I calld them with two days left before my move, and they sent three men and a truck to my place - they were early, the move took under three hours, and was around $400 before tip. The things keeping them from being 5 stars: -When I called they sent me an estimate, but neglected to tell me they had issues with gmail, so I didn't check my spam folder, where their emails went. -Despite telling the rep on the phone my addresses and phone number (including the details of my limited-access apartment) when they called to confirm on the day, they had lost all of that information. -My kitchen table had a cracked leg, and it broken when they were moving it. They fixed it for me, but I'm not sure why no precautions were taken, even after they pointed out the crack to me. Regardless, if I move again, I'd call them for sure. read more

BAD HANDLING and CARE I had my 50" Plasma TV in their storage and even though it was clearly marked in big writing on the box "THIS SIDE UP" they had it upside down. 495 Movers does not take care of your things once in their storage. If they could do this to something as clearly marked one could only wonder how they would handle other things. They also had dinged up my furniture (dining table and coffee table). It wasn't broken, but the damage was clearly visible. They do not have even the basic experience to handle things correctly. If only they handled how they would handle their personal things there would be no issues. I called to arrange my move after reading all the positive reviews; I guess I should have read the filtered ones. The rep who sent me the estimate was curt but I gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was having a bad day. The estimate assumed I was moving several tons of belongings when I'd told him it was just 20-30 boxes. With not a lot of options, I called back and was given over to a different rep, who, when I asked about the weight, interrupted me by shouting my first name a few times and telling me that nothing could be changed or negotiated. He then went on to tell me that the only time anyone was available was 'late afternoon' and I'd need to be flexible. When I told him I'd have to discuss it with my spouse, he said, "Well you just call back when you've decided if you're just wasting our time or not," and hung up. I recently hired 495 Movers for a local move that I had from Rockville, MD to Leesburg, VA. I couldn't be more pleased with the service and the quality of the move. They were extremely proactive and responsive to all needs and requests. I had called several companies to get a quote and 495 Movers came out and did an on-site inspection the same day. Very professional and courteous. They delivered boxes prior to the move as well which was great so we could get a head start in packing. The day of the move, the movers were also extremely professional and diligent. They were very careful and wrapped each piece of furniture individually with the utmost care (and we had a lot of nice and heavy pieces). Upon arriving at the drop off location they were very quick in unloading, remaining very cautious along the way. I did not have one piece of furniture that was broken, damaged, scratched. They also set up the furniture and reassembled the pieces (beds etc). I am a very demanding and particular person - especially when it comes to my belongings. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience I had with 495 Movers. I hope not to be moving anytime soon :) - however, I wouldn't hesitate to call them again. They aquired my storage unit from a facility that went out of business in Columbia, MD moved it to rockville, md and told me me it was across the street. I don't call 75 minutes away across the street. 1 1/2 years later when I go to have my things shipped to me and wanted to get in my unit, they tell me I can't because they moved it to PENNYLVANIA!!!!, to save me money. When I asked for a price for a distance move they tell me 8000 and say if I can get the contents reduced they would do 6000. Then lied and said if I can get bids from three other movers they would match the price. I sent them bids and they come bc and tell me they can't do it for less. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE FOLKS, go somewhere else. Now GOOGLE is saying they are permanently closed. read more

Overall, it was a positive experience. I came away with zero complaints, which is exactly what I want from a moving service! My husband and I were only able to pay for a certain number of hours and the movers were able to get everything done in that time. I really appreciated their hard work and speed. The only reason I give 4 stars is that some marks were left on the walls of our old residence; in our new residence, however, they left no wall marks (which is the most important thing!) Also, there was some miscommunication about how the "travel time" costs were calculated, so just be aware that you will pay for 1 hour of travel time for the movers to get to and from their headquarters PLUS whatever time it takes to travel from your old residence to the new residence. That policy is totally fine and standard - the problem was, however, that I called and emailed and spoke to multiple people before the move to clarify this, and they couldn't/didn't explain this to me. I don't think they were being deliberately misleading, but I came away with the impression that the 1 hour of travel time included ALL travel. Overall, however, it was a positive experience and I would definitely recommend 495 Movers! read more

We have all been there, frantically running around the house shoving your entire life into boxes, wrapping your most prized possessions enough bubble wrap to turn John McEnroe into a Buddhist monk in hopes that during the movers mad dash that your Kitchen-Aid will only crush a few things when stacked on top. Not so with 495 Movers!!! From the first phone call, it was like talking with an old friend. The entire process, cost, and expectations for both myself and their service was clearly defined and I was left without the normal dread of my upcoming move from outside to inside the city. On the day of the move, they arrived 30 minutes early and right away you could see the professionalism that sets 495 Movers apart. They descended on my apartment in military fashion, delicately packing and moving my things into the truck with Jose as the master chief, making sure that nothing was overlooked or treated roughly. Its like at the grocery store, the canned food never went on top of the bread! The best part? At the end of the day, the total cost to me was EXACTLY what I was quoted in the beginning, with exception of a few items that I had forgotten to mention at the time of the estimate, and they were more than patient in explaining the price breakdowns to me. Do yourself a favor and have the best move of your life, don't try to be a tough guy and move yourself while torturing your friends, don't hire the discount guys and pull your hair out, call 495 Movers. Recently used 495 movers and were very happy with the results. The guys were friendly and worked quickly...they even finished an hour earlier than originally estimated. They carefully packed all of our fragile items and even some of our valuables, including jewelry. Not one item turned up missing and no broken furniture (and we own some MASSIVE pieces) or plates. They did make two very small dings in our walls (size of pencil eraser) although I imagine that it's almost impossible to move an entire home and not have even oen small accident. They are easily fixed and they even took $50 off of our total b/c of it. We spent almost $100 less than we thought we would. Happy customers! read more

My experience was fantastic. 495 Movers was friendly from my initial call for an estimate, the in-home quote, an the actual move. The estimate was exactly what I paid. I liked not being charged extra for packing and moving materials. They also had the best price. The movers were very careful with my belongings and nothing was lost or broken. The movers finished the move in the allotted time even though they had to use the elevator and travel down a long hallway instead of using the stairs. Tom, the salesperson, was very pleasant on the phone and we set up an appointment. He was right on time, very thorough and knowledgeable, and friendly. He gave me the estimate and other than me changing the move date to the middle of the week (which affected the hourly rate), his estimate was dead on. The day of the move went very smoothly and the 3 movers were just as good as Tom. They packed everything so well that I even let them move my 2 flat screen TV's. First they cover any and all glass with cardboard and then with moving blankets. I had absolutely no damage to any of my items or walls. I had moved my crystal myself but if I knew in advance how good they were, I would have left those boxes to be moved as well. The only hiccup was the crew and truck was about an hour late. The owner allowed Tom to refund me an hour off the move which I felt was very fair. Thanks again to Tom and the wonderful crew that I had. You took away most of the stress I had about the move. This moving company is terrific, They are experienced, have a very competent crew and are efficient in everything they do. I have used this company about 6 times to help out elderly parents, a move from a condo to a house, and back and forth to and from Los Angeles and Rockville/Bethesda. I particularly like the fact that they will move small or large loads and routinely move items across country. They follow up, supervise well, and take very good care with all items they move. They will shrink-wrap dressers so that you don;t need to unpack and re-pack them; they come with plenty of blankets for protecting everything. I highly reccommend these movers. read more

My first contact witih this company was easy and seamless. They provided an onsite estimate (although they arrived 3 hours early without any notice as "we are busy today") and everything seemed to be just what I was looking for. Moving day arrives and they arrive pretty much on time and the process begins. The 2 workers begin in the bedroom and begin to remove all of my dry cleaning and folding it in square and throwing in a box. I left after this to finish some errands When I returned the packing was almost complete, except for the large items. Once we arrived at the new place, everything was unloaded and furniture was unwrapped as promised and they movers left after I paid them and signed the contract. The dissatisfaction begins when I start to unpack. I have clothes packed with my dishes and kitchen supplies and everything else is just thrown in boxes.....much like a 10 year old would pack a suitcase. I called and spoke to Monti (the person who provided my onsite estimate) and he told me he needed to talk to Nathan who was the supervisor for my move. That was 3 days ago and not even a return call. I would pack my stuff in the back of a pick up truck before I would recommend this company to anyone. DON"T MAKE THE SAME MISTAkE......... read more

My girlfriend and I were moving from two small one bedrooms into a new two bedroom apartment and were were told that the move should take no more than 8 hours but probably less. I was told there would get 4 of there top guys, I got 3 and 2 of them seemed new and were very slow. Instead of 8 hours it took 13, which cost 1300 miss than the quote. I was told they provided as many garment boxes, and regular boxes as needed. They said they were going to send 30 garment boxes, instead I they brought 4 and my clothes were taken off hangers, rammed in boxes and if took a lot longer for them and later for me. I chose this company based on reviews but they were misleading. I was told one thing and received something else, which they gained wouldn't happen. Be warned! read more

DO NOT EVER HIRE THEM - 495 are movers from HELL. Reviews are not just misleading but they call people who have used them and given accurate reviews and request or threaten them to take the post off. 495 is not a moving company themselves. They are just consolidators . They give you a low estimate and once they have 3 or 4 customers in the same delivery zip code they bid for trucks from North American Van Lines or other such companies. They call back and fleece the customers once the pickup is Complete. They know the customers will pay coz they are holding the customers stuff for ransom. The estimate was way off. To start off they give very low estimate to get the job. Jacob sweet talks and gives all sorts of assurance and requests you to take a look at the reviews and then call back. The Crew is useless. They are not trained packers.. and they DO NOT know English. 495 picks up people who are waiting on the streets to do the packing , loading and even unloading. The crew came 2 hours late and packed and loaded for 10 plus hours. They did not maintain a packing list. They scribbled things randomly and in the end failed to give us a copy of the packing list. Crew do not have moving skill or training. Took much longer, than the estimate and in the end assured us that they will take it back to the storage repack it and give us an accurate estimate. Broke a lot of stuff while packing and made scratches and dents in not just the house but the apartment that they delivered it to. They send small U - Hauls trucks to pick up and assure us that they will load it to trailers. We noticed that they had repacked a lot of stuff and even stolen a lot of stuff when our stuff was delivered. We called a number of times to check on the status of our stuff but Jacob was curt and rude and informed us that he had other clients to take care off and that he would get back to us once he had an answer. 4 days after picking up our stuff Jacob the rep. calls and informs us that we had to pay $2000 more coz it was way over the estimate. Monty his boss informs us that the driver of the truck would not accept anything less. The fact that they had repacked all our stuff into huge wardrobe boxes was what caused the estimate to go over. The delivery driver is from hell. He is a creepy and rude guy called MIke. They unloaded all our stuff onto the parking lot in the apartment complex. The driver Mike demanded $1200 more to deliver inside the house. He gave an explanation of $75 per step per hour to our door. When we refused to pay he threatened got into the truck and threatened to leave. He demanded it all in cash and said he would give us a discount if my husband would help them unload. The only saving grace was the 2 helpers he had picked up on the way. They informed us that he had done this all along the way and asked us to threaten that we would call the police. We did as we were told but it was too late because the sprinkler system turned on and all our boxes were drenched. Mike kicked and destroyed all the sprinklers and demanded that we give him all the cash that we had. We were forced to give him $500 after which he instructed one of his men to move the boxes inside and he left with the other guy. He returned after 2 hours with 2 men who did not know a word of English and interacted them to unpack and remove all the blankets that were covering the furniture. These men borrowed our kitchen knives and scratched all our furniture in the act. Mike returned at 11 pm and said he would assemble the furniture. He pretended to look around for the hardware and then informed us that he could not assemble because of missing hardware. By which time we were exhausted and wanted the creepy Mike out of our house. Instead, I overpaid and received my fragile-labeled stuff broken, and there's a few things missing from the shipment. After telling me to check in within a week or two after pickup, Jacob kept saying that they don't know where my stuff is, and so-and-so will be there in an hour and call me back. That never happened. It took a month for the stuff to finally come, which was acceptable, but I was constantly poorly treated for calling to check in (I called no more than 5 times total in one month after them not being able to reach the driver for weeks.) Very unprofessional treatment and behavior. I expected more and would not recommend them to anybody. read more

DO NOT use these movers! They are ripoff artists. We got a call the day after our move from Jacob, telling us that we owed an additional $1,000 for the move. Apparently they had misestimated the cost of the move. They broke many items, including an antique lamp that was worth over $1,000. They offered us $40 if we agreed to remove any negative comments online. We told them to keep their $40 and instead we would complain and warn others. Go with United.....my parents used them to move to Florida from Tennessee and they were amazing....paid them more for their broken mattress than they had requested. We hired 495 movers to move from Maryland to New Jersey. The price estimate includes all the packing supplies. On the day of the move, the movers came promptly on time. 3 men loaded the truck in 3 hours - good packing and friendly folks. They also reached NJ in 4 hours - which was very good. They unloaded in 3 hours and no damage to any furniture. Very professional. They are bit on the pricey side but otherwise, Overall, very good experience. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I used them to remove (now get this) 1 queen size cherry wood bedroom set with a dresser (no mirror) with 2 nightstands; office furniture (2 glass L-shaped desk and a lateral 2 drawer file cabinet); 2 dining set (glass with 4 chairs) and about 15 medium size boxes and 4 extra dining chairs and 2 wing chairs. All of this was being moved into a storage unit - NOT A HOME but STORAGE UNIT. The entire crew was incompetent. Further, only 1 of the crew (the driver/supervisor) understood English!!!! They came 2 hours before scheduled and walked into my house with calling prior to arrival (which was agreed upon) and then caused an issue with my (soon to be) ex-husband. The driver then LIED to his supervisor and stated that he had called prior to coming and had spoken to me. That was an outright lie and later on the supervisor admitted that he checked the driver's phone to see that he had not called prior to his departure from their facility which was against their company procedures. My move was a total mess. The driver and his crew (2 other workers) left and refused to come back unless the police was called to stand and protect him. A TOTAL MESS!!! The company refused to give back my $700+ and since they had my credit card information - I was left at their mercy. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! read more

We did not have a good experience with them. Several things in our house were damaged and they never responded to my email requesting compensation. There was not good communication between the owners and the actual movers about our contract and it took them 9 hrs to move everything! We didn't have an enormous amount of stuff either... Through a lack of communication that was primarily my fault, they did not have a truck large enough when they arrived (on time) to start the move. Very stressful. These guys kicked into high gear and loaded us up, brought in a second truck and more people as quickly as possible, and delivered everything by end of the next day.
