Food was great 4/5. Service was excellent. They do get busy so definitely gotta be patient and the ambiance is spectacular. I definitely recommend for date night.

No flavor Gorganzola

My daughter made a reservation for my birthday dinner. She requested that we have outdoor seating and away from the live band. Upon our arrival the manager was there up front with the host. Neither one acknowledged us. We stood there for a few minutes before they acknowledged us. We informed her we had a reservation and her tone was extremely unpleasant. I should have taken that as a sign to leave when you're being greeted by the manager that way. They then told us they can sit us indoors in the corner. We just went ahead and agreed because it took us 1.5 hours to get to this restaurant. When the host told us she would sit us, the table was dirty and not wiped down. She then stated she will have someone wipe it down. The tables and chairs were old and cheap. It seems like we were sitting in a small sub shop in the ghetto. I still gave it the benefit of the doubt. When placing our drink orders the server was quick to dismiss us, did not even let us finish our sentence... it just seemed like she was in a rush. The server was also not very attentive. We only saw her when she took our orders and that was it. We ordered the calamari and it had no flavor and it was soggy. The fries were overcooked and as hard as a rock. Our entrees were the steak Gorgonzola, prime rib, chicken Marsala and chicken milenase. The steak Gorgonzola had no flavor. It was very bland, the sauce was very clumpy, and the steak was extremely tough. The prime rib was so tough - my husband had a hard time cutting through it. It was dry and no au-jus was provided. The Cole slaw was bland and very watery. The chicken Marsala had no flavor, the pasta was dry. The chicken milenase was okay. I was so disappointed because the food looked decent - but it was far from that. Overall... the food was not good. It would be a 1/10. The drinks (308 bowl) were watered down and the berry coolatta was all ice (tasted like tap water) The windows were dirty, full of spider webs and it looked like it's never been cleaned, the chairs were uncomfortable, the restaurant was loud (live band didn't start yet) and the workers all looked so unprofessional. They were in booty shorts, showing their inappropriate basement thigh tattoos -- and the list goes on. They did not even try to accommodate to any of our requests when the reservation was made. Oh, and the best part... they set up the live band 1 table away from us as we were eating. We ended up asking for the check and left. We couldn't even finish our meal. It's unfortunate and extra disappointing. We ended up going out to eat at a different restaurant. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience. I would never go back.

Came here with my friend last night and had a nice time! We made a reservation for 5:15 but still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated which I thought was a bit odd, but we were able to order a drink at the bar. We then were seated downstairs in their outside dining area with a beautiful view of the lake. The weather was perfect and had a great view of the water and sunset. The service was pretty slow, but it was a busy Sunday night. Our waiter was good at keeping our drinks full but the food itself took a while to come out and we did not have complex orders. The food itself was just okay. Maybe it was what I ordered, chicken tenders, that didn't do much for me. We got nachos that were decent. They have a lot of seafood options but unfortunately I'm not a fan of seafood. The view was definitely the highlight of this restaurant and I'll probably come back, especially since it's halfway between where my friend and I live.

Very spectacular service. I ordered the Thursday special of shrimp primavera, and it tasted like spring. It was bland but I dig that because it wasn't salty and heavy at all. (I'm on a new eating habit! hahaha) My fiancé got the French sandwich, and that was good! My mom got the fish and chips. We went during the nighttime, so there wasn't much of a view of the lake, but we will probably try again in the afternoon/day time! I'm giving 4 stars because there aren't many restaurants around this area, so I highly recommend! They also don't fry everything and douse their products in cheese to make up for poor flavor, as expected from many American restaurants, so I'll definitely go there again if I'm in town.

Just go you will not be disappointed. Pick a night to watch the sunset with a drink in hand and a beautiful view. The food was great, service was top notch. For sure we will be back.

What a nice place to stop at while going for an afternoon drive. Took my grandmother out for a drive and lunch after I got out of my night shift, haven't eaten anything since 3:30am. No rhyme or reason why I drove out this way, wanted to go somewhere different and quiet. In the past I have always been fascinated with this lake and when I was close enough to jump on yelp to see what was around 308 popped up and I was sold. Lovely view of the lake on a mid-afternoon winter day. Would have loved to had my ice skates and jumped on one of the rinks! The interior has lovely nautical shades of blues and browns, makes the white trim stand out that much more with the sun hitting it. We both ordered chowder and fish & chips (beer battered). The chowder was creamy and the fish was spot on. Chowder could have been thicker (my personal preference) and the fish could have used a bit of flavor other than the lemon. None the less we are both stuffed! I skipped desert, going sweetless this month to reduce the extra sugar from the holiday season.

Excellent food and rustic country restaurant overlooking a lake. It has outside dining options and that is also accessible even by boat.

Hard to rate the food when they can't be bothered to pick up the phone to say their kitchen is too busy or won't accept a reservation.

Is the restaurant open for location dining during this period, or for only take-out? Reservations would, of course, be mandatory.

Maybe with some rugs layed down it would help the noise? The name and the vision inside don't match, nothing really special to see inside. I ordered nachos as my meal last night, they looked yummy but once I started eating i realized that the chips were very toasted from the oven and crispy and any specks of cheese were dried and burned into the chips (see photo). Not until I dug to the bottom did I find any cheese. Really I could have just done that at home. I didn't send it back because my husband & daughters meals were there and they were enjoying and didn't want theirs to become cold. Being our second time trying the restaurant we decided we wouldn't make it a third. The waitstaff were very pleasant and attentive.

Hitchcock Tavern has had its ups and downs (over 265 years in business, it happens). The Tavern is…read morein a small town, with not a lot of big business's or industry nearby, so it's primarily a transient (on a major state route) and local population venue. The town does roll-up the sidewalks at 500pm...so I know it's a tough business wherein to make a few bucks. They upped their menu options a few months back (yeah!) and have altered hours a bit, now opening at 11:30am every day. (also yeah!) The menu is a bit limited (which is not bad; work the interesting offerings, update when needed), but very good. I live local to the HT, and stop in maybe once a month for a lunch or before dinner (I avoid Friday and Saturday, as it can get very noisy in there). Today, my wife and I stopped at 300pm for their smash burgers (2 patties, lettuce, onion, tomato) on a Caprese roll. Great roll for the type of burger. I think they can source better tomatoes, as we are in the middle of a farming area, so summer and fall they should consider local produce and make the slices bigger. French fries were good, but not unique. We ordered a bowl of sweet potato fries as a starter, and they were good. Enough to take home and try with some various cocktail sauces we have. I usually get their edamame dumplings, but they were out. If you order their nachos and cheese, it is a big plate, so be warned. They have a few local craft beers, but it would be nice to see a more expansive list. I understand most locals go for the generic beer basic brands, but still...Plenty of craft brewers in Central Mass. Same with the wine; there is a local winery the next town over (shameless plug: Hardwick Winery) that is quite good, and I'm sure a bit of support both ways would be eventful. We have a local cider grower too, that could pair nicely (shameless plug: Ragged Hill) The pricing on the lunch-time specials make HT an easy option to go to. I know that server staff is tough to get, let alone retain, and I often give a bit more slack in the expectations in that area these days. Our server, Holly, also does early opening bar duty, and she made a great dry martini. And those are tough to make, and so easy to screwup. Thanks, Holly. Parking in the lot can be tough on a busy night, but, plenty of free and safe street parking within a 1-3 minute walk. The Tavern is not a romantic venue, exquisite, nor super-fine dining. It is a reliable, local, historic, restaurant to get a solid meal, a good drink, meet with friends, and relax. They do a great function offering I will say (have used it several times), and I am glad to see changing weekly-monthly specials, holiday meals, and have flights when a new liquor hits the shelf. They now have an outdoor tent for the ending summer and fall nights. So to the owners and chef, keep thinking outside the box, and you'll make this a solid start for your next 265 years.

I don't even like au jus, but it was so good, I would've been happy just to drink it. Who doesn't even smile at a compliment like that? Especially as I later found out she was one of the owners. She should have been over the moon. I'd say it wasn't technically a bad experience, but it also wasn't a good one. Also, it was right at the end of their first open mic and we knew the host personally. You'd think after seeing we knew their entertainment, she could have, at the very least, faked a smile. Kind of her loss as I'm a DJ and could have easily boosted their clientele, but I'm not going to recommend a place that makes it seem like it's a chore to wait on you. Even though she didn't know that, as someone who has also been in the restaurant industry for a large portion of my life, the very first rule of customer service is to make them feel wanted, no matter how you're feeling, and smiling at them is the easiest way to do it. Even if you're only doing it for the tips, being nice to people is one of the easiest things you can do. And being nice to others, will almost always make you feel good in return. It's a win win. As for the ambience, top notch. It's a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and it's not crowded like a lot of other restaurants (meaning the tables are properly spaced and you're not on top of other customers)

I have visited before, but this was my first visit in about six years or so. They have an absolutely enormous selection of alcoholic beverages, but I was only interested in exploring their very impressive selection of craft beer. I don't make it to this area very often, so I was most looking forward to see if they carried anything that's either hard to find or just totally unavailable in my home area of New Haven, Connecticut. I spent maybe a half hour just walking down the aisles and seeing what all of the options were. Afterwards, I was ready to begin shopping. I ended up purchasing a pretty sizable haul which should keep my refrigerator full for a while. Most of the beers I grabbed were rare barrel-aged stouts, but I also picked out a few IPAs and other various styles that no longer get distribution in my home area.
