Another recommendation from our rock climbing guide. We came for Sunday brunch, which has a special menu. This place is tucked away off the main road. You park in a dirt lot and then wander through the pool area to find the restaurant. Service was slow, but friendly. I highly recommend the chicken and biscuits entree off the brunch menu. It's "while supplies last" only and we were told we got the last servings of them right around noon! The meal includes spiced sweet potato biscuits, honey butter, fried chicken and a side. Your side options are potatoes, green chili & cheese grits, black beans, or fruit. I'm always drawn to southern food, since half of my family is from Louisiana, so I chose the grits. Cute restaurant that is part of the 29 Palms Inn. You have to enter through the pool gate, which is just left of their tent. Tent is used for additional dining and reserved parties. It's a very cozy restaurant. We opted to sit inside (because it was cold out), but there are a few tables outside with heaters available overlooking the pool. Live music played towards the end of our meal which was a nice touch!! Just a note, their menu also does change periodically. PARKING: Free! It's on dirt/sanded lot, not a paved. Short walk to the restaurant. COMPLIMENTARY BREAD: Sourdough bread was served prior to our meal. PASTA OF THE DAY: The pasta of the day was a white sauce penne pasta with mushrooms and spinach (sprinkled). I'm not the biggest fan of white cream sauces, so I asked if they can add some marinara to it to make a pink sauce. They were kind enough to accommodate and I enjoyed it. I do wish my pasta sauces were mixed (it came with half white sauce on one side and half marinara on the other) and that the spinach was cooked. Would still get this again. CREAM OF VEGETABLE SOUP: This came complimentary with my order. I really enjoyed this soup and would enjoy ordering this again. CHICKEN PICATTA: This pasta dish came with a sautéed chicken breast over a bed of pasta in a creamy picatta sauce with fresh garlic, lemon and capers. I tried some of my boyfriend's order and it was okay. I personally wouldn't get this just because I have a preference for red sauce. I dined here one night with my husband and sister-in-law while in town to visit Joshua Tree NP. The food was fantastic, as was the ambiance . We started out with excellent warm wheat bread. I have a note about extra cranberry, was it in the bread? I ordered delicious Panko Chicken. The others ordered Ribeye Steak. We received lots of fresh veggies. The asparagus was especially delicious. The jasmine rice was much better than typical restaurant rice. We shared carrot cake which was huge and delicious; the frosting had real cream cheese flavor. This place was absolutely stunning the minute we drove in and the minute we got into our cabin. Something that stood out when we got to the cabin was the strong smell of sage. I immediately addressed this to my partner but didn't think much about it. I just imagined the cleaning crew cleaning the room w gallons of oiled sage. Anyhow we had a wonderful time eating at the restaurant and walking the grounds until something odd n strange occurred around 11-12 pm night. Me n my husband we were laying on the cabin hammock when suddenly something flew or jumped on our hammock that got us to immediately sit up from the hammock. Then after a second or two after that happened we heard a big stump or like if something hopped from our hammock to the other side of the patio door. It was a bit confusing n we were scratching our heads trying to explain what had just had happened. Anyhow as we continued to lay on that hammock we were suddenly aware that there was something on top of the tree overlooking us. I honestly heard like something flapping it's wings. Um the flapping of the wings did not sound normal at all. It sounded like what ever it was it had leather wings because that's the only way I can describe the sound. Then as we were quietly trying to hear and observe, my husband said, "I think we should better go inside. " Later he explained that he heard the thing on the tree growl. Anyways we got up slowly n carefully moved out of the hammock n into the room. Those 2-4 seconds felt so long n scary. And as soon as we went in n locked the door we heard a loud pounding on the door. What ever it was it was letting us know it wanted to come inside. Then I got this strange headache on the right side of my head. Like the right side of my head was getting paralyzed. Something that had never happened to me before. For a split second I thought I was going to die. I was holding my head w agony n suddenly I felt it again on my left side. It was all so strange n scary. My husband suggested we look up 29 palms weird encounters or ghosts. I suggested that we wait till we got home because if I knew what that thing was, I wouldn't be able to sleep and we still had the rest of the night. The night felt so so long. I just didn't feel safe thinking that there was something out there that was not a bird, bobcat or any kind of earth like animal. The thought that came to me was no wonder they added a ton of sage. This ended up being a loooong night of no sleep filled w insects. I actually felt safe surrounded by the insects then what ever was outside. I was still not able to sleep when I got home afraid that whatever it was it was going to come searching for us or me. I found out so many scary scary things about 29 Palms like the skin walker the Sasquatch. Idk what we encountered but unfortunately I don't think it's safe for us to come here again. This is one of the hidden gems of the Mojave Desert. Cool, relaxed vibes, and great food at one of the most fun and eclectic places in Twentynine Palms. Limited seating, but they do take reservations. A lot of their greens come from their on-site garden. Highly recommend this place. read more

To go visit this restaurant and grounds almost once a week we would have dinner as a family and then walk around look at the garden speak to the people. For many years being a local all of our children have taken pictures for prom or school at this location. I feel the locals are the ones that help this business be successful and I'm torn between never returning due to the rudeness of the people who are in charge telling us we had to leave because they had guests on site and we were not welcome. This has never been an issue before I do understand people do come in however we don't fan girl over the world or over people like you may think. We were visiting Twentynine Palms and were looking for a touch fancier spot to enjoy our anniversary and decided upon 29 Palms Inn. They're menu is online but we kept seeing pictures and people mentioning prime rib (which is what I was hankering for) in the Yelp reviews, so decided to go here with the hopes that they might have it but not expecting it. (spoiler: they didn't.) We called to see if we needed reservations and were told that we could or couldn't but no guarantee to be seated if we didn't. So, we went ahead and made reservations for the time when they ended happy hour and began dinner service at 5pm. We arrived at the inn and you walk through the pool area to get to the restaurant. We were a little early but they sat us right away. The service was great. Before we ordered, the server let us know that there was a 20% service fee that was added to the bill that was used to provide fair wages to the staff and anything over that is considered gratuity. Let me preface this by saying that I believe that most servers are underpaid and overworked (especially those who have to work during the pandemic) and I over-tip because I know it's a thankless job. The meals are priced at $22+ (which is fine) but once we get the bill, we're paying a $15 service charge and then a $20 tip on a base $75 bill. Which is crazy. I wonder how many people don't tip because of the service charge? I would much prefer to pay more per meal than have the service fee and then tip the server for their stellar service. Plus the receipt added the service charge as gratuity which is makes it even more confusing. All this to say, please charge more for the meals so that your servers get tipped generously. Onto the food. We ordered the chicken piccata (which the server said was her favorite off the menu), the salmon tzatziki, and the portobello mushroom. The chicken's flavor was great. It had a nice hint of lemon and caper. The linguine was cooked al dente and the chicken breast was dry. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The flavor was on point and it was the best dish of the night. The portobello on first taste was delicious but unfortunately as you ate, the dish got saltier and saltier until it was inedible. The seasonal vegetable were cooked to perfection and were fresh and delicious. All in all, if we're paying this much, every dish should be perfect. We probably wouldn't go back again. read more

Super cheesy restaurant in a run-down inn at the edge of town. Live music attempts to create a more sophisticated atmosphere, but dining is nearly pool-side which makes for a 70's beach boys party instead. We got the feeling that this was the gathering spot of some important city officials, therefore, probably considered fine dining in the little town of 29 Palms. Menu consisted of salad, pasta, main entrees (fish, steak, and chicken), and some specialties (e.g. premium meats). They seem to use quality ingredients some of which are even locally grown. Dishes are a bit up there in pricing. Anything with meat is guaranteed to be $20 and above. I ordered the *Shrimp and Scallops* pasta dish for $28. Sounded like a bit much for pasta, but shrimp and scallops pieces were very plump and generous in number. The sauce was very interesting; it wasn't creamy, but more a purple acidic puree. Dish was very thoughtfully prepared with unique ingredients. Complimentary bread was available although a bit hard. Beer, wine, and specialty cocktails were also on the menu. Specialty cocktails didn't really sound exciting to me though so I opted for beer. Some of the beer is bottled-only with maybe 5 available on tap, so $6 for only 12oz of beer from a local brewery did seem a bit up there. Usually, I can get a pint for that price, especially if it's from a local brewery. Service was prompt although we weren't sure initially if our waiter was being mean, or just joking around. It has a very charming atmosphere as if it's straight out of a movie and what you'd imagine as very, very SoCal (palm trees, mid century American architecture, a pleasant pool). Live music at night. There's a wide selection of decent traditional American food. My friend ordered the rib-eye, I ordered the catch of the day, and my other friend ordered chicken (which was a little underseasoned). I loved the catch of the day -- the fish was delicious, well-flavored. The food is decently priced. Drinks are ridic cheap (maybe coming from SF where I expect to pay $12 per drink). $8! Hell yes, I'll take a palmarita. Maybe two. Waitress was wonderfully nice and very warm. We were seated promptly and treated very well. read more

I should start by saying that we are locals, and used to eat at the Inn every single week. We were so excited to hear that our favorite spot was opening for reservations only. We hadn't been able to enjoy our favorite dishes since pre-pandemic. The food is always incredible and the servers treated us like family. As we ease back into a more normal routine we booked reservations via email, and waited for our date to arrive. We arrived a little early and enjoyed live music and drinks on the patio near the pool until our table was ready. We were seated about 15 minutes after our scheduled reservation time, but we were so happy to be there we didn't mind at all. When we were greeted by server they mentioned they were out of some items on the menu. They took half of our drink orders and then unfortunately they rattled off a list of nearly everything on the menu before racing off. Which left us to figure out what was available. They were out of all seafood except shrimp and fried calamari. They were out of steaks and rice. To this I thought. Well. We're just happy to be here. But surprised to hear they were out of rice?!? We ordered some of what was left on the menu and settled in. The meal came out a little slow, while the servers raced around us practically running. At one point we asked what's with the shortages, to which they replied, "there was a mix up with reservations and now we're serving guests and the public". We thought that was the plan. But we enjoyed the meal we had, and kept it cool. We had to ask for almost everything we needed by hoping the server would race past us just so we could grab them for the basics like more water. I know this special place will improve! We'll give it a try again when they've been at it for a while. Things to consider: - If there were enough shortages in the kitchen that most meals couldn't be prepared. Please tell us when we arrive. Not when we sit down. We would have rescheduled our reservation and tried again. - Only take the reservations you can reasonably supply food for. - Please give your servers more support. They looked stressed and couldn't provide your guests with a good experience. - Waive the 20% service fee if you couldn't provide the service or food you know your guests expect. read more

The service and ambiance are fine, my issue is with the FOOD at 29 Palm Inn. Yesterday I went during their "in between time" of 2:00 to 4:00. Because a local art tour was happening, other diners were there but the place was mostly empty. The burger I ordered was very oddly seasoned. All I could taste was PEPPER, as though a tablespoon had been added to the beef patty. Ugh. And the side salad was a sad wilty thing--a few lettuce leaves from a bag with slices of unripe tasteless tomato. Disappointing. read more

Had one of the best meals I've had all year here. Such a cool little spot. Wednesday night, the music was awesome! The food is expensive, but the portions are decent size which makes up for it a bit. Adding meat to a pasta dish (which I ended up not doing) was like an additional $14 bucks or something, which just seems outrageous to me. We laughed about it at the table for quite a bit and wondered who's ripping them off in the meat department. When the upcharge for a tiny bit of shrimp or chicken is like the cost of an entire additional meal, something's gone terribly wrong. Despite that, the food was incredible, and the laugh we got out of the price was enjoyable, so I gotta give it five stars. We'll definitely be back! We were traveling with a dog and was trying to find a dog friendly place for lunch. Surprisingly, many places said no. Finally, this one has outdoor seating by a hotel pool. It's connected to a hotel. We walked inside and the waitress let us know we can sit wherever and she'd come out. She quickly helped us and took our drink orders. Shortly after, she took our food orders. I order the spicy chicken sandwich with the chipotle mayo and bacon on the side. There was a long wait for food to come but our waitress made sure to keep our drinks filled in the meantime. When we got our food - I was excited to see the chicken. It was fresh and flavorful. Not overly spicy. The bacon was crispy. I definitely enjoyed the food and service here. Afterwards, we walked through the hotel lawn to a small lake, giant old fire place, and cacti all over. We got the Flat Iron and the Shrimp & Scallops pasta. Both were some of the best entrees we had while in the 29 Palms area. Both were full of flavor. The vibe of the place is very low key.
