Greek omelet with home fries and marble rye
    Mollie M.

Wish we'd tried the 50's Diner sooner! The sign outside is faded and easy to miss, but they do not need it. The restaurant was packed, they clearly have a following and regulars, and the inside of the restaurant is in great shape. Ignore the sign, they have good priorities. There was a line out the door when we got there, but service moved quick. The waitstaff was friendly but efficient. We enjoyed the food very much. We got a greek omelet (with no tomatoes) and a western omelet and an iced and hot coffee. I always feel like the greek omelet says a lot about a diner, and this one had real kalamata olives and good feta. A+ from both my husband and I. I LOVED the pink formica and of course the requisite 50's wall decor. The bar seating looked fun, but we sat in a booth. We'll be back, I'm going to want some grapenuts pudding sometime.

Had take out so can't vouch for the interior, but appears very cool and retro. Menu seems more fit for a breakfast/brunch, but I had lunch with the Classic Club. Highly recommend this sandwich, I got no bacon but you can do as you please. Great sauce and lots of chicken and fries.

Been here before and had wonderful experiences with food and service. Not today babay! Myself and 1 elderly guest came in today and we waited to be seen for 15 minutes as they seated folks at the bar. We didn't get a smile, greeting, not even a "please wait while we get ourselves together " we just stood there looking insanely ridiculous!!!! I asked for the manager to explain and lo and behold we have a seat! Go figure! At this point, I'm not even waiting to taste the food before I review. If ignoring us was racially motivated, that really sucks! On the other hand, they may just be hiring incompetent, and careless staff. Will probably be another 3 years before I visit again!

I was in Dedham for an early morning appointment and stopped to the 50s diner for breakfast. It was easy to find and had parking. I was surprised that they were cash only but said okay knowing I would need to use the ATM inside the restaurant. I was greeted promptly and being a solo diner asked if I wanted to sit at the counter or a table. I chose a table. The menu was at the table and had both breakfast and lunch items. The interior was decorated 50s themed with decor and pictures. Service was quick and fast price point was great! I got the breakfast burrito for 6.50 and a side of French toast for 3.70 along with a cranberry juice. To total was less than $15! Great deal and yummy breakfast. If I'm ever in the area again I'll return.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch on President's Day and had an enjoyable experience. The diner does not take reservations and there was a long line, but it moved pretty quickly. (A sign of a great restaurant is when there's a line out the door)! We waited about 20-25 mins to be seated. This place is cash-only, but that's part of its fifties era charm. They are not open for dinner, but their breakfast and lunch menus are huge and have a lot of variety. The restrooms were clean, which is of great importance to me when writing a review! The food was fresh and delicious- I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and he got the Classic Club Sandwich with fries and a side of fruit. We were pleased with the value. The portions were generous and we spent about $40 for the two of us. Our server was attentive and checked in on us frequently. The ambience is low key, casual, and very much how I envision a real fifties diner would have been. There are photos of Elvis on the wall! Even though it's busy, the tables are spaced far enough apart so that it doesn't feel crowded. It was actually pretty quiet and we had no trouble hearing each other. I would definitely come back here for lunch and I also want to try their brunch since the menu looks really good! I'm so glad I stumbled on this hole-in-the-wall diner which is a true gem!

First time eating here. I was in the area shopping and the frappes on their website looked yummy. And yes, they were. I ordered one and apparently it comes as two. Bonus! Though I wasn't expecting it. I tried my best two drink both and took the second in a to go cup. It was very light and the cream on top was delicious. Had the hot dog with fries. It was good. My waitress was very nice. The only downfall was being placed at the table at the men's room door. I understand because it was only me they didn't want to seat me at the bigger table, but it's not the best to eat food. I find it gross. Other than that, cute little place.

All the white of the egg was cooked. The yellow was just runny enough. We got onions in our home fries and they were grilled Just perfect as well. The coffee was never ending the hubby ended up getting the Scott special which has three eggs, sausage, patties, toast, and red home fries potatoes. This is definitely a hidden jewel in Dedham. I'm probably making a mistake putting on this review because people are going to find it and I will never be able to get in the door again. The servers name was Jane. She was out of this world right on top of everything. Our coffee cup was never empty. That to me is the best part of any meal going out. Looking forward to coming back. They are closed from July 2nd to July 18th for vacation also. Check them out u won't be disappointed.

It's colorful, it's groovy, it's bright, it's nostalgic. Even the employees are wearing shirts with funky themes and patterns. There are TVs showing shows from back then. The floors are checkered, the ceiling is silver, the chairs are red and the tables are blue. We were seated at a booth, which can more than comfortably sit 4-6 people. The menu is HUGE, think cheesecake factory but for a diner. There's a little bit of everything but the font and everything around it makes it hard to focus on what each item is. I went very simple and chose the Simon and Garfunkel which included two pancakes or French toast, two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, toast, and home fries for $18.99. After about 15 minutes, our food came out. The bacon could have been crispier, with some parts being wobbly. The sausage was thick, juicy, and savory. The potatoes were a little bland and mushy on the outside. The eggs were cooked medium, just how I requested them, and the englush muffin was a little different than your traditional ones since it didn't have the little pockets of air but it was still good. The French toast was moist, but I wish it had more cinnamon - the egg was the dominant flavor. Overall, it was a very satisfying breakfast. There is plenty of parking as it's in a plaza

PATTY MELT REVIEW…read more Iconic diner on the edge of Chinatown, a couple blocks east of the Expressway. It's been around for decades and it's open 24/7. More of an authentic this-place-has-aged feel than the typical diner attempt to evoke an earlier era. Went in the morning and went for a patty melt-- because I could. It's too elusive these days, so being able to not only find one but have it at breakfast, a double win. Double patty is standard, not an add-on, and fries (probably frozen, but lengthy, crisp and fluffy) are included. No onions, no rye, but lettuce and tomato-- a non-traditional configuration. Nicely browned patties that had juiciness. The ingredients weren't anything to write home about, but the execution was great all around and so was the cheerful service from a seasoned veteran. Sure, I've had better with the proper rye, griddled onions, and higher quality beef, but an easy 4 stars for the execution, value, vibe, and being able to even order a patty melt before 10 in the morning. Bonus points for a plastic ketchup squeeze bottle that was slightly warm. Breakfast items (eggs, crispy home fries, and pancakes) on a neighboring table looked good.

South Street Diner was one of the few places open that early, so I decided to give it a try. Parking was easy at that hour, and I thought it was kind of cool seeing a classic diner tucked in among all the large office buildings downtown. I was in the mood for pancakes and ended up ordering the diner special with eggs over medium, home fries, corned beef hash, bacon, and pancakes. Unfortunately, the food was mostly average to below average. The eggs were a little underdone, the home fries were slightly overcooked in spots, and the toast was pretty standard diner fare. The homemade salsa was actually a nice touch and added some flavor to the potatoes. The biggest disappointment was the corned beef hash. I was hoping for something homemade, but it reminded me of the canned version I grew up eating. The texture and flavor just weren't for me, and I ended up leaving most of it behind. The pancakes were okay but a little dense and doughy, nothing particularly memorable. On the positive side, the coffee was decent, the service was fine, and being open early is definitely a plus for travelers. Overall, I'd put this one close to 3 stars. It's convenient if you need breakfast before sunrise, but the food didn't quite live up to what I was hoping for.
