This place was such a surpriser! After watching a movie, we we're looking for a Korean barbecue place to grab dinner. However, everyone else was so busy since it was a weekend and there was a big game on. However, we did stumble along this place while searching online and it was a new restaurant that had availability for our group. Deciding to give this chance a try was probably the best possible choice we could make because it was great. They had a really cool ordering system on a tablet with a variety of meat, appetizers, and much more, which all was very fresh as you can see from the photos. The ambience of the restaurant is really cool and new. And for me especially going to a Korean barbecue place one of the biggest things is how the airflow and ventilation is. This place did not disappoint. In addition to having the door open allowing fresh airflow, the machines worked lovely with the grill in front of us. For a table of six also the grill was large and there was enough table space for all of our items and everybody to eat comfortably. Also, for the price it was pretty reasonable. A new Korean BBQ all-you-can-eat spot has opened in Brea. I came here for dinner and this was one of the hottest experiences we had. Their air conditioning wasn't working and the grills were on in front of you. We were literally sweating from the heat that was created by all the BBQs and no air conditioning. The service was fast but I think I would have had a better experience if I hadn't been drenched in sweat. Butcher cut or not- it tasted like cheap quality of meat. We were very surprised at this because we chose their most expensive $50-60 something dollar option. Every single side dish had to be ordered through their screens which was annoying, but at least the restaurant was empty and service was swift. Service was great, but families- I'd beware. Came here during opening and had to wait 15 minutes since they didn't have a butcher?? Kinda weird but decided to wait anyways to try their lunch special menu. The server and the team had good service recovery and were very fast and accommodating when my family and I were seated. Ordering is quick and easy through the table tablet and they had a good amount of choices even with lunch special menu. I really enjoyed their beef belly but the matcha pork belly was more gimmicky than flavorful. Their banchan was also fresh and I had a great meal even though it started off quite odd. Hmm ill be brutally honest. We came in during dinner time on a Sunday night and got seated right away. The service was impeccable because there were only two/three (?) servers but they were all paying attention to details esp when it came to grill change. Im not sure how that would be efficient switching out the type of grills if it was a packed full house. The normal meat quality was bad, and considering we got the pricier menu the selection of wagyu meat was still limited. You ever get that feeling of eating something oily and just feel bad/tired/groggy the whole day? That's how the meat had me leaving. The fire in the grill did not distribute evenly, so be prepared to figure out which side is hotter so you don't end up burning/undercooking. Im sorry but the banchan was really bad it tasted store bought and watered down, cucumber side was so bitter. i think the best things were the matcha salt (it couldve been green tea salt) and sodas cuz they came in a can The restaurant itself was not very well cleaned (oil sticky seats and tables) and im not sure if its due to the fact servers are swamped, the decor was basic in my opinion it looked like they wanted a more modern chic look but overall it came out tacky. Ambiance was alright if you're going there for a date but bathrooms are weird, I could not get over the fact of the blurred bathroom door being infront of the toilet... also, if youre going to have a $47 Aesop hand soap diluted with water at that point just replace with costco hand soap if you want to save $$. My boyfriend, my son, and I love 356. But these last two times have been such a huge disappointment. We went to 356 on 9/14 around 3pm for my boyfriends birthday. It was 4 of us. For some reason they didn't have flat grills as the previous time. It takes 3x as longer to cook on the other grill they have (the one with circular holes) . we order 5 meats and only three came out, cooking those three meats along took 30-40 min. I paid over $190 and it was not worth it. Really disappointed by how they are running this location. Im assuming they are doing this on purpose since they now have a "happy hour" price and ends at 4. After a couple visits to 356, I'm concluding that it's nice to finally have a proper KBBQ in north OC. The quality of the meats here are good- in fact they fresh slice most of the meats including the brisket cha-dohl. Service improved greatly since the first visit and the servers promptly refilled meats and panchan. With any of the 3 AYCE choices, they include Korean soups like kimchi or egg, but I do wish they will include spicy bean paste soup (daenjang) in the future. As for the meats, the rib finger cuts (marinated and non) are my favorites followed by different large steaks like 356. I have visited this location twice since it opened. We chose it for it's Yelp reviews even though it was still fairly new at the time. I have left so happy and full both times. The servers are attentive and friendly and stop by frequently to ask if everyone is ok. The vibe is fun, with upbeat music cool enough for all ages to enjoy. There was nobody there yet as the restaurant wasn't too busy. We ordered our food through their digital screen on the tables. They are friendly user if it's not your first time going. This was our first time and I did make two mistakes on ordering through there. I feel like they just need to walk people a little bit better through them. The food portions were large, and I suggest ordering one plate of what you desired to get an idea of how much food it is. This isn't like another Korean barbecue spot where they make small plates purposely. This place definitely gives you a bang for your buck. So that you do not over order again I highly suggest that you order one plate, and go from there. The service overall was wonderful they were very attentive even after they started to get busy. We went to their soft opening but it was clear that they still have a lot to work on. Pro: - Plenty of parking. Located in the Brea shopping plaza next to On the Hook. - Walked straight in for a Thursday night dinner at 6:15pm with no wait - Friendly service - Extensive menu. There's only one menu but it basically has everything from meats to seafood to sides, including fries, pho, corn cheese, etc. - Aesthetic modern interior, doesn't look like your typical KBBQ restaurant. Though, seats were concrete blocks that couldn't be moved so we were curious about those with shorter legs Cons: - Meats were nicely presented but quality was only decent, nothing special - No dessert options - Bathrooms were one-stall per gender - Service was slow and it seemed like they focused more on the look of the place than training their servers to be thorough in explaining the menu or be on the same page. The worker who seated us didn't even know there was a 10% off soft opening promotion that's going on until the end of the month. They forgot to discount the 10% off on our bill too. - We either kept getting meats that we didn't order and had to send back, or we would have to order the meats we wanted 2-3x before we actually got it. - Different grill tops are used for different cuts of meat. This was inconvenient and obviously not everyone is going to notice that on the menu. We didn't know this until the owner noticed and came to our table and told us we were cooking our beef belly using the wrong grill. The servers who gave us the meat did not tell us. It made sense because there were so many holes and the flames got really big. The covered grill that's used for a majority of the meats was sufficient for us to cook everything. - The rice paper was like a rock stack. It was hard and one of the workers told us to put it on the grill to soften it but it only made it crispy/harder. All in all, I'm glad a KBBQ place opened up here but we will probably not be back, at least not for a while until they work out their kinks. read more
