito intact with pulling the greens out of the burrito and compromising the integrity. I keep coming back because it's a filling lunch that does not have me feeling heavy. Service is nice, though I'm typically trying to get "in and out" I love how they call the names loud and clear. Or if it's a online order you get a text message (would be nice to add the options of the shiitake mushrooms online ordering )

The restaurant is stylish, modern, and surprisingly chic , with a great location that makes it easy to add to an evening out. As first-time guests, we especially appreciated our server, who patiently walked us through the process and made sure there were no surprises. The explanation about the charge for uneaten all-you-can-eat sushi that guests want to take home was particularly helpful. Knowing the rules upfront makes all the difference and sets the right expectations from the start. The food was excellent. We worked our way through several rolls , sampled dumplings , and didn't find a miss among them. My Lycheetini was delicious, and after tasting a couple of sakes , I ended up buying a bottle to take home. Zero regrets there. Parking requires a little planning, with a paid lot nearby unless you're fortunate enough to snag a street spot right in front. Overall, I'd happily return and enjoy the entire experience all over again.

So his choice was here. Google directions suck they took us around the back to the parking garage for the 2nd level and since we have never been here before it took us a few minutes to figure out how to get down to the first level. When we entered there was a waiter taking an order and no one else on the floor so we had a little bit to get seated even though there were only two other parties in the restaurant. We were able to sit wherever we wanted so I sat with a view of the screen with the replay of the Brazil FIFA game on. My husband wanted the unagi don but didn't order because the price seemed high. The table next to us all ordered bowls and the serving size was huge so my husband regretted it. We order takoyaki, spicy wings, and 3 rolls Godzilla, Hadouken, and Master Roshi. The wings had amazing flavor but were not spicy. Takoyaki was flavorful and the perfect temperature. I get a lot of takoyaki that is entirely too hot and have to crack them open to cool before eating them. My husband did not enjoy the Godzilla roll he said the topping was too much and didn't add to the flavor. But enjoyed the other two. I enjoyed all three rolls the flavor was fresh and very little need for soy sauce fine without it. If we are ever in Charlotte with time to eat I would stop here again.

The cucumber salad was nicely, chilled on refreshing the takoyaki delicious the temper was good, had a cocktail it was fine, except very small considering what it cost. . The servers were efficient, friendly, and conscientious. The only thing was the restroom. There were a couple of signs in there that I did not consider appropriate for restaurant of the caliber in any case bye . We'll have to try again another time to see if that makes the reaction not bad but not great either.

Great location in south end near the light rail. We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated promptly. The restaurant is gorgeous! I was in amazement walking to my seat. The host was about to sit us at a table, but we requested a booth and were accommodated. Our server was very nice and thoroughly explained the menu. We started off with the empanadas and I ordered my first virgin "pinny yolada" :). The empanadas were mind blowing! They were nice and hot, flavorful, and absolutely a delight! We were so impressed, we decided to order the double fried wings afterwards. The wings were good and had an interested flavor with the tamarind. After the wonderful appetizers, it was time for the entrees. I ordered the short rib yuca gnocchi and my friend the arroz con pollo. On paper the gnocchi sounded sublime, but in actuality it was lacking a lot. The entire dish lacked so much flavor, even with hot sauce, additional salt, and lime it tasted bland. I was very disappointed. The empanadas and service were a saving grace, I ordered two orders of empanadas to go for my family. However they were so expensive. I paid $14 for 3. Even though I loved the empanadas, I probably would not be back.

We arrived at 5:17 p.m., were greeted immediately, and seated right away. When I opened my menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Happy Birthday" printed across the top. Another thoughtful detail that made the evening feel special. Since we arrived early, the atmosphere was quiet, intimate, and honestly very romantic. We could actually hear each other talk without raising our voices. The lighting was perfectly dim--creating a cozy ambiance without making it difficult to see the menu. The service was equally enjoyable. Our waiter and waitress were attentive, friendly, and never overbearing, allowing us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. As for the food, it was every bit as good as I remembered. The quality hasn't changed at all--fresh, beautifully prepared sushi with consistently excellent flavors. We'd never tried Omakase before, but we've had other curated dining experiences. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. Our waitress was pleasant, she started on beverages, and explained that the Omakase would be a two‑hour experience...totally fine. Within the first 20 minutes, our first dish arrived and it was excellent...But then...nothing. We waited, and waited, and waited. An entire hour passed before the next dish appeared. I pulled the waitress aside to check on the delay, she explained they had a sudden influx of customers but she'd ask the kitchen to move a little quicker. The food did start coming out after that, and the managers came over to address the delay, which I appreciated, but the damage was done. I wanted a memorable birthday experience for my daughter, and unfortunately it ended up being a bit of a disappointment considering the time and cost. The food itself was delicious, but poor pacing and lack of attention to the customer overshadowed the entire experience. I didn't ask for compensation but the managers took it upon themselves to comp my wine flight. I hope this was a one off experience but I can't say that I'll return to this restaurant.

No restaurant serving raw fish should ever have issues like that. The environment felt dirty, uncomfortable, and poorly managed. I genuinely do not understand the hype around this place. Between the awful attitude from the owner and the unsanitary conditions, I would never recommend anyone eat here.
