There are some good food items, but don't expect to be overly impressed by the quality. Maybe it's because I was born and raised in Seattle and in my 10 years of living on the East Coast. I realize most Asian restaurants have different standards, but the food here is just not good. And I'm not even saying that in the sense of, oh I don't like this dish--I mean it more so in, it tastes like plastic because it's so artificial tasting and looking if feels like it was the cheapest microwaveable thing they could find. On top of that, because I live in the area I've been here a few times and I swear half of the time there's a kid working on elementary school homework (like I can see the level of material) who serves me my food...

Sushi is always solid. Nice service and the inside is always clean. 10/10 recommend if you're in the area!

I've been to 18-8 many times and am always very happy with my food. Their lunch specials are really good with a pretty wide selection available for a fairly reasonable price especially because good sushi can really get expensive. For lunch, I recommend the sashimi bento box (pictured). It comes with rice, salad, California roll, two fried sushi pieces, and then a good sized sashimi platter. I have also had many of their special rolls and the lobster mango is my favorite. If you have never had mango in sushi rolls before, I highly recommend it! Just be mindful if you do takeout or pickup that it will be a very long time and their estimates will always be like 1/2 of the actual time.

18-8 is one of my favorite neighborhood spots for sushi! I got a ton of takeout from them during the pandemic and was always satisfied with how carefully they packaged each order and made sure to pay attention to the special instructions. Now they are open for indoor seating although I've yet to actually take advantage of that. Located within the Rotunda shopping center, parking can be a bit challenging depending on the day and time. I normally get some combination of sushi, miso soup, and maybe a fried appetizer of sorts. They have a pretty good lunch Maki deal during the week that comes with two or three sushi rolls of choice, a salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. It's a lot of food for a good price ($10-$13 depending on how many rolls you get)! I will say the one thing I got from here that I was not a fan of was the bento box. I ordered it with the salmon and it was lacking in flavor. That said, I haven't tried any of the other meat entrees so maybe the chicken or beef might be better? Pro tip: order through their website for pickup to avoid extra fees from third party apps. It's usually ready within 15-20 minutes!

Decided to stop by late on a Friday after movie night. There were lots of tables available and the atmosphere was pretty nice. We were greeted pretty quickly upon arriving and seated immediately. After perusing the menu we decided on the Volcano Roll and I believe the Sunshine Roll. When our meal arrived I found the rice on the outside of both rolls to be extremely dry and I found the taste of them both to be unremarkable. On a positive note our food did arrive at our table quickly however I can't recommend this restaurant and don't anticipate returning.

Another takeout dinner from 18-8 and overall very good. They are available on Doordash but with a significant markup in prices so if you can pick up your order you'll save a fair amount. The food is not quite as good as Sho You in Fed Hill (which is the best sushi in Baltimore) and is a bit more expensive, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. For appetizers we had the shumai dumplings (steamed shrimp dumplings), the Gyoza (pan fried pork dumplings), seaweed salad, edamame, spicy edamame and duck roll. The dumplings, both kinds, were fantastic and the ponzu-like dipping sauce they came with was perfect. The seaweed salad was standard and good and duck roll was okay but had very little duck in it. I would suggest adding more duck meat to make this a better dish. The edamame was standard but the spicy edamame left something to be desired. It was covered in a kind of spicy mayo that wasn't all that good. I would not order it again. We had 3 special rolls, the Tiger, Dragon King and Tuna Amazing and one regular roll, the Alaska (salmon, cucumber and avocado). The Tiger is Salmon, eel, topped with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, spicy mayo sauce, crunch, masago & scallion on top. It was good but didn't blow me away. Same with the Tuna Amazing which was good but not as flavorful as I would have thought given the interesting mix of different kinds of tuna. It is White tuna tempura, spicy tuna, avocado, topped with pepper tuna and a special sauce, caviar, and scallion. The Dragon King was the best, with Soft shell crab and snow crab in sesame soy wrapper topped with eel and avocado. I would get this one again for sure but I'm not as sure about the others. Don't get me wrong, they were good, just not fantastic. The nigiri was quite well prepared. We had tuna, salmon, yellowtail, unagi, scallop and octopus. All were very good quality and delicious fish. Reasonable serving size as well. If I have the time to drive across town to get to Sho You, that will always be my top choice for sushi but 18-8 is still very good and a lot closer so we'll be back and if you live in the area I suggest you check it out as well.

Food was good. Atmosphere is causal with plenty of seatings & group seating. Service was pleasant and timely. I recommend.

We have been coming to 18-8 for years. Great sushi restaurant in Baltimore. Family run restaurant. Enjoyed the cloudy sake and would highly recommend if you have never tried it.

I happened to be in the Rotunda, needed food and this place had a lunch special for $9.95 of various Chinese/Thai/Asian dishes on the menu so I decided to try the Chicken & Broccoli in brown sauce + Thai chicken curry. I opted for one with a salad, the other with miso soup (included with lunch special). It was a 15 minute wait, they have the front entrance blocked off by a table though so you can't wait inside. You also must order & pay at this blockade and wait for a staff member to show up and detect your presence since there's no one standing right inside (awkward). Food was ready by then. We sat at some tables set up outside of the pizza place nearby and ate under the hot sun... I was really thrown off by the strange taste of the "curry" which was a thick reddish-orange slurry tasted a lot like ketchup and nothing like Thai red curry. It consisted mostly of random vegetables and a little bit of thinly sliced chicken breast. The chicken & broccoli in brown sauce was SOO SALTY and they put a ton of cornstarch in the dark soy sauce base that it wasn't very easy to brush off the clumps of sauce. Salad was fresh though, and the miso soup tasted a bit watered down. I could tell it's one of those mediocre Chinese/Asian places that sell a hodge podge of random Asian food not correctly prepared. Flavors are VERY OFF and not traditional. I'm only giving it 3 stars because the price point was lower than most of the other establishments in this area (where the food appears overpriced).

This review was for my dinner experience at 2/15/2022. Arrived at around 8:30 and the place only had two tables of guests. Still it took me 5 minutes and a handwave for someone to take my order. Food was standard, but midway through my meal the staff started mopping the floor with some detergents with strong odor that was extremely repulsive. Almost made me stop eating and pack up for takeaway.

Conveniently located in The Rotunda, 18-8 has great lunch specials! For $13, the steak teriyaki bento box came with 6 California rolls, rice, 2 fried shumai, salad, and a choice of miso or hot and sour soup. Great value, teriyaki sauce was good, and there was a lot of food to go around. Pork gyoza was both tender and crispy. Will definitely come back to try drinks and more food!

This is Puerto Rican pitorro, also known as ron cañita, made with care and intention rather than gimmickry. Many local liquor stores now carry the brand, and it is well worth picking up a bottle, but visiting the distillery is an experience in itself. The founder is a fellow Puerto Rican born retired military member, a background I share, and like me, he has put down roots in Maryland. That story is reflected clearly in the brand's own framing, "Puerto Rican born, Maryland made." The space feels grounded and unpretentious, and that sensibility carries through to the hospitality. We arrived late on a Saturday and were still welcomed warmly, never rushed. We were taken care of by the founder's daughter, who was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. She guided us through a flight that included the traditional pitorro, almond, pineapple, coffee, coconut chai, and several seasonal offerings. The flavors were thoughtful and well balanced; even the infused expressions retained a clear rum backbone rather than drifting into novelty. We enjoyed them enough to leave with several bottles. This is artisanal pitorro done right, rooted in Puerto Rican tradition and confidently made in Maryland. Buying it locally is convenient, but going to the distillery is where the people, the story, and the spirit fully come together.

My fav is John Updike's Old Fashioned. My son ordered and loved the Strawberry Gin & Tonic. This establishment is a great conversation starter, and I look forward to returning asap.

My wife and I made a reservation for bar seating to celebrate a promotion and requested to move to the dining room after realising there was a world cup crowd in the bar area. Absolutely no problem at all. Our server was on the bar staff and made excellent drink recommendations, even recommending second round pairings based on our order. The food came out of the kitchen immediately, our small plates were served as they hit the pass, and our main, the duck donburi, came out of the kitchen moments after we finished our small plates. Our order was all based on the server's recommendations and were all excellent. We finished the meal with a rotating dessert, tonight a dish with blueberry compote and coconut cream atop a small cake that was equally fluffy and rich, and port and a dessert cocktail, both equally satisfying and paired nicely with the dessert. On the way out, we left our takeout box of the leftover donburi on the table and were barely out of the front door for moments before a server ran out our box to us. He was not our server; they are just very attentive. Go to this restaurant, try their elegant Polynesian dishes and spins, appreciate the service and tip them well. This restaurant deserves to survive.

There were plenty of tables of the appropiate size available. The hostess/manager begrudging moved to another table. When that table had a chair that one of our party felt was uncomfortable for their needs, we asked to swap a chair with another one. (tables are set with mismatched chairs - this is part of the decor) This request turned into a hoopla because the hostess/manager had to approve the swap. Seriously? So now we've become "those" people. Moving on to the food/drink. Food /drink were dropped quickly. Too quickly IMO with entrees dropped without clearing appetizers. Knives seem to be by special request. Awkward. The food itself was fine. Tuna poke, lumpia & asparagus were all good but not memorable. Skimpy portions but okay. On to the entrees, our group had the duck, chicken & 2 ordered fish & chips. One fish & chip had 2 pieces of fish, the other only 1. Kinda felt that we were in a Seinfeld TV episode - only one piece of fish for you. just felt like we were being punished for being "those" people. We passed on dessert - no one wanted to linger or spend anymore time being rushed.
