By far the best fried chicken and waffles I've had north of North Carolina! Big thanks to a few of my Yelp friends for posting pics of this amazing little gem. I would've never discovered 4 Brothers otherwise. This is a very cute little spot tucked away in a small, kind of strange strip mall, in a somewhat sleepy area. There aren't many tables inside but we had no issue getting a table midweek for lunch. If you're going at a popular time make a reservation online. Service was excellent and super friendly. Most importantly, everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. I had the fried chicken and waffles, my husband had the shrimp and grits with eggs and a biscuit. We also shared the fried yellow squash. So I decided to try lunch today because the place is closed mondays. Also it's only open 9-3:30pm the rest of the week Place is located in a shopping village. There's a parking lot. It's small inside -about 8 tables. Has a country decor feel to it. Kinda irritated with my seating arrangement but it was a small detail. Soul music like Earth Wind and Fire was playing. I just had water in my mason jar glass I ordered the spicy bayou shrimp and grits - that comes with cornbread and two eggs cooked how you want. There is also fried shrimp version also which looks good in the photos. I enjoyed the spicy bayou shrimp. The sauce mixed well with the grits. The cornbread is a good size. Eggs are standard - I couldn't finish because i was full. I was served pretty quick- within 15 mins I would say. Delicious!! Small family run restaurant serving southern food. We started with catfish bites, which were moist and delicious, lightly coated with cornmeal and fried to perfection. Bayou shrimp and grits came with 5 huge shrimp perfectly cooked, and a delicious, not spicy, sauce. This came with 2 eggs cooked to your preference and a biscuit that was soft, buttery, and salty. One of the best Soul Food restaurants in New Jersey that everyone must make their way to! The food and ambiance was a great match! Loved the live music and fried salmon during their Sunday brunch. I really like this establishment and have been here about 4 times now. With mixed feelings I rate this place a 4.5 to be exact and I will explain. The food is excellent and a great touch to the diversity in the area. The food was hot and fresh and seasoned well. Ive honestly only had the catfish and grits which I can't seem to get away from. I've been here with others that have ordered different dishes and have never heard any complaints. I will however say the environment is quite congested and a bit tight. It is very small and it makes me feel a bit uneasy. I've managed to sacrifice the congestion for a guaranteed good dish. The seating is hit or miss and there is a chance you can not be seated. Sometimes I'm lucky and other times I've been turned away due to no seats available. I will say the tables are small and intimate but overly crowded. I don't think there's a need for a whole huge napkin holder on each table. The place is small enough for the server to bring you a few extra napkins if needed. Each time I've gone here I've experienced something a lil different. I will say the 20% automatic gratuity thing doesn't sit well. I could see if I was a party of a certain number. I've never been to a place where I've seen this but ok! Customer Service-could be a lil better but it's not horrible. Today was the worse. 1-Being seated with them only to seat 3 more groups after us and to take there orders before ours..ok 2-3 people came around to take drink orders, no coordination, which I asked for bottled water if they had it and got attitude because of it, I was told there's water on the table, ok but I asked for bottled water, if you dont have it that's fine but don't side bar me. Mind you only 2 of us ordered drinks a bottled water and 1 ice tea. Took 20 mins to get that 3-Food order. Nothing we originally ordered did they have so it would have been better said what they did have instead ordering for the waiter to say no we don't have that multiple times. ok 4-Time is rapidly passing and slowly 1 plate at a time comes out by random workers. There were 6 of us so no need to wait for one another to be able to eat together. It was impossible. By 1 hour I'm the last one and still no food everyone had eaten and completely finished there food and I still had no food. I ordered Shrimp and grits and I did get my eggs that came along with it. My nephew ordered the same exact things as he got all his food and finished. I finally catch the waiters eye to say HELLO, I still do not have my food and I'm starving. He gives me a face like "Whaaaat" you still do not have your food...NO, now despite all that's happened previously I'm pissed at this point...the waiter comes to me to make a small joke pertaining to my love for the cornbread from previous visits as if to make light of the situation. He says quietly that the cook messed up your food so he had to cook it over...and that my dish is on the house...I don't care about paying or not what I care about is the inability to run this establishment a bit better in a more organized orderly fashion and communicate better. I have been here 6 times and it has gone down hill each time. So my review is valid. The waiter did manage to make an announcement and thank us all for coming, blah, blah blah and that Facebook friends had asked them to open on Friday. Whatever, if you can't open and have a full menu and accommodate the folks actually coming in and paying for there food and that rediculous automatic 20% gratuity to add then what's the use? I am not bitter nor am I singling 4 Brothers Breakfast out but with all due respect they have seen my face in there plenty of times and know who I am and this is not some "hater" rant. If you are looking for southern cuisine, look no further! The food was excellent. I would suggest getting the codfish bites as a starter, they were fried perfectly! I ordered the red velvet waffle with fried chicken. Amazing! I repeat, AMAZING! The fried chicken was delicious. My dining companion ordered the shrimp and grits and I was able to taste that as well. The grist were creamy and the sauce they use is the perfect blend of spicy and savory. I highly recommend. To top it off the staff was friendly and accommodating. One word, AMAZING! Seriously, thanks to Yelp for connecting me with places I would've never known about. After sitting in the car repair shop for what seemed like hours, my bf and I really worked up an appetite and we were in the mood for some place we had never been before. We arrived about 3:40 on a Sunday afternoon and the place was not packed at all (I did read other reviews about how the wait could be long, etc.) After about 5 minutes of waiting for a table to be cleaned we were seated. Based on some of the reviews again about the slow service I thought we were in for a wait but the service was actually quick and very attentive. We started off with drinks, I went with a homemade lemonade and my bf with a nice glass of OJ. For our entrees we ordered the shrimp and grits which came with two eggs and a biscuit ( i had the over medium eggs), mac and cheese, and the chicken and waffles and all I can say is WOW -- this place is nothing but amazing! My shrimp and grits were so perfectly seasoned. The grits( perhaps the second best I've ever had) the shrimp was fried to perfection. The mac and cheese? So cheesy, so good and so delicious. The chicken and waffles were also perfect the tenderness of the chicken along with the moistness of the waffles and when you spread the syrup on top it was just a masterpiece waiting to happen. They open at 930, but started taking reservations at the same time, so it didn't give them time to set up for the rush of people that were coming in. The service left SO much to be desired! Definitely one of my favorite brunch spots in New Jersey! I have been here twice so far, and both times have not disappointed! I got the carrot cake waffle with fried chicken for the first time around and had the red velvet waffle with fried chicken and the second time. Was tempted by the salmon cakes, but the waffles were calling my name and who was I to deny them taste buds? The chicken is fried to perfection and very flavorful, and I love the waffles! I've also tried their homemade iced teas which have been very good as well! Service has always been fantastic and very friendly without being intrusive. The owner did jokingly me some shiz the last time because I was taking a picture of my friend's food as my friend sat sadly staring at his food waiting to eat (to be fair, I take quick photos and in all my years of life, have managed to stay off the "Asians taking pictures of food" tumblr, so give me some credit here! :[ my friend was just being dramatic). I had planned to be in he area a few weeks ago and made a reservation for brunch at 4 Brothers (finally!). Warning- the restaurant is small and has limited seating inside. It looks like they have some tables that are set up outside during warmer months. I ordered the spicy bayou shrimp & grits. The sauce on that shrimp was out of this world good and very flavorful. That paired with the grits was enough for a good meal BUT you also get a side of eggs and a full sized biscuit. I wasn't able to finish my meal but I enjoyed every bite I had. We also ordered the fried okra and codfish nuggets for starters. Both came out piping hot and so good. The rest of my group ordered different variations of their chicken and waffles selection. Pro-tip: you can specify which pieces of chicken you want with your waffle. If I lived closer, I would definitely make this one of my go-to breakfast spots. They ruined all other grits for me. Rich, creamy, cheesy, heavenly. I can genuinely say these were hands down the best grits I've ever had. I passed on the biscuit only because I'm trying to watch my caloric intake (which, by the end of my meal was enough for two days anyway) but it took everything in me to hand it over to my guy for him to enjoy. I want to start off by saying the food was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was okay. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because of how bad the customer service was. Customer service is the most important thing when it comes to businesses. I've eaten at many places where the food wasn't even anything serious but I enjoyed the experience so much that I went back. Our waiter was rude, unprofessional & clearly inexperienced. I am so upset that the tip was included in our bill because I feel he deserved nothing. We had missing food items that we never got, we asked for an extra drink and he stated, "I can't right now because I have a lot to do and I have to take care of others." One thing I would love to express to management and ownership, you guys have to do 1000% better on customer service experience food is phenomenal but customer service in a little bit of attitude adjustment from all staff would make this place an amazing hit I'm over understanding that times are hard and things are difficult but that does not mean the lack of attention to detail should go without..!
