Unique spin on southern flare in a nicely remodeled space of a former town staple. Come with an open mind and empty belly and maybe check out the menu on Facebook before you go so you can google the ingredients :-). You may not recognize all the names but that's ok, dive in and experience something new! The best ramen I've ever had, sweet potato biscuits are amazing, the smoked apple on the classic fried green tomato with pimento cheese is the best 6th man in food! If you aren't a FGT person go for the truffle fries or spring rolls. Don't forget the Apple cheesecake (or whatever cheesecake is on the menu) for dessert. For a cocktail it's gotta be the the Old Capitol Fashioned, you are in Indiana's first state Capital so embrace it! read more

Myself and 7 others ate here tonight and were very pleased. Everyone enjoyed their meal which included the steak and chips, crab cakes, chicken, and Brussel sprouts. I personally had the smash burger and I liked it however there was too much aioli sauce on the burger. I instantly had to grab my plate and napkin. I also had the red blend wine which good but honestly wasn't all that. The beginning of the sip was watery but the finish was a good red wine. I do want to note the steak is pre cut. The service and staff was very nice and accommodating. All staff were wearing masks and were sanitizing after every customer. I would eat here again. read more

This restaurant could compete with any large city restaurant and leave them in the dust: the menu is a one of a kind and you'll get something at 1816 you won't find anywhere else. Atmosphere was terrific and the background music was my favorite era and they didn't shy away from the early 80s rock. My food was cooked perfectly and the staff was quick and very friendly. Just passing through and saw this place. Very quaint atmosphere. Started with the fried green tomatoes. They were the best. Crunchy, with lettuce and sauce that was delicious. Husband had the smash burger. I tried it. It was off the chain. (Of course I had some.). I ordered the pork belly general tso. It was a burst of flavors. My husband loved it too. Traveled from Louisville to eat here after coming across this restaurant on open table. The restaurant is small but has an upstairs and outdoor tables for overflow (on weekends it seems). Every table was filled with reservations but 3 or 4 groups arrived without and were accommodated outside or upstairs. The cocktails were unique and tastey. The Goto Marg is now my favorite! My entire table of 5 raved about their entrées. Everyone's food arrived hot and at the same time. The staff was friendly and provided outstanding service. We will be returning! read more

Looking to try somewhere new, we went here after finding it on Yelp. We will definitely be back; there were several items on their (somewhat small) menu that we wanted to try! A must stop when in town. The food is off the charts. Fried green tomatoes are a great start to an amazing entree. Whether it's the best burger I've ever tasted (make sure to add the pork belly) or the elegance in the simplicity of the crispy chicken, you will be left clamoring for more. Not to worry for the ginger bread pudding is scrumptious but my favorite is the apple cheesecake. Hands down the most delicious cheesecake to touch my palate. read more

We decided to support or local restaurants thru this time of Covid. We had not been to 1816 before so decided to give it a try. The bottom of my dinner was burned black, and the entire meal had a burnt taste. I through most of it in the trash. We will not be going back. Driving through the area & found this amazing spot on Yelp. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was delicious, crispy breading so good you won't leave a crumb behind. Thinly sliced apples and silky honey add a wonderful sweetness. My husband had the smash burger with fries , a great dish when you really want a burger, but the BLT was amazing. A sweet potato biscuit open faced sandwich that demands a fork & knife. Pork belly and fried green tomato topped with sunny side up eggs that were the color you know only comes from good quality. We were full but didn't want to pass up a taste of the ginger bread pudding with pumpkin bourbon leche. "Just have a bite", my husband said. HA! We fought over the very last bits. Great service and a cozy setting completed the experience. We don't live in the area but if we did we'd be regulars. read more

We love this place. It has great atmosphere and the food is always amazing. The truffle fries or fries green tomatoes will have you hooked from the start. We've had the steak, the salmon, the meatloaf, and a special one evening--beef stroganoff. They were all delicious and beautifully plated. The flavors are something you can't quite put your finger on, but each dish is unique and tasty! This restaurant is not the kind of place I'd expect to find in Indiana. 1816 Modern Kitchen rivals some of the great Dallas and San Francisco restaurants we've been to. We are thankful to have a gem like this in Southern Indiana. We drive from 40 minutes away to enjoy it. read more

Such a fabulous little gem in Corydon! This was our first visit and we were just completely blown away. I definitely suggest caring for reservations as the dining area is small. We called and were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time. The food is delicious. The poutine is unlike anything I've ever had and the shrimp and grits were fabulous. The gingerbread pudding.... oh my. Love at first bite. It was definitely worth the drive to try all these unique plates. :) read more

What a wonderful addition to Corydon, IN!! My son and I ate dinner here last night and it exceeded both our expectations. Swift and friendly service, and wonderful/delicious food. We started off with the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were just as delicious as everyone has said they were. I had the Shrimp & Grits and it was scrumptious and cooked to perfection. My son had the Steak-N-Chips - no need for salt or pepper or any sauce of any kind - the steak was cooked flawlessly and seasoned well. He said it just melted in his mouth. The fries were crispy and fun to eat with the fabulous dipping sauce. We will definitely be back! Thank you 1816...great job!! read more

I went there last night with my husband and another couple. All four of us were incredibly impressed. We shared three starters, the poutine, fried green tomatoes and the brussel sprouts. My friend, Lee was in poutine heaven!! My husband said the fried green tomatoes were the best he had ever had and we all agreed the sprouts were also perfection! My only tiny criticism was that there was no bread to mop up the last bit of deliciousness!!! The waiter, Nick said we were allowed to lick our plates! For entrees we each chose something different so we could all have a bite. We had the crispy chicken, the cauliflower shrimps and grits, the venison meatballs and the fried haloumi. Again, everything was incredible and perfect. The margarita, which 3 of us had was definitely the best margarita we all had ever had. We had each of the desserts, the ginger bread pudding and the apple cheesecake which both were nectar on a plate. Service was prompt and courteous. I had the good fortune to speak to chef Scott outside at the end of service when he was grabbing a quick break. He came from the Exchange in New Albany another of my favorite restaurants. I think 1816 Modern Kitchen provides a much needed upscale restaurant in Corydon among the endless fast food and chains. We will all be regular customers and cannot wait to go for brunch and bloody marys. read more

My mom, sister and I decided to go to 1816 for a special girls' night out dinner. (We did not have reservations, but it was an early Thursday night and got the one table open.) We ordered two fried green tomato appetizers and split the fish special that night. Everything was wonderful! My husband and I made reservations for this past Friday evening, and he is still telling everyone about the cocktails he ordered--the old fashioned and southern iced tea. He says the old fashioned was the best he's ever had. He ordered the pork belly dish and I finally ordered the shrimp and grits after decided between that and the ramen, which looked wonderful at the next table over. I love shrimp and grits, and this was one of the best I've had. The sauce around the grits and the fried leeks on top were wonderful--plenty of sauce for the cauliflower grits and enough leeks for a bit of crunch with each forkful. We also had the fried green tomatoes with the excellent pimento cheese. Wish we'd made room for the apple cheesecake...maybe next time. My mom gave us a gift certificate for the next time we're in town. So excited to come back! (By the way, my husband wants to know who did that whiskey barrel wall and where he fans came from...both would look amazing until he sunroom we're planning to build.) read more

When I go to a new restaurant I always get a burger. If you can't do a burger right then I wonder if anything else will be good. 1816 killed it with the burger. The fried green tomatoes (which I am normally not a fan of) were excellent. The star of the show had to be the cheesecake. Hands down the best cheesecake I have ever had. Spoke with chef Scott who took the time to answer questions and talk about future plans. It was a pleasure talking with him. The staff was awesome. Will be going back again and again. read more

Not everyone is welcome here. We were excited to try and went in (didn't know about the reservation thing - maybe that made a difference). Two sets of patrons came in after we did and were served before us. One even left the building before we were served. They were busy (for a very small place) but there were tables available so they seated us. Started to feel unwelcome and almost left, but then our meal was delivered. We were the last patrons served during their lunch hours. Waitress was nice, but we were sad when we left. Never had that experience before. Maybe Corydon area country folk aren't welcome in this establishment. Food was good. read more

We were visiting friends in the area and had lunch here on Sunday. They live in the area but had not yet eaten here. So the 6 of us headed over. Soooo glad we did. We all extremely enjoyed the food. The decor was fun and comfortable. Staff was AMAZING, so sweet, attentive and interactive. A wonderful end to a work weekend and relaxed for the 6 hr drive home.
