This place was awful omg... I was speechless the whole time. I walked in and the hostess said "the wait is 45 minutes unless you order sushi" and I was like "okay that's what I want?" So she sat me down and there was another group there that got up and left without getting their food cause it took so long. I ordered sashimi and nigiri and the salmon and tuna was disgusting. She didn't even ask me how I liked it she just handed me the bill and walked away. So disappointed and it had a funky floral/mothball smell to the restaurant. Go literally anywhere else.

My go-to sushi place in the valley! Love their fresh sushi. You can see the chef making the sushi at his station. They're the only one in Alaska (that I've checked) to have Inari, which is my favorite. I feel it's a safe bet if you're first trying sushi, as it's just sushi rice in tofu skin. They have no problem adjusting the sushi rolls (my husband doesn't like avocado, but the rolls he likes, all have avocado). Service is great, they're always nice, even if they correct the way you say an item, I personally have no problem with that.

I haven't found many good sushi spots in Alaska compared to Hawaii but zushi has become one of my favorites. Especially living in the valley, it's hard to find a good spot. Prices are decent and the service is great. I like the homemade soy sauce and also the soup and salad before your sushi. Very yummy.

This place never disappoints. We are somewhat of a routine visitor to this establishment and for good reason. We love their food! Everything is always great so the most challenging part is deciding what to get. Had crab rangoons, kolbi short ribs, spicy super crunch roll, and a tomo roll. YUMMY!

I wasn't really feeling in a sushi mood yesterday, when we were down in Wasilla doing errands yesterday. We passed by, and hub said how about Zushi, and i was a bit hangry by then and said no. I just wanted food rammed down my beak instantly, like a squawking baby bird. I get that way at times, if i go past a regular meal time by too many minutes i would literally go to Golden Corral and just start cramming anything down. Not a good thing at all. He says check their Yelp reviews. You can't argue with 4 and a half stars. I didn't even bother checking the menu - with Asian fusion, there's always something appetizing to tempt you. Upon entering the space, i was pleasantly surprised with the dining area. The bar area was pretty, dining tables by the window - always good for people watching. Not too much kitsch going on. I like that. We were given lovely aluminum or maybe stainless steel water glasses, with citrus water - best of all, no ice. An extensive menu, i chose number D2, and our server informed me that I'd save $2 by ordering the exact same thing off the specials menu. That right there gets an added star from me. She didnt have to do that, and i thought it was very nice of her. Instead of $22 it would be $20, which for a four piece meal (5 if you include rice) and 7 if you also count the miso soup and salad is not at all bad value for money, considering the quality. So the Special i ordered was a 4 item bento, with rice, which also came with miso soup and salad. I love miso soup, and this was very nice, not too salty. The salad had a delicious dressing on that tasted home made, like a citrusy carroty gingery dressing that was really nice and refreshing. The Bento plate, i chose California roll, Tempura Shrimp, Gyoza, and Crunch Roll. Two separate dips, one with the gyoza, and one with the tempura shrimp. It was presented most beautifully, and the bento plate, i love those things. The chopsticks also, not your usual run of the mill disposable wooden cheap ones, with squared tips, these were of smoother wood, and had the tapered, more pointed Japanese-style ends on them. Thats my belief anyway. I may be right, i may be wrong, but they were fancier than average. The California roll was very fresh and delicious, what's not to love in California roll? The Tempura shrimp were honestly some of the best I've ever had anywhere. The tempura was perfectly crunchy with moist juicy, perfectly cooked shrimp. Stunning. Gyoza yum, just the perfect comfort food, and well filled too. Crunch Roll is one of my fave sushi, that sauce on the top is to die for. So despite me not being in the mood for sushi, i certainly made short work of my bento. In left only a spoonful of the rice lol. My hub got the Udon with California Roll. We both love Udon, and this was really good. I tasted it, and i love the complex savory layered flavour of a good Udon Broth, and this was delicious, tasted like it had taken some good long prep time to get this much flavour into it. I do recommend Zushi most emphatically. I know that we'll be going back so i can explore more items on the menu. Arigato for a great lunch experience.

Update - went back to try them for lunch last week. The previous lunch menu I saw last time wasn't the same. :( so we looked at the regular menu - and they've raised their prices by at least $2+ per roll! What I thought was fairly reasonable now seems expensive. All of the prices on the menu have little pieces of paper glued down with new prices. on them. We still had a nice but expensive lunch. $30 for lunch for 2 is not something I would do again. It wasn't amazing enough to warrant the price. Service was good but it was still pretty empty in there. read more

Every time I go into Zushi I know I will have the best sushi around. The food is always top notch, great music playing at the right level of volume just all in all a great atmosphere for a date, family outing or just grabbing dinner with friends. I've been to several sushi places here in the state and they are the only one to use black rice which makes the experience that more Incredible! I suggest this place to everyone including you! Also if you look around the social networks they have specials for this place at great prices. read more

I will start by saying that I solidly recommend Zushi to anyone who enjoys this type of cuisine. The place is clean and well kept, the staff is very nice and accommodating, and the prices are fair. I have come to conclusion that this is overall my favorite restaurant in Mat-Su Valley since I have been there quite a bit and have never had a bad experience. read more

I ordered shu mai to start, and the waitress rudely corrected my pronunciation. They were still frozen in the middle :/. I'd much rather just buy from the store and heat up at home instead of paying for it. The katsu don was extremely dry and lacked the dashi brothiness that I typically love about the dish. Sushi was forgettable. Too bad that service and food is lacking. read more

Not a fan of their bento boxes, and some of the stuff is pretty hit or miss, however their Kenai roll was fantastic. Some of the servers are more helpful than others... but overall not terrible. read more

This is our new sushi joint. We came from south Alaska and the sushi restaurant we frequented was amazing. Very big shoes to fill. Zushi has almost filled this shoes. The nigiri is amazing and their Meg rolls are incredible. Very high quality fish! This place needs to be tried if you have a taste for fresh raw fish!! Yummm read more

Came on Monday night for a 2nd which is today with my kids and husband and as im finishing up i see the servers on his phone in the front. Please pay attention to your customers! I get better service at basil ginger! This store needs to be more strict with their employees, food was great nonetheless! Keep it up with the sushi! Second time eating here. I tried their Tangerine Ginger tea and loved it. Unique and fruity. I also tried their spicy pork and rice meal. It was amazing and the spice came after you tasted the sweet sauce. They are willing to accommodate you for any desired spice level when you order spicy food. I also ordered the Mount Fugi Sushi roll. That roll was amazing. It was well presented and stacked nicely. When I bit into It, I got a crunch at first, and was then greeted by the sweet sauces and followed by a spicy kick that is well complimented by a mix of the wasabi and spy mixture. The kick just finishes off the taste bud journey perfectly. Very enjoyable roll. I appreciate the new ideas and the personal touch of this small business. Worth the price all the way. Glad they care to take suggestions as well. Wish them much luck and will see them again soon. read more

For what it is, a strip mall sushi joint in Wasilla, Alaska, this place is good. I enjoyed the unagi sashimi as an appetizer, and liked my mango tuna avocado roll as well. Interior is a nice vibe and friendly service. Wish they had real Kani tho! read more

really small seating area but what I normally get here is a steak and fry roll it's $22 but it's so worth it in my opinion it's really good but it's really big rolls but it's great recommend it's basically a California roll with steak wrapped in fried potato stuff read more

Though my experience was really 3-star, I am giving it 4 stars because there is a serious mountain of potential hiding in this restaurant. It could be 5 star easily. The Good: Clean, meticulous and creatively inspired artistic sushi. Without a doubt, the chef has the best technical and presentation skills in the Palmer area. The decor is nice, a little zany for the sake of zany but the style is clean. The fish was at the highest level of freshness, and beautifully cut. The use of black/purple rice is enjoyable for sure. Unbleached whole-grain rice has a much more complicated earthy flavor that contrasts well with the fresh ocean flavor of fish. The not as good: While obviously extremely skilled, the chef was very quiet and at times hesitant to interact with me. I am the only person in here, sitting at the bar. You gotta talk to me some time. The "lunch" menu was very dumbed down, and while the practice of filling out sushi order sheets is a little non-traditional it does cut down on mis-communication by a large margin. I got about 60% of what I actually ordered. Everything I had was delicious, but I was often eating something that I did not recall ordering. Just difficulties understanding one another that could have been fixed with an order sheet, or a call-back from the chef. Things I would change: The real star of this place is the care and attention that goes into every dish the chef makes. Little touches like garnishes, teardrop shaped maki rolls with nice arcs of sauce around them. The tragedy though is that because they use a cold-plate horizontal storage bin instead of a more traditional see-through glass refrigerator, you can't see any of the work the chef does. The whole reason I sit at the bar is to watch the food take shape. I live to watch blocks of fish get turned into artistic presentations of flavor. Sadly all I could see was the boring stainless steel lid of the cold-bar. Also the rice. I have only been to 2 other sushi bars that used non-traditional rice and both of them advertised it as a big selling point. This is going under advertised here. The flavor of whole grain rice is really different from traditional white rice and it changes the way that the sushi tastes in a marvelous way. I was delighted to see the purple whole grain rice in use, but had no idea it even existed. (Especially since my salmon nigiri morphed into a salmon sashimi) So to summarize, there is a highly skilled chef with fantastically fresh ingredients and a real talent for flavor combinations. You might not be able to see him work his magic, but you can enjoy his creations. Make sure you put your order through the manager so that it can be properly translated into what arrives on your plate. You will pay more than other sushi places around town, but the quality is unquestionable here. read more

I'm giving a "relativity" 5 stars, based on location. Sushi is limited in #matsu or "the Valley." For Wasilla, this is by far as good as it gets. We've tried every other sushi place in the area, several times each. Tokyo is good, Sakura is bad, Pataya is in between the two. Zushi is good. The decor is nice, upscale, retro and cool. Clean and stylish. Service was very prompt, friendly, genuine. Everything came out as fast as you could expect. I asked about their flavor saki and got a three shot sampler. I liked none, because they were all too sweet, and so she brought me a regular hot saki. When the bill came, the three samples were not on there- just a free taste, a loss for them, but good customer service. My wife- not a raw foods person- had the crunch roll and loved it. I had the spicy tuna roll: a different shape, a bit small, but it was very good. Distinct flavors and fresh. The miso soup came with each roll and was good. Small touches, like the saki samples, fortune cookies dipped in chocolate, the intentionally careful and stylish presentation, really make a difference. Expensive? Sure. Relative to sushi places in the area and Anchorage? No difference, really. If you want good sushi in the Valley, this is really the only choice. read more

Zushi is a great little spot. It's very refreshing for Wasilla. I love how they pay attention to the little details; like serving water infused with orange slices, warm edamame with coarse salt, they even dip their fortune cookies in chocolate for a nice finish. The miso soup is definitely the best I've ever had. It's actually full of flavor, not the usual out-of-the-packet miso... but the rolls are the best part about this restaurant. I ordered the mazzo roll, and my boyfriend ordered the twister roll. Very creative, fast, and no doubt delicious! The staff was friendly, and the service was fast. I will be recommending Zushi to my friends, and clients. It is a little spendy, but worth it for a treat. read more

Hands down best sushi I've ever had. They use black rice which is a bit sweet tasting and very rare for a sushi restaurant. They always love to give appetizers on the house. It was very quiet when we went in and our service was excellent. We had a little trouble finding the place because it was called Khan's and Zushi but if you get lost its right next to the gas station in the plaza. read more

We stopped by on Sunday and ordered the Bulgogi tacos and a spicy roll. It was a huge amount of food and the dressing on the salad was delicious. I also loved that the miso soup wasn't as salty as it is in some places, same with the soy sauce. The place was clean, had excellent service, and a good selection of beers for its size. Both the sushi and tacos were very tasty. read more

These guys are just terrific! Great food and excellent, accommodating service. They have TVs to distract the kids and you get to watch them make your sushi. It's a clean place and well maintained. It's always a pleasure to go in and snuggle up to some good food! read more

This place is great! The sushi was fresh, lots of flavor, not too much rice, and it came in a timely manner. The service was also good. Easy 5 stars, but I am taking 1 star away because the owner was standing about 6 feet away from our table and was giving the staff a lecture on good customers service. Though it is important, I don't want to hear someone chew-out her staff while I'm enjoying my dinner, swearing included. Also, the reggae music just doesn't fit the mojo of the restaurant. All in all, a good meal. read more

Very expensive.. but good sushi is. I did not order a lot of the more flavorful things on the menu however the sashimi and rolls I did order were absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. I also must say it was awesome how well packaged it was and I was able to do a to-go order. The owner whom took my order was great I asked if it was possible to substitute for some of the fish options and he said he would work with me on what I wanted. So far in wasilla this is the best sushi place. read more

It comes with a cup of jasmine white rice. I asked if it was spicy and the waiter nodded. It is mildly spicy for most Americans taste. I usually order extra spicy or a dish of Thai chili sauce to spice mine up. I didn't today so taste and decide if you want it spicer. It's the first little box you're probably gonna open and it's gonna make you mad. They're $10 for two eggrolls the size of your finger. They were unremarkable and should've been two dollars. The chicken was tender, and I was not expecting that, and the veggies were perfect. It was so freaking good. I was also ready for the sesame chicken to be meh. Or at least hurt my mouth. It was soft, perfect battered covering perfect amount of sauce. Perfect amount of sesame seeds. White rice doesn't always grab me and there were two big scoops in the container and it's the best rice I think I've ever had and it went really well with the chicken. And the last item was a roll that had tempura shrimp, crab, avocado, eel, and then your standard spicy mayo and EL sauce. It was outstanding. The only thing I didn't like was the prices. I understand they're inflated for Doordash. I also understand that Doordash provides consistent and constant business to these places and I still don't like the prices. They are comparable to every other place in town though so understand that if you're gonna blow some money on DoorDash and sushi at least get the good stuff at Jimmy's.

I've never seen Panang curry served with literally nothing but the broth and meat. I shouldn't be surprised tho as this is Alaska, and the Valley at that, and nobody here gives a flying F about fresh veggies. Sad state of affairs. I won't go back.

I love the history of the old building and the friendliness of the staff (which is a huge score for me, I can tolerate bad food if the customer service was friendly). The food speaks for itself. Bread baked fresh daily and once they are out they are done selling. The portion sizes are bigger than I remember but tasty as ever. I highly recommend Krazy Moose!

This small, clean restaurant has a warm atmosphere and quick, attentive staff. What really sets it apart is their house made soy sauce. It's available at your table or to take home, and it's noticeably less salty than standard soy sauce. The flavor is smooth and slightly nutty, and it elevated everything I tried. I ordered the Okinawa soba and the Alaska Morning Roll, along with a Diet Coke. The soba came in a rich, savory broth with tender pork and a soft fried egg topped with green onions. The flavors were deep and comforting. It was a generous portion, and I ended up taking most of it home. The Alaska Morning Roll was excellent. It had imitation crab, avocado, rice, nori, fresh lemon salmon, and a creamy white sauce I didn't recognize but really enjoyed. The fish tasted fresh, and there was no fishy smell in the restaurant at all. I finished the entire roll it was satisfying enough to stand on its own as a full entrée. The menu at ZUSHI is varied, with options like curries, customizable bento boxes, and other Japanese comfort dishes. I'd love to come back and try something new next time. The dining space is small, with around six four-top tables and four seats at the sushi bar. If you're planning to come with a large group, it's worth calling ahead or ordering takeout. Entrées come with complimentary miso soup and a salad. I chose the sesame dressing, which was delicious. There were two other dressings available, but I didn't get a chance to try them. For forty-one dollars, I got a satisfying meal that felt worth the price. The food was fresh, flavorful, and served with care. If you visit, definitely try the house soy sauce. Great food and the owner is awesome. However, the wait staff is extremely slow and rude. We love this place but had an awful experience today with the waiter. When we questioned her about making a substitution with a sushi roll she got extremely flustered and told at first it wasn't possible and then told us she would ask the chef. We then waited about 35 minutes at which time I went to the front to inquire about our food. We had not even been served the miso soup or salad which typically comes out right away. At no time did our waiter check on us during this period. When I inquired about our food the owner's wife informed us that they were short staffed and apologized. I then informed her that her waiter could have informed us this and that I felt the waiter was extremely rude. The waiter overheard our conversation and called me a racist and then proceeded to get the entire restaurant involved by going to each table asking them if they thought she was rude. We have had this waiter several times and each experience has gotten a little worse. Not sure we'll be back...unless they get a wait staff that is customer friendly. read more

As stated by other reviewers, the food here is terrible. We did a take out order and waited over an hour to pick up our food. Once we got it home, the chicken katsu was burned to a crisp, and the chicken was rubbery/inedible. The vegetable fried rice tasted like charcoal, and the chicken teriyaki was disgusting. We spent $115 on this meal only to throw 90% of it in the trash. The only edible items from our order were the crab rangoon and the California roll. Save your money and look elsewhere if you are craving Asian food. read more

Zushi Sushi is definitely going to be family favorite. The Sushi is absolutely delicious, and all the food comes with a free salad and a free soup.
