Brewery inside old church. Great frozen bourbon drink. They have specials every day and will give u fast if any beer so u can decide. If you let them know what type of beer you typically like, they can make some great suggestions. I liked all three that I tried. The blonde ale was good, the scotch beer was a little stronger and tasted better, but my favorite was #1, the German beer. Bring your own food Friday and Saturday but they also have local food truck parked out front. We tried the Wild Bill Buffalo wrap and pork quesadilla with sea salt fries. They bring your food to your table inside. Fries were hot and crunchy yummy and all food terrific. Dogs are allowed and didn't seem to be a problem despite how crowded. There was a party last night so all tables up front were reserved. I was told that they bought the building next-door where they're going to start having all the events, so they'll be more room for seating. One of the owners found me a seat and said he would look out for something in the front if it becomes available. They're all very nice. Great outdoor space with cute lights to visit with friends, drink and be merry! Great fun place to go out and even though you sometimes have to share a table, it's fun to meet new people. read more

I love trying new breweries! This place is a bit off the beaten path if you aren't hanging around in JTown but driving out here is worth it. Oh, and don't forget to bring your pup with you. 3rd Turn is the absolute BEST place to kick back, enjoy a great local beer, talk to new people and relax. Such an inviting space located in a refurbished church. Hubby and I spent hours on our first visit talking to the owner and learning the history of the building and how much of the current space is original versus new. The stained windows are gorgeous and the areas that are original wood are too! There are two areas indoors as well as an outdoor patio area. Plenty of board games are available for fun with new friends or old. There is no food, but you are encouraged to order from local establishments who deliver and also food trucks are frequently parked right outside! Bringing your own food is totally fine too. Your furry friends are welcome and they add another element to the special vibe of this awesome space. With 20 beers on tap (that rotate weekly) there is something for everyone! If beer is not your choice, they have bourbon and various slushy drinks too! They have some of the best craft beer in the Louisville area and the owners love to talk to you about the brewing experience. Soft leather couches and plenty of tall long tables are in the front room with other tables in the back room. When I have out-of-town visitors this is definitely on my list of places to take them. My fiancé and I have quickly made this spot our regular place when we want a quality beer at a great price. With most pints packing a keen combination of ABV, multiple options of pours, and surprising variety of flavor notes, this is the IDEAL place to bring friends. We don't get out to the J-town area often so when we were finally in the neighborhood we made a beeline to 3rd Turn Brewing. Located in an old church, the interior is simply gorgeous. An open wood ceiling, brick walls, beautiful stained glass, wood tables, cozy leather couches - this place is inviting to say the least. We made our way up to the bar and we were warmly welcomed by the bartender. He went over the menu with us and offered us samples of anything we wanted to try. I was pleasantly surprised to see a selection of their own beers, guest taps, ciders, a gluten-free option, and even a non-alcoholic choice. After chatting with the bartender and sampling a few brews I decided on their Big Ass Amber and my husband went with their Cowboy Coffee brown ale. We took a lap around the inside, noticing a room full of board games, before settling at our table. We chatted it up over our brews and decided that we shouldn't be strangers to the J-town area because we both loved the laid-back vibe and delicious beers that 3rd turn has to offer. This is a great hangout - I could see spending a few hours here with friends, enjoying beers and company over several rounds of cards. The space is amazing. The brewpub is in a 19c church, and they've restored it beautifully (except for the ceiling, which needs work). Spacious, well designed and well decorated interior. I love that they kept most of the original hardwood in tact! If only this place weren't in Jtown! Beer is good. We had the hefegerste and the sacrilegious IPA. Both good but not exceptional. Love the BEER & the ambiance! Tucked away in an old church is a great brewery with friendly staff. We started off with a Sampler of 6 brews made by this brewery. They offered other beers, but really, why would you bother when their Beers rock?!? We ended up enjoying a pint each of a house brew and just enjoyed the atmosphere. Pub tables, sofa & chairs - great place to relax on a Saturday afternoon. If we had more time, I would try more beer! Make sure to try this place as it will. It disappoint! Day Dreamer Wheat IPA was a mild beer, but great flavor. I had the Double Haze Porter and it was divine! The Scotch Ale was also another good choice. If you are looking for "uniqueness", you must try the Small Batch Blueberry Stout. WOW! Starts out with a lovely blueberry taste and then finishes with a Habanero Pepper kick! Pretty cool! The Irish Red isn't a bad choice either. We have really enjoyed our time here and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. read more

Gah, I'm reluctant to write this review because I'm afraid this place will be swamped once the cat is out of the bag. 3rd Turn is one of the best bars in the city. The venue, an old church, is stunning and spacious, and their rotating 20 craft brew taps provide something for everyone- at a great price (everything is only $5). They don't have a food menu, but they do have some small snacks available and you can order in from one of the four pizza joints within walking distance. There's probably other food around as well, but with Loui Loui's down the street, what else would you want with good beer? 3rd Turn is Holy Grale without the pretension, high prices, crowd, and drive from the east end. Even though 3rd Turn has a similar-sized crowd each night, there's plenty of room for everyone to sit down and breathe. Plus, if you're not a beer fan (or if you are, but are plagued by friends who aren't) there's a full selection of bourbons and wines, as well as wine and bourbon slushies. There's really no demographic that isn't covered here. My two complaints (and they're small) is that they often leave the doors open to let some air in, but it gets a little chilly, and that they have no outdoor space. But the first is easily remedied with a light jacket and they're putting in a beer garden, to be opened next spring/summer. Seriously, before you drive all the way from Jtown to Nulu, check this place out. I'll wave to you from the bar! read more

My husband and I checked this spot over the weekend. The outside isn't too impressive, but, the inside is amazing!!! Beautiful vaulted ceilings, dim lights, industrial features..... Ahhhhh.... Perfection. There is one area at the bar designated for drink orders. I personally like it this way. Much better than folks yelling for the bar tender. The beer selection is not giant, but, the options are quality. My husband tried some rotating options (2 of them) and I had a very tasty vodka & cranberry slush! I absolutely agree, and if 3rd Turn had a selection of imports, I think they would be even better. The church atmosphere is inviting and beautiful with the accompaniment of the unfinished wood architecture that makes up the actual bar area. The 20 rotating beers, impressive selection of bourbon, and a rotating selection of frozen slushes make this literally a place where there's something for everybody, whether you're looking to have a drink and relax with friends or a front row seat to your favorite teams on their televisions. On top of everything else, the staff is super friendly and incredibly devoted to great craft beer. This brewery is a gem. The owner is extremely helpful in beer recommendations. The brewery has a rustic yet modern look and the beer is fantastic. The reason as to why I'm leaving three stars is because the bartenders are not helpful and a little rude. They are typically on their phones and don't know much about the beer at all. When you ask for samples they seem inconvenienced. My recommendation to the owner is to hire bartenders who know the beers on tap and at least pretend to want to be there! read more

Located in a building that used to be a church, the mix of spaces (casual hanging out in the front, high tables and chairs for a painting class we saw when we were there, bar seating, smaller semi private rooms, a room with televisions tuned to sports, a small outdoor porch area and a larger outdoor patio area), and the excellent selection of beers, liquids, wines, and some slushies, make this place a total winner. They brew their own and also serve beers from other local and popular brewers. You can order in food (pasta, pizza, salads, burgers, subs) from area restaurants. The staff are really nice. My third time at 3rd turn brewing and I have to say the beer and the atmosphere is awesome. They have music but not blaring like most bars where you have to yell at your company. I didn't like the atmosphere or the fact that it's located in a renovated church. I didn't like the logistics of ordering and paying for drinks, standing in line each time to order & pay.
