I went here right before I moved to J-Town. This bar seems to have come from a renovated church as you can still see the stain glass windows. The beer selection was excellent and when I went with some coworkers here we sampled a lot of them. The atmosphere was very relaxed and a bit quiet. We came here because other reviews said it was dog-friendly, and it really is. We thought at first it was only dog-friendly outside, which was a fairly shaded deck of good size between the brewery and a neighboring building. We had parked behind the brewery and saw the deck. My wife checked inside and they said bring him in. That was great. We ended up sitting at one of the high tables and Milo stayed by us on the floor, occasionally aroused by other arriving dogs. We ordered a flight of quite a few beers and enjoyed a pizza delivered by the nearby Bearno's Pizza. That was very tasty. The beers were a bit lightweight (I refer to it as thin, common for emerging breweries), but the flavors were generally pleasing and the atmosphere of the old building (former church I believe), plus an accommodating staff, more than made up for any issues I may have had with the beer that others would undoubtedly disagree with. read more

I love visiting 3rd Turn. If you haven't been, this is a renovated old church. Very comfortable atmosphere with a rustic look on the interior. The beer is mostly good, too heavy on the IPAs in my opinion, but if you are an IPA fan then this would be your cup of tea. For me the lack of any sort of bar food brings my rating down. The addition of food trucks on the most popular nights bring it back up slightly. Overall a very good place to hang out, chat, and have a good glass of beer. read more

Such a fun time last night with friends at third turn...we ate at recbar...but came to third turn afterwards. The atmosphere was very welcoming. We sat on the leather couches in the middle of the room. At one point we decided to play heads up...which was hilarious! I think everyone was watching us...but they were laughing as much as we were. The lily slush was good...since I don't enjoy beer. I was glad that there wasn't a band...and we could all sit and talk and not have to yell over a band or music. The only suggestion we had was to invite a hot dog truck to be the food truck (it was the Celtic pig last night)....there is something about drinking and having a hot dog late at night! read more

I have only been here once, and it is already my new favorite bar. Set up in an old church, from the outside you wouldn't be able to really tell that it is a bar. There is plenty of parking in back and plenty of room inside. Since it's in an old church, it's very open and airy with high ceilings and tall stained glass windows. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back with a few comfy couches and then high top tables. They've got some board games in a small side room and in the back you can look down and see some of their brewing set up. I ordered my own Mudslide slushie and tried some of someone's bourbon slushie. The Mudslide was heavenly mudslide and the bourbon one was surprisingly fruity. Aside from their slushies, they have good looking beer selection if that's your thing. I wish this place was closer to where I live because I would go here all the time! read more

Went for a bike ride in Pope Lick Park. A bee flew into my eye and ran my bike off the path into the creek. I busted up my arm a bit so it was pretty sore. I decided to go to the closest church to pray for healing but lo and behold it was a brewery! I drank their beer and was healed immediately. Highly recommended. This is easily the worst place to go in louisville for beer. If you want my recommendation spend your time at Mile Wide or Gravely. At least there you won't have to deal with the horrible server Jessica...not only did I have to ask for my drinks 4 times but she continuously gave me attitude and acted like she didn't care. If you don't like your job at least pretend you do...maybe you will get better service with another server but if you get Jessica I suggest you just get up and leave. read more

The best brewery to call home in Louisville, KY. A watering hole where everyone knows your name and the owners care about their customers and the community they do business in. The location on Watterson Trail is a renovated church and is absolutely gorgeous. You should also know that 3rd Turn has another location in Crestwood, KY near the Botanical Gardens and Jefferson Artisan Distillery that you must check out. It doesn't hurt that their beer is some of the best you will find anywhere. Reds, stouts, IPA's, bourbon barrel aged... whatever your preference they have it all! If you are not into beer they also have wine, bourbon, and slushies. You can also bring your dogs, and they offer samples of the beers so you can test before you buy. Try 3rd Turn Brewing. I will have to respectfully disagree with the other yelpers on comparing this place to the Holy Grale. Yes, it is in an old church and they serve beer, but it is completely unique in it's own right. 3rd Turn is a brewery itself whereas Holy Grale serves local and non-local beer (good beer, that is). 3rd Turn has a very old nostalgic suburban church feel. My favorite part being that they have the old sign on the side of the building where the time of church services is usually presented. We parked in the back and walked through the outdoor picnic table and garden area into the front where the entrance is located. FYI, there is a back door where people exited but it is not an entrance. The outdoor patio is absolutely lovely and we ended up enjoying it out there. There are shaded parts and unshaded parts which allows one to enjoy it in different weather situations. We walked in and headed to the bar. It is a very spacious building that has high top tables on both sides and a coffee table surrounded by two couches. They have the cozy, homey feeling down. The bathrooms are located in the front as you enter which is always important to note when imbibing at a brewery. We approached the bar and inquired about the 3rd Turn beer. They had six 3rd Turn beers on tap and 14 other beers on tap. Some of the others included Monnik, Evil Twin and a few others I don't recall. As my fiancé and I enjoy local breweries we both stuck to the 3rd Turn choices. I had two of the IPAs and he tried two of the other ones on tap. I absolutely loved the IPA! It was wonderful. I even wanted to get it in a growler; however, as they are still a new brewery they do not allow one to fill a growler with 3rd Turn beer at this time as they are ramping up their inventory. No problem at all as I ended up choosing another IPA that was just as delicious. The beer on tap was $5 a beer and the growler was $15 (I brought my own growler in). A growler to purchase is $5. 3rd Turn also serves cider, wine and bourbon slushies (a few different flavor selections). There was a bit of food you could choose from. I only recall the beer cheese; spicy or non-spicy, but I think they had a few other options. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable of the brewery which I really enjoyed. I love hearing about the opening of new breweries and their strategies on producing new beer, etc. They had a group in the back doing an NFL draft and they also have a variety of board games if that's your jam. I will be back at some point. It's a bit out of my way, but if I am in the area again I'd stop right back in. read more

I went to the turn on Friday 7/29 with my crew. It was a great time. The Mambo food truck was there offering delicious food and the beer was awesome. My wife and one of her friends has a bourbon slushie and a Oaks Lilly slushie. They enjoyed both. I used the experience of the bartender along with my personal type of brew to get 2 beer flights. My personal favorite of the flights was the tin weld pear sour. Soooo good. The folks behind us were celebrating a birthday and the atmosphere was festive.
