Sushi Roll Combo Special 2 (pick 5roll)
    Clara A.

Had ZumoThai takeout, we got the 5 roll special. My favorites were the Shrimp Tempura, and Salmon Avocado. The Tuna Avocado was also pretty good, and the Spicy tuna was on the spicier end for me. The fish in the sushi felt good and tasted fresh, but the avocado wasn't the best. Some of the pieces of avocado were a bit hard, and some had a bit of an off taste and a few dark spots, not terrible but definitely could have been fresher. We also had the Katsu Don which was very good! Had a good subtle sweetness and a great katsu breading. Pretty good overall, would return.

Tofu ramen soup - steaming hot and warmed my soul!

The day I stopped into this place was when the temperature in DC dropped from 60 down to 40 and it was windy and cold and it was really nice to find a cozy place to get out of the cold to warm up a bit. I had some late meetings and so lunch didn't happen for me until close to 3pm, which is when I came here. I ducked in here around 3pm, which was probably after the lunch rush and the place was pretty empty except for 2 other people dining. I needed to charge up my phone and the staff here were super nice and put me at a 4 top that had an outlet available, sweet! And since it was quite cold for me (Im from Phoenix), I opted for a miso ramen noodle soup with tofu. Noodle soup was decent, not as good as an authentic Japanese place, but since it was piping hot, it soothed my soul and the boiled egg was very good too! I slurped happily, got my phone charged, staff was very nice and helpful and I was tucked into a cozy, warm place, so I was a super happy and content when I left. Ramen plus tax and tip came to $20, pretty good deal. I'd come back here again to give other dishes a try too.

Came for lunch with colleagues and everyone enjoyed their choices. I had the drunken noodles and it was delicious with a good amount of protein. I also had the tuna and avocado maki and it was made very well and the tuna was tasty. This place is great for lunch. Not great for large groups as it's god a small seating area.

Nice people. Cute little restaurant. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. They had a lot of great things on the menu. There were 5 of us dinning and we were all able to find something we liked. I had the appetizer tempura which came with shrimp and mixed vegetables. I also ordered the Pad Thai. Both were very tasty and portions were large enough for everyone to share. Colleagues ordered a variety of rolls, soups, and other dishes. Everything was excellent.

This is a very small restaurant and if you are not paying attention, you will miss it. It is right before Walgreens and next to a Chinese store. The employees are very nice and greet you promptly. This place serves Thai, Japanese, and a mix of all kinds of Asian fusion. Even though the name Thai is in the name, this is not a traditional Thai restaurant. If you want authentic Thai, this is not the place, more Thai fusion. Food: Got the Pad Ka Prow with pork. The pork was cooked well and a generous amount of pork. I am used to a larger amount of veggies. For sure this has more protein than veggies. The rice was okay, not very fresh. The sauce was very sweet compared to other places and ran a bit too salty. This was the closest Thai restaurant to my hotel and I was having a Thai craving.

Really convenient place near the Chinatown stop. I thought the Japanese/Thai concept was not going to work, but this restaurant does. Ended up getting the pad Thai and it was one of the better ones in the area. Would go back. Also friendly service and very chill vibes

    Special sushi roll. Excellent 10/10.

Really close to my hotel and a very cool "hole in the wall" kind of spot right behind Walgreens. I will go back for one main reason, the service. This is very clearly local and family owned and operated and they were so kind, so fast, and very helpful. The food is good! I had a sushi roll (spicy something special) and it was excellent. I also had drunken noodles which personally, I didn't think were spicy at all. Had a rich garlic brown sauce flavor and chili with what I think were handmade noodles. Very well prepared. I was a little surprised there wasn't a wait and I was the only one there. For the quality and service they should be MUCH busier. I'd definitely come back to try their pad Thai and more sushi. Prices were good for dc and they had plenty of options. Great experience.

I would come back for the curry - it was solid! Tried out a curry that the waitress recommended to me (forgot the name, had a unique name) and it hit the spot! Service was quick, nothing to complain.

Zumo Thai is conveniently located in the Chinatown district of DC. We were out enjoying the holiday market and festivities that downtown had to offer. All of a sudden we were craving some quality Thai food. Neither of us had been to Zumo Thai before but bring it was cold and getting late we were eager to have some food that would warm us up. If you blink you will this place, it is a small unassuming restaurant with an entrance right next to another Asian restaurant. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines but being vegetarian it's been a hit or miss for me since many Thai places use fish/oyster sauce. I wasn't pleasantly surprised to see the menu had a plethora of vegetarian dishes. Nearly all the entrees had a vegetarian option. And I'm not talking about just tofu, although I love a good tofu but eggplant and other options. The food was so good I only managed to snag pics of 2 of the menu items we ordered. Definitely try the Agedashi Tofu appetizer, this is unique and is dunked in a sauce umami/soy style sauce with a dusting of sea weed flakes. The pineapple fried rice with tofu and green curry is what we ordered for our entrees. The plain rice with the green curry was the most perfect sticky rice I've ever had. Green curry was flavorful, yet light and filling. There was something about it; most places green curry feels heavy. This was the perfect touch. Pineapple fried rice was tasty and likely the best one I've had in the DMV! You can taste that they use quality fresh ingredient and the meals are prepared made to order. Don't miss out on this gem if you are looking for Thai in the DMV.

The food was delicious! My server recommended the red curry and it was fantastic. I also got the pork gyoza. Perfect lunch!

I was impressed and by the experience and would definitely come back for a Japanese meal that did not focus solely on ramen or sushi. The ambiance is well done, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and able to answer any of our questions. To share, we got the spicy salmon roll, Karaage appetizer, and eggplant cheese appetizer. The spicy tuna roll was the most lackluster of the dishes, but the fish was fresh and the portion was decent for $12. The karaage appetizer was excellent. The chicken was moist and the coating was crunchy and super hot. The eggplant cheese was a surprise highlight of the meal. Pieces of eggplant in a melted cheese bowl made of eggplant was a simple combination. That was a very pleasant mix of textures. The pork Katsu was a highlight of the meal. Unfortunately forgot to take a picture, but the coding was super crispy and the portion size was pretty solid. The Unagidon or grilled eel bowl was also very well made and tasted great with the pickled ginger and seasoning on the side. The set came with miso soup which was very nice as well. My companions also got drinks which they said were well priced and good quality. Our overall meal cost somewhere in the range of $160 before tip which was reasonable given all of the items that we got. I look forward to my next visit!

The layout is interesting -- there's an upstairs when you walk in, but the sushi bar and a good bit of seating are downstairs. The menu is pretty straightforward with a mix of hand rolls, appetizers, specialty rolls, nigiri/sashimi, and traditional rolls. They also have a few solid combo deals, though I usually prefer trying a variety of items instead. Service was quick, which is always appreciated at a sushi spot. We ordered a few specialty rolls, two traditional rolls, and a couple orders of sashimi, all served together on one platter. The rolls were a great size -- filling without being overly large. The sashimi was fresh, and the traditional rolls really balanced out the meal nicely. The flounder and tuna sashimi were both excellent, and the California roll made with real crab was simple, fresh, and really satisfying. The total came out somewhere in the $70 range, so after tip and splitting it between two people, it was about $40 each to try multiple rolls and sashimi. Definitely fair pricing for the quality and amount of food. This spot had been on my list for a while, so I'm glad I finally made it over. I'd recommend checking out the menu beforehand so you can go in with a game plan and try the items that stand out most to you.

It wasn't hard to get a reservation, but the place was full the whole time I was there. We sat on the second floor. Dinner included the Tuna Nuta ($15), Shimesaba (mackerel, $19.5, 8 pieces), Beef Tongue ($19.5, 4 pieces), three small vegetables (we picked Kimchi Cucumbers, Hijiki Seaweed, and Nasu Eggplant, $19) and a fried Sea Bream Collar (suggested by the server, $30 maybe?). Also draft Sapporo ($8). I liked the Tuna Nuta the best. I had never had this before, and I liked the flavor of the dressing. The Shimesaba was fine; it tasted like mackerel, as you would expect. The Beef Tongue was a huge disappointment -- the slices were uneven and haphazard, the various marbling/fat/textures looked unappealing, and it was served lukewarm. There was no effort or care put into this dish. The Sea Bream Collar was fine; the fry was nice, it was boney (as expected), but I did not like it as much as the salmon collar at St. Anselm. Vegetables were pretty good; the cucumbers didn't taste much like kimchi (a positive, in my book), I liked the flavors and textures of the seaweed (a new preparation for me), and I liked the eggplant flavor even if the texture was a bit limp. Service was pretty weak. The server offered halfhearted suggestions. They did not do basic things like clear the chopstick wrapper or keep the water carafe filled. We struggled to order a second beer. Ambiance was simple, but I liked it well enough. Overall, do not recommend.
