This was by far the most expensive and most disappointing nail experience I have ever had. I came in for a gel pedicure, a full set, and eyebrow wax. I showed a clear inspiration photo for an almond French tip design with polka dots and floral accents. The nail tech told me she could not do the flowers, which was fine, and confirmed she could still do the French tip and dot design. Instead, I was given a completely different basic single-color pink set with no French tip, no dots, and no design work at all. The final total was $180, which is honestly outrageous for what was done. The breakdown was $75 for the gel pedicure, $90 for a very basic full set, and $15 for eyebrows. I have never in my life paid anywhere near this much for such a simple set, especially one that did not include any of the design elements discussed. The biggest issue is the lack of upfront pricing transparency. At no point before or during the service was I told that a basic full set and gel pedicure here would cost nearly $200. If I had known this place charges luxury-level prices for very basic work, I absolutely would have gone elsewhere. For anyone considering this salon, please be aware that this may be one of the most expensive nail appointments you will pay for, and based on my experience, the work did not justify the price at all. I absolutely give this salon five stars! Three of us went in for an afternoon pedicure and brought along our two year old sidekick to also have her tiny toes painted. We were greeted by the friendliest smiling faces and they were so excited that we brought our tiny companion with us (its always unknown whether or not people will be into the idea of a baby coming in for grown-up treatments). We all sat next to each other in the small but well laid out salon and each received a fantastic pedicure! The nail tech who was working on my sister and baby niece was so friendly and sweet to little J. We all basically just laughed for 30 minutes straight. It's a very nice vibe here at 4 Sisters! I had my second Shellac gel manicure with Sam (short for Sampa). I wanted Ling, but this is the kind of "factory nail place" where you don't always get the manicurist you want. I could live with that so long as there's consistency. I challenged Sam by saying "Can you do as good a job as Ling?" to which she replied coyly "I dunno. You'll just have to wait and see." Sam is probably the only Asian I've seen who looks great with blonde hair. Anyway, I chose a dark grey shade called Asphalt because I just have to have the newest Shellac color on my nails. Her work was very similar to Ling's. Ling was better with the polish around the cuticles, but Sam was better with overall polishing. Sam made my nails look like glass. Awesome. The price is great. It's only frickin' $24?! I gave them $30 as I did last time. If they could get everything perfect, I'd give them $2 more. read more

First off, I think everyone needs to know that these "gel manicures" we've been hearing about are absolutely LEGIT. I enjoyed a perfectly executed gel manicure at 4 sisters about 3 and a half weeks ago and I swear to god there is only ONE CHIP (and it's very minor). My nails have obviously grown since and look a little awk with my nail bed showing, but only if you look closely. I'm positively amazed. Caveat, however, for all those contemplating a switch - I talked to the manicurist and apparently the gel isn't for everyone - it seems to hold much better on some nails as opposed to others. My nails have always been pretty strong and thick so I'm sure that's a factor but, honestly, for me UV gel has made "chipping" part of a fabricated scheme for a weekly manicure. Gel-advocation aside, 4 sisters has quickly become my go-to spot for a mani/pedi in center city. They are CLEAN (important factor number one), friendly, efficient and reasonably priced. $35 for mani/pedi combo + an extra $10 if you want the mani gel upgrade. The pedicure is pretty standard - they use some type of bath salt in the tub and then squeeze fresh oranges onto your legs as an exfoliant. I've never made an appointment - you can usually get away with walking in and waiting around 10-15 minutes. They have a location at 21st and chestnut as well & they share staff whenever one location gets busier than the other. The women here are all very sweet and certainly know what they are doing. Last time I came I forgot flip flops (dumb) and just as I went to trudge around center city in paper ones; the owner quickly pulls out a pair of "real" flip flops for me. Now that's the extra effort that creates loyal customers. read more

This place is pretty darn good as neighborhood mani/pedi places go. They have a pretty good color selection, and often have cute displays of the "trends" that Opi/Essie/etc. are advertising this season. (Could YOU be wearing last seaon's nail polish? Details at 11...) The manicurists are usually friendly and take their time (although YMMV, depending on who you get). They are often interested in striking up a conversation, but if you're not into it they'll leave you alone to read your 6-month-old US Weekly in peace. Other good things about 4 Sisters: They aren't afraid to bring out the razor if your feet call for it, the pedicure includes a really tingly salt scrub for your feet and legs, and the place seems pretty clean and slick, as nail places go. Interestingly, I've seen not one, but two men in there getting manicures in the last few months. So don't be shy, guys! Where you will run into trouble in 4 Sisters is trying to guess the prices - they're a little unintuitive. A mani/pedi combo is $35 (pretty reasonable), but a pedicure alone will cost you $27. In my opinion, if you're going to spend $27 on a pedi, you may as well spend the extra $7 and get your nails did. They will take cards, but tip is in cash only. read more

This place should get more love. They offer a great pedicure for a very reasonable price and are always super friendly. More importantly: CLEAN, despite the cramped, dubious location. They have an autoclave and they use it on all their metal tools. Excellent. This is the one place that's never given me the dreaded nail salon toenail fungus. I like this location much better than the Chestnut St one. Chestnut is always super-busy and I don't think the staff does as good a job. So why the docked star? Every once in a while I'll get a dud: one of the ladies rushes, and either the shape of my nails is off (like, a seriously funky angle on a big nail) or they get a little sloppy with the polish. Also, every once in a while someone will be less than enthusiastic with the calluses: take 'em off, seriously, that's what I asked for! I've only ever gotten pedis and manis here, never acrylics et al. Their manicures are just ok; I felt they left a little too much cuticle and the polish didn't last very long, while the pedicures (with very rare exceptions) last fantastically. So I go here for the pedicures and the friendly, polite service. It's precisely what my feet want at the end of a long work week! Go already. Seriously. Just remember: they DO take credit cards, but they only accept cash tips. read more

While my friend Tiffany was visiting me in Philly, she requested that we get a manicure together. I had tried out another salon close to my apartment, but after a rather unpleasant experience wanted to try another place around Rittenhouse Square. I had glanced at Yelp reviews of 4 Sisters Nail Salon and figured that it was worth a shot since so many people seemed to like it. We arrived right as two other girls stepped in to get their nails done, but they were still able to take us for our manicures. The place itself is very small; only a handful of pedicure chairs and manicure tables are cramped together in the front portion of the salon. The decor leaves quite a bit to be desired, but its clearly not meant to be a relaxing, nice spa. Most, if not all, of the women in here seem to come for quick nail procedures, which is exactly what they deliver with relatively nice quality regardless. They have a decent selection of polish colors in several different brands, better than some nicer looking places I've been to. Everyone there is very nice and sweet, and very efficient and good at what they do. I probably spent as much time getting my nails done as I did letting them dry, yet they still did a fantastic job. And for only $17! I wouldn't go here to sit back, relax and get pampered, but if I need a quick, good manicure this is the place to go to. read more

I love this place...and not just because they call you "Honey" or often end up staying open a little late because I show up in desperate need of a manicure. They do a spiffing set of acrylics. Yes, I'm from Jersey - let me get my trashy fake nails in peace, please. But seriously, this is the best place in town for acrylics. They run about $30, which is fairly standard, I believe. But, the quality is out of this world. They last forever, which is much better than I can say for some other nail salons in the city where the nails would start popping off a day later - a horrible, horrible thing to have happen when that day happens to be Christmas Eve. The only thing I haven't been impressed with (and hence only the 4 star review) is their pedicures. A girl just likes to be pampered a little bit. I've always felt like they were rushed and a bit lower quality than the price would imply. Maybe I'm just spoiled. I would definitely advise calling ahead and asking for Van. Call it 3 stars for a recent mani/pedi. 5 stars for the pedicure - relaxing; efficient but thorough; nice scrub/moisturizing products; short but sweet massage. 2 stars for the manicure - rushed; a different, inexperienced technician; a French manicure that came out blobby and bright pink. Other thoughts: Shame on me for showing up at lunchtime on a Friday in Center City. 4 Sisters has a large staff, but things felt chaotic with customers everywhere. The salon seems to do a big business in gels and acrylics. I prefer a natural nail, and I suspect this may explain the confusion over my request for pink and white. BUT: The price cannot be beat: $35 (+$6 extra for the French mani, although make sure they know how to do it first...) plus tip for a mani/pedi. I love these ladies! They are always so welcoming and this is the best nail place I've gone to in the city. First up, pedicures. They are awesome! Relaxing, not too long or short, and they do a great job. They always check to make sure you love the nail color and if you don't, they know exactly what color you were looking for. They also use fresh citrus to wash away everything after your pedicure, which is awesome. Next up, the gel manicures. They are the best this city will ever see! Got a mani/pedi here while in town for a wedding and they were very friendly, prompt, and did a good job overall. The price is right- $35 for a combo of the 2 and they carry a complete line of OPI Polish (may I recommend my new fave, Yoga-Ta Get This Blue). The chairs are nice and it seemed clean overall. I made an appointment for 11am on a Saturday, showed up at 10am and they were able to accommodate me immediately. The proximity to my hotel and the other reviews brought me here and if I was ever in the area again, I would def go back! FYI, they accept CC's but only cash for the tip. read more

Lime in the soaking water for a manicure was a nice touch but would have sent me to a different world if I had a small cut or hangnail. Citrus in a wound- think about it. So I'm not the type to write reviews, but I was a little mislead by the existing reviews and felt the need to share my experience. Four Sisters is around the corner from me and seemed like a legit place so I decided to give it a try. Sadly my experience was highly unsatisfactory. I got a pedicure that cost $27 not including tip and they barely did anything. My cuticles were hardly touched except to put a drop of oil on them, which does nothing by itself. There was very little exfoliating and the paint job was amateur at best (I hate being this harsh but it's the truth!). To top it all off, the polish chipped in less than a week. My friend from NYC was with me and commented that she can get a pedicure for less than $20 where they do a much more thorough job. My only hope in writing this review is that the business perhaps sees it and makes improvements on their performance. read more

I won't get my nails done anywhere else! If you get the OPI gel manicure, you NEED to go here! My nails are usually pretty weak and break often, but after going here, my nails never break. I have been to other salons that ruined my nails when trying to remove the gel, but this place is awesome. They soak your nails with cotton balls wrapped in tin foil and the gel just falls off. The manicure lasts 2+ weeks. I usually have to get them redone only when the color grows out. The service is phenomenal too. I arrived at 6:55pm asking for a mani/pedi not realizing that they closed at 7:00. She stayed until 8PM and did an outstanding job. She didn't rush at all! It's a pretty small place, but they are currently renovating for more space, which is the only negative. It's clean, efficient, and they do an excellent job! read more

Although things seemed clean, I was a bit dubious about how some of the instruments were just rinsed in water rather than disenfected. I'm big on UV gel nail polish manicures. Compared to other salons I've gone to (namely Rittenhouse nails), they give comparable service at a much more reasonable cost with a wide selection of UV gel nailpolish colors. My manicure routinely lasts in excess of 3 weeks...occasionally a bit more than the promised two. They always do a superb job. They even do a UV gel french mani for me for only $5 more. No chips for 4 weeks and it looked absolutely lovely. If you're just in it for a basic mani/pedi, I feel they do a pretty good job with that too. They use actual sliced half oranges to exfoliate your legs during a pedicure (a nice touch for the price). Bad experience. Made an appt. for a gel mani/pedi and they said 83 total over the phone- fine. While I was there, I had to have them clean multiple tools before using them on me. Then when I went to leave they said my total was 93 for gel removal at the start of my appointment. What salon does that when you are getting them redone?? Rhetorical question-- none! If I could give this place less than one star then I would. I came here after classes to treat myself to some end of midterms pampering. I called and made an appointment for a gel manicure with tips, and was looking forward to going after reading all these great reviews on yelp. The manicurist was pleasant enough, and I asked for a set of pink and white gels. Now mind you, I have never gotten this type of manicure and was excited to try it. She started by applying the tips, and filing them, yet could not seem to file them in a straight line, they were completely crooked, no matter how many times I asked for her to make them even. This was true for the white gel that she applied to the tips, she couldn't make the line even all the way across. One side was significantly higher than the other, and eventually I gave up asking seeing as she was not understanding what my request was. I had to ask twice for her to even push back and cut my cuticles, and she did a terrible job of that. The worst part however, was at the end of the appointment when she told me the price. SEVENTY dollars. That would be $70. For a terrible manicure that was nowhere near perfect. The same day I got home, half of the gel on my thumbnail chipped off, after only attempting to open my cabinet door. Three days later, and the gel on my middle finger has chipped off, and the gel around the cuticles is lifting up and separating from the nail bed. Absolutely terrible. read more

My nails always look great after I go here, but they scuff up your nails in order to get the polish to stick. I didn't think much of this the first 2 times I went for a polish change, but after she took off the polish for my 3rd, I noticed that my nails were heavily discolored where the scratches from the scuffing were. It took 3 months to get my nails back to normal - don't think I'll be getting them done for quite a while now. read more

Based on reviews, I decided to give 4 Sisters a try and I am SO glad I did. I walked in on a Thursday after work and they were able to take me right away. Nai was the lady who did my nails and she was quick, professional and obviously in high demand since people kept calling to book appointments with her. Nai asked me numerous questions that many nail salons usually just assume such as shape, width of the french tip, etc. Did I mention that acrylics were only $35 plus $6 for french?? My experience was horrible and here's why: - very average to semi poor work for the $$ price (check JFK nails close by, much cheaper and better) - obnoxious staff (saying "I don't care" to another customer when she asked about which design she liked; pointing to our feet and talking in another language the whole time which prompted another customer to ask if they were laughing at her feet) -an over zealous staff whisked me away when I indicated I wanted a pedicure - halfway through, she mumbled something to me which I thought she was asking me whether I wanted my feet scrubbed and I said yes. Being a first timer here, I thought the longer than normal procedure was their norm only to be slapped with a $50 bill for a 'spa' pedicure as opposed to a regular pedicure that I requested when I came in. Instead of apologizing, the owner and her were adamant I had asked for it. I paid in full partially because I was in a rush and because I should have asked her to repeat herself when she mumbled halfway through my pedicure while I was engrossed in my reading. So, a few days after this debacle, this $50 pedicure has withered already. There are tons of nail salons in the city, check those out where you'll get a more professional treatment. read more
