Visited 1/4 Lb Big Burger in Martinez recently for lunch. It's open 24 hours and has a full menu, mostly with breakfast items, burgers and sandwiches. It's a small, old-fashioned diner complete with the menu boards that have the plug-in letters (rare to see those anymore!). My son and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger and fries while my wife had a breakfast combination of pancakes, bacon and eggs. We all had shakes. OK, the good news first. We were impressed with the Bacon Cheeseburgers: good, flavorful meat and quality bacon. The burgers alone make this worth the stop. My wife was also pleased with her pancakes and bacon. Unfortunate, it's not all good news. The rest of the meal was not quite up to par. The fries were disappointing, fairly bland and lacking salt. My wife's eggs tasted very odd and she couldn't finish them--she speculated that maybe they had cooked them in a pan that had recently fried something else, because they just didn't taste like normal eggs. As a shake lover this can make or break it for me -- and these shakes were nothing special. The chocolate shake was substandard, not tasting all that sweet. I had the boysenberry shake, and it tasted like a weak strawberry shake. The mango shake was the best, and ironically this one is not listed on the menu. All the shakes are made from syrup, not fresh ingredients; not necessarily a problem for us, but might be for some people. Finally, it would have been better if the shakes had been blended more--they were so thick at the start it was tough to use a straw. They come in in a Styrofoam container with no bonus tin on the side. However, in all fairness, the shakes are only $3.25. In fact, the prices are a final positive. Lunch for three, with shakes, came to $30. That's good value these days, especially considering the quality of the burgers. And service was fast and friendly. Good burgers at a reasonable price--no doubt that's what the customers come for. Just don't set your expectations too high. read more

This place has great Philly cheese steaks and cheeseburgers oh yeah and the French fries are very very good. You can dine in but sometimes it gets to packed but if so just order to go you don't wanna miss out. read more

Awesome greasy spoon after a couple of beverages with friends. I love that this place is 24/7 and really does a solid job on the diner favorites. I had the bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries after a night in Martinez with Friends. This place is a no brainer! read more

I've only gone once because I work in the area but the burgers were very good. I like that they had a nice selection and they offer more than just burgers. I definitely plan on going again. I didn't dine in because I was in the clock but they were on point with the pick up time and my food was nice and hot. I recommend trying them out if you're in the mood for a good burger and you're in the Martinez area. read more

Have driven by several times and decided it was time to try. Hamburger, French fries, and drink $9.85 great deal. The food was excellent will go back again. Apparently, the place is over 60 years old! Only thing I would change is free pickles on the burger not 2.00 dollars for pickles. read more

OPEN 24 HOURS! Good Diner Food. Breakfast all day. Nothing Fancy, but good late night diner food. They make it how you want it. Grilled Cheese with lettuce, tomato and grilled mushrooms (yum!) and Onion Rings are beer battered :) You can call in ahead of time, fast service even if you decide to walk in off the street at some ungodly hour. read more

I love the BLT and onion rings here. They actually make my bacon crunchy when I ask for it, unlike anywhere else. The onion rings & dipping sauce are amazing. Quality has not changed in the 12 years I have been going there. read more

Really use to like this place but seems they don't really care anymore. I came in 23 minutes before closing (9:07pm) to order some food and was told they are only serving burgers and closing early in 4 minutes. Sorry I know it's kinda last minute but till wtf. I guess there are doing ok during covid that they can turn away business. Best of luck read more

I used to come here a lot and it's been great. I was in town recently and thought I would have breakfast. They were busy and directed me as where to sit. I sat down and they kept telling me they would be right with me, ok. 5 min after another group walks in and sits behind me. 10 minutes waiting they took the order of the people who came after me. I asked why. Without remorse waiter asked "what I wanted to order" Like I was bothering him. "I said never mind ". I walked out. Drove 3 min up the road. For another breakfast spot. Ambiance was nice and quiet even though I started a convo with another tradesman in the place. Service was quick, I got to eat the super hot and fresh fries while I was waiting for the burger. Bacon burger was delicious, and made the old school way, which I am a big fan of. Do yourself a favor and try this place!! read more

This place is awesome, nothing to complain about at all. One of the only, if not the only restaurant open 24 hours in all of Martinez. Being able to count on them at all hours of the dead night is extremely convenient. An American menu with lots of sandwiches and burgers, lots of sides that will almost certainly have something for anyone and everyone. When I came here years ago I was surprised by the low prices and excellent flavors, however, I came to realize the truth and that is it's an awesome kitchen run by a great crew built on years of experience and most importantly happy customers. I'm telling you to stop here at 4:00am is the best option within 25 miles of their address, and about the same price as some processed, fast food drive through but if you come here you can get almost the same deal with a lot fresher ingredients, and way more choices. Here's an idea for the perfect date. Dress up in your nicest clothes (suck it up, guys, you don't want to sleep on the couch). Drive in your BMW down Pacheco Blvd. near the refineries. And pull into a beautiful bungalow with a cozy amount of parking, with the sign "1/4 Lb Big Burger". The decor is a creative setup, as if you were to be taken to an eatery on the outskirts of Manhattan (Kansas). An exclusive place, where there are only five tables against the wall, and two in the middle. You two will be the best dressed people in the restaurant (some look like they just came from the refineries - well, okay, most of them do). For your convenience, plastic-coated menus are available at each table. And the offerings are pure Americana: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, cheese steaks, fries, chili. Unfortunately, no arugula is available. The wait staff does triple duty: making the entrees, serving the customers, and taking payment. Their outfits are fitting to the decor of the place, and they're all happy to see you. They are not likely to mind if you light a candle as you eat, especially if it's after midnight (1/4 Lb Big Burger is open 24 hours/day). Please note that they do not take American Express. On our recent visit, we both had cheeseburgers. The beef is cooked medium well, with a strong muscular taste that befits the general area. A good touch of cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. Pickles extra, I recommend you add the pickle. Fries tend to be on the hot and soft side, catsup is recommended. Free refills for your soft drink. You are not likely to leave with an empty stomach. 1/4 Lb Big Burger is a different place for your date than the usual Lark Creek Inn. The culture is authentic, the food is very good indeed, and you make your own romance. And if you just want some good grub at all hours of the day and people won't look at you because of how you're dressed, and you're laughing your rear off with this tongue-in-cheek review, then 1/4 Lb. Big Burger is PERFECT for you. read more

One star just because they were open 24/7. Unless you're seconds from death and absolutely will eat anything for sustenance, don't come here. The food was as sad as the waitress. I ordered a grilled chicken plate, everything that wasn't chicken was prepared in the microwave, and still miraculously ended up being cold-Go figure. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with fries, they served her fries 20 minutes before the burger came, we were so confused. We watched the cook take crisp French fries, put cheese on top, then stick everything in the microwave. Nas freaky ty, just NO. read more

Ok so the best thing about this spot was basically their fries. They went cheap and don't serve the right fries anymore. A cheaper alternative burger joint fry.. I can tell the difference....What's the point of a burger with no fries? Chicken strips with no fries?! Fries that don't even taste right well done.. smh So bummed about this... guess I'll just stick to their breakfast only. At least that's still good.. read more

Heading home from Napa I did a quick search on Yelp to find something quick to eat on our way home. Luckily we came across this place that is open 24/7 which was great because we were traveling late! I ordered the beef dip and onion rings with a side salad and my bf got their double bacon cheeseburger and fries. My Beef Dip was just ok not the greatest thing I've eaten, I think it could of used cheese. In my honest opinion they should just take it off the menu, it was pretty bland. My salad was good and also my onion rings were pretty tasty, I love the orange dipping sauce it came with! My bf said his burger was pretty amazing and said the bacon was like a layer of meat on its own, I'm not going to lie, I was pretty bummed I didn't order a burger haha. Our waitress was nice and attentive and was on top of checking on us and asking if we needed anything. You also cant beat the price, for two meals, a side salad and two drinks it came out to $20 and some change! If we're ever in the area again we will definitely be back! read more

It's just that good. First time here but will be a frequent eater. It's 24hrs EVERY DARN DAY! I had the bacon burger meal, came with a drink and onion rings. I ordered another side of bacon. It was crispy and on point. The cherry milkshake was like eating a fluffy vanilla, cherry cloud. The small was all I needed for dessert. Prices were well worth it. Customer service was friendly, inviting and answered all my questions with a smile. Come on down to the lil diner that doesn't look like much but has tons of mouth watering, fulfilling portions and cannot go wrong food. Honestly, I have found my tribe. read more

Update: I went back a few days later because a friend wanted to try it out and a really nice thing happened there. We were finishing our lunch and the waitress came over and asked us if we knew the person that had just paid for our lunch. What?! Were we ever surprised! ..and no we had never laid eyes on this kind woman who paid for our meals. (She was long gone by now). This place was a life changing experience for me!!! I came here with my friends who often dine here after the bars close. One Word: DISGUSTING!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK! I am not kidding this place was FULL of people on serious DRUGS!!! To start our waitress was on METH, forgot our order 3 times and STUNK of stale cigarettes! She was SUPER spastic, spilled my soda all over the table, had sweat beading down her forehead and talked super fast, while her jaw moved side to side. I could not believe my eyes! It was sickening and she made me want to use her for the next anti-drug public announcement! UGH! As if the waitress was not enough the people in there were the SAME! It was as if her friends or "regulars" had all come to visit her at work! LOL The patrons all had dilated eyes, spastic movements, and their jaws moved side to side...If you have ever seen someone tweaked these people were the epitome of TWEAKERS!!! My friends were dying of laughter but I found it quite disturbing and really sad that EVERYONE was SPUN outta control at this DIVE restaurant! Food: CRAP,Greasy and nothing special...I couldn't eat my food because the server had her thumb in my plate...ALL OVER MY FOOD! After her jaw moving all crazy and her body language, then her thumb in my food was the icing on the cake! There was no way to enjoy food here! Omg this place has one of the best burgers in Contra Costa County!!! I stopped by here with my friend on our way back from the Marina and I was not disappointed!! So much flavor in the burgers, the fries were delicious as well. My friend ordered the onion rings and they were perfect!!! Everything tasted fresh and the customer service was outstanding even though they were super busy! I love supporting small businesses like this and will return soon! They also have outdoor seating so you can enjoy your meal there. Oh yea, and theres free refills on your fountain drinks! :) thank you for being great during this hectic time! read more

My husband just got off of a 16 hour shift at a really physical job. All he wanted all day was an omelette from this place. I called to order. And called. And called. And called. My husband finally went there and the waitress said they'd taken the phone off the hook because the cook didn't understand English. He asked the waitress if we could get omelettes and she said no, our "best bet" would be a hamburger. To me, this is completely unacceptable. If you hire a person who neither speaks nor understands English, maybe have someone there who can translate. He ended up going someplace else. We used to love this place. read more

Went here today for lunch and decided to order their special, the bacon cheeseburger. The bacon itself is thick cut, they put a ton on, and it's delicious. The rest of the burger was just subpar to me. Nothing memorable about it, good or bad. I personally found it a little dry and added some more ketchup on when I got home. read more

For a mom and pop joint this place was kickin! I had a cheeseburger and fries and they were both delish! I would say minus a star only because there should be more options on the menu. Maybe a turkey burger would be good. If you offer grilled cheese, maybe offering it with lettuce and tomato and onion would also be appetitzing! :) read more

Best breakfast in the Bay Area!!! Juan is a fantastic cook and the owners and other staff are wonderful friendly people. I never ever give 5 stars to anything but for this place I'll make an exception. By far the best biscuits and gravy anywhere next to homemade. The decor is nothing to speak of so don't expect any frills. Just good food at good prices. read more

Since the staff had already packed up and left there was nothing to do but eat around the edges. So that's what I did.

I used to live in Martinez a few years ago and would eat at big Burger often. I've moved back recently And I'm glad I did Big Burger has stepped up their game. The food was delicious the waitresses were n ARE one of the hardest working I've ever seen place was even clean.really. And besides making me a mouth-watering cheeseburger (i would have paid double for it but dont tell THEM that lol.) Besides all thst, THE COOK was good-looking too! OK even sexy. Nothing like a hard-working dude, right? Taking a second to laugh at my silly dad jokes! Not only am I going to tell everyone I see about the good times to be had at big Burger Martinez, But I'll be coming back PLENTY OF TIMES each week To take advantage of their delicious home cooked meals n the excellent service too. First of all I love this place, so hospitable with strict boundaries and amazing . The multitalented man named James, who is a cook and a server, along with the cheeriest server named Carina, offer great dining experience during the late evening in to the early morning.
