We drove here from Wilmington. We received a free cookie for it being our first time (fresh cookies made right in their kitchen, we had snickerdoodle and they were delicious!) I must say I was not disappointed. The place is mostly kitchen- they have 2 smaller tables in front by the register, the pizzas are made right there, right in front of you! FROM SCRATCH. We've had some well known deep dish pizzas and have paid upwards of 30-45$ for a pie, this place was BETTER and inexpensive!! We had two slices each and decided to leave the other 4 for dinner left overs tomorrow night, I won't lie- I'm pretty darn excited for those leftovers. We got 2 sides of ranch and a side of pepperoncini for .69 c! I honestly will def be coming back for more and recommending it to all we know! Some kid ordered the jaguar fries (which according to one of the chefs are pretty popular with the kids from the school across the street) I eyeballed them and decided I would try that next time. You definitely will want to call ahead before ordering here if you want a deep dish pizza, as we called 30-40 minutes ahead of time then had to wait an additional 20 minutes once we got there, despite them saying that it would only take about 30-40 minutes. The employees are super awesome and very kind. Seating inside the store is extremely limited so don't expect to find a seat. The pizza itself was quite good, though I personally would prefer Doughbox or Masa's over it. The crust has a bit of a cornbread texture/taste to it, and the sauce is sweeter compared to the two aforementioned places, which are saltier in comparison. I wish they used more sauce on top however, as they only have a thin layer. If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try. read more

When I placed my order, the staff answered all my questions over the phone. And when I got to the place, they helped me to my car. My only gripe is the sauce. The dough is pretty solid. The pizza here its pretty good serviceable and a fair value, however the BAKED GOODS are OUTTA THIS WORLD. This is a small place that is mainly to go. I tried the deep-dish personal pizza. The sauce was slightly like marinara whereas I prefer it less sour, but it was moderate. The crust is where lies the opportunity for improvement; a true Chicago deep-dish has a gold crust. It should be almost as if it was deep fried. This was a bit softer, presumably healthier as it is less greasy. I wish the bread and the sauce layers would've been a bit thicker as well. A Little bite of Chicago in little ole Long Beach!!! I read a review about them running out of dough. That actually made me go because it means that the dough is made daily. I ordered a spicy personal deep dish pizza. Upon my first bite I thought of UNOs in Chicago. The crust has a crunchy almost cornmeal bite. The sauce has the spicy yet tangy kick. I personally have not been here and I am not really a fan of pies. 5000 Pies will probably change that when I do check this place out! My sister goes to Cabrillo so every time I pick her up, I always tell her to buy me their cookies and buffalo fries! Cookies are always freshly baked! On a sweeter side, but they're perfect! If you are on a time frame for lunch and want to just pre-order and pick it up , don't do it! My co-workers and I have done this 3 times and the pizzas were never ready or not even started by the pick up time. We even placed the order the day before!!! We show up at the designated time just to find out that they "overlooked" our order leaving us scrambling to find another place for lunch. I mean seriously, they even gave a total cost for our order....3 deep dish pizzas with pepperoni and sausage. Was looking for an alternate pizza joint, tired of the Donimos & Pizza hut stuff. Buono's is okay but had too many bad experiences with delivery. Ran into 5000 Pies on Yelp, did my due diligence and went in on an order. They have deep dish pizza, how can I go wrong? Ordered the medium spinach deep dish, one small personal cheese and one personal pepperoni, and the deep-fried pbjbb (peanut butter and jelly with banana & bacon) for dessert. Spoke with Wilson (?) very nice fella on the phone. Says to order 45 min early on the website, and he reiterated that. I was okay with that because I was sure the kids would be hungry around 6pm anyways... they even called and made a courtesy call to let me know they were going to be a little late (it's friday, understandable). Pies got here, was all warm and ready to eat. Its a legit deep dish, and the pesonal pizzas were just right (maybe a little bit more love on the pepperoni) This pbjbb was extremely good (limit one 1/4 piece per month lol). Fantastic place! I had pizza here once before, but my uncle couldn't remember where he got the pizza. All he knew was that it was on the west side of Long Beach. Fortunately, Google picked it up really quickly. When I checked the menu online, craving a deep dish pizza, there was a list of the prices as well as a clear statement saying that a deep dish could take up to an hour to make, give or take a few minutes. With that knowledge in mind, I ordered my pizza ahead of time over the phone. Once that was handled, they gave me an approximate time of when my pizza would be ready. I got there about 10 minutes after the time (you just never know sometimes) and my pizza was ready to go. Awesome. I wish I could remember the woman at the register (8/13 around 7:15pm) but she was all smiles and very friendly. Made some light conversation, asking how we knew about the spot, etc. Paying was quick and easy, and as we were leaving, she asked if we needed any extra plates, utensils, parmesan, etc. Not having considered that, it was a great idea and a suggestion I greatly appreciated. It definitely came in handy when we got to eating. Is the pizza a little pricy? Sure. Is it worth it? AND THEN SOME!!!! We got the Spinach Deep Dish... and MAN! With the spinach, cheese underneath the chunky, beautifully seasoned tomato sauce, this pizza is life changing. The pizza wasn't tasty, the ingredients (especially tomato sauce) underwhelmed. Didn't taste like quality or fresh ingredients. I'm comparing this to similarly priced pizzas in LA such as Masa or Slice Truck. An example would be the sausage used, bland and gets lost in the taste, whereas the sausage at Masa stands out from other flavors in the pizza. Half star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Definitely not. I probably won't go back. Which really bums me out because I love pizza and I was excited about deep dish in Long Beach. Was told it would take 10 min for chicken to be baked for my salad. Which I accept since I did not call in my order. Chicken takes 10 min to cook yet for some reason the salad is being prepared after the chicken is done. Why am I waiting that additional time when It could have been prepared while the chicken was cooking? I waited an additional 7 min for the salad to very slowwwwllyy be prepared. What an amazing hole in the wall place. I ordered the chocolate pecan pie and I will say that is one of the best pies I have ever had. The ingredients are fresh and it is appropirately priced (not cheap, but not super over-priced). I don't know the full details of the community involvement, but it appears that a lot of their staff were high school age. They have individual pies, known as hand pies, which are made on a daily basis so that they may run out. The crust is great and the fillings are solid. I did not get the pizza pie, but I assume that they are good as well. Give it a shot and try it out. Normally, I do not write reviews until I have tried the place at least a few times. I will make an exception for 5000 pies. The place is quite small; do not come here with a huge group. I would also suggest you call and order pizza; it can take up to an hour if you ordered one of their deep dish pizzas. The staff seemed were very nice they would cheerfully greet you once you step in through the door. As for their food, I have no complaints. I ordered 12 of their cookies for $4 and a spicy deep dish pizza. I never had a deep dish pizza before and now I can see what the fuss is about. It is literally a pie. There is a crust and it is filled with ingredients. Unlike traditional pizza, where they are placed on top of the dough instead of filled in. My spicy pie actually had some heat to it and the cookies, I have to say, they were really good; soft and chewy. Overall, if you are near by, give this place a shot.
