Here's everything we have tried at this little shop: 1) Original zombie-plain cheese= 9/10really yummy. Think of it as a pocket of melty cheesy, hot pocket. It's like taking the best part of nachos, encasing in a soft pocket of burger buns. 2) The ham and cheese= 10/10, a big comforting hug wrapped up in a soft pocket of baked dough. 3) Brisket = 7/10- a little on the sweet side for my taste. 4) Breakfast zombie = 10/10. Round sausage patty, smoked bacon, egg, and melty gooey cheese. What better way to start the morning??? 5) Pepperoni pocket = 10/10. It's like a hot pocket, but with better ingredients. 6) Hot links = 9/10. Straightforward, hot links and cheese. What's not to love? 7) Cheeseburger = 10/10. It has pickles and little pieces of diced onions. Tastes like a McD's cheeseburger, wrapped up in a soft pocket. I'd definitely pack up a dozen of these for picnic or road trip. They travel extremely well. I think for a house party--I'd pick up a few dozen of these instead of pizza. They taste better, stay warmer longer, and there's a nice variety. read more

It was ok. I'd been meaning to come here for a while, but never had a chance with work and errands. I'm also not the biggest fan of Downtown Martinez and its parking, so that's another thing. I managed to get here on a Sunday, so I was able to find somewhere to park in Downtown. I came over because I grew up going to schools where cheese zombies were a classic item on the menu, and I've been looking around for decent options. I ordered the cheese zombie as my control and the brisket as a variable. The cheese zombie wasn't nearly as cheesy as I would've hoped. The brisket was decent, but if they can figure out a way to really balance the cheese to BBQ sauce ratio, they would have a hit on their hands. The employee was nice as she took my order, and the place wasn't too loud. I was able to have a normal, room level conversation with the staff, and the fact that this was in Downtown Martinez that encouraged a bit of walking around after was just great. read more

I stopped in and grabbed 4 zombies to-go on a recent trip through Martinez. A lot of the items were sold out, but I was able to get cheese, pizza, jalapeño, and a sausage Pepperjack. I loved all of them so much. Even reheated over a few days. I wish we had one in stockton, I would eat these every day. We have plans to go back with a cooler soon. Quick grab and go location. The stuffed buns are located in a hot box behind the counter so you get your food right after ordering. So if you know what a baked Chinese pork bun is... this is the American version of it. The buns themselves are soft lite and airy. We got: Cheese... imagine American Cheese stuffed inside a bun... ok... not really something to write home about. $4 The Brisket... more like a hand pulled pork in a sweet sauce stuffed bun. I was hoping more for a sliced brisket. Something with a little more texture. The cheese on the beef was not fully melted and incorporated into the brisket. $10 Cheeseburger....now this one is winner. Really smells and taste like a McDonald's cheeseburger. I was strolling through Downtown and had never had a Zombie or heard of it. I walked in to the shop to check it out and was met by the nicest gentleman, he was super welcoming and explained what a Zombie is. He not only explained what they were, but since we told him we had never had one he gifted us one to try out. We tried the cheese Zombie and OMG what an awesome idea. It was filled with tons of cheese and the bread was soft and the cheese just melted in what seemed to be a brioche bun. Rob's Zombies I am a fan!! I had the Concord location bookmarked to try and happened to be in Martinez and saw this new location and knew I had to try them out. I have been to this location 3 times in a week, just ridiculous but that just tells you it's that good. They specialize in what they call Zombies which are buns filled with yummy ingredients and some have a topping as well. The menu has a variety of zombies such as the original cheese, hot link, breakfast, pizza, pastrami & swiss and many others. They also will have special zombies on certain days which you must make sure to check out. Dessert zombies and a nice variety of coffee and beverages are also available. They are pretty much a one stop shop as you can come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I happened to visit on days that they had the special zombies which were pulled pork, brisket and cheeseburger. The brisket zombie was amazing, the bun was nice and fluffy. The brisket was tender and juicy, had the right amount of cheese and barbecue sauce. It was so full of flavor. The cheeseburger was also a hit as it was filled with a nice thick and juicy patty, American cheese, onions, pickles, mustard and ketchup. I also tried the pizza zombie, I loved that it had a cheese crust and the inside was filled with cheese and pepperoni, it had a little bit of sauce but not enough and it seemed hollower than the other variations. Overall, I really like this place and I will be back to work my way through the menu to try all of their other zombies. The customer service was great and the food was great! read more

I just had their brisket zombie and the chicken pesto zombie and OMG!!!!!! The brisket one is just melt in your mouth delicious, it has the right amount of bbq and two slices of cheddar cheese. It made us want to go buy 20 more. Apparently it's in collaboration with slow hand bbq! Ugh so good! The chicken pesto was also amazing. Our family frequents the farmers market on Sundays quite often and during the afternoons there really isn't a ton of light food options to choose from. We chose Rob Zombies to go and walk around. It was good. I really liked their breading. However, the cheese was too processed for me. There's something about fake cheese that is just off putting. I had the breakfast zombie. I wonder if you can get them with light cheese? Maybe I would have enjoyed it more. My husband got the pastrami & swiss zombie which I tried but again, the cheese was not great. My husband liked it and he has been back again. Its ok in a pinch but wont be my first choice. read more

This place is nice to go to for a quick bite to eat if you're either at jury duty or walking around downtown. They are closed on Mondays. I've tried the Breakfast Zombie, Zombie Popper, and Ham & Cheese one. My favorite is the ham & cheese, but they were all good! The worker grabs the sandwich from a case behind the counter and it's nice and warm in a foil pouch. I love how cheesey it is and it does remind you of a school lunch. Very good for quick on the go food either for breakfast or lunch! They also offer coffee and soft drinks. Great addition to Martinez. If you like American cheese and bread this is the place for you. We think of these as special treats on a Sunday and usually go to Patty's in concord but when you don't want to make the trek to concord this will suffice. The only thing I don't get is why their bread is harder on the top. I wish it was just as soft as the rest of the loaf. My favorite is their breakfast option. Great price for something quick and easy. Get their early cause they run out of options. Not the healthiest choice so keep that in mind if your health conscious. read more

I've been craving a Zombie since I had one in Martinez last month! I got the ham and cheese Zombie which was packed full of ham and oozing delicious cheese! The secret may have been in the roll though! It had a wonderful taste and a good chew. I had these delivered by a third party, so I don't know anything about the brick and mortar shop, except that they sent out well-prepared food in an efficient manner. I was getting my nails done in Martinez last weekend and went for a walk around downtown Martinez after my appointment. I had read that Rob's Zombies had opened in the old Papi's location on the 700 block of Main Street. Their original cheese zombie did not disappoint! Ooey gooey cheesy deliciousness. Many of us grew up eating cheese zombies; they were a staple in Mt. Diablo schools starting in the 1960s. They were created by two lunch ladies in 1963! They're a combination of buttery dough and American cheese. Rob is the son of Patty, who worked for Mt. Diablo for over 15 years. She now owns Patty's Original Cheese Zombies in Concord (Concord Blvd). Zombies have evolved over the years; you can enjoy pizza, ham and cheese, breakfast, sausage, hotlinks, and pastrami stuffed in the zombie. I believe Rob's Zombies in Martinez is open seven days a week, like their Concord location. If you're looking for comfort food, you can try them out after the Sunday Farmer's Market in downtown Martinez. read more

I understand being a newer business to the area but we've stopped by 3 times before their posted closing time and each time they've been sold out. I personally don't mind but my kid (who loves "zombies" in general) has been really disappointed each time. If you don't have enough supply that's fine but don't post that you're open certain hours when you've already sold out hours before. *When the Martinez location was sold out we went to the Concord location who has hours posted online as being closed at 6. We were there before 4, and were told they were closed for the day. Not a good look and gives a very amateur impression even though I know these guys have been in business for years. read more
