Asked if we could be given a app as it was my first time and experienced this right out of the gate and was told "you should be lucky you got in because we have reservations booked for 2 months out!" Checked OpenTable and they had tables for the largest parties in all prime time spots Yikes. Food was decent. This was our favorite restaurant on our whole trip through Georgia. The food was amazing, as was the service from our waitress, Jeanne. It's on the pricier end, so dinners here are typically for when we have guests from out of town or our doing a couples date night with friends. My friends and I visited here on a Saturday night. We made reservations which I recommend because the place was absolutely packed. It took about 15 minutes for us to be sat which was totally fine. We had some great cocktails made by Desiree and they were fantastic. Our server, Rick, greeted us right away and he was great. Very attentive and on top of it. Super friendly as well. We ordered and it didn't take long at all for the food to come out. We shared the burrata salad, roasted pear salad, mussels, fried green tomatoes, short rib tacos and oysters rockefeller. The food was wonderful. I LOVED the roasted pear salad. We weren't a huge fan of the oysters rockefeller. There was a ton of breading and barely any oyster. There was one thing that happened that we found to be strange. First we were told twice by someone who appeared to be a manager that the food runner called out sick which was weird because we got our food super fast and weren't complaining so I didn't see the point of telling us that (We were seated right by the kitchen so maybe she was frustrated and needed to tell someone). Then as I was walking from the bathroom back to my table I noticed the floor was super slippery and I thought it was just my shoes but then when my friend went to use the restroom and was walking back she slid about three feet on the super slick floor. Clearly oil or something had been spilled and when we told the same lady who told us about the food runner she said "well you were walking right past the kitchen". I thought that was weird. You have oil slicked on your floor that every person has to walk by to go to the restroom and should probably clean it up before someone gets hurt and you get sued. It was super strange. This place came highly recommended by my customers in the Alpharetta area. We started with the calamari and salmon crustini's both were so savory and good. I had the pistachio crusted grouper which was dynamite! I enjoyed the strawberry and basil lemonade... it was so refreshing. First time back in Roswell for some time, and we decided on 1920 Tavern for our niece's 21st birthday celebration. It was a gorgeous day and we had requested outdoor seating so we weren't surprised when that wasn't available. They took great care of us, however, and seated us at a large square table near the quiet back of the restaurant. But that's not where the amazing treatment ended. The front-of-house person took such incredible care of making sure my niece had a superb evening . . . and she did! From the cocktail suggestion, made especially for her to the shots at the end, she felt like a birthday princess. She will never forget her special evening. Now for the food! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the parmesan encrusted grouper with sauteed spinach and Yukon Gold roasted potatoes, and I relished every bite. My husband had the boneless short rib and my sister had the chicken cajun alfredo pasta. The birthday girl had the seared tuna, and all three thoroughly enjoyed their main courses. Apps included the calamari, shrimp dip, and crab cake. All delicious. The food was good, but it was the service that put this review over a 4. Perhaps most amazing was there was a huge table of prom-goers next to us and the service remained impeccable the entire time. Firstly I've been to Roswell but this trip we decided to grab lunch after a walk at Vickery trail. We stumbled onto 1920. We searched it through Yelp! and decided on this restaurant because it was dog-friendly and has outdoor seating. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly staff then came one more, he recognized that we were the ones who called earlier and he welcomed us with a bright wide smile. He was very friendly to our dog too. Not only were we taken care off, a staff offered me a blanket to stay warm, our dog was also swooned by the entire staff. We had small plates of mussels in chipotle sauce, a salad and my husband had a sandwich..... First of all, the small plate was not small. It was very filling. We shared the salad and they were proactive in dividing it into 2 plates. Very few restaurants have done this for us before, very proactive and intuitive. I likey very much. My husband's salmon sandwich was delicious. The fries were heavenly and thin and crispy. OMG.... We would back for sure. Thank you for taking good care of us. Although the food we ordered was a little disappointing, I'm willing to give them a second chance for the service was nice. We went with the dry rub chicken...and it literally was "dry". Chicken had no flavor and Brussels sprouts were bitter to taste. Oyster Rockefeller were overpowered by the spinach topping and shards of shell were in the mix so be careful biting or swallowing. Or better yet, just avoid the oyster rockerfeller. I mentioned the dryness of the chicken but nothing was done to appease our appetite or make our visit more memorable than what it was. I have not been to downtown Roswell in quite a while. It's a cute little downtown area packed with tons of people. Be prepared to pay to park, unless you get extremely lucky to find a spot. I came with a really good friend of mine to celebrate my birthday. He lives downtown, so it was kind of a halfway meeting point. I forgot how small the restaurants are in this area. When we went to sit down, I felt like the tables on opposite sides were awfully close together. First things first, I needed a drink. I loved their martini menu. I was really hard core debating between the Jennalychee and the Pomegranate white cosmo. Since the lychee martini is not very common, I went with that. I had started drinking it, and one of the hostesses dropped by my table, and said she didn't like the way they had made my martini, and the lychees should have been more blended into the drink. So she actually went to get me another one, which I thought was super sweet of her. And she was right. It did taste better blended but wasn't the best lychee martini I've ever had. Next we got appetizers. We tried two different kinds of oysters, fresh and fried. The fresh were decent sized, but briny-tasting. The fried were better with the bread crumbs and cheese. Cheese makes everything better. For dinner, I was craving a Caesar salad and decided on the tuna tacos. The Caesar was pretty good, but I wished the dressing had a bit more punch to it, maybe more garlic and lemon. It was definitely very creamy. The tacos were disappointing. There was barely any tuna in them, and as far as flavor, they were really bland. It was kind of ridiculous how little product was in each taco. (see picture below) I hate to say it, but my favorite part of the meal was my friend's spinach. It had a really good taste and seasoning to it. Glad I was able to get a bite of that. They did bring me a flourless chocolate cake for my dessert, which was really nice. Again, it was okay, but didn't wow me. It was decent, but not rave-worthy. Personally, I don't want to smell or partake in cigarette smoke when I am eating. When I mentioned this, Jenna, the owners wife, it was said that it was a cigar and I could not smell it. Well, I promise. I could. And I could smell the group of cronies that he gathered. That is my main complaint. Howard actually asked me if I would light his cigarette for him once. Our entrees came out next. Now my food was not hot at all. Kinda cold actually now I had the fried chicken that was cooked to perfection so maybe the other part sat until the chicken was done. Like the first visit the staff was very friendly and attentive. My waiter never let my Diet Coke go empty and a fellow waiter brought me a to-go drink when I paid my check. Also, a number of employees thanked me for my visit as I left. The food was much better on this second visit, on a sunny and warm Friday at lunch. I had their Awesome Burger and added bacon at the waiter's inquiry. It comes with a side of fries which were fresh and crispy and had a great seasoning and of a good portion side. The burger was served hot and cooked as ordered. The cheese, shiitake mushrooms, and garlic aioli worked well together to make a savory combo. I couldn't pick up on the distinctive nuttiness that characterizes Gruyere but it's not a strong cheese and had plenty of flavor competition. It was a very filling double-patty burger. Normally the bun goes unsung since it often is just to hold everything together. But the quality of their Brioche was good and nicely toasted to enhance it's contribution to the sandwich. With a soft drink my total came to $20.15 which is to be expected in this locale. If I weren't counting calories, I would have been sorely tempted by their bread pudding and peanut butter bar, both of which looked great. The entree menu is, however, a bit limited with the variety focused on the bar offerings. I'm not a fan of shrimp dishes that leave the harsh tails on, and the tapas style plates are probably great with drink pairings. I also want to mention that the owner was very responsive to the complaints of my previous review and experience. The owner (and manager) reached out and asked me to let them know when I next visited. But I came incognito so my experience and review update would accurately reflect a normal visit. It was also a different time of day, day of week, and with a different staff, so I wouldn't be recognized. On all my visits the staff have been very friendly and welcoming, and I think today's trip was more representative of what 1920 has to offer. read more
