My car got sideswiped while parked and had all kinds of dents/scratches down the side, broken side mirror, etc but after taking it here you'd never know it. Joe is super friendly, and in addition to doing a fantastic job on the car he also helped me figure out all the ins and outs of the insurance claim process, which made the whole experience a lot less stressful. I was a little worried about finding a place in Brooklyn that wouldn't rip me off, but Joe is incredibly honest and trustworthy, and if I ever need any additional work in the future I will 100% be coming back here. So I never thought I would need a car living in Brooklyn. Hell, half the reason I love living here so much is not needing one. But of course, as they do, things have changed* When my family offered to give me their old car on the cheap**, I couldn't resist, but there was one major problem....how do I say this nicely....they are kind of blind? They are like, the nicest people in the world, but god damn do they not know how to take care of a car. Needless to say, there were some cosmetic issues I just wasn't cool with, and as such my search for a decent body work place began. It was as legit awful as you're imagining it to be *Shops who tell you it'll be 500$ no worries (yeah OK) *Shops who try to convince you to commit insurance fraud *Shops that never get back to you *Shops that seem WAY too eager to get you in It was a less than pleasant experience, that is, until I found 15th street. Joe was down to earth, patient, and realistic with what it would cost to fix. He let me know what the issues were, and why certain things would be needed. We agreed upon a price (cash seemed to get it down a bit), and a few days later I dropped off a deposit and the keys. I got it back around 10 days later and man was I impressed. The front bumper was completely replaced, the back bumper looks as good as new, and the huge rust gouge in the side looks like it did stock. I have no clue how he got the giant dent out of the rear quarter panel, but that too looks amazing. I know it's cliche to say, but this is the only place I'd take my car in the city now, and if you're looking for a solid spot that does great work, and someone who is easy to deal with, look no further. Found them here at yelp and I'm very glad I did. I am not affiliated with this shop in any way. Joe did a great job in quickly fixing my issue. He was very honest and straight forward. It ended up to be a quick adjustment of the striker as opposed to a body work... Issue: My door was not fully "flush" to the body when you close the front driver door...I thought it needed a body work. Called at 830 today and stopped by at around 10 for them to look at it. Joe was quick to examine the door and after a few minutes, he said "let me get my tools." He adjusted the striker and about 15-30 minutes of adjusting the position and opening/closing the door, he fixed it and the door closes like it's brand new. He charged me a very fair amount for the quick work. He could have easily up-charged and have me leave the car for the day etc, which could have been a couple of hundred bucks worth...but he thought, after looking at the issue, that he may be able to remedy it quickly and see if his solution works....and it did!!! He was honest from the very start. If I have future body work needed on my car, I would bring it here for sure. read more

I don't know about cars, man. It's not my thing. Obviously this makes me queasy whenever I need something done to my car. I bring it in, I sortof flap my hands helplessly at it and whine "FIIIIIIIX IIIIIIT" and they're like what's wrong with it and I'm like I don't know, it's gone weird. I imagine that they're going around the corner like look at this idiot, he's wearing a scarf, let's tell him the hyperdrive is out and it'll cost ten million dollars. It would work! I don't know! Hyperdrive sounds important! Anyway these guys aren't like that. They are kind to me. They tell me what's wrong, they tell me what isn't wrong, they tell me how I can save money. I once asked them to drive it around and tell me if there was anything that needed fixing and they were like nah, your car's fine, that'll be zero money. (I mean, they were replacing my battery too, it's not like I was ripping them off.) Here's what you need in your life: you need a doctor, plumber, hairdresser, and mechanic whom you can trust. This is an update from my last post six years ago. I still have my Camry, and a tree branch broke off and fell onto the passenger side mirror, breaking it into pieces. I returned to 15th Auto Body, they had moved across the street to 35 15th street, but the place is still the same place for great service. My mirror was replaced for the very reasonable price of $130, I did not request that they paint it green, so I kept it standard black. The price would have been around $200 had I painted it to match rest of car. Still very reasonable. I told the owner, Joe, I will be back when someone breaks it again! read more

So often women are duped into paying more for car work and repairs, but Joe listened my needs and my financial limitations and he provided me with excellent service. He reshaped my fender instead of replacing it and found me a used part to keep costs down. He even rejected the first delivery he received because he didn't feel it was adequate to install. Joe called multiple vendors to find me a reliable used part and followed up with me over the course of several days. He was able to save me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. I'm not sure why this place has such glowing reviews. When I got there, I stood around for a few minutes waiting for someone to help me out. Four guys were sitting around and a couple of them just kind of stared blankly. I asked who could help me get a quote and was referred to the owner who told me to wait. After another couple minutes we went outside for the quote. He wanted more than twice the price anyone else quoted me 50% of the cost going towards labor. This shop might be great for Park Slope stroller moms who can afford to blow money getting ripped off on car repairs, but I'd rather go a little out of my way to a less trendy neighborhood where shops can't get away with this kind of robbery. I have a newer Jeep Wrangler that needed the front bumper replaced. I went to a Jeep dealership in Manhattan and one in Greenwich, Connecticut. There was a bit of underlying damage to the frame and both dealerships told me the bumper alone, with labor, would be about $1,200 to $1,500. And with the frame work it could be as high as $3,000 for the repair. Upon the advice of a friend I went to a "good auto body shop" to get an estimate. I looked on Yelp and found 15th Street Auto Body in Brooklyn. They were super friendly on the phone when I called. I contacted them on a Friday and asked if they could get the job completed by Monday morning. A tight timeline, but they said they'd see if they could source the parts and would call me back to let me know if it was possible. 30 minutes later I got the call and they said they could do it. To make a long story shorter, I got my frame and bumper (and fog light) fixed, in 48 hours, with a used but mint condition bumper, all for $760. They were completely up front with the costs and the turnaround time. I got calls when the part came in and when the job was done. Great service and work. being terrible at parallel parking (yes i publicly admit it) i was forced to find my local autobody shop sooner than i would've liked, after having just purchased my BMW X3 (in case anyone wonders how good they are with European cars), less than two months ago however, Joe was great! "do you need it perfect... no? then we can do it for a lot less" came in considerably less than what i had thought, given my research on some online forums was it more than the guy on craigslist who claimed he could come over and bang it out on my block? yes... but i wanted the peace of mind of knowing there were guys who would stand behind their work, same guys that my insurance company would send me to anyways (authorized Geico service center) needless to say - it was perfect... will post my before and after pictures but very happy w/ Joe and his two sons and the work they did at this stand up, family-run business! read more

A neighbor backed into my parked 2016 Subaru Outback recently and wanted to pay for the repairs out of pocket. It's been quite a few years since I had body work done, so I turned to my neighborhood list-serve and Facebook pages for advise. 15th Street and another body shop, in Prospect Heights, were recommended. I visited both shops and got estimates, which were quite similar. Incidentally, although both shops posted signs listing a charge for written estimates, neither actually charged me. I chose 15th Street because: *They had better Yelp reviews *Joe took more time to explain what had to be done to my car *The other shop seemed crowded and chaotic while 15th Street was neat and orderly Joe and his staff did an excellent job, including replacing a door with a new original Subaru one. Had my car not been brand new I might have opted for a cheaper repair, but, in this case, I was glad to have a new door installed. The work took just about the time Joe estimated (slightly over one week). The only delay was caused by Subaru shipping the wrong door moulding, but Joe phoned me when the correct part arrived, a few days after I initially picked my car up, and installed the moulding while I waited. I hope I don't need body work in the future, but, if I do, I'll bring my car to this shop, and I have no qualms about recommending it to my neighbors. 01/12/18 I just picked up my car from this shop after having body work done there a second time. My 5-star rating is unchanged. This is a first rate auto body shop and I'm pleased with their work (even though I'm not at all happy that I scraped the side of my car and needed another repair). Note that this shop is not in the new GEICO "Express" program, but I was able to get my car inspected there by a GEICO adjuster several days earlier than if I had used a shop in that program. I came to 15th Street Auto because Yelp had some fantastic reviews. I wasn't planning coming to this side of Brooklyn but did just to get another estimate. I had a few prior and a few after. This shop is a family run business. Usually it means to me that a family is striving for a little more than just to make money. It means the staff is courteous, professional, and you don't get the feeling of being thrown off to the side. Joe took a look at my poor front end that had a deer as a target and explained every single spot and what type of work will need to be done (if you ever hit a deer the damage is substantial). He then called back with estimate and it was more than fair. To be honest, he came under everyone I've seen prior to and with the help of Yelps' review on the quality of work this shop does, it would have been pretty dumb for me to take my baby any where else. After the work? What can I say? My car looked brand new. Spotless, just perfect. The people who work here are top notch that do superior work. I don't see why anyone would take their cars anywhere else. If you think your car is too expensive and needs a specific type of body shop, know this, my car was BMW and I saw other cars being worked on which were up there as well. I rarely write reviews, but it would be a sin not to direct more people to this establishment. Extremely satisfied with the work from the beginning of the process till the end. read more

I researched for an autobody shop after receiving some fender damage on a JCW Mini Cooper. I looked at and received a few estimates from shops around the area and ended up choosing Joe's shop because of the time he took to honestly explain what the process would be to fix the damage. He helped me in a non-greedy fashion decide whether or not the fix was worth it *for me*. That combined with positive word of mouth and good reviews here made me feel very comfortable. This was the worst experience I have ever had with any auto shop hands down. If I could give zero stars I would. My jeep was rear-ended and I brought it to Joe, who seemed at first kind and helpful. I had read his reviews here on Yelp and thought he was an honest, local businessman. But I was completely wrong. Not only was he not honest or nice, it took him almost 2 MONTHS TO FIX MY CAR. When I brought my Jeep in, I made the mistake of telling him I didn't need it done immediately and leaving my car there. After it was there for two and 1/2 weeks and he hadn't even started it, I tried to take it back and go somewhere else, but he told me he would have to charge me a fee for storage, which he never mentioned and I felt stuck. I had to call every week to check in and see if he had started the work and every week he gave me an excuse that there were others ahead of me, the parts were on back order, etc. He talked down to me, changed the prices he was charging to exactly match the estimate from the insurance company so he could squeeze every last dime out of them and kept moving my car to the end of the queue as other cars came in and he had to get them out quickly so he could make as much money as possible. Don't be fooled by the folksy, regular guy routine he gives you. His wife and son work there and they seem scared by him, just staring and not saying a word to help me the many times I came by begging to get my car done sooner. By the time I got my car out two months later, I felt demoralized and angry. I don't understand how these other reviews are so positive, as this was the worst experience I ever had with any repair for anything. The worst part was that he seemed to be really honest and helpful at first and he wasn't. He is a shady, dishonest person. Stay away. read more

To be honest, 15th Street Auto Body wasn't even my first choice. Wanted some lighting work done on my new (to me) BMW 540i. Yelp brought me to Minh's Auto Care Center first because they have raving reviews and are supposedly German car specialists. My experience with them however, was less than satisfactory and not just because of the stealership rates they charge, they were also rather unfriendly. After some more Yelping, I found 15th Street Auto, and to my surprise was a complete 180 from my previous experience with Minh's to say the least.My turn signals were out when I purchased the car and my right lowbeam died few days ago, so I bought the parts I needed elsewhere to avoid getting gouged. Brought the car to the shop, was greeted by Joe Jr. and Joe Sr. Gave them a run down of what happened and what I wanted done, Joe Sr. gave me a quote that was a fraction of what Minh's wanted. Told me it wouldn't take long and they'll give me a call when it's ready. Fast forward 2 hours I'm getting antsy wondering what's taking so long, called them and Joe Sr. told me they ran into some problems. Previous owner or mechanic wedged the wrong bulb into the wrong socket and it corroded so it was more or less destroyed. I was advised to change the bulbs and the sockets and that the bulbs I bought wouldn't do. I thought to myself oh lord what is this going to run me, surprisingly not much at all, beating all the prices I could find on the web. So I went to the shop (I work a street away), they had taken photos to send me and also held the defective parts to show me when I got there, which was a new experience for me and a quite awesome one in that matter. They ordered the parts got me in next morning and bam everything done within 20 minutes. Wish they did more than just simple mechanic and body work, I'd go here for everything auto. TL;DR Friendly, honesty, trustworthy, thorough, and with the lowest estimates. You usually only get one or the other in the mechanic world, rarely do you get it all; 15th Street Auto has it all. Got my sideview mirror ripped from my 2011 Jetta Wagon by some a-hole delivery truck that didn't stop. Common. The dealeship wanted 1200 to fix it. Geico sent me here. The estimate came to 460 - all out of my pocket. Tony called around to bone yards and got me a used mirror off the same model from a wrecked jetta. He painted it, installed it, buffed out the other one -- AND drove the car over to get an inspection. He saved me over 100 bucks. Looks good as new. It took longer than I was hoping to, but man, it's nice to know there's still family operations like this who have values and customer service. This is the America I'm happy to live in. Ok Joe got me real good. My insurance company wanted to know why my car loaner cost was more than the repair bill. Joe took so long with the repair and kept up the constant reassurances, but I felt screwed. They are a Gieco shop, Gieco customers get priority. Don't even think about coming here if you have another insurance carrier. The quality of their work was not even good. read more
