Last night my mother and I took my brother out for the first of his many birthday dinners this weekend. I'm so happy we started off with one of my favorite places. This was my brother's first time and he kept saying I'm definitely coming back. Our waiter Manny was amazing, very knowledgeable of the menu, attentive, and had the best personality. I was also very thankful for Olivia who was able to accommodate my half hour change to my reservation the day before even though it wasn't available through the open table app. This restaurant never disappoints and goes above and beyond to accommodate within reason. A stuffy old money seaport steakhouse that lacks gusto when serving the basics. I got the harvest salad and a French onion soup. Both are good but nothing special. The salad felt like it came straight it if the bag with nothing grown local or fresh. The french onion soup was textbook execution, with globs of melted cheese on top. I thought the onion broth could have had more body, but its still satisfying. My friend wasn't impressed with the tbone steak he had. He did really enjoy his Caesar salad though. I didn't bother eating any of his steak because I was already full. But from what he told me, it wasn't booming in flavor, nor had a juicy interior. Our server was pretty absent. After we finished our meal, our waiter disappeared for at least 20 minutes. Granted it was the final hour before closing and it was a Wednesday, but I would expect more prompt service in order for us to leave. read more

This place has a wonderful ambiance! Fine dining at its finest. Wonderful quiet music, crystal glassware, great food. One thing keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating, that's the waiter. He was nice, but could have visited our table more often. Being that this was our first time visiting Rhode Island and this restaurant he could have recommended different foods for us to try. I had such high expectations, however, as 22 and 23 year olds eating at a nice restaurant, it is unfortunate the way our waiter treated us. We weren't even read the specials, but heard our waiter read them to several other tables and he wasn't genuinely nice until the later part of our meal. We went for restaurant week and truly the best part of our meal was the butterscotch creme brûlée dessert. The steak was not cooked to my asking, and was sour, and the duck entree was the driest and saltiest duck I have ever eaten in my life (i literally was trying to chew it in my mouth for minutes). The bone marrow was good, but nothing out of this world. I had such high hopes for this restaurant but, was really disappointed. This place was our introduction to Newport dining and boy did it set the bar high. Earliest reservation we could get on this Monday night was 9:30pm but when we arrived at around 9:15 there were empty tables. The service was spectacular and honestly as good as you can hope service would be at a restaurant. Our waiter was warm, friendly, and chatty. We were seated indoors but despite this still had a nice view of the wharf somewhat limited by the darkness at the hour. We both ordered beverages but for the life of me I cannot remember what I ordered. I think they're fucking with me with their online cocktail menu because nothing looks remotely familiar. You're probably more interested in the food anyway and don't hold your breath because I'm a vegetarian. You've read this far so you might as well finish to the end. GF, however, can deep throat seafood all day and this was her birthday dinner so she celebrated by ordering the Chilled New England Shellfish Sampler all for herself. Lmao, they literally brought out two plates and 2 towels because I guess no one in their right mind has the balls to do that. This broad knocked back a whole lobster, 4 oysters, 4 clams, and 2/4 shrimp. I thought for $50 this was a good deal but I am also seeing on the menu $100 so only god knows what we paid for GF's appetizer. GF was just getting fucking started because she proceeded to share the rest of what we ordered with me: Corn & Summer Squash Risotto: DELICIOUS. The risotto was light and decadent like the way you expect risotto to be. It is flavored with pesto and a hard cheese that provides a lil saltiness and it is to die. One of the Salads on the Menu: I can't remember whether we got the field greens or the green goddess salad. The photo I have appears to be a hybrid of the two, baby kale as the green but with the croutons mentioned on the menu for the green goddess. Either way, the salad was super tasty and provided some much needed roughage for the ol' gut. Roasted Asparagus: seasoned nicely with citrus butter and grana padano aka parmesan-like cheese and you really can never go wrong with that. More roughage. Truffle Mac & Cheese: al dente noodles. cheesy heaven. truffle flavor for those that like that shit. Can you tell I'm running out of steam here? We ordered the carrot cake for dessert to top off GF's birthday and our server kindly included a few scoops of vanilla ice cream without us ordering it and I saw this on the bill and was initially pissed but he said they took the dessert off the bill as a birthday treat! How fucking sweet?!?! We couldn't have asked for a better spot to celebrate GF's birthday. read more

We have been coming here every year for the past decade almost. Their cuts are always cooked perfectly and most recently, they added more premium wagyu cuts to their menu. My husband still go for their delmonico and I always go for their rack or lamb. We also tried their oysters on special for the day plus truffle fries. Let me tell you, it's legit truffle fries and not just truffle oil on some fries. You see shavings and the manager also said its one of his fav. Too bad I didn't get his name but when he brought over our food, he was very warm and welcoming. Hope to see you each year! We didn't have room for dessert like every other time, so no recommendations. Overall, never disappoints. It's not overrated for us even if they are more on the higher end/classy than the other restaurants in the area. So good! From the staff to the service to the views. My husband and I have had the pleasure of dining here twice and both times have been fantastic, first with a large group and second just us. The food is truly delicious, we highly recommend the crab cakes and chowder. We also shared the New York strip with some sides and our server was very accommodating, having the kitchen slice the steak for us and setting us up nicely for a family style dinner. I will say the sides were not as good as the apps and the delicious steak but not bad, just more average. We had the Brussels and potato gratin. The brussels could have been cooked a little while longer. Overall a fantastic experience and we can't wait to come back. read more

However, the food was lacking. The hot buttered lobsters rolls that were $34 each were beyond dry, zero flavor and the worst we have had. Very disappointing. We can get much better ones for where we live for $10 cheaper easy!!!! The calamari was very good as well as the clam Chowder. But can't give 4 stars when the star was not good at all! So 3 it is! Def worth checking out, but just DO NOT WASTE your $34 on the lobster rolls . That's for sure . We will go back and maybe raise the star if the other dishes don't let us down like the loaner roll did. Wish we could have that $100 plus back lol. read more

What an amazing place on the Newport waterfront to have some food! Location is fabulous and has big windows to see the boats and sunset. We ordered lobster rolls bc yum! And New England. They were able to make mine gluten free with a decent bun. I wish it had been buttered and toasted, but I'm sure with cross contamination that's a bad plan. It was tasty nonetheless. I had a salad instead of fries. Overall a healthy meal in a beautiful place. Service was prompt and nice enough. We were surrounded by families with young kids, but it didn't feel like we were in a McDonald's. If you're looking for a delicious, higher end meal, this is for you. read more

I visited recently with friends who were looking for a pre-dinner cocktail around 5PM. While there were plenty of tables outside overlooking the water, we were told we needed to order food if we planned on sitting there. Alrighty. I started with a mojito, which was perfectly fine and then we proceeded to order the calamari and the chilled New England shellfish sampler. The calamari, served with a three-pepper mint relish, was tasty, not too oily, and came with plenty of tentacles (my favorite). The shellfish sampler was more than enough food for 4 people. 8 oysters, 8 littlenecks, 8 shrimp, and 2 whole lobsters. At $109, this was a surprisingly great deal. Everything was fresh and delicious and we were so full that what started as pre-dinner drinks and snacks quickly became dinner. I'd definitely recommend 22 Bowen's if you're down in Newport and looking for some classic Rhode Island fare with a view! read more

This place came to me highly recommended by a local. Since Newport is a beach town, a lot was closed but this place was bustling and welcomed us with warmth and good vibes. My experience was what I expected, great seafood (at a pretty penny of course) and great views! It's right on the water and we sat on the second floor overlooking a ship and the water. We were by a fireplace which saved me!! (It was cold!) We ordered oysters and shrimp as an appetizer and they were good! I'm not a big oyster person personally and actually enjoyed them. That really speaks to how good they were! We then had clam chowder and salad for our main course which hit the spot. A must have when on the East Coast and the freshness of the seafood is noticed here for sure. Our service was average. They had forgotten to place my friends drink order and it took a bit of reminding to get that out. We were there in the afternoon for lunch so it was likely just that the bar scene is slower, but still, for the quality of the restaurant that was our only disappointment. The prices are up there and it wasn't exactly bursting at the seams for a lunch rush so the service hiccups were noticed, which leads to why I rated 4/5. The ambiance is truly wonderful though! Would recommend overall, especially given that the winter season tends to make some of the places close early or for the season. read more

They give lots of lobster in your role, and the oysters available that day were really good. Clam Chowder was more liquidy which isn't my favorite and I don't remember they're being that much clam. Or sit indoors in the restaurant that looks like a stately but cozy home in some areas. We sat upstairs in area that was dark with lots of wood furniture. For some reason my flash was not working and only one of my pictures came out. 16 year old and I shared a bunch of items: Cavatelli Seared Scallops Mixed Seafood Grill Honestly, I thought the cavatelli was the best item. The dish was really bright and light. Both the cavatelli and scallops were starters. With the mixed seafood grill, there was plenty of food. The scallops were good. They were not too salty, which I usually my complaint with scallops. The mixed grill was good but kind of boring. Everyone was good at 22 Bowen's but nothing really wowed me. The menu was not very exciting, staying with mostly tried and true meat and seafood dishes. . Also, it took a while for our food to arrive. 22 Bowen's is a good place if you like food more on the traditional side and you welcome a long drawn out dinner with friends. read more

Came here for a family lunch! Our waiter came over very excited and seems to be super knowledgeable about the menu. The place was right in the wharf so it was a fun vibe. We were sitting inside so we didn't get much people watching! We placed a drink order and began to look at menu. Sodas and teas came quickly but our cocktails took a bit longer. We placed our order for appetizers and then our mains shortly after. The service was SLOWWWWW. We waiting close to 45 maybe an hour till our mains came out. We luckily didn't have much to get to, but it was still shocking. Everyone at the table, besides myself, ordered cold lobster rolls, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. It was a busy Saturday, but there were still lots of empty tables around us. Despite the service, the food was great. The lobster roll was very lemony which I love. This year I was so disappointed that there was literally not a single thing I could order unless I wanted a plain bed of arugula. The waiter did not even try to go to the kitchen to see if they could make anything for me (a level of service I would expect from this kind of restaurant).
