A great place to stop for that after work beer, I met my colleague here and we did exactly that. It's quite dark inside and that's okay. Friendly staff and they definitely had some hustle at slinging drinks. If you were not aware, the 21st Amendment to the US Constitution was the one that repealed Prohibition. Massachusetts was the eighth state to ratify the amendment, on June 26, 1933. Not cheap, but good. A-OK. read more

I was intrigued by the name and history of this place...which is why my family and I decided to try it. The establishment was out of most of their beers, which we looked forward to having...but settled on one they did have, and made it work. The food was ok, I'd give it a solid 4 stars. We had nachos, pizzas, and fish and chips...all pretty tasty. What really grossed me out, was that at the very end of our time here, I went to use the restroom. While washing my hands, out of a restroom stall walked my waitress, who proceeded out of the restroom without washing hers. I followed her out, only to watch her walk right up to a new table And begin to take their order. Need new staff, one of the worst experience yet. Got there as party of 2, looking to stop by for a drink. At the main bar, we see the bartender cleaning up and tending to bartending duties, except serving the customers. Took more than 7 minutes for him to acknowledge new customers, let alone serving the current ones. Once we got our beers and drank them (about 15 minutes later), we decided to leave. No way to leave, we are unable to get the bill, no one is available at the bar. The same bartender makes eye contact with us at some point, we ask for the check and (A) asks us to wait and (B) says it's [her] job, her being another bartender we have not met yet. So we wait. After a total of 12 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge our wanted departure, our party went to the end of the bar to a waitress and asked for the bill. The (new) bartender then comes over with our checks, apologizes, and only accepts a $20 bill, hinting that tip is not needed, seeing the service we had. Let's be clear, the bar section was well staffed. Both bartenders were there the whole time, but not serving parched and hungry customers. While I appreciate the last step regarding the bill, I won't be going back to this establishment. Confusing experience. read more

Popped into here for drinks on a Sunday afternoon. Kind of a dark spot I presumed to be more for regulars than visitors. Bartender was nice and made a good Moscow mule. Super Cute bar tucked in the middle of Bowdoin Street. Katelyn made a category 5 dark and stormy for us. Ask about her. Her as in Katelyn and the dark and stormy. The bar is extra full and the cocktails are made perfectly. We were on a liquid diet at the time but will be back to try the Lobster, whatever the soup of the day is and one of their Tavern Pizza's. Okay, this is an odd place. Set in the basement of an apartment building across from the Massachusetts State House this bar gives off an anachronistic sensibility without thrilling. The paster and timber beam ceiling is visually appealing as you sip your cocktail or local beer. This spot has tons of potential and in such a great spot but the tableau is incomplete. Although beautifully appointed the bar is somewhat lacking in the kind of variety you might expect for the price AND the plastic menus give off a cheap diner vibe that, although inconsistent with the pretty decent food, cannot really be forgotten while dining. Stopped in her last night (during a severe thunderstorm) to have a beer and some nachos. The beers were great but unfortunately they were running out of almost everything! It's a very cozy bar with a very New England feel with the wooden tables and brick walls. The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they were out of two of the seasonal beverages we wanted. One of them they simply misplaced the syrup and couldn't find it. We stopped here twice during our trip to Boston. We stumbled on it by accident the first time, and the second time it was the first stop on a haunted bar crawl tour. This is an old bar with a hometown feel. There's a small seasonal cocktail menu that we got drinks from and enjoyed. During our second visit we grabbed food which was good. The food menu is more extensive than I expected for a small bar and the food was better than I expected too. The bartenders and the waitress were super friendly and patient. Our waitress was busy but made sure we were taken care of regardless. Apparently this was a gentlemen only bar back in the day and it has that feel to it. Especially evident when you go to the women's restroom which was definitely added on after the fact. You almost feel like you're walking into the kitchen to hit the bathroom. I think it adds to the charm and history of the place. We enjoyed both stops here. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Such a great spot! I've never needed a reservation here, I've just been able to walk in and get a table no problem. It's very dark/small inside, but it's an extremely cozy pub vibe! The staff is super attentive and friendly. I highly recommend getting the loaded nachos, they are HUGE and to die for.
