The beer is good. The location is confusing. It was difficult to find and the signs only helped to a certain point before you get totally lost again. It is in the very back of a very run-down collection of buildings. I had reserved a table for 11 people and when we got there there was only a table for 8 set-up. Okay. And the tables are so narrow...If they didn't also serve food here I would understand, but you can barely fit two plates across from each other on these tables they're so narrow. Their menu isn't very clear. There is no mention of the price of a flight. It has prices for individual 5oz pours, which I appreciate, but we didn't know until the waitress told us that a flight of 4 is $10. That's just bad business. Also, it doesn't say anywhere, and the waitress didn't mention, that it was an extra charge if you wanted a beer from a different brewery included in the flight. The food was the worst part. The bavarian pretzels tasted like breadsticks. I love breadsticks. I love pretzels more and there should definitely be a taste difference. The nachos were anemic. Our friends ordered them to share, but asked to have the jalapenos and black olives excluded and when they came out there was a scoop of meat and a pinch of shredded, unmelted cold cheese on a massive pile of chips. The opposite of loaded nachos. Not worth the 10 or 12 bucks they charged. Every sandwich that came to the table was cold. The chips that come with the sandwiches are just bagged potato chips, still in the bag. I hate that. The 12 Gates salad that I ordered was not how the menu described it. It said on the menu there were going to be like 3 kinds of cheese in it and there was one and it wasn't any of the types they described. The lettuce was limp and boring. It wasn't cheap either. Overall very disappointed. They're menu online makes you think this would be a great place for a big group of friends to go for drinks and dinner, but it does not deliver. I would not recommend this place for dinner. I would drink their beer again, but I would probably just buy it elsewhere rather than go to this spot agin. read more

Love this little gem tucked away in an office park! I'm more of a cocktail gal, but my SO talked me into this. Girls- the beer is actually really good! We were there on a Friday night, so there was a live Beatles cover band which I really enjoyed. The food was typical bar food, nothing special. I made the mistake of ordering the pizza- the sauce was bland, the crust was like that of microwave pizza. THIS PLACE HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I know you're primarily a brewery, but consider revising your menu to include only foods you feel you can do well, or else update your recipes. I know this is Buffalo, but C'MON, pizza isn't hard or expensive to make. I make my own at home, in the oven, and it comes out loads better. read more

Not long after we perused the menu he greeted us again explaining the other servers were busy and he'd get us started (and ended) so safe to say service is great. Been here a few times and never had any food, but have always enjoyed the beer. I do not come here often, but every time I have been here, there are always new brews available, which is a big positive for me. None of the brews have truly stood out to me, but none have disappointed me either. If visiting area breweries, definitely worth a stop by. read more

With the new renaissance going on here in Buffalo there are many breweries popping up. This one is one of my favorites. Not just because I like the brews but also the location. Many of the complaints I've heard about 12 Gates is because of its location; I think it's one of its appeals. Located back behind storage garages in an industrial park it has the feeling of an old speakeasy. Once you do find it it gives the feeling of a big brewery out of such a small space. Besides beer they also have some finger food; I recommend the soft pretzel which comes with 3 different dipping sauces. read more

This review is a little late but, I couldn't NOT right a review. You see, I've known one of the minority owners for a while now. Keeping this in mind and to keep things unbiased, I'm going to write the review based upon what the people I took there said. First of all, it's not the easiest place to find. Follow the GPS on your phone, look to the left just before the curve in the road after you turn off of Werhle Dr. Trust me, it's there lol. We went on Veterans Day as myself and my friend are vets and they honored all vets with a free beer. They also offered cider for his wife who isn't a huge beer fan. They large, community style picnic style tables similar to a German biergarten and on this night, they had an acoustic singer playing. The bar was full, the tables were full and people who didn't know each other were all talking together, just like a German Biergarten!! The 1st thing my friends said when they walked in was "Wow!" They were not expecting the inside after seeing a uninspired outside. Once inside, it's was said that it was "very comfortable" and "a nice place to hang". While didn't have any, comments were made as to how good the flat bread pizzas looked. We talked for a while with a nice couple from Lockport and enjoyed the music. The biggest compliment/review of the night came when my friend said "ya, I'd like to come back again, this was fun." That may not seem like much, but coming from a vet who doesn't get out much because he has PTSD, that's saying an awful lot!! I already know I'll be back, more importantly, WE'LL be back! read more

I've had 12 gates beer in the can before and always wanted to check out the brewery. I went here with a friend Friday night after dinner. It's a bit tricky to find if you are following google maps because it's in an office/industrial complex area with little signage. I definitely drove around a good 15 minutes trying to find it because it was dark and it was a bit hidden at the end of one of the buildings. I did finally find it and there was plenty of parking despite there being a blocked off area in the parking lot for outdoor seating. The outdoor area is open air and closed for winter. The taproom itself is quite small a cozy. Behind the bar they have windows so you can see into the brewery. The design and atmosphere was pretty cool. It was rather crowded and the crowd consisted mostly of 25+ groups of men and middle aged couples. There was a one man band playing original music in the corner. My friend and I ended up sitting with his family on a bench that was probably 100 pounds from breaking in half. We played penny hockey and made some new friends. It was a great time and everyone was super friendly! Luckily the bench never gave out as I was sitting right above the weak spot. My friend got one of the IPA's and I got a sour beer called Resting Peach Face. What a name! I really enjoyed my beer. Sours are my favorite and this one was great! I think the brewery is outgrowing this place a bit and needs more room for seating. It would be tough to come here with a group as seating is quite limited. read more

So....the sampler was a big hit! We recognized the brewmaster from Two Henry's (our home town) and he was awesome! Gave us some extra attention! The staff was great, we loved the beer. Stopped in a couple of times now, consistently enjoyable beer and service. You can get 12 Gates at any of your local stores but of course there is just something different about getting their beer on draft. The second time we came in they were running a special for restaurant week for flatbread pizzas and pints, loved the price but they should probably just stick to beer. The flatbreads were okay, but not really something I would want to get again. Food isn't their specialty so it's not like I was expecting anything gourmet to be fair. Service was not the best, they didn't didnt quite have a handle on how to deal with seating outside without having a hostess. The servers just didn't notice newly seated patrons. I've been to 12 Gates 3 times now. It is close to my office and a fun little destination for an after work brew with coworkers. Yes, it is in an industrial park and a bit difficult to find the first time, but don't let that deter you! One of the benefits of this is ample parking, never had an issue getting a spot, even when they're busy. While it looks unassuming from the outside, the inside is like an Adirondack lodge, very classy. There are plenty of places to sit, both at the bar and at the long bier hall style tables. In the summer, there are additional tables and games outside. The beer is solid. I love their IPA and the red IPA, but haven't disliked anything I've tried. The service has always been prompt and attentive. They full growlers and also have a small menu of pub grub. This is a great place to unwind. read more

Was excited to try this place after all the great reviews. Met friends there tonight and was totally underwhelmed by the food and service. We ordered their take on a Hawaiian pizza, which came out limp and seemed as if it had been microwaved. We were hungry so we ate it all but it was truly unremarkable. But what do you expect at a bar? Sometimes the food is iffy. What I do think is reasonable is that they have enough wait staff on hand to get your drink order and drinks in a timely fashion. The young woman serving us was working her tail off covering a lot of tables. She did the best she could, but she was only one person. I would go back on a less busy night on a full tummy so that I could hopefully get to sample more of their beers. read more

Stopped into 12 Gates on a weeknight, on my trip back home to the 716. A nice location? Not really. Great building? No. It is discretely tucked into a corporate parkway by ECC, difficult to find with limited signage, and a very unimpressive building, at least from the outside. At this point you are thinking, 5 stars? Hell yes. This place is a gem and the regulars probably don't want too many more people to discover it. My rating is all about the beers. These are the best brews in suburban Buffalo for sure. The Buffalo Tripel is well balanced and totally drinkable at around 10%. The West Coast IPA is one of my favorite beers in the region. The prices are more than fair- I believe you can take home a case of West Coast at around $32! Unfortunately I was a day early to test something out of the Randall, which is in effect every Thursday. 12 Gates beers always taste fresh and made with quality ingredients. Inside, is actually a nice laid back setting, where you can easily converse or cheers some new friends. They do have a makeshift patio outside with a few lawn games. I get the feeling there are big things brewing for 12 Gates on the Buffalo beer scene! read more

First off this place could be hard to find if you don't know where you are looking for, in fact while I was on the street it was located on I had to pull up GPS on my phone to find it. Upon entering I realized that 12 Gates was smaller than I thought it would be, but it wasn't that busy so space was not an issue. I really love the whole vibe of this place, the wooden tables and bars, the old time games (like connect four and tic tac toe), the books, and the decor. One of my favorite this about Breweries is that you are able to sample the various brews. I decided to sample the Coffee Porter and knew it was the right drink for me and ended up ordering it, really regretting not bring some home with me, but I'm not worried because I know I'll be returning in the future. Next time I think I'm going to stop by on a night they have a band playing because it seems like a great place to listen to a local band and have a drink. read more

This hard to find brewery has become my favorite. Multiple beers to chose from and a food menu that exceeds many of the other breweries. Their flatbreads are great (try the Todd). An always friendly staff, live music, a Jeep "club" and other events make 12 Gates a place to go and get away from it all. Hard to find - way in back of a warehouse building (go to driveway behind the Tuxedo Junction warehouse & go all the way to rear of lot.) Very good beer! Mostly IPA's, which are not my fave - would love them to brew a saison. Food is actually quite good, even though menu is limited to panini (I had the Cuban) & flatbread. Prices are very reasonable & atmosphere is cool. The female server could be a little nicer & service in general was a bit slow, but in their defense they were pretty slammed (so much so that they were opening boxes of glasses because they kept running low!) Tucked a bit out of the way off Wehrle Dr. in Williamsville...this new brewery is located in of all places....a business park. I met up with a group of friends for a private party/ tasting and to sample what 12 Gates has to offer. It's a different kind of place, but just how good this different is...I'm not quite sure. We were offered some simple appetizers and 5 of their top brews. They were all very tasty. I'm not a big beer lover, but thoroughly enjoyed every one of these. The tap room has a great bar which overlooks the entire brewing portion of the operation. Pretty cool. The sitting area itself is kind of small and picnic tables were the seating arrangement. When asked what type of fare 12 Gates offers with its beer...we were told they don't really have a kitchen, but can make paninis. Ummm...ok. This could be a great place for a lunch and an after work crowd, once it's discovered.... especially since it is inside an industrial park. However...people want to munch on something other than a panini with their beer. With all the "over the top" breweries popping up in Buffalo of late, 12 Gates has a long way to go if they're going to make it in this market. read more

We stopped overnight in Buffalo while traveling from New Hampshire to Cincinnati and wanted to try some local brews. I had found 12 Gates Brewing on the internet and we really enjoyed the beer and flatbread pizza. We had the buffalo style flatbread and it was fantastic along with the Hefeweizen. The brewery is a little hard to find as is in the back of an industrial park, but it was obviously very popular with the locals. read more

When you first drive to this place, you think you're being tricked. It's back in a business/industrial park, so you're not sure what you're getting into. But once you come inside, it's awesome.
