Figuring they'd not charge us or charge us for the dish we ordered as at this point we were all done eating. Manager, who wasn't around at the time, also insisted we'd ordered it wrong. The Penang Curry is made from coconut oil with a mild peanut flavor, it's thin and not a thick sauce. The curry had a spicy kick (the waitress voluntarily put an extra set of napkins on my table as I used up the initial napkins!), the heat wasn't too overpowering. The fried tofu was tasty and while I appreciate the diversity of veggies with Chinese mushroom, cabbage, green beans, sliced carrots, and a heap of red peppers - I'll just stick with the tofu. The sticky white rice was perfect for absorbing all that spicy curry! The only pet peeve I had was that I served the curry in a lop-sided bowl (it was the bowl design) and some of the curry was wasted as it spilled out as I was eating it. The curry would be better served in a flat bowl plate or a bowl deep enough to hold curry + rice. The Green Sushi Roll was loaded with veggies - sweet potato, avocado, cucumber, and spinach topped with eel sauce that I requested. It was fun to try, but a bit bland. Not my favorite. I ate here with friends after a movie. The pad thai was unusually sweet. It evoked the taste of sweet and sour sauce, which I've never experienced at another Thai restaurant. I would have preferred to order a different Thai dish, but when I asked about a substitution in the vegetable used for that dish, I was told that the change could not be made. We were warmly greeted by staff upon entering. Our waiter was kind, attentive, and quick throughout service, despite the increase of customers that flooded the place as the night progressed. Our order consisted of - Three Roll Combo Special: Shrimp Tempura Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, and Sweet Potato Avocado Roll - Pad Thai The rolls were fresh, crafted well, and extremely filling. All three were tasty and I would recommend any of them if you're stuck on deciding which to try. The Three Roll Combo Special also came with Miso Soup and a salad. Well worth the price! The roe and the seaweed salad that comes with it are plentiful, though the avocado in the chirashi has some black spots (probably because it's old and over-riped avocado). Service is quick and friendly. It's small, so not great for groups but good if you've got 2-5 or 6 people. They offer both Thai dishes and some Japanese. What a pleasant treat! We were in Chinatown late-ish at night after an event, hadn't seen this place before, and decided to take a chance based on Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. Attentive service, kitschy-casual atmosphere, a very ample something-for-everyone menu, and plenty of meaningful vegan and vegetarian options. My fiance got sushi. The sushi menu was diverse, and priced comparably to what is now normal in the DC area. When it came out it was high-quality and well-portioned. So it's solid if you're in the area for sushi. But what really blew me away was my massaman curry, which I ordered with tofu. I have had massaman curry in a lot of places and this is the best I can remember having in a very long time. When you order curry at a lot of Thai places in the DC area give you a small portion of rice and a bowl of liquid with a few pieces of tofu floating in it, which has led me to avoid eating Thai in this area in general, but here it was as it should be - stew-like with a heaping portion of piping hot rice, big, oversized triangles of flavorful tofu, plenty of veggies. And the flavor was excellent, too - very balanced. I couldn't finish, and that is extremely unusual for me with this kind of dish. We're not in Chinatown a lot these days but I would actually go out of my way to come here, which is rare. Highly recommend, especially for vegetarians. read more
