So good! From the staff to the service to the views. My husband and I have had the pleasure of dining here twice and both times have been fantastic, first with a large group and second just us. The food is truly delicious, we highly recommend the crab cakes and chowder. We also shared the New York strip with some sides and our server was very accommodating, having the kitchen slice the steak for us and setting us up nicely for a family style dinner. I will say the sides were not as good as the apps and the delicious steak but not bad, just more average. We had the Brussels and potato gratin. Or sit indoors in the restaurant that looks like a stately but cozy home in some areas. We sat upstairs in area that was dark with lots of wood furniture. For some reason my flash was not working and only one of my pictures came out. 16 year old and I shared a bunch of items: Cavatelli Seared Scallops Mixed Seafood Grill Honestly, I thought the cavatelli was the best item. The dish was really bright and light. Both the cavatelli and scallops were starters. With the mixed seafood grill, there was plenty of food. The scallops were good. They were not too salty, which I usually my complaint with scallops. The mixed grill was good but kind of boring. Everyone was good at 22 Bowen's but nothing really wowed me. The menu was not very exciting, staying with mostly tried and true meat and seafood dishes. . This is a cool location that has outdoor seating on the wharf. Prices are just like everything around it and the food was pretty good. They give lots of lobster in your role, and the oysters available that day were really good. Clam Chowder was more liquidy which isn't my favorite and I don't remember they're being that much clam. We dine here each time we visit Newport and it never disappoints. We were greeted right away, seated and introduce to our server Scott. He was very courteous and his recommendations were spot on. The mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were amazing! The flavor of creamed spinach was different and delicious at the same time. My center cut filet was perfection. The food, the setting by the pier, the service. Everything was perfect last time we dined at the "22". They have a small parking lot right next to the restaurant, so we got a nice parking spot close to the door. The restaurant validates parking, so that is very convenient. The food was outstanding. All the steaks were cooked perfectly according to each diner's request. I loved the steak with pepper coating, it was wonderful. Our friend Susan got the Seafood Newburg and she said it was the best one she's had in a long time. All the sides were perfect as well, we loved the green beans and the mac and cheese. Outstanding service and incredible food! What a setting on the water with huge sailboats on view only a few feet away! We had impeccable Little Necks, so fresh and iced perfectly, and we had a dozen oysters which were not large, but so full of flavor that they are going to be memorable and finally, we shared a 3-pound lobster which was beyond the realm of sweet, plump, and juicy! Came here for a family lunch! Our waiter came over very excited and seems to be super knowledgeable about the menu. The place was right in the wharf so it was a fun vibe. We were sitting inside so we didn't get much people watching! We placed a drink order and began to look at menu. Sodas and teas came quickly but our cocktails took a bit longer. We placed our order for appetizers and then our mains shortly after. The service was SLOWWWWW. We waiting close to 45 maybe an hour till our mains came out. We luckily didn't have much to get to, but it was still shocking. Everyone at the table, besides myself, ordered cold lobster rolls, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. It was a busy Saturday, but there were still lots of empty tables around us. Despite the service, the food was great. The lobster roll was very lemony which I love. Stopped here for our last meal of our trip and I have mixed feelings. Julie our waitress was top notch, she made sure we had everything we wanted and that we had a great experience throughout our evening. I had the NY strip and it was an average steak, can't say it was anything specially, could definitely do better on my grill at home. My wife had the Salmon which she absolutely loved! Place is a little tight, luckily we sat outside because I'm not sure how easy it would have been for my wife to get her wheelchair through the place. Do not expect to go here for a cheap night however for the two of us, no appetizers or desserts and only two drinks our bill was $144! Recently enjoyed a meal with a group at Bowen's. The Bowen's Wharf area is a nice spot to while away some time, and 22B is a good spot to dine while you're in the area. Service was consistent, friendly, and informed -- very good. Our assortment of appetizers was quite good, with the bacon-wrapped oysters being a particular favorite. My clam chowder was outstanding both in texture and taste -- even in summer, it hit the spot. Honestly, my entree was the least exciting part of the meal. I opted for the Petite Filet Surf & Turf. The grilled shrimp were well cooked, but lacked much personality or flavor. The filet was good, but I found it slightly disappointing. Others made much more positive comments, however, so take that for what it's worth. Accompanying asparagus was well done, but the mashed potatoes were -- again, somewhat boring. Dessert was another win -- my Malted Chocolate Espresso cake was fantastic. Worth every calorie. I'm not necessarily a chocolate cake freak, but this one is very good. While I had a bit of a disappointment with my entree, we'd absolutely try 22B again. read more

Last year this restaurant was such a pleasant surprise because they had an EXCELLENT vegan option. This year I was so disappointed that there was literally not a single thing I could order unless I wanted a plain bed of arugula. The waiter did not even try to go to the kitchen to see if they could make anything for me (a level of service I would expect from this kind of restaurant). This place Is right on the water and has amazing night life. We went for dinner without reservations but were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar. We got the wagu dumplings as an appetizer and these were really good. Then for dinner we split the NY strip. My recommendations is try the different sauces on the menu, they were amazing! Our server, however, was very inattentive. We sat with empty cocktails and nearly empty water glasses for long periods of time before he reappeared in the dining room. Don't let the price frighten you away, it's soooooo worth it! Make a reservation, they have inside, outside (shade and non shaded outside) seating. Our server was pretty awesome and very helpful. Ordered the New York sirloin ( a butter sauce comes on the side they have a few diff options), asparagus, Mac and cheese, and ratatouille. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beyond expectations. The sides are big enough to share and we got bread and butter before the food. We sat outside in the shade and enjoyed the live music from somewhere behind us. I never saw the inside of the restaurant but I can only imagine it being beautiful. Give this place a try if you're in the area!! read more

We were disappointed by Bowens. The food was ok, but not great. It came out a bit cold and quite slow. Spices were rather bland and none of the menu was 'special'. The wine list was average and quite expensive, although they did have a Cab Franc which was affordable and uncommon. It was very noisy. I was not impressed with either the hosts or the serving staff, who all seemed to just be putting in their time until they could go home. 22 Bowen's is the most sophisticated of the Newport Restaurant Group family of eateries, and one of my favorites. Since it's quite pricy, I don't get to come here as often as I'd like (#millennialbudget), but when I do get the chance to dine here, it's always delightful. Today's lunch was mostly wonderful, with a few bumps along the way that were quickly remedied by the fantastically kind and attentive staff. The restaurant has prime real estate on Bowen's Wharf, situated directly across from the harbor, with excellent views of the water and the boats coming in and out of port. Inside, there's plenty of seating at comfortable tables spread out over two levels. The design pays homage to the yachting history of Newport, and has many nautical details, handsome brass fixtures, and vintage prints of sailing voyages past. Ultimately, it's a high-end steakhouse with a seafaring twist - picture Del Frisco's-on-vacation. 22 Bowen's can definitely fill up on summer afternoons and evenings, so if you're in town during the winter, take advantage of the calm of the colder months, and come here for a relaxed meal away from the scads of tourists who flock here like seagulls to french fries in the high season. Cuisine - while expensive - is delicious, and when we lunched here today, they were offering brunch options as well, even though it was Friday afternoon. I started off with a delightful Citrus Salad, which was the highlight of my meal, and featured juicy wedges of grapefruit, orange, and blood orange tossed in a sweet melange of honey and mint. The plating was gorgeous, and it's going to be featured on my foodie Instagram soon enough! We also got a complimentary bread basket with hot rolls and creamy butter. I especially loved the cranberry bread! Perfect for the season. My entree choice was the Vegetable Omelet, which was good because I was hungry, but definitely something I could have made at home. I was starving, so I ate it, but I'll probably pick something different next time. My grandparents initially both did not enjoy their entrees - an overcooked steak and a dry baked stuffed lobster - but our attentive server, Adam, remedied the situation by replacing the less than perfect food, and they were very grateful. Thank you so much to Adam, and also manager Svetlana, who handled the situation with grace and excellent customer service. 22 Bowen's goes above and beyond to make sure diners are happy, and that could not have been more apparent this afternoon. We went to 22 Bowen's for a Sunday lunch after visiting the Marble House. A nearby restaurant had an hour wait so we stumbled into this restaurant and were not disappointed! Our waiter, Scott, was kind and attentive. I got the 22B burger and my boyfriend got the lobster roll. I wasn't as impressed with 22 Bowen's as I would have liked. We waited for a long time for everything-to be greeted, get menus (which ended up being for the wrong time so we had to wait to get the new ones), waited at least 40 minutes to get our food, and again, to get our check. This ended up being almost 3 hours to get dinner. The food itself was okay (my fiancé liked it more than I did). The artichoke dip was actually REALLY good and was the highlight out of all of the food. The drinks were also amazing and clearly memorable. I would go again just for the dip and drinks. The view from inside was nice but it just reminded me of a upscale Marie Calendars with a bayside view. I wasn't impressed. A great steak house in the heart of Newport. Bustling with wait staff moving plates out to the dining room. Busy atmosphere, not noisy. All of the entrees look amazing. We sat by the kitchen, which I prefer. I had an oyster special which had caviar and a light vinegar finish, excellent. My wife had the onion soup, very good. This week I had the most amazing dining experience in my many visits to Newport. I ordered a filet mignon with a bordelaise sauce, mashed potatoes, and haricots verts. The steak melted in my mouth, the bordelaise was beautifully flavored, and the sides were perfect compliments. The service was impeccable - attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant got rather noisy after 6 PM on a Wednesday night, but that's to be expected during high season in Newport. 22 Bowen's is $$$$, but a perfect choice for a special event because the food and service are outstanding. read more
