All the lights need to be turned on manually, and even when they are all on it still seems dark. There are no black out shades....so, boom, you get to wake up to full light...no sleeping in here. Every tithe neighbors close the door it makes a slamming noise that goes straight to your bones. Small television inside a wooden cabinet. The shower has some kind of cheese cloth curtain that absorbs then drops all the water on the ground, leaving puddles behind. The bathroom even has a sign telling you to put a towel on the ground. Long story short, updates are needed. I won't go through all the shortcomings of this place, I'll just say it seems a bit expensive for what you get. On the bright side the reception people are very nice and the morning continental breakfast us good enough. It's within walking distance of local restaurants. Last thing I need to say...don't even look at the hot spa on the side of the building.

There is one main cabin with the kitchen and 3 bedrooms plus two other adjacent cabins just steps away. The main house is fully stocked with all of the necessary cooking accessories (coffeemaker, microwave, great oven/range, dishwasher and even a good coffee maker). There's a large, gas grill on the outside deck that worked great for us. The place has satellite TV in the living area and wifi, too (but don't expect cable modem speeds in such a remote location). At night we spent most of our time hanging out around the fire pit with antelope just yards away. But one of the locations greatest values is that it is a short walk (5 min?) to one of the finest stretches of the Madison river, absolutely beautiful. Diana and David are excellent hosts (albeit, they weren't physically there) who made sure everything was well taken care of. Like this place and these people a lot. We would definitely return!

Step out of the door of the lodge and you'll be in the Madison River in just steps. Perfect for fisherman that want to wade in. They also offer guided float trips on historic river. Ask for Montana Mike, he's the best. Great stories, and a great guide. Lodging stay includes meals (which were incredible) and full beverage offerings. I always like to relax on the riverside Caddis Shack with a scotch on the rocks after a long day on the river. Easy access to the areas other sites. We took a half-day trip into Yellowstone. The west gate is about a half an hour away. Perfect to shoot over and witness Old Faithful. Hebgen and Quake lakes are also on the way and offer up other experiences for Fly Fisherman. Ennis, MT is also about a half hour away. A quaint fishing town that has some fun events throughout the summer and a great local pond that is free for kids to fish. All in all, if you want a great experience in the West Yellowstone area of MT then check out Old Kirby Place. And if the owner Bruce is in town, make sure to ask him for a story or two.

If you do not mind having a gallon jug of milk sitting on the breakfast table and two 1/2 gallons of orange sitting on the table, then Brent is your guy. I do mind. Our second breakfast consisted of steaks that had been sitting on the counter all day and all night. Most people in the party were afraid to eat the steaks. There was no fruit or anything healthy. The third breakfast---oh! Brent never showed up, adults and kids checked out without a breakfast and the Lodge is not convenient where you can go down the street to eat I would NOT recommend The Old Kirby Place. We were told an open bar---never saw an open bar and actually had to ask Brent for drinks. It seems Brent does most of the drinking and the guests are on their own

Wifi in my room was slow in the afternoon and extremely slow in the evening when more guests were present. This is a great place to get some reading done.

At the end of our stay, we knew we wanted to have a home in Paradise Valley, just like theirs. Everything was just so perfect! Their home is nestled in Paradise Valley against the Yellowstone River, very near Mt. Emigrant. We awoke every morning to breathtaking views of the mountains and vibrant yellows and oranges as the trees surrounding their warm, welcoming log cabin began to slowly change colors in the early fall. We would open our door and immediately be overcome with the amazing aromas drifting down from Carol's kitchen. We would go up and be greeted jovially by Carol as she finished cooking breakfast. She would pour us fresh, hot coffee and welcome us to have a seat at the beautifully-decorated table. We would chat with the other couple staying at the B&B, getting to know them. Carol would serve a wonderful breakfast, typically fresh fruit salad of peaches, blackberries, raspberries, and cantaloupe with her homemade dressing, and some sort of hot, sweet casserole: rice pudding, bread pudding, berry crisp, or a pastry. She and Pete would join us as we enjoyed Carol's creations and her fresh orange and banana juice. All of the guests we met loved everything Carol made (including us). They raved about how delicious it was, and sat back to digest, thinking they would rest a while and then start their day of exploring Yellowstone, or head to on their way to one of the parks. But this was no normal B&B. Carol would get up and clear our plates, only to bring back a second course more decadent than the first: pancakes with huckleberry or homemade chokecherry syrup and sausages, Eggs Florentine, or maybe one of her quiches... Carol treated us like royalty. We always had a hard time finishing our meals, but it was never because we didn't want to. It was because we were just too full to eat another bite! Pete and Carol always made sure there was plenty of food, and sometimes insisted we take leftovers with us when we ventured out into the park. Pete always made sure we knew where we were going in Yellowstone. He gave us maps and helped us plot out our trips into the park, telling us the best places to stop and where we would be most likely to see wildlife. Thanks to his recommendations, we have lots of great photographs of a variety of wildlife, and beautiful photos of ourselves in the scenery to remember our honeymoon by. He helped us spend our time the most efficiently, and we can't thank him enough for it. When we returned to the B&B in the evenings, Carol or Holly would usually have an evening treat for us: milkshakes, homemade German Chocolate Cake, or maybe just a glass of wine to top off the day while we sat on the deck to watch the sunset. It was... paradise. Most couples we met had only made a reservation for one night, but fervently expressed that if they had known how wonderful their experience would be, they would have booked a longer stay. We have every intention of going back to Paradise Gateway the next time we take a trip to Yellowstone. With as much attentiveness and care as Pete, Carol, and Holly showed us during our brief time with them, we won't even think about looking to book a night anywhere else.

This was our wedding day and we didn't want to check in at midnight. After learning it was our wedding day the female owner said she would like to give us a gift basket of wines and chocolates, she did and it was very nice. The rental has modern farmhouse look and is on the 2nd floor overlooking the Yellowstone River. The bad. The day after our wedding we still had family in town. That afternoon 5 of our family members wanted to float the river. My wife and I offered to pick them up from their float to bring them back to their car. We all agreed and told them our rental was on the river and nearby. My wife and I went home and rested. They called when they were getting close and my wife went to the shore to wait for them. After getting out of the river my wife and 5 family members went up to my vehicle. At this point, the female owner approached my wife in distress asking what we were doing and who these people were. My wife described the situation but nothing she could say pleased the woman. The woman was furious that we would even consider doing this. She claimed to have called the sheriff, she went on how disrespectful it was to have them get out of the river here. The woman was nothing short of condescending and disrespectful towards my wife. She was patronizing her as she asked a series of personal questions like what my wife did for a living and who her parents were. She told our family to leave immediately even though I was their ride. When my wife asked what she could do to help mend the situation the lady demanded my wife to go get me. Meanwhile, I was inside the rental not knowing what was happening. My wife came in frantic saying we had to leave. We both went out and met the woman. My apology was not taken either. The woman told us to leave the property and that when we come back we better have thought of how to apologize to her. We drove away not believing what just happened. Our friends had exited the river and placed things in my vehicle immediately, not one of them was drunk, no one was belligerent or talking loudly in the least. The time it took them to get from river to vehicle was far less than my wife spent getting lectured without reason. My wife was in tears because she never wants to make anyone upset, nor did we think this was wrong. I decided to drop them all off and return to try to apologize or make amends since we were paying to stay a 2nd night. I texted the woman asking to meet with her, I knocked on the front door, no answer. I waited a minute and saw a man who I assumed, and turned out to be, the male owner of the rental. I told him we upset the female because our family got out of the river here and my wife and I wanted to apologize. He thanked me for apologizing and told me he would talk with the female. He said they sometimes have non-guests get out of the river here and they don't like that. I again apologized and explained that if we'd known we never would have done it. The man was nice and reasonable and that was the last we interacted with them. Summary. If you enjoy a modern farmhouse look with a very earthy feel and you don't do something to upset the female owner you will probably enjoy this rental. My wife and I are very passive people who don't enjoy going out of our way to write 1 star reviews. But the way we were spoken to, in particular my wife, was nothing short of unacceptable and disrespectful. There is little explanation to describe how she was treated.
