4 Charles reputation lives up to the hype. I waited in line for 1.5 hours (they open at 4, start lining up at 2 pm) and we were the fourth party in line. No one else behind us got in, they started taking reservation seating only. The French dip is absolutely amazing, I loved the fries and the chocolate crème pie was also delicious. The only thing I did not like was the mashed potatoes, the flavor of the juices they poured on top were too overpowering.

Just getting in here is an experience itself. So we lined up on a Friday at 11:20. There were a good 15 people ahead of us. A lady comes out at 11:45 am to start taking names down for the waitlist. If you are first, you have a good chance for sitting for lunch. We end up being 7th on the waitlist for 4 people. You tell them the timeframe you are willing to come in/wait. So lucky - we ended up getting a table for 6 pm! Of course we ordered the burger and the prime rib sandwich. Those were given. (Btw, Our server was amazing. He was like the host of a private dinner party. ) The burger was great. They did some great surgery to get the egg drizzled all over the burger and split it amongst the table. The prime rib with the au jus was *chefs kiss*. That sandwich was the best thing I had in a long time. Brussel sprouts were crisp and fresh. Mushrooms were great. So were mashed potatoes, you can't go wrong with those sides. Fries were pretty thick, not the best I have had, but they were decent. We ordered a rib eye steak, it was a little over cooked for me. But it worked out since someone in our party needed it a little more cooked. The chocolate cream pie was next level. Coconut cake, I would never have guessed, but it was also amazing. This you can buy at venieros too. Also, a pleasant surprise is the strawberry ice cream. I can't believe how good it was. Come if you can! I will try to!

4 Charles Prime Rib -- Earned, But Not Easily To be honest, I didn't feel good about 4 Charles Prime Rib at first. Nine tables. Nine. That number alone feels almost insulting. Last Sunday, after doing our research, we showed up an hour early. It was cold, they opened at 11, and there were already about 15 people in line. We were given number nine on the waitlist. No guarantees. If no one canceled, we could be pushed into the next day--literally over 24 hours later. With only nine tables, being ninth basically means don't bother. Even showing up an hour early on a Sunday didn't matter. We waited eight hours that day. Nothing happened. No table, no miracle--just the realization that this place is brutally hard to get into. Our second attempt was Monday. Surely it would be calmer, we thought. We arrived at 2:40 PM and were surprised to see one person already waiting. That day, we barely caught a canceled 6:30 PM slot and waited another two and a half hours before finally sitting down. An exhausting wait. At that point, the question becomes unavoidable: Is anything really worth this? Everything here runs strictly on reservations, and getting one feels close to impossible. So yes, I was already annoyed. What could possibly be so special? I'd heard it's under the same management as Au Cheval--the knife-stuck-through-the-burger presentation and all. This was one stop on our year-end burger tour, and even going into 2026, we felt compelled to try it. Still, while waiting, I kept thinking: After all this, won't it just be the same? Then I noticed the price difference on the menu--$25 versus $39. Not a small gap. And it wasn't just pricing. The quality of the meat was clearly different. The menu said Wagyu burger. One bite was all it took. The flavor, texture, and overall quality were on a completely different level. There was no debate to be had. This was an exceptional burger. Without hesitation, I can say that out of our entire burger tour, this was the best burger we had. Since we'd waited so long, we also ordered the roasted prime rib, French dip, and bone marrow. The bone marrow was fine--nothing memorable--but the roasted prime rib was outstanding. The sharp, well-dressed waiters in three-piece suits, the cozy yet classic atmosphere--it all reinforces the feeling that you're having a truly special meal. With attentive and friendly staff, the dining experience itself was fantastic. Would I go again? I honestly don't dare to think about it. It was simply too hard to get in.

Delicious! Popped in for a nice lunch a few weeks ago. Ordered some staples and they did not disappoint! The salad was super simple but dont let that fool you. Best salad ever. Burger amazing. Jeff server was super great. Burger 10/10.

Wow! This was a stunner. The room was beautiful, warm, retro chic. The service from Daniel was impeccable. The food was truly delicious. And yes the burger was all that! But so was the little gem lettuce salad crowned with a perfect crab cake. Sides of spinach, elote corn and mushrooms all were perfectly cooked. The roast beef/dip was good but not as great as the burger Perfect martini start. Abd chocolate pie to end. Yum! If we can get in again we will! Cheers!

After countless years of trying to get a reservation, I finally got the chance to try 4 Charles Prime Rib and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It was 100% worth the wait. From the service to the food, everything was truly amazing. The salad, drinks, burgers, sides, and of course the King Cut Prime Rib were all outstanding. I'm honestly still drooling just thinking about everything I ate while writing this review! I will definitely be back assuming I can snag another reservation in the future. Highly recommended.

1 of the hardest reservations to get in NYC. This restaurant can easily be missed if you don't know what you're looking for. There is no bells and whistles out front to usher you in. That's part of the charm of 4 Charles. I enjoyed the experience from beginning to end They do have a host at the front who will greet and seat you. The restaurant interior is very cozy. Approximately 9 dining tables and no seats at the bar. Dimly lit with decorative lighting on the wall along with vintage photos Our server was Andrew. He was attentive and informative. Started with the 10 oz double wagyu cheeseburger ($38.99) added the egg (+$4.49) & the bacon ( +$8.99). For entree the 16 oz bone in filet mignon ($95.99) for sides the Elote style corn ($16.99) and the Golden fries ($13.99) and ended with the chocolate pie! & of course several espresso martinis and margaritas were flowing $$$ Lovely dinning. Definitely a splurge. 10/10 would recommend & return

The hardest restaurant to get into is 4 Charles in NYC and for good reasoning. The mystic and impossibility of getting a reservation makes one wonder if it is worth it, rest assured, the hype is very much real. My hubby has been eyeing reservations for this place for about 3 months and had no luck. We decided to wait in line on a Monday which we thought was our best bet at 2:15pm to see if we can be seated at opening which was 4pm. Luckily only 1 person in line so we were able to be seated right at opening for 90 minutes. I thought we would have a later time so I felt underdressed but inside is dark, intimate and gives off a rich speakeasy vibe. Honestly it looked like a max seating for 16-20 people which makes sense why reservations are hard to come by. Once we were seated we were enthusiastically greeted by our server. He gave us recommendations on drinks and food and he really did not miss. We started off with the French dip and the corn elote. The French dip was absolutely phenomenal and recommend by all means! The elote was flavorful and had my mouth watering. My hubby ordered the infamous cheeseburger and he validated it was the best burger he ever had. I ordered the cacio Pepe and the server fluffed an over easy egg on top which was fun but delicious. We also ordered a side of baked potatoes and had no idea it came with two. It was super filling but the cheese and chives were delectable. Overall, I was impressed with service and the food offerings. If I had the opportunity I definitely would be back, it's not a one and done kind of place, it's actually fantastic!

4 Charles Prime is one of those places you hear about and think, "Yeah, no chance we're getting in." Reservations drop two weeks out and disappear instantly, and walk-ins are basically a myth... but somehow we got lucky. And honestly, the team made us feel like we were meant to be there. Our captains, Brandon and Daniel, were incredible--genuine, attentive, and on point with every detail. And the door team, Revekka and Ian, deserve just as much credit; they set the tone the moment we walked in. For walk-in guests, the experience they created was unreal. The food? Absolutely lives up to the hype. The burger with the tableside egg service is something every person should try at least once. The French Dip was to die for, the shrimp scampi was phenomenal, and the button mushrooms were honestly one of the quiet stars of the meal. We finished with the coconut cake, which was the perfect ending--light, rich, and unforgettable. The ambiance makes it all even better: only eight tables, all candle-lit, intimate but not pretentious. Just a beautifully curated space with a team that clearly cares. Huge thank you to the entire staff--this was one of those rare dining experiences you remember.

Located at 4 Charles St, this gem offers a dinind experience worth everv moment of the wait-though I'I admit, getting a reservation is no easy feat! Because there are iust ten tables. But trust me, it's totallv worth t. Double Wagyu Cheeseburger - This burger is ar absolute game changer. The Wagvu beef is incredibly tender and juicy, perfectly complemented by melty cheese and all the right toppings. Also, the waiter pours the eggy yolk on top of the burger, and then you'll understand why this burger is so highly praised. A must-try! B Smoked Salmon Caesar - This Caesar salad is anvthing but ordinarv. The crisp, fresh lettuce paired with smoky salmon, crispy potatoes, and that classic Caesar dressing? Perfection. It's light yet satisfying, and the smoked salmon gives it a wonderful twist Chocolate Cream Pie - End vour meal with the chocolate cream pie, and prepare yourself for dessert heaven. The rich, velvety chocolate filling combined with a perfect buttery crust made this pie a highlight of the night. Despite the challenge of getting a reservation, Charles Prime Rib absolutelv delivers on everv front. From the impeccable service to the unforgettable dishes, it's a dining experience you won't regret. Can't wait to return for the amazing ambiance

Arrived around 11:15 for a Friday lunch walk-in and was fourth in line. We managed to snag one of the outdoor booths when they opened at noon. Since it was our first visit, we went for the classics -- the burger, French dip, and lemon meringue pie. Each dish was perfectly executed, with beautiful presentation. We skipped the eggs and bacon on the burger, and it was still fantastic -- buttery bun, juicy patty, and full of flavor. The French dip was melt-in-your-mouth good. The bread stayed crisp despite the juicy meat, and the jus and horseradish were spot-on accompaniments. We also ordered fries -- salty, crispy, and addictive, though they didn't stay hot for long. Finally, the lemon meringue pie was the perfect finish. The curd was bright and tart, and the meringue was so fluffy and piled high. And since we were getting a little chilly, we ordered the mint tea, which was served in a beautiful teapot. All in all, worth the wait and looking forward to my next visit to try the prime rib and chocolate cream pie!

The space is intimate and inviting with only nine tables in total, including two leather booths (one seating four and the other about eight). We got lucky and were seated at the four person booth. The restaurant is dimly lit, giving it a cozy, speakeasy-like warmth, and the leather seats add to the overall sense of understated elegance. The rib eye steak (cooked medium) and burgers were so flavorful and tender. The absolute highlight of the night for me was the prime rib French dip one of the best I've ever had. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender with the au jus bringing out an incredible depth of flavor. The sides complemented the meal beautifully, especially the button mushrooms, which funny enough were my girlfriend's favorite dish that night. Service was top-notch. Brandon was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. He offered excellent recommendations and might I add, he has the voice of a tenor, which somehow made the entire evening feel even more refined. To finish, the chocolate cream pie was the perfect ending to a flawless meal. Understandably, 4 Charles remains one of the hardest reservations to secure in the city and it's easy to see why.

Ask the Community - 4 Charles Prime Rib

Do they accept late night walk in?

Yes but don't expect anything to be available.

    Are there highchairs?

I haven't seen any but that don't mean that they don't

Can you take to go here?

Do they accept BYOB? What is the cockage charge?

Do they have a dress code?

Nothing published but it's fancy and people don't dress down there. Button and jeans is fine.

Can you eat at the bar?

No. This place is small and there's barely any bar space

Besides 5pm or 11pm, how can a single person enjoy a meal with you? I can't book a reservation. It seems the restaurant discriminates against singles?

My wife and I snagged a table at 5pm on March 4, but it's outside. Has anyone eaten in their outdoor area recently? Will I freeze while my prime rib goes cold? Or is it heated and worth it? Thanks!

Not sure if you went yet but it was well heated and feels indoor. All the food was hot.

So is the 125 per itemized out. Or can it be the total ? What if I buy a 200 dollar bottle of wine and there are four people. Do we still need to order 125 in food each or would it be ok as long as the entire bill is 500 bucks. This is so confusing?

We didn't hit the minimum and they didn't charge us extra.

    Can you bring well-behaved kids?

    Please no

Do they run out of prime rib frequently? I have a 10:45 reservation for my husband's birthday. Should I postpone and attempt to get an earlier (even 5:00) slot on a later date?

Nope! Had an 11 pm reservation and was able to get prime rib!

Any tips on getting a reservation ? I am having a hard time getting one at a decent time

    Resy alerts!

Hello! When do reservations open? 30 days in advance at 12:01am?

30 days in advance at midnight on the dot :)

Can you go just for a drink at the bar?

There's a bar area but there isn't any seating for walk-ins

Is there a bar and can walk-in's eat there?

There is a small bar area, but there is no seating for walk-in's to eat at

Can you eat at the bar?

There is a small bar area, but there is no seating at the bar for eating

Is it possible to get a reservation on a weekday for 7 PM for 4 people?

In my experience not unless you know someone or get lucky. Reservations are usually done at least a month in advance from what I understand. It's worth the wait and even worth going late if that's all you can get!

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

The concept is simple: tell the bartenders what type of liquor and flavors you enjoy, and they create a custom cocktail just for you. I think it helps to go in with a few ideas, but if you give them some creative freedom, they can really surprise you. I honestly cannot remember all the ingredients in my drinks, but I do remember loving every sip. Such a unique spot and a fun experience. Definitely small inside so you may have to wait awhile. I only wish I lived closer!

Our friends raved about this place and we of course were excited (and a bit skeptical at first) to try it. The concept: no menu + no lights + a few questions = the ultimate cocktail experience. The speakeasy vibe and the dark ambiance really makes this place feel even more exclusive. With just a few tables and the bar setting, you're in for an experience you won't forget (unless you answer the wrong questions and really end up with a drink you don't like HA). This wasn't my case. Of course I described my two favorite things: Negroni + mezcal. The obvious answer would be a mezcal Negroni, but that's not why one comes to a place like Attaboy. Our amazing curator came by to ask us all a few questions, write down a few words in the napkins, and mix up the perfect drink that our master bartender crafts, curates and creates. My drink came as I couldn't possibly imagine. It looked like a Negroni smelled like Oaxaca, with all the smoke simmering up and preparing my sensory experience, leading to the best first sip. Ladies and gentleman, I introduce you to The Devil's Backbone. A perfectly balanced drink I'll never forget, one that is sipped slowly and enjoyed thoroughly. It's sexy, it's smoky it's sipped. Attaboy gave the best mixology experience and we can't wait to be back. Pro tip: be sure to be as vocal as possible, even with ice, so you don't end up with a tiki drink if that's not your vibe.

Mood lighting, comfortable seating, great drinks in a cozy and Victorian-inspired space are the perfect blend of unique and. I always felt like I was part of something special the few times enjoyed creative, delicious, and strong libations from the pros at the bar. While it has always been pricey, I do feel like the excellent service ambiance, and drink quality warrant this, but may prevent more folks from becoming regulars so to speak. I love the clever and compact bathroom design, too. IYKYK Long live Apotheke!

I could tell you to look for the blue beaker sign that says "Chemist" but the better tell is the random guy sitting on a stool outside. He'll be the only person on the street, so no worries about missing him! The menu has changed over the years, but the quality has not. The bartenders are social and personable. And the prices are in line for the area. My bestie and I loved the vibe. One of the best speakeasies she's had the pleasure of experiencing. Don't miss out on this place!
