First Choice has serviced my 40 yr old house at least 6 times over the years. Three have been for major jobs. We had a broken water main under the floor and First Choice installed new lines through the ceilings and walls. Another time they installed a home water HALO filtration system. We also had an upstairs bathroom remodeled that had two sinks and a big cabinet replaced. There was also the kitchen waste disposal that needed replaced, and of course the usual broken garden faucets. Michael, Matthew and their whole crew have done great work. I really like working with a local Oceanside company that I can trust and help keep in the community. And BTW, their prices have always been reasonable! read more

Matt with First Choice has been a great find. We had trouble with our furnace after a bout of roofing. He found the mis-sized exhaust cap, changed the filter and we had heat again. Unprofessional. We call for an emergency service because our drain flooded behind our washing machine. Thinking that he would come in knowledgeable. Comes in with boots all over our carpet in and out, made marks on our white walls when he was carrying stuff up the stairs. Basically during the whole process, he has my husband help him through it all. My husband was doing his job pretty much - moving the washer and out when they told us they had their own dollys on the phone. He had my husband turn on and off the water running up and down the stairs. My husband basically was his coworker. And we knew the minimum was going to be $300 flat. When my husband and him wiped all the water out, the last step was to have my husband turn the water on and the guy told him he doesn't have to turn it off it would be good to go. He turns it on and then the nozzle top on the pipe bursted and water went everywhere and he was yelling to turn it off. So all of that work of them cleaning up the water, back to square one. The guy told my husband he didn't know what happened and that he doesn't work with these types of pipes. And that he can come back tomorrow and try to fix it but it'd be another charge and that we would have to replace the whole thing. WE PAID $300 for half ass labor and we didn't even get it fixed. RIDICULOUS. We ended up going with another plumber the next day. This guy WAY BETTER. Comes in with booties automatically, way more communicative and confidentially fixing the issue which he knew exactly how to fix the bursted pipe. We didn't have to replace the whole box like the other guy said, we just needed to replace this small piece that held the nozzle on the pipe. I wish we could get our money back from this company... but it is what it is. I do not recommend this company. Not sure why they got good reviews. read more

Yes I am a returning customer. Replaced all the valves in the house and then Matt noticed that I had to replace the piping underneath the bathroom sinks/drain line as well. Im sure the questions is why again did I choose 1st Choice? I've lived in my house for almost 13 years, I had a plumber come and check the master bedroom shower because it was clogging a lot. They snaked it and told me there's nothing wrong, paid them. Next plumber, my regulator was leaking called another plumber to check on it and all he did was tighten it which I could have done myself but didn't know nothing about plumbing and paid them almost the price of replacing it. Next plumber, yes a 3rd one replaced the water heater but didn't properly fix the flue vent but guess who noticed it was out of place... Matt. Wish I could give 0 stars. 1st Choice Plumbing had previously snaked our kitchen mainline as we were experiencing backup. They recommended hydro-jetting in the future. We scheduled an appointment for 10/10/18 at 8:30am for hydro-jetting. 10/10/18 at 8:15am: 15 minutes before they are supposed to arrive, get a call from them that they need to reschedule. They called me instead of my husband who made the appointment. Husband speaks to them and they said the hydro-jetting machine is in the shop and won't be ready until the following week so they come out and snake the line and charge full price. 10/10/18 at 11:15am: Sink is backing up again already right after the plumber leaves so he comes back out in the afternoon to snake again. Within a few weeks, we are having issues again. 11/23/2018: Call to schedule hydro-jetting. They say they can do it same day at 4pm then they call back a few minutes later to say they can't do it same day and will discount the service based on what we've already paid for the snaking. We schedule an appointment for 12/8/2018 at 10am as that is the earliest availability that works out. 12/8/2018 at 10am: No one shows up 12/8/2018 at 10:15am: Call 1st Choice, no answer, leave message 12/8/2018: Send company Facebook messages, call (now the mailbox is full), leave messages, call again and again, no response. 12/10/2018: Husband calls and they were apologetic saying someone should have called and let us know they hydro-jetter was "in the shop" again and that's why they ghosted us. Make one final appointment for the afternoon of 12/12/2018 which leads us to today.... We call this morning to confirm the appointment that was made for "this afternoon" and ask if we can get a narrowed down time of arrival. Company confirms our appointment and says it can probably even be earlier and will call us back. They call back a few minutes later and GUESS WHAT? They're freaking hydro-jetting machine isn't working AGAIN! At this point, we just ask for a refund and are trying to contact other plumbers. They said they'd call back about the refund but I have zero confidence in them to even be able to do that. read more

We were referred to Michael at 1st Choice Plumbing through another contractor that we had good experience with, Hector at First Choice Tiling. (They are unrelated.) I kind of laughed and thought, there's no way these companies could really be 1st choice, right? But in fact they are. Michael came out and assessed the plumbing work for a master bath remodel. He was on time for the estimate and gave me a quote soon after and explained upfront that if certain conditions existed when they demolished the existing drywall, additional costs might be incurred. After demo, we learned (as Michael warned us) that certain plumbing needed to be rerouted in our older home. The additional costs were reasonable and within the range of what Michael estimated. Michael handled both rough in and finish plumbing. He was patient and attentive to certain things we wanted done a particular way, e.g., the exact location of some of our fixtures. As all projects do, we ran into a glitch. At first I worried that it would be major. Once Michael diagnosed the error, he was prompt in taking steps to make it right. I think the sign of good contractor is not only how they perform when everything works perfectly, but how they perform when things don't. Cannot believe how some people can stay in business - 2 weeks ago we had the plumber (Michael) show up to take a look at our 2 leaks in the bathroom. After he looked it over, he said that he would have to order the parts that could come in as early as Sunday and he should be back Monday to finish the job. We called on Monday to find out status of work to be done and was told that Michael was off on Monday. We waited to hear from Michael on Tuesday, Wednesday, etc... Finally, we called to ask for a status after 2 weeks and no one knows where Michael is or what he ordered, if anything. No solution was offered, so we had to go somewhere else after this very poor follow up for communication and waste of time. It's a shame, cause looking at these other reviews you would think these guys were great, not in my experience... I'll be sharing this with my neighborhood watch as well, very bad. read more

The carbon monoxide alarm had gone off in my house so I figured that I needed someone to inspect my central heating system. I contacted 1st choice plumbing to do it since they had good reviews on yelp. A "technician" came out to my house for the service call and I told him what happened and he asked to see the heater. After I turned it on, he looked at the flame for a few seconds and told me that the heat exchange was cracked and that it would need to be replaced. He told me that I was better off installing a new unit rather than replacing the heat exchange due to costs and that they would be happy to offer a discount on such a replacement. He then charged me $79 for the inspection. I then ceased using the heater at all. A day or two later the alarm went off again. After further research into carbon monoxide causes, I discovered that SDGE does CO inspections for free! (I probably should've known or guessed that.) Anyways, I arranged for an inspection and a real technician came to my home with several sensors and sets of equipment. He took a reading of the CO levels, then asked me to turn on every single gas appliance. After everything running for a while, he took a reading with his sensor in every room of the house and even put the sensor into the flame of the heat exchange. He only found negligible levels of CO (3 ppm being the highest) and nothing near what should have set the alarm off. He said that the home/appliances were safe for use and that it was probably a faulty alarm (it was over 5 yrs old). The more I've thought about this, the more it has angered me just seeing the difference. It's just like a shady mechanic who eyeballs your car and then recommends all sorts of expensive repairs that are completely unnecessary! I'll be posting this review elsewhere - consumers beware!!! UPDATE: A couple weeks ago, a manager from 1st Choice called me after reading my review. She apologized for my experience with their company and let me know that incidentally the inspector that came to my house had been let go. She also said that the inspection I experienced was not their company standard. I then received a check in the mail for $79 refunding the cost of the inspection. Previously, I had rated them 1 star but have since upgraded it considering their concern for customer satisfaction. read more

Another "AMAZING" job done by the "1st Choice Plumbing & Restoration Team" my company couldn't be more pleased. We had a leak in the upstairs restroom which had slowly seeped through the flooring for weeks and we did not notice. Then one day I noticed water dripping from AC vent into our cubical working area.. along with a large drywall area.. I immediately called 1st Choice Plumbing, they did such an awesome job with my home, I knew I could trust them with my company. Matthew & Michael came immediately found the issue, shut off the water supply lines. They then returned that evening once all employees had left. (They didn't disturb anyone's working environment, amazing!) Their Flood & Restoration division came in and removed all restroom equipment, pulled up the floors ... which were warped, water damaged and set their equipment. Along with that process upstairs they then had to cut a significantly large hole downstairs in our (work area) ceiling to repair the leak and water damaged dry wall. Need I say not a drop of dust was left... I was in shock everything was taken care of that SAME DAY. Thankfully we noticed leak on a Friday so their restoration equipment could sit over the weekend and disinfect/dry the effected areas. Monday at 5pm their restoration team came in and picked up the equipment and their drywall guys were also there ready to patch the hole in our ceiling! (Not to mention they even repaired a poorly done drywall patch by a previous contractor.) Great service! Their tile guys came Saturday AM to complete the tile and last but not least Matthew and his plumbing team came Sunday to set the bathroom and complete the job! I had a supply line break in a third floor bathroom of my condo during the night and in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown. It did major damage to both bathrooms on that floor as well as the kitchen underneath on the second floor. I had previously used 1st Choice for some minor plumbing issues and to install a new furnace in the past and was very pleased with them. After an early morning call to 1st Choice, Matthew was here within an hour armed with the tools he needed to quickly mitigate the immediate water damage and begin the drying out process. His crew was fully masked up and worked efficiently while Matt helped me with next steps. I decided to jump in and do a complete remodel using his construction company. I was able to move out and let Matt, using all of his specialists, do a complete demolition and rebuild of the kitchen and 2 1/2 baths and remodel of the rest with minimal contacts, keeping me safe.
