Saw this place all over social media and I was super excited to try it out! I waited around 30 minutes outside before getting in to order. Waited around 10 minutes to order. Got my drink 20 minutes later. The ambiance was really nice and unique. There was a lot of people inside but because the line was separated and people were let in slowly, it didn't feel overwhelming. Experience-wise, I thought it was super cool being able to see the matcha made in front of me. Although, it did feel very slow and slightly awkward just watching the barista whisk away. I appreciated the care that went into making it. I ordered the Matcha Latte for $7. Good price! When I took my first sip after mixing it though, I was so thrown off because it tasted slightly salty. It could be the type of matcha powder used that I'm just not used to but the drink itself was not enjoyable. After reading a couple of reviews here, it seems like there was the option to adjust sweetness. I didn't see any sweetener added to my drink and I wasn't asked if I wanted to adjust sweetness either. I rate the process and presentation of the matcha a 10 but the drink itself had a VERY strong matcha taste to my preference. I got the hot matcha latte with oat. If you like a strong pure matcha taste this is the place for you, they are heavy handed with the matcha powder. Almost 3x powder used per drink than the typical 1-2 tsp. If I'd ever visit again I'd as for less matcha powder and maybe a little more milk ratio. I'm comparing to matcha from Community goods, Maru in LA where each sip was smoother to drink. this is one of those "instagrammable" spots that you don't go for the taste. i feel like the quality of the matcha is so watery, although the rich color is deceptive. i feel like they focus too much on presentation rather than quality of matcha. I think people think once some place blows up on tiktok they're disillusioned into thinking it must be good, but it's not worth the hype imo. As a matcha aficionada, I fear the hype around 12 Matcha is warranted because I'll need to keep coming. The wait time from the corner of the block is about an hour. The staff slowly lets a few people in at a time as can fit which keeps the environment peaceful. The matcha latte was the highlight for me. The staff definitely takes their time and care into making each drink: you can see the them whisk it right in front of you. They put a lot of matcha powder (6g) so it is very flavorful. You'll also notice the fancy and aesthetic water filtration systems. I honestly find $7 a steal for a matcha of this quality, powder quantity, including with oat milk replacement, and popularity of the NoHo/SoHo area. They haven't raised their soft opening prices, and all the prices are still the same (fingers crossed it stays this way). The ice cream and cheesecake are great too, but the drink is definitely the standout for me. The interior is super aesthetic and comfortable. The staff is attentive in removing your finished dishes and throwing away straw wrappers. I've seen them sanitize tables/seating after someone leaves so you can trust that it is kept clean. There's also a very spacious clean bathroom downstairs. The only slight drawback for me is the slow internet speed, though it is really a nice amenity of them to have for patrons. It is definitely still workable but I won't be coming here if I need high speed internet reliability. read more

I came on a weekday late afternoon so only had to wait 10 minutes. The aesthetics are great and so was the show--seeing someone put intention into the whisking of your Matcha. After seeing 12 Matcha pop up on my Tik Tok over and over, I finally decided to come try it out. The experience starts with the wait - when I got there, the line to get into the cafe looped around the corner at the end of the street (total wait:1 hr 20 min on a Saturday afternoon). While admittedly a very long wait for matcha, 12 Matcha makes the wait as pleasant as possible, offering giant umbrellas to everyone in line to block the sun/heat as well as having an employee walk through the line handing out water every once in a while. Once inside, I ordered at the kiosk, and then was told that my name would be called when my order was about to be made (so that you can head over and watch the employee make your drink). I ordered a matcha latte with mild simple syrup, a matcha basque cheesecake, a financier, and a scoop of matcha ice cream and hojicha ice cream. Everything was delicious, but the star of the show was by far the basque cheesecake and matcha latte! In both, the matcha flavor was intense and clearly present without tasting bitter (the way matcha sometimes tastes). My friend and I (two young girls) went inside to join our cousin, who was already seated at a table. He was completely unprofessional and aggressive, turning red in the face and yelling at us to leave and go to the back of the line, even though we were trying to follow normal café etiquette. His tone and body language made us feel extremely unsafe, as if he was ready to lash out physically. It was so humiliating and terrifying that we were shaking afterward. Absolutely unacceptable behavior for someone working in hospitality. If you're young -- especially young women -- I would think twice before coming here. As an Asian with a sister who has been obsessed with matcha before it was even a thing, I am unfortunately very disappointed by this place. We waited an hour, and figured if people will wait this long, it has to be good. Welll, they are ridiculously slow and that's why the line is as long as it is. My friend who ordered with me got her drink and finished her croissant before they finally got me mine?!?! And when I finally got it, it was just not drinkable. I threw it out halfway cause I was trying to force myself to drink it since we waited so long for it. We both agreed the sweetener they use ruins it. She got whole milk and I got oat.
