I went there yesterday with a friend. We had the mimosas and I had the fajita omelet while she had the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was DELICIOUS! I was telling the owner that it was a great idea to add fruit shavings into the mimosas as it enhanced the flavor. It was our first time, but definitely not the last. We will be back!! read more

Just in town for the morning had a late breakfast around 10am on a Saturday. Parking was easy, first impression walking in, is the feeling of your ideal family owned restaurant, not like any franchise. No wait, seated right away, and greeted upon walking in. Waitress was very nice and got our menus and drinks quickly. Ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with sunny side up eggs and white toast. Chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly, not burnt nor tasted like cardboard like I've tasted in some restaurants not to mention. The gravy for the steak was yummy and tasty not bland and perfect texture on my palate. Sunny side up eggs was good and not too runny, and toast was perfectly brown. It's a little whole-in-the-wall type of spot and the food is pretty good. Nothing fancy about the restaurant, typical cafe style settings with the red booths outlining the place and a couple small tables and chairs in the middle. Small staff, but they're friendly. I never thought I'd give this place a bad rating. We've been going here for over 6 years, but in the recent year or two, service has gone downhill (I think it's new ownership.) This morning, we were served our food but not silverware, and even after notifying wait staff, waited a few minutes before we received utensils. I observed waitstaff standing around without paying attention to customers. Server couldn't remember who ordered what (table of 2... that shouldn't be an issue.) After plates were cleared, we waited at least 5 minutes while I was literally twirling my debit card in my hand waiting for the check. Multiple staff members walked by without noticing, so we had to ask for the check. Mind you, it was only moderately busy and they had plenty of staff. I've also noticed a downhill trend in the cleanliness of the establishment - for months they've had rips in the booth seats and nothing seems to have been done. Hopefully they'll figure out a way to turn things around, but I don't intend to come back for a while. read more

My wife and I ate there for the first time today. The place was very busy but there was no " panic" feeling from the staff and even though we got the last table right in front of the door, our waitress relocated us right away as one one of the booths opened up. She was so attentive and just genuinely nice. A breath of fresh air. The food was amazing. My chicken fried steak, eggs and hash browns were cooked to perfection and very tasty. I really love this place for a couple of reasons. It's layed back, great food, huge portions that I often have to ask them to cut back a bit and friendly service. I am such a brunchy person and damn, the food here was AMAZING (great prices too)! Its located in a small yet narrow plaza with tiny parking lot in the back (mind your cars to not get hit). This place needs a little more ventilation because BOY WAS IT STUFFY. Yelp gives you 10% off certain items when you check in (youre the best yelp). The boy ordered their breakfast special of 2 hotcakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. I ordered their country eggs benedict with hashbrowns. SO BLOWN AWAY by the portion size and the quality of the food. I'm usually not a pancake type of gal but damn, those were so fluffy buttery cakes! Adding the strawberry jam and syrup helped but anyways... Country white gravy was the richest and well complimented with the eggs benedict on top of sausage and biscuit. Hashbrowns were made perfectly and crispy! Yelpers say that this is a great spot. Having finally eaten there, I concur. Personal taste considered, this is not the kind of place I'd find myself eating out at. For me, going to a restaurant is a special event. In contrast, this is a little cafe that's good for those who eat out several times a week, rather than a handful of times per month like me. As comfortable as an old sweatshirt, as filling as Mom's cooking. It's out of place among the atmosphere of the Monument Corridor; on the other hand, this is the kind of cafe that this neighborhood needs. The special event: Mothers Day, in honor of the hunny who could go out to eat breakfast every day if she could. Personally, I don't understand the appeal of waking up early, getting dressed to leave the house, and go to a restaurant to eat before I'm even fully alert; but today was about Mom, not Dad. We'd seen 1800 Cafe a lot when going to Food Maxx, and I suggested we go here before Harvest Church. And here's what happened: * Not many people in there so early on a Sunday morning, and it appeared that half the people there were regulars. * Wait staff was cheerful and helpful. * Kids menu, complete with crayons. * Comfort food, typical for breakfast: French toast, sausage, eggs, bacon, biscuits w/gravy, even oatmeal. * I got four yum-o pieces of French toast, two okay sausages, and loaded my scrambled eggs with Tabasco Sauce. Not that it needed Tabasco Sauce, it was good. And I've never had such a good helping of French toast. * My wife ordered what she thought would be good. She gasped when she got a dinner plate with two biscuits . . . heaped with bacon, hash browns, and loaded with gravy on top, covering the entire plate. She loved it, and ate little for the rest of the day. * Mickey Mouse pancakes? My daughter got a pancake, two small pancakes for ears, maraschino cherries for eyes and nose, and whipped cream at the bottom. She was happy. * Why oh why were they playing The Carpenters??? * A much higher price than I expected. But it's fitting for the amount of food we got. I'd like to try 1800 Cafe again, and so would the rest of my family. The problem, of course, is timing; it's not much of a dinner place, even though it's open for dinner, so it's good for breakfast and lunch. It doesn't look like much, but they do fill you up. This is not a fancy place...it is like many places I ate when I was a kid. Think of an independent coffee shop of *Yester-year*. I mean, they have milkshakes and jello!! Hubby had the Salsbury Steak...and it was very nice...onions, gravy, real mashed potatoes, and broccoli....plus he got a salad with it! Who would of thought there would be a great breakfast place on Monument? I have heard countless amounts of great things about this place, not only from my yelper buds, but even from some peeps from the non yelper squad. Well, while running some errands the other morning, and while being incredibly hungry, for some reason this place crossed my mind. Being I was not too far, I decided to swing on in and see what they are about. They have a small parking lot on the left side of the building, and I ended up getting a nice little spot near the front entrance door. I was warmly greeted by some friendly staff and told I can sit where ever. I sat at a table by the window. I ordered some coffee. And for food, I ordered the Linguisa Jalapeno omelet. It comes with cheddar and Jack cheese, onions, jalapeno and Linquica, however, I switched the Linqguisa for sausage instead. It also comes with hash browns and toast. I opted out on the toast but decided to get the hash browns it comes with. Coffee tasted decent. Omelet and hash browns arrived quite decent in portion. Omelet was fluffy, cooked well and turned out quite tasty. Also very filling. I did not have much of the hash browns however, with I enjoyed the few bites I had. Service was also sincere and friendly. I will certainly come back again. The place appeared clean. Food was good, prices were awesome, and the bright, cheery service was certainly an added plus. read more

This place is tucked away and unassuming but do NOT miss it if you are looking for a great breakfast! While it is not perfect, I had to give it five stars for the overall experience and breakfast. At the table, we had a cowboy hash, which is a scramble of deliciousness (thick chunks of bacon, onion, green pepper, homefries) with eggs on top. Pure gold, that was - the potatoes were incredibly flavorful. Best part were the biscuits and gravy. Best biscuits and gravy I have ever had -- and I spent a lot of time in Texas! The biscuits were fresh and lovely and not a bit dry. The gravy was peppery and creamy and had a perfect flavor. These biscuits made me soooo happy. Coffee is very decent here and the prices very reasonable. Tiny downsides were that the eggs were a little crispy on the bottom and the wait staff could have been a bit more attentive. That fork that got dropped on the ground never did get replaced, despite waving down someone to ask and had to wave down someone for coffee, too. I can be the complete opposite: tired and grumpy and not in the mood to cook breakfast. This last Saturday was not a bushy-tailed day. So husband and I laid in bed thinking about where to go to eat, when I remembered my friends telling me how good the food is at 1800 Cafe. Sadly, I've been calling it 1-800-Cafe (like a phone #). In fact, it's their address on Monument. (1800 Cafe at 1800 Monument.) We walked in and it was certainly crowded but we found a middle table and were immediately greeted by one girl who then brought our drinks. Another woman took our order - I had crab cake eggs benedict with extra crispy hashbrowns ($10.95), husband had eggs, toast, hashbrowns and sausage links ($6.95), and our friend James (who gave the recommendation) joined us shortly after, ordering a country fried chicken breakfast with scrambled eggs and hasbrowns ($8.95). Our food was quick and everything was excellent. Mr. Amy S. really liked his toast. it had lots of butter - which we love. He didn't care much for the sausage links but I had one and liked it. We took one home to the cat and she liked it too! About this time a child at another table spilled their drink and I laughed. Cruelly :) I always say, kids in the backseat cause accidents. Accidents in the back seat cause kids. My breakfast was unreal. So good! I'm not sure I've ever ordered eggs benedict, though I may have had it at brunch buffets, since I always try everything! It was soooo good. I didn't know the egg yolks would be runny. They were perfect. And the crab cake was seasoned nicely. Great flavor. Amazing breakfast. My hashbrowns were cooked to my liking as well. Then, as karma would have it, I knocked over my entire glass of water all over the table and my plate. That's what I get for laughing at children. My mess was much bigger than the previous sippy-cup-sized one. Yet another employee came over and helped us clean up. And offered some good-natured teasing about bringing ME a sippy cup. We really liked all the girls that worked there. They were funny and efficient, even though it was so busy they were happy and fast-working. So glad we found this breakfast gem. I scanned the vast menu and quickly decided on my Litmus test. #1 - Biscuits & gravy, an egg, sausage patty. Large portion, quick turnaround, and fresh made ingredients. Excellent "surprise" breakfast at what obviously is a neighborhood favorite with a mixer of people, many also notedly addressed by name. Awesome...many "regulars" equals great inexpensive food breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can't imagine you NOT finding something you will enjoy on the SIX page full menu PLUS a "Daily Specials" one just in case you feel like "narrowing your choices". One note, I came via private limo (ok, drove myself) Montgomery Avenue traveling east and almost missed this "jewel". However, I did notice when leaving that it is CLEARLY visible from all other directions. When you see "Mel's & Sons' Muffler", prepare to take the very next right-hand turn. I rate 1800 Cafe a tentative 3.5 stars kind of place. But I must say that I write this review while I am in the midst of my annual Lent no-meat, no-sweets diet so I am currently a crabby diner. I feel that once I am more myself, I will be rating them at least a solid 4 stars. Now with the preface written, let us get on to the review. The place is small which can easily be made cozy, if only they could figure out a way to hide their cases of supply away from the eyes of their diner (may I suggest a screen/room divider for this?). But at least it is clean, and the tables and floors are not sticky. We waited quite a bit before someone came to our table to give us the menus. I think the waitress was actually the manager or the proprietress as we overheard her giving an earful to the two guys who were at the counter when we came in and kind of ignored our presence (to be fair, though, I feel like the guys are new to waitering and still learning the ropes so I can't be too mean about my comments regarding them). The price is very reasonable and the servings are very generous. The food is rather tasty, too, that I can honestly say that I will be back for their other offerings (maybe when I am back to my omnivorous ways). read more

Woke up and wanted some breakfast/brunch food. Decided to finally try 1800 Cafe, after passing by it on my way towards Costco. Being torn between an omelet, French toast, and Eggs Benedict, I decided that since it was my first time, I would get an omelet (since it would be small enough to get French toast and has similar ingredients to EB). There was only one person working the front and one person in the back. Although it took quite some times to get things started, food was prepared pretty quickly. The food was good. Cheese was melted into the eggs and the spinach, mushrooms were cooked very well and didn't fall apart easily. The French toast was alright. Had a slight hint of cinnamon and the syrup wasn't too overpowering. However, there wasn't anything too outstanding. I understand that the food choices were pretty basic, but it only means that it's hard to make them stand out just like it is hard to mess them up. The lady waiting on me was fairly nice. Good sense of humor. Ill probably come back since the food is reasonably price and the place is close to my house. read more

With no wait we walked in to 1800 Cafe and sat down at the table right in front of the door. That was a mistake with how cold its been, every time someone opened the door brrrrr it sent a chill down my spine. We didn't have to wait long to be asked if we wanted a drink and I chose a coke and Amy got a coffee. We then ordered our food i got two eggs sausage and hash browns and Amy got the crab cake Benedict. We both needed refills on our drinks and we finally asked when our waiter was nearby and she brought mine but didn't bring the coffee for Amy. Amy had to then ask again and this time the waitress took her coffee mug to the coffee. After a couple of more minutes and her coffee still MIA we had to ask again, and this time we were told they were making more coffee. This was unfortunate because we watched them refill other coffee cups that whole time we were waiting. The food finally arrived and everything on my plate looked spot on but on the other side of the table it was a different story. At first bite Amy was happy then she flipped the crab cake over and it was burnt to a crisp. It seemed like the cook thought they could hide it with a little hollandaise sauce. Poor Amy she was really looking forward to those crab cakes. She told the server about the problem and asked for just two eggs and hash browns. They ended up not making us pay for Amy's meal which was nice but it was still pretty bad they tried to hide the burnt crab cakes. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a different breakfast place and came here on a recommendation from our roommate. It took us a minute to find and then another few minutes to find a parking spot. It was packed! We were immediately greeted when we walked in the door and were able to find a table right away. I ordered a bacon, mushroom, cheese, and cream cheese omelette and it was delicious! A great American diner that serves breakfast and lunch....located in a small strip mall directly across the street from Food Maxx and between Jack in the Box and a car wash. Easy to miss the turn, so when you pass Jack in the Box turn right onto driveway where the white fire hydrant is before the car wash. It has changed ownership....however, it's still top quality food for a reasonable price at this diner. Great for breakfast and a a lot of choices to select for breakfast and lunch. I'll never been there for dinner, but one day will check it out. They do not offer much vegetarian entrees, but do have salads and a vegetarian burger. The staff is nice and professional. The only thing negative is they are slow to refill your coffee, other then that it's a great place to go eat. Their country fry steak for breakfast is really good. A. They offer specials for breakfast daily for about $6. - $7. I would recommend this place if you want a simple diner to eat at. read more

He got his typical eggs & chops, with fruit and sourdough. Got a side of biscuit & gravy. Eggs are cooked on the soft side. Scramble was wet, over-medium eggs were way closer to over-easy. Next time we'll know better. Country potatoes are well done, biscuit and gravy was good, pork chops were lightly breaded (yum), fruit salad was only watermelon and cantaloupe (yuck). Chicken fried steak and eggs with eggs over medium. CFS was chopped, chunked and formed. Let down. Eggs a bit undercooked but okay. Home fried potatoes were very good. Food over all pretty good. The owner and his wife(one of the cooks) introduced themselves to us and they were unbelievably polite.
