Very fresh sushi as always. Great variated menu, has anything you would crave for regarding Japanese/Asian cuisine. Clean and attentive staff, cold beers, clean bar. Cool refreshing music this time! Around 6pm on a Friday. Great temperature in building, nice and cool. Hand sanitizer everywhere, greatly accommodating. Fun environment, beautiful menu, perfect sushi rice. Try everything... My friends and I wanted to go get dinner in Hampden, and we decided to try out 18-8 Sushi. None of us had ever been, and we agreed that you can't go wrong with sushi, but we were mistaken. There were about four other tables full when we arrived, so it was not very crowded. We waited 10 minutes for a waitress after sitting down, and we waited another 10 minutes just for waters. We all ordered small appetizers, which took at least 20 minutes to come out. They were mid. My friend ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, which said it would be all shrimp on the menu, but it was actually just two shrimps and more vegetables. We were not happy about this, but we decided to eat it anyway. I took a bite of the shrimp, and I was immediately taken aback. We all took bites and agreed it tasted like pre-frozen shrimp tempura, and it had the texture of a mushy French fry (ew). We were starving so we finished all of it... but I do not recommend. Our waitress finally came to take our main course orders at least another 20 minutes later, and we had to flag her down again to get our waters refilled. We were parched af, and she was never anywhere to be found... and we were her only table! We were starving, and all the other tables had their food coming in. We were so jealous. We had been waiting at least 30 minutes for our food (we all just ordered single sushi rolls). Sushi rolls probably take 10 minutes at most to make. Inefficient af. I took it upon myself to walk up to the sushi bar and ask where our sushi rolls were. They said they'd be ready in five minutes. TWENTY MINUTES LATER (and after another trip to the sushi bar), our rolls finally came. Most of our rolls were spicy, which we wanted, but our waitress continued to neglect to check in on us and refill our waters. We were burning up. The rolls were decent, but definitely not worth the wait. We were at that damn restaurant for two hours! Thankfully, the Charmery is nearby, so we went there and revived ourselves with ice cream after our poor sushi experience. I definitely do not recommend 18-8 Sushi if you are looking to receive food without going to ask for it yourself. read more

The spicy tuna wasn't that spicy or crunchy but okay. Got the fancy roll also. It's was decent! The mango was nice. Wish it had more mango in it. But the tempera in it was crispy. But still doesn't match up to my favorite sushi place. But the presentation was beautiful! So pretty okay sushi. My friend really liked her roll. Okay prices. Flavor is okay. I ordered sushi online and was told it will be ready in 35 minutes. I showed up 45 minutes later and was told it would be 15 minutes longer. That happened a few more times. I sat in their parking lot for nearly an hour. The sushi tasted alright but the soup was Luke warm. I guess the soup was ready on time. 18-8 in Hampden has great sushi-- the best I have had in a long time. Their menu is extensive and delicious. They have photos (which is helpful) but they don't necessarily align with the descriptions. Four of us dined here on a rainy Friday night. Heads up: You will want to park in the parking garage and look for the elevator down to the shops/restaurants, NOT the residential stairway that we got stuck in like white mice. The parking garage is new and not really well signed in terms of getting around. It was free to park. We had a ton of sushi-- all of it good, all of it so very fresh. The service was excellent. Updating my review to 4 stars. This place has worked out a lot of the kinks and does many things well. My favorite roll is the PT and their sashimi is delicious. Almost as fresh tasting as Chiyo but this place is very different in many ways. The location in the rotunda is perfect. I really want to like this place. Unfortunately, they really seem to have issues with getting food out in a timely fashion. At the end of the summer, we walked there and ordered 3 sushi rolls to go. They said 15-20 minutes. It took more than 30. There were about 4 people eating inside, and it was the middle of the day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, since they recently opened, and returned on Thursday for dinner. It looked like everyone was getting their food quickly after they ordered, and that seemed like a good sign. My friend ordered 2 sushi rolls and I ordered the drunken noodles with 2 pieces of sashimi. The noodles came about 15 minutes later and looked as though they had been sitting for a while. The presentation was nice and they were still warm. They had a good amount of spice and flavor. It took more than 30 minutes for any of the food from the sushi bar to come. While the servers were apologetic, no manager ever came to try to make the situation better. Offer some soup or something else while your customers wait for what is clearly an understaffed sushi bar. Waste of a child-free date night! My husband was just back from a trip so we decided to go have a little sushi date night and one of the new places in Hampden. We were choosing between 18-8 and Nori and decided with 18-8 because the Yelp reviews were better. Now I'm questioning... why??? Have these people ever had good sushi before? Yes, as another reviewer said it is "clean" and in a "safe" area. I'll take a little grunge and sketch for good sushi though... if need be! The inside of 18-8 is very large and feels like a corporate chain. I'm not sure if it is or not, but that's the general feel. However, there are some chains that I love and repeatedly patronize, so I was going to let the food speak for itself. We were the ONLY ones in there, except for one girl picking up some takeout and ordered an app and 4 rolls, which took FOREVER. I could not understand why it was taking so long when there was literally no one else to wait on. Edamame came out quickly, but that's it. I understand that sometimes there are unexpected slow-downs in the kitchen, but in that case, I expect the waitress to come over an alert us/apologize...refill drinks..but we were ignored until the food came, a decade later. Sushi was sloppy looking and underwhelming. Not particularly fresh tasting or flavorful. The Godzilla roll was the highlight, I guess, and I'd get that again...but I'm not going back because there are many other better sushi places in this city. Hopefully Nori is better. We've been here a few times out of convenience and it's been ok. Tonight I felt inclined to comment on how bad the food quality is. The cucumber in the rolls tasted like it had been leftover in the fridge for days- soggy, wet. One of our rolls tasted like hand lotion. The sushi roll was really fresh and delicious and will definitely be ordering sushi from here again, but I wouldn't recommend the Thai food-- we had the Thai curry & Drunken noodles. We tried 18-8 by delivery for the first time tonight and were less than impressed. I ordered ahead to give them time to get it together and to us without rushing. I ordered at 5pm for a 6:30pm delivery and immediately the delivery window was 6:30-6:50 and the food arrived at 6:48. That could totally be a factor of the delivery service so I won't hold this against them but it was a bad start. We ordered the salmon avocado, shrimp tempura, yellowtail, spicy tuna crunch, and sunrise rolls. All the rolls except the yellowtail were underwhelming and bland. The sushi is fresh and the menu features many different kinds depending on your mood and preferences: traditional rolls as well as fancy rolls. The only complaint I've ever had was on the wait, but the be honest, it's always been pretty busy when I stop by to order, so I'd suggest ordering ahead and picking up if you're able. Bartender didnt know what a Manhattan was- there was a sign up looking to hire one lol- but she made a tasty cocktail off the menu list for my wife, I stick with beer! Stuck with California rolls and bento boxes- always good test. All fresh, tasty, filling! My steak teriyaki was tender, cooked perfect medium mmmm... shrimp in wifes dish were tender yet crisp. Give it a shot if you're looking for a new sushi place! I had the garden salad (I order this on every sushi menu because I love ginger dressing) was nervous when there's came out because it's a creamy ginger dressing- but it was delicious!! Also got an order of pork gyoza which was cooked perfectly and a Tokyo Roll that tasted super fresh. I left full and happy!! The space is large and they have a big sushi bar and regular bar. I work out at Brick Bodies in the same general area, and I walk by almost daily. One day after my workout I decided to stop by, and I came during their happy hour. While the happy hour menu didn't really appeal to me, I ordered a roll from off of it, in addition to a regular priced specialty roll. Neither really tasted that great, but the spicy tuna roll off the happy hour menu had an off taste. I mentioned this to my server, and I also only ate a small portion , but I was charged for it regardless. The food is always good, and I have to say that I really appreciate the "naruto" options for rolls without rice because I'm on a low-carb/keto diet. Exceptional post workout meal. With happy hour pricing, I am a fan. We over ate but I enjoyed the Shrimp and the large portions. We reside in Timonium so our area is overly sushi saturated. We prefer Edo Sushi but this location offered more meat such as fresh crab meat in their rolls. If I lived in the Icon I would weigh 500 pounds. My husband, who has art talent and wanted to be an interior designer, loved the decor. The menu is value oriented and the wait staff were friendly. My husband wanted a Manhattan but he noticed the alcohol available was "rotgut" so he opted for a beer. Do not order take out from here!! The staff will jam all your orders into one paper bag without any consideration for spills. One of the containers containing miso soup was punctured and spilled into the fabric of my car. And the bag completely collapsed once I brought it into the home--spilling on my carpet and table. What a disaster! I called and spoke to management and gave feedback. Hopefully this issue will be addressed. They did not offer to replace my soup but that's okay I won't be coming back. read more

I have never left a review for any restaurants before. never felt inclined to until my friends and i ate here. it was all bad. high school cafeteria quality food. my friend ordered tom yum soup with shrimp, and there were two shrimp in it, both of which were very obviously leftover from something else because they were fried / battered and tossed into the soup where they got soggy and gross. my sushi was baby sized and the tuna was cooked.
