We happened upon this diner after long Sunday brunch lines forced us to consider more a more time sensitive option. They have a nice parking lot and easy to find spot. Menu was very much the epitome of every great breakfast imaginable all for less than $10. Our friends shared pancakes, omelettes, biscuits and gravy, gyro salads, and I settled on steak and eggs. After a long night in Asheville our tummies rumbled and this place delivered. Our food came out possibly faster than it took us to decide what to order. My wife had plenty of extra B&G to share. I opted for the ribeye, breakfast potatoes and over medium eggs. Meat was well seasoned and eggs and potatoes were the perfect compliment. I would eat this breakfast once a week if I could. Atmosphere was quiet and you could hear the boys on the flat top cranking out meals left and right. The service was attentive and accommodating. I was looking for a new breakfast place and after reading the reviews decided to try this place out. Yes the people working here are super friendly and yes it did get busy with people waiting for tables! Yes the coffee was decent and the prices are reasonable. But... I had a couple of eggs over medium and they came looking good on top but runny underneath. That's why i ask for them over medium, to at least ensure none of the whites are moving. The rest of the breakfast was ok, the bacon was crisp, the pancake was nothing to write home about. The grits needed butter and salt. I would have liked the option of real maple syrup. I may be back to try my other diner favorite: cole slaw. And because the server was so nice! read more

Well I wasn't disappointed with the breakfast or the service! Checking out was the issue, I stood at the register for about ten minutes not being acknowledge ( like I was invisible) as other customers came in to pick up food or to be seated. A no fuss breakfast spot that me and my boyfriend like to describe as an elevated Waffle House. The lines will be long, but don't worry, it moves very quickly (unlike another infamous breakfast spot with "Point" in its name.) We were seated at the counter which gave us a front row seat to the kitchen which was chaotic and beautiful at the same time. I went for the eggs benedict with home fries while my boyfriend got their french toast. The eggs benedict was delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached, runny and delicious. Their english muffin was fluffy and delicious as well and the canadian bacon was good. Their home fries are very interesting, more like a cross between hash browns and mashed potatoes. It's hard to describe, but we weren't fans of it. The french toast on the other hand was really delicious. Usually it's covered in berries, fruits, some weird syrup or whip cream but this french toast was as simple as french toast should be. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar and sent on its way. It seems like their whole menu is also available all day because we definitely saw a burger and a fried fish platter served up at 9 AM which is pretty great because their menu has ALOT to offer. read more

Fantastic little old school diner that is simplistic...but good! Traditional diner doing your 3 eggs, bacon/sausage, grits/hash browns, biscuit/toast for about $7! I of course went with soft scrambled eggs with a smoked sausage that was delicious! The 5 Points staff have really put some hard work, heart and soul into their business during an especially challenging time to be a restaurant in Asheville. The interior has been redecorated but has maintained its character. You're going to see the same folks week in and week out and your server will likely remember your "usual" if you show up 3 weeks in a row. The place was packed, I think we got the last table. This place serves breakfast till 2pm and has just about anything you could want. I got the Philly with frys. It was good, differently not the best I have had but it was huge. Lots of food for the price. $9. My friend had the half fried chicken which looked very good and crispy. The other person got a breakfast sandwich and home fries. The sandwich looked pretty normal. If you want classic diner food with no fuss this is your place. My favorite diner in town! I used to go for breakfast every now and then but it has become a regular lunch spot for me and my business partner. Their portions are very affordable and plentiful. I had someone read my prior, 4-star review of 5 Points, and we were both shocked. "You talk about that place all the time like it's the best place in Asheville to put food in your mouth hole--why the four stars?" After careful scrutiny of my prior work, it seems to have to do with 1) no salt in the grits, ever, and 2) a fit of pique on my part. Grits aside (never order the grits), 5 Points is indeed currently the best place in Asheville to get food to put in your mouth hole. The breakfasts are lavish, fit for a king. The biscuits are perfectly fluffy, the bacon perfectly crispy, the coffee overflowing with caffeinated goodness, the pancakes stacked a mile high and doused with strawberry compote. OMG. But what has become my favorite thing about 5 Points is their afternoon fare. It's the perfect place to go for a modestly priced dinner that will just blow your doors off. The burgers are utterly traditional, yet flawless in execution. The patty melt was, hands down, the use of ground beef and American cheese I've ever encountered. Crispy, buttery rye bread, juicy patty cooked to order (I ordered medium), finished off with an abundance of sauteed onions and a volcano of melted cheese. The kind of sandwich that ketchup would ruin. Delicious. Incredible. Restorative. The green beans are my favorite side these days. They're cooked in a lovely homemade tomato sauce and taste very Greek. If you order fish, expect to take half of it home. Portions are beyond generous. I think in a matter of a few years, every congressperson and Presidential candidate will be checking in to 5 points as part of an Americana whistle stop tour, and probably Guy Fieri will be hamming it up for the camera.
