Another case of great food, horrible service. I saw the sign on the wall as soon as I walked in about it NOT being fast food and there will be a wait. For two burritos my wife and I waited over 30 minutes and there was only one person ahead of us. While we waited my wife noticed on her receipt her order was totally wrong. What's the purpose for the microphone if you're still going to mess up the order? Wasn't like they were understaffed either, there were 3 ladies behind the bulletproof glass that I could see and at least 2 guys. I sure would love to see black owned businesses thrive in Detroit but when you don't go the extra mile to make sure everything is everything, you'll fail every time. This is by far THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I've EVER HAD in MY ENTIRE LIFE! Everything is so delicious from the burritos to the tacos to the mexi-corn! To be honest I love 44 BURRITO way better than mexican town due to the fact that 44 burrito makes everything FRESH TO ORDER! The staff is amazing and definitely define the word professionalism well! I have to admit to place is pretty good. They go into detail on preparing each dish, it just not thrown together, so be patient when ordering. For example they nachos are LAYER with meat, cheese, & veggie thur out the whole dish, not a bunch of chips with a lil toppings on top. And the white bean chicken chilli!! OMG!! So let me start by saying the fried burrito is excellent but there is a HUGE downside to going here! Their website says call in your order but when you do they don't take call ins! They have lost my business! I refuse to stand in line and then order and have to wait after that! I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this in the past and have asked other places why they don't take phone orders and was told too many people don't pick up their orders and they get stuck with the food! That's not my problem! Have an online payment or over the phone option! When I voiced my displeasure they really didn't care! If you have the time to sit and wait and deal with the rude ass cashiers then have at it! They must not understand this is a now world and no one wants to wait if they don't have to! I'm not usually big on Mexican food, but my boyfriend wanted to stop for food on our way home one day and I loved it. I had a the tacos and they were delicious. He had a deep fried burrito and I ate almost half of his (not to his liking) and I'm coming back to get more. The staff seems really personable and I feel like it's a more at home kind of place where you get to know the people. I've eaten at Taqueria el Rey a few times which I consider good Mexican food and honestly I think this place is comparable if not better. read more

This food is awesome. My girl and I split to different menu items. Service was great and the place was clean. My only complaint is the place is never open. I mean for the pass weeks since we had our 1st taste of it we can never catch it open. It was closed 2 straight weekends and some days int the middle of the week as well. I tried it for the first time yesterday. I ordered a 10' inch ground turkey...Delicious! Told my family about it. So I ended up going back and ordering for them. You would think that deep fried would be greasy but it was not! My dad had the fried original beef burrito. He said he never wants a steamed tortilla again!!. nothing that it stands out so much to validate the way over priced deep fried burrito. It tasted good like any decent mexican food does, but the gap between 44 burrito and other places doesn't exist. For their $11 dollar deep fried burrito, I could of went to Qdoba and had a large (larger) pop, bigger burrito, chips with 4 cheese with a ton of add on, for less then the price of the 12" burrito alone that ended being about 8", and still probably had left overs from Qdoba. If you want to experience the deep fried 12" very small burrito...go ahead and fit in with this fad place. Until they change that to 1/2 the price there is no need to order it. Maybe order a special that gives a decent amount which I'm wondering if there really is. Food didn't taste bad but I paid over $20 just for two 8" (12") burritos that didn't really make the distinct gap from another burrito place. read more

Don't plan on eating at this restaurant unless you have time to wait. I've came here multiple instances upon which the wait for service was extremely long. The food is decent in taste but not with the 30 min wait it takes to place an order. This is gas station quality for a five star wait and a mid level deal. Plenty of other places to go when you're on your lunch hour for work. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I live in the area and never stopped in, but always thought about it. Now that I have I never will again. Total waste of money. To start off when I called to place my order the person who answered said hello... I thought I called someone's house. She finally said the name of the business and she sounded like a kid. The call took a good 5 mins and all I was ordering was 2 tacos and a burrito. I almost said never mind (which in hindsight I should have) but I thought this is a family business and she's probably just new. When I asked how long it would take she asked the person who was telling her what to say in the background and was told 25 mins. I'm thinking that's pretty long for what I ordered, but it was Friday night. Any way I get there exactly 25 mins later and there is someone in front of me placing their order. I get to the window and give my name, pay and still end up waiting another 15-20 mins. While I'm waiting I realize on my detailed receipt it didn't have cilantro, which I asked for. I let the girl at the register know and I wait.... she comes out and offers me a drink for the wait. Which I also noticed the guy before me got a free drink for his wait and he ended up coming back for something he didn't get. My order is finally ready and when I get mine the girl who was placing her order when I got there got hers too. How?!? If I ordered mine 25 mins before her, how was our food ready at the same time? Now on to the food itself. It was just ok. Like many other reviews stated, it's a step up from Taco Bell and I don't like Taco Bell. I love real Mexican food and this wasn't it. The tacos were a bit dry and nothing impressive. The burrito was good, but definitely not worth the $$ or time I spent. I asked for a side of sour cream and a side of guacamole. Food is great but the owner sucks. I had two different incidents that show that some black people don't need to run businesses. They screwed up my order the first time not following what was punched in on my receipt. Next i said i will try it again so I'm calling in my order and i ask how much was the tacos. She told me to go online. It would have took 2 min to say i got 4 for 8 bucks. But i said ok. Cheap website didn't download so i called back and started my order. I ask for 3 and she cut me off to say i got 4 for 8. I didn't get into well i just called and i didn't finish my order for the total of 6 i actually wanted. The only reason I gave this establishment 3 stars is because I am a professional food critic. I dine at different establishment's throughout Metro Detroit. But to them I am just an ordinary customer. I visited this particular restaurant 3 days in a row, spent close to $50.00 each time and although there was a wait time, which was to be expected and the food was absolutely delicious, But with every visit the Cashier ( not the older lady ) was not very friendly at all and made me feel extremely rushed while ordering. And didn't even acknowledge that I patronized their business 3 days in a row, Even with a high volume of consumers you should always notice you're regulars because they will keep coming back. And for that reason a diner/restaurant wont get good reviews if the customer service is bad no matter how good the food is. I ordered the chicken and beef taco supremes I saw the Instagram page and decided to give them a try besides I don't like Chipotle and Taco Bell isn't good. I do have to admit that the food was fair...but the wait and the service was beyond horrible. Waited over an hour for an order of tacos, a chimichanga and two orders of chips/cheese. There are signs that ask for customer patience as all food is made to order...but several people waiting complained about getting the wrong order or not everything that had been ordered and paid for in advance. Halfway through our wait, we were told they had run out of ground beef and you would think that the order was being worked on. Oh but no....!!! Another 30 minutes go by! And as we watched them pack up the order, it was obvious that the easiest item (chips/cheese) had been omitted. In fact, they had to pull out pans, light up the stove, get cheese from the cooler and chips from storage in order to complete this part of the order. So now the other part of order is getting cold as we wait for the cheese to melt. And the entire time, the unbelievably unprofessional staff members are cursing at one another and rolling their eyes at us because we have the audacity to be upset at having to wait over an hour for mediocre food.
