Was back in RI after moving to GA 8 years ago and had to load up on the great New England cuisine I was missing. I knew Jack's would be on the " must visit" list and I was NOT disappointed. The owner/chef (?) came to the table asking if there was anything else we might enjoy. Fabulous service. While the deco is truly retro from when first opened in the 1970s, ( but very clean) the food is why I go! Our party had eggplant parm, scrod, smelts in special sauce, & shrimp Mozambique. The sauce for smelts does have a bite to it if you have issues with spicy foods). We left with many leftovers to enjoy another day. Their luncheon menu is very reasonably priced and ample portions. Wow! This place is amazing! The service makes me feel like I'm over at a friend's house... a friend whose parents happen to make the best Italian food. A few favorites - fried smelts for an app. My little one barely shared with us the first time we went. We asked for the sauce on the side. I don't know what is in it, but I could practically drink it. - The Godfather. You can't go wrong with this platter. The surprise was the eggplant parm. It was so delicate and flavorful! There are few places we can go with a kid and feel like the space is a treat for the parents and still great for the kids! Been coming here since the 80's, always get the same thing; Jack's Red special seafood spaghetti paired with a tall gin & tonic. Quaint atmosphere with the same old tiled floors and bistro tables. Has a separate bar that is always full with folks waiting for tables on Thursday, Friday and Saturday dinner hours. Lots of seashore scene paintings and various vintage knick knacks framed by little strings of blinking lights. In honor of Mothers Day there is a pink tree adorned with photos of family Mothers and Grandmothers. Good food and drinks are as good as ever, it's been a long time since we were last here as we moved to Connecticut many years ago but we crave that spaghetti. They do not share the recipe so don't ask. We do our best to replicate it though. read more

We hadn't been here in years and decided to go back. I have to admit the food is still great but a couple of other things really bothered me. We sat at the bar and ordered a veal parm sandwich to split. No where on menu does it say a charge to split!!to my surprise when bill arrived it read 4 dollars and some change as a split charge ! It also read one dollar something for not using cash. What is wrong here?!! You have great food, you want the parking lot filled so why do this? Oh by the way the sangria is already made in containers and did not taste like sangria. As I said food is still great. Let's work on everything else to get a crowd here! Jack's still serves the best Shrimp Mozambique. Perfectly cooked shrimp in a sauce that is perfect for dunking your bread in. They still serve pasta by the pound which makes it a great place to bring your family. The service is attentive and friendly. After all of these years, it is still a fun and casual place to eat. read more

We've been going to Jack's for many years. The food is always great. The "special" spaghettis, both white and red, are outstanding. We had the antipasto platter, marinated smells, crams casino, & calamari. Everything was delicious. The service, by our waitress Jessica, was outstanding. She is very attentive and personable. It goes without saying that we will be back. I find few places that I'm willing to drive 45 minutes for, but Jack's is one of the few. read more

I have been coming here for years since I was a kid & have always enjoyed my experience from the service to the food and ambiance. Last time I came here in 2012. Everything remained unchanged their spaghetti is killer. I got a double portion. It's the perfect place for family gathering & celebrations. I'd recommend this place for any family or friends traveling up to Southern New England for a vacation or a family visit. If you're looking for something to do after you're dining experience I recommend going across the street for a few games of duckpin. If I was in the league playing across the street I would recommend this place to the guys for lunch. In close I would say come on in you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu as I've also had some apps from the churico & many other items. Jack's is a hidden gem. My family has been going there for years for events and they never disapoint. I've eaten at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, including Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernadin, yadda yadda. It's embarrassing and ridiculous where I've eaten. And Jacks is the one that I never stop thinking about. It's not sophisticated or complicated. It's pretty rustic overall. Think service and decor. But... The flavor is otherworldly. Their smelts are probably the best on the planet (who else even serves smelts these days?). The red sauce they use is spectacular. We take a few pints home with us every time we go. Again, speaking as someone who has been to some of the finest restaurants in the world, Jack's Family Restaurant needs to be included in multipl "Top" lists. The food is so spectacular. I have given a review in the past but this is an update. We got there and had a short wait. No problem. We get seated and wait 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us. We order our drinks and appetizers. Another 15 minutes go by, finally drinks but no appetizers. 10 minutes later, apps and antipasto show up. We order our food. 30 minutes later, food arrives. Although it was amazing as always, we are almost 2 hours in. I had the portugese/Italian combo. Wife had the fried shrimp platter. I would have given 5 stars for the food but the service was 0 stars so I averaged to 3. I asked for the check and even had to wait 20 minutes for her to come back and get my credit card. It was a fantastic eating experience but a horrible service experience. I will go back as I've been a customer for the last 40 years. I love Victor and Maria but they should rethink their service crew. Not the same smooth service I am used to. Hate leaving a bad review but I have to tell the truth. read more

Absolutely amazing seafood pasta! Fried calamari is soooooo good. I drove 750 miles today just to eat here. Mmmmm I mean seriously folks the absolute best calamari on the planet Earth and I've had calamari on several continents, and all across these great United States, plus they have an amazing seafood pasta that is not to be duplicated, believe me I've tried. Absolutely a must anytime you're anywhere near Rhode Island you have to go to Warren and stop at Jack's. The fried clams and all apps alone are worth the trip, and any of the Portuguese dishes will stand up to Portuguese fair anywhere, So, Italian, Portuguese, fresh fish, it's all there and more. read more

Really nice atmosphere, courteous service and obviously fantastic food. For goodness sakes, they have a picture of Buddy Cianci by the hostess station. We stopped by on St. Patrick's Day 2023 and were told it was a 30 min wait for a seat. That was completely understandable and we had no problem waiting. My husband went to the bar to grab us drinks while we waited. There were two women working the bar - the older woman had a scowl on her face. He asked them politely and was told by the older woman in a unfriendly tone "it's gonna be a while" - he proceeded to wait for 10 min while they both ignored my husband and helped everyone else at the bar. They both then disappeared behind the bar and never came back and served him. We were so upset with the poor treatment that we left. We will be telling ALL of our friends and family of the terrible experience we had! We will never go back. read more

The first thing you smell when you walk in is old oil. The place is run down. The bar area looks like you've walked into someone's basement bar that hasn't been stocked or used in 20 years. When we walked in we saw many open tables. The crotchety server said " Its gonna be awhile and I ain't servin' at the bar either!" Ok, bye! We will never attempt to go back. read more

We decided to pop in here for an early dinner one day. Decor is for sure outdated but the food was phenomenal! The service was also incredible! Clams casino was amazing! We ordered the small (which still gave us 12). Crab cakes were also great (the spicy sauce that comes with it was so good!) Stuffed shells were great and we definitely had enough for leftover. After hearing verbal negatives from two locals I had to see for myself. Web site projects a fine menu; seafood, meats, sandwiches and, as you'd expect, Portuguese offerings. Other reviews note unhelpful , slow staff and poor wine list. I was forewarned. Upon entering at about 7:15 on a Thursday evening I found a couple eating at the cozy but dated bar. I'd call it charm, others said old . There seemed to have been one couple in the dining room but I didn't look in to intrude. Bartender couldn't have been nicer nor more engaging. Knowing in advance that my wine choice was limited I got the house version of Chardonnay which was fine. The dining room waitress stoped by several times to chat. I chose baked Scrod with some Italian spices covered with Mozzarella. I found it moist, cooked perfectly and tasty. Accompanied by rolls, salad, choice starch and choice of vegetable, for 18.00 I thought it a great deal. Interestingly, while I was there, numerous people came in to pick up large take-out orders. That night, the bulk of their business was take-out. By the time I was ready to leave I was by myself. That's the only negative I found. It's kind of weird being the only one in a bar/restaurant at 9:00. At any rate, not only did I find all the negatives overstated, I liked the place, I liked the food and I'll go back and bring others. There's something that I love about Jack's. I find it hard to be impartial, as I feel like I practically grew up there. My favorites include: Portuguese soup, it's like my grandma used to make. Clam cakes, very underrated. Smelts, well done with the marinade sauce on the side. Fish n' chips, ask for the fish the old way (lightly floured, no thick batter). Sirloin with garlic and wine sauce, I can smell that sauce just thinking about it. Its simple but delicious. Baked fish b&b, classic New England style! And of course, the baked stuffed lobster with langostinos, when they are in stock I'll be in two days in a row for them during my visits. Living in Texas makes me nostalgic for Jack's and I can't wait to get back for more. See you in a year (hopefully sooner). I stopped in on July 8, 2015 with my 4 kids. We are not from the area so I stumbled up Jacks by chance...I am glad we did. The service was super friendly and the place had a down home feel. Nothing fancy, just good food and excellent staff. I had the Little Neck clams as an appetizer, while the kids had NE Clam Chowder. The clams were fresh and the kids loved the soup. House salad was very fresh. The kids had burgers, I won't comment on them because I was here for seafood and could care less whether or not the burgers were good, frozen, or fresh. For my entree I asked for the baked cod, but wanted it cooked with minimal additives (eating light so did not want any oil/butter added). the chef used chicken stock and lemon juice (thanks!) and it was excellent. Steamed broccoli on the side...also well done. If I am ever back in the area I will certainly go back...and next time I will try some of the fried foods!!! read more

I have lived in warren my entire life and only frequented Jacks once about 20 years ago. My husband and I decided to take some extended family on Saturday because I have always heard the seafood was awesome. Not caring for seafood myself i was unsure about the menu. I couldn't be more wrong. I had chicken francaise which was delicious, tender and a double serving in my mind. The entire family was pleased. I went there once with my parents. My father had Portuguese soup and found a piece of metal such as one from the sos pads. My chicken tenders were like warm and seemed undercooked or even frozen and my Mothers codfish was swimming in grease. Completely bad food quality even though the waitress Jessica was the best. Best seafood on the East Coast and if you should be lucky enough to eat there, a must try on the Red Seafood Special Spaghetti. It's too bad Jacks's no longer lives up to legacy. In all fairness, some items are still good. The fried smelts and pasta with olive oil were tasty. The salad was surprisingly fresh. Unfortunately the wine by the glass was undrinkable and the red sauce was a total disappointment. Chicken Parmesan was over-cooked. Glasses were dirty. Service was generally inattentive and distracted throughout the evening despite a mostly empty dining room. Understaffed, very slow service, so don't bother if time is limited. Onion rings are good as are the clams casino. Little necks garlic and oil are salty. Portuguese pork is a little different from what I'm used to as it has carrots, cauliflower and kalamata olives in it, but the pork was nice and tender and the dish had a nice flavor. Don't bother with the pitcher of sangria as for $26 it's mostly ice. read more
