[TL;DR] Go on a Monday. Why? Half-off bottles of wine. We had the pleasure of a private dining experience. We were one of the crazy ones that went when it was supposed to snow. All it did was rain. Everyone stayed home though. It was great! Oversized booths, dark wood, and painted up mirrors define the atmosphere here. It's broken-in luxury, in a way. It's like an old, leather-bound book. Our waitress was amazing. She really knew her food. If only I remembered her name! Everything we ordered was based on her recommendation which was quite on point. The SPINACH AND ARTICHOKE DIP was very tasty, served with crispy toast. Rather small though to share between more than two people. Your waistline might appreciate that. We tried the BLACKENED MAHI MAHI which is served with a goat cheese potato puree as they call it. Looks and tastes like mashed potatoes. :o) The fish was cooked tenderly and seasoned delicately. Not really my thing, honestly. I prefer fish that has more flavor. The crowning achievement of the night was the SHORT SMOKED DRY RUBBED CHICKEN. This is the thing you come here for and that which you will remember of the place. (Not the burger, the meatballs, the steak, the fish, the charcuterie, the oysters, etc.) This is what you need to get. It comes on a bed of triple cream mac and cheese mixed with crispy brussels sprouts. The creaminess pairs very well with the dry rub. They have a pretty impressive selection of whisky, including one of my favorite scotches -- Highland Park. Solid experience from start to finish. Started with the spicy basil cocktail. YUM. So much yum. Moved on to the white cranberry cosmo (can't remember the exact name). Also yum. Shared the brussels with the table. They were good. Not the best I've had, nothing super unique about them although I love roasted brussels so of course they were good. Had the short rib. It was great. The meat was flavorful, tender, fall apart good. The risotto was ok. Not amazing. Would have preferred another side. I would have tried to sub it originally, but they charge $2 for subs and the butternut squash sounded good enough. I do with I had known it was teeeeeeny tiny little flecks within the risotto. I'd have sprung for the sub. I didn't order dessert, but the gals I was with ordered the chocolate mousse cake and the peanut butter dessert. They liked the peanut butter with bacon ice cream a lot. I snagged a bite of the peanut butter portion (bacon in dessert is not my thing), and I wasn't super impressed. They didn't seem impressed by the cake. Overall this was great. Spendy, but that comes with the area. I'd definitely try some of the cocktails, as they are unique and fun. Focus on the main course. Maybe skip dessert and get another drink. Overall worth a try. 1920 is a solid option for American gourmet food in downtown Roswell along Canton Street. With the amount of good food and competition in the downtown area of Roswell, you have to stand out and 1920 has certainly done this both in their food and in the atmosphere. The food is definitely an upscale option compared to some of the other restaurants nearby like Ceviche or Roux, but if you're willing to pay the price then you're sure to find something that will satisfy your taste buds. The thing that I enjoyed most on the entire menu was the smoked chicken that came on top of a mound of creamy macaroni and cheese and Brussel sprouts. I am not sure whether it was because I was really hungry or if this menu option just happens to combine all of my favorite things into one dish, but I can say that it will be hard to look at anything else on the menu when I return. The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection and the crunch of it along with the smoke flavor of chicken and creamy mac and cheese was the perfect combination. My wife had the gourmet burger which was good, but a little expensive for a burger. I still prefer a few other local options for a burger such as moxie because it is more reasonable and fits the atmosphere for eating a burger. I also tried the sea bass special at 1920 and it was a good dish that was very fresh tasting. If you are someone who tends to enjoy a relaxed and comforting atmosphere then is not a place I can recommend. The ambiance of Salt nearby and the comfort of Mac McGee pub are much more comfortable in my opinion. Along the walls are massive mirrors with messages written in red and other large pieces of red artwork that clash with everything else in the restaurant. Combine that with poor lighting and it feels like you're stuck in some kind of brothel. To me, this isn't a big deal. I can still enjoy a meal in the worst hole in the wall places, but for many people, a terrible atmosphere is something they don't enjoy when they're paying for a nice dinner so I thought I would include my perspective. read more

One of the best meals I've had out in some time. From the smoked old fashioned cocktail to the Chilean sea bass entree, everything was prepared and executed perfectly by the bar and kitchen staff. But food alone doesn't make a meal 5-star, it takes above average service too, and we certainly received that. Our server, Alison, and the evening's manager, Jenna, made us feel welcome, and did an incredible job taking care of my wife and me, even in the midst of all of Canton St. losing power during the Alive in Roswell event. We never saw them sweat, and their hospitality didn't diminish a bit. It was our second time visiting, and second time receiving great food and service. I came into the 1920 Tavern for the first time today. I didn't have a reservation and they were fairly busy. I was expecting a long wait but in about five minutes we were seated. We were promptly waited on by Patrick. He got our drinks and appetizer ready. He might have become busy as it was lunch rush on a Saturday. But Travis stepped in without missing a beat and put our lunch order in. It was probably less than fifteen minutes and our food showed. It was not only hot and tasty, but the meat for the steak salad my husband ordered and the beef for my burger, were the correct temperature. I've been ordering burgers at sit down restaurants for year at medium and getting medium well. Our first experience at this place was great. Excellent food, strong drinks for the price, and most importantly their customer service was tops! I'd recommend this place. The prices were really outstanding for the food and the location. So today was my first time visiting 1920 Tavern and although the circumstances aren't ideal, they still provided us with excellent customer service. When we arrived, the hostess took our temperature at the door (safety first) and then went to seat us at our table. The ambiance inside is very chill and relaxing, it wasn't super crowded and everyone was spaced out at the tables (another plus for me). Our waitress was great as well, super attentive and our food came out really quickly! I ordered the Twin Petite Filet Mignon and oh my gosh it was the most savory steak I've ever eaten. The steak was split into two on top of puréed potatoes, asparagus and drizzled in shallot cognac sauce with Shiitake mushrooms. Absolutely amazing! I will definitely be returning!!! read more

This was my first time dining in historic Roswell and I was not disappointed. The bar is small and dark, but just the way I like it. First, the drink menu is really fun. There's a wide variety of whiskey which I also love. The best part was the beverage I ordered gives back to the community! Proceeds from the honey habanero mule are to help the hungry in Atlanta. My friend and I dropped by for a lunch bite and a Bloody Mary. I ordered a cup of chicken soup and a grouper sandwich and my friend ordered the short rib tacos. We split the soup ( it had little dumplings in it). Yummy! Everything was delicious and filling! I honestly thought I couldn't not finish my grouper sand but it was so good I just had to! Was walking around Canton street to get out of the house now that mask mandates have lightened up. Came upon this place and came in for a quick lunch. First off the staff was quick to get me seated and order, had no problem getting attention. The food though, out of this world. Great place. I travel alone and at most restaurants I can get a seat at the bar if the dining room is busy. At 1920 the bar was packed and I didn't have a reservation but they squeezed me in. I believe I have found the 'new' best wings in Roswell... since Roswell Tap is now a different place and their wing recipe is just 'ok', needed to do a bit of exploring to find my fix. Was busy when we showed up yesterday with 6 adults and 3 kids under 3 (no reservation. Thankfully we didn't need it, but this spot stays busy! Even lunch on a Wednesday! Maybe think ahead). What a phenomenal gem in the heart of Roswell! This was my second time coming here. We came with a party of 10 to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. The food is fabulous. Hands-down my favorite meal while in the Atlanta area and the best meal I had had in some time. I went with some friends, after a day of brewery visits, and I am really glad we stopped here. Decent food and an excellent location in the heart of Canton St, but at a high price tag--and if they don't get you on the food, they sure will on the pricy drinks. I enjoyed my tavern salad and the option to add different protein toppers ($17 with salmon added), but what put me off from the restaurant was the service. Our wait staff were constantly coming by our table trying to take our glasses and dishes away well before they were empty, which made us feel like they were itching to get us out the door and someone else in at our table. While I might return for some nibbles and drinks in an off time, it's not a location I would like to be farmed in and out of during a dinner rush. read more

Small patio, excellent bar scene, and the type of restaurant for intimate dinners of fun group dinners. The owner and his wife are always checking on the guests and maintain a lively atmosphere.
