Seeing all of the 4 and 5 star reviews, we had to stop in and try. Had a large party of teenagers to feed. Unfortunately, the burgers, fries, chicken tenders, French dip, meatloaf, and other sandwiches just did not meet expectations. Very under seasoned and bland. Hugely disappointed after entering such a fun and retro atmosphere. However, the entire staff was outstanding with their customer service. They were accommodating for such a large party and split the checks with no hesitation. Delivered food quickly and refills never had to be asked for. They all worked very hard for us. This place is actually a new building and not the original 66 Diner. It burned a few years ago and was closed for awhile. But it was so popular and we all missed it so much that they got their act together and re-built. Thanks guys! It would have been a big empty space in my eating agenda, if you hadn't. I give this place a FIVE. Five for atmosphere, five for food & five for service . . . . hey that makes them a 15! I love going here! It is very casual, typical diner food that takes you back to the days when you asked for a cherry coke you got a real cherry coke. Not something out of a can with a metallic taste. Great burgers & shakes & sandwiches. If you are going to order a piece of the yummy pies, be sure you save room. They are decent size pieces of pie, not some little skinny sliver. Warm with ice cream . . mmmm . . Green chili stew / soup is Hot, but oh so tasty. Actually, I've never had anything but "5" food here. Worth a trip when you are really hungry. Or when you just need an afternoon pick-me-up. My favorite thing is their itty-bitty ice cream sundae. It used to be served in a shot glass (until too many were stolen). Now it comes in a shot glass size plastic dish. My recommendation is that they put their logo on real shot glasses and buy them by the gross, bump the price up a few cents and let the customers take them home. Great advertising! I love anything and everything about The Mother Road. And Albuquerque is so rich in the history and memory of this famous road. Finding places connected to Route 66 is such fun. The 66 Diner honors those times from long ago and if this is a part of Americana you relish, you will love eating here. Fabulous interior with the walls filled with old signs and photographs. You will spend a bit of time just looking at it all. You'll be seated in old-style booths and served by friendly ladies wearing old-style diner dresses. This is my absolute favorite place to go for what i call a "comfort burger", my comfort food, they make it exactly the way I like it...with pepper jack, lots of pink in the middle and a fried egg on top. And a side of 66 fries! I'm a sucker for this schtick; I love oldies and doo-wop, they have a jukebox. Collectors items, they have hundreds of pez dispensers and wall to wall motorist memorabilia. Loved the atmosphere and the milkshakes are indeed to die for. I asked them to make me a chocolate banana cream pie shake (banana cream is listed on the menu) but wanted a chocolate one. they were great about doing this and our waiter was attentive and very nice. Hubby and I decided on the cheeseburger with the hot stuff on the side. We wanted to split it with fries. The cook was kind enough to even cut it for us (though we hadn't asked) which was great of him to do. We both love a diner atmosphere and this one didn't disappoint. I would say we usually are disappointed in the food but in the case of the 66 diner we were not and wouldn't hesitate to return again. This place is a great nostalgic atmosphere to experience if you're in the area. I ordered the "66 burger" which was equipped with cheese, green chilies, and bacon all on patty. I happened to walk into this place to see if they had a strawberry cheesecake shake and luckily it was the flavor of the month! Also it was happy hour so shakes and appetizers are half off from 2-5! The shake was delicious! I liked it even better than Sonic which is my go-to staple place for my strawberry cheesecake shake. I also got the fried zucchini for half off. Very good! There's a certain kind of magic to this place. The staff are friendly with kids, and sitting at the booth and getting a shake never gets old. My son wants to come here above all other ice cream joints because it's so cool. So treat your kid to that lifetime memory and order them a shake. Holy crap! Where to start? Everything we had here was amazingly good! I personally got the chicken fried chicken with fries and onion rings. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly, was juicy, and had great crunchiness! The fries were good by themselves, but after trying my wife's fries with cheese and chilies, I have to say, those are the best fries I have ever eaten! They were nice and creamy/cheesy with a great spice from the chilies. I just have no other words than AMAZING! The onion rings were also pretty yummy and sweet, but I think the fries made me forget I had onion rings. Oops! Sorry onion rings! Besides the food tasting delicious, the staff was nice and helpful as well. The inside of the diner looks pretty cool and looked nostalgic. It made think of how it must have been in its prime when Route 66 was the main way to travel. If you have a chance, I would suggest you give them a try. Excellent food and service. I adore 50s themes and music. Very friendly, jovial, pleasant, prompt, cheerful, caring staff. You simply can't ask for better. The food was scrumptious; fresh, smelled incredible, ample and frankly beautiful, with some locally grown ingredients! Very highly skilled cooks. Perfect. I noticed plenty of floor space where the booths are, so why no adult sized booths? We're not overweight, just tall (6'3, 6'3 and 6'4). The average persons and with children are fine, cozy and comfortable. We made do, but generous sized booths, especially with ample floor space like they have, would add a lot to the experience. First time trying out this place, let me tell you...it was definitely worth it! I ordered myself a classic diner favorite "Chicken Fried Steak"! Very filling, order was cooked to perfection! The vegetables that I ordered as a side with it was delicious well cooked and seasoned. **UPDATE** My wife and I went back to this place about 1 month ago and everything was nice and clean. You can tell that they had just recently wiped the menus clean because they were still kinda wet. Food was good. I ate a chicken fried chicken with cheese and green chile. But the brownie sundae with cool whip and nuts was to die for. Delicious. The place needs some cleaning especially the Menus. Stopped here after Balloon Fiesta for lunch because the vintage sign wall outside caught our eye the day prior. This diner had a short 10 minute wait around 11 when we arrived. We then went outside to take photos and when we came back in were seated. Our waitress Fernanda was great and knowledgeable about my gluten free needs and quickly offered me a separate menu (photo). I ordered a simple BLT and my husband had the Pile Up (based on our waitress recommendation). He really enjoyed the Pile Up. My kids shared a grilled cheese. To finish up our trip we indulged in an ice cream sundae which was delicious and big enough for four people to share. The restaurant is cool inside. The walls are lined in old antique items and there is a ledge on the top of the wall with tons of Pez dispenser. Tons to look at. While traveling on Rout 66 we had to have lunch at the 66 Diner. What a cool place. The atmosphere was that of a 50's diner. All the decorations and memorabilia were from the axe when going out on a date of for a shake was a big deal. Now to the food! Sara had Chicken fried Chicken with the daily vegetable (asparagus). The chicken was excellent but the asparagus was out of a can and it was POOR! I had a hamburger and a side of coleslaw. My burger was real good and the coleslaw was on point. We ordered a side of onion rings and when the food came out, our server, Mark, said he forgot the onion rings. He then went on to say that this was only his 4th shift. So we gave him the benefit of the new job thing. The onion rings came out as we were halfway through the meal but they were very good and very hot. Overall I would say that we would eat here again and probably have a root beer shake next time. They looked amazing. I've always enjoyed a visit to Route 66 Diner when staying or passing through Albuquerque. However on 9/7/19 I was appalled at what I observed while sitting at the counter. Those working at the counter clearly have not been trained or don't care about maintaining sanitary conditions. I observed one employee wipe down the counter of melted ice cream and spilled chocolate sauce only after I mentioned it to her. She then used the same wash cloth to wipe down the stirring blades on the milk shake machines. Again this is after she wiped down the counter! I hope better conditions are maintained in the kitchen. Word to the wise avoid the ice cream and milk shakes! read more

Airlines don't provide food, and if they did, it wouldn't be worth eating, so my friends are usually ravenous. This is a great way to introduce them to New Mexican cuisine. If they balk at Chiles, there is plenty of traditional fare to satisfy them. The place is a hoot. I love it, and my guests love it, too. The building is from the Art Deco Diner school of architecture. The decor is '50s eclectic. Sit on a stool at the long counter and rub elbows with serious eaters, who more likely than not will strike up a conversation with you, and you will feel like you have made a new friend. The food is '40s, '50s, and '60s diner food, and the decorations are from the same era. Elvis. Marilyn. Fords and Chevys. Music from that period blares from the jukebox. My favorites: Chicken Fried Chicken with green chile gravy. Green Chile Cheeseburgers (good, not great). Meatloaf, liver and onions, and lots of familiar dishes that your mother made for you. Came by this spot for lunch today, I have been here once maybe twice before(before I was a Yelper). The ambiance is on par with what you would expect a 66 diner to be, and the service was good but not great. My meal today was just ehhh. I got the huevos rancheros with red and green Chile. I asked for both on the side because I wasn't sure I'd like either. When the dish came the red and green was on the my food, not on the side like I asked. For the sake of a lunch break I just dealt with it....The eggs were cooked well but the Chile had pretty much no flavor or spice at all. Had I got a green Chile cheeseburger and a milk shake, my rating may have been a star higher, but based on the huevos, I'm going with the 2stars. read more

We came here wanting to do a 50's/pin up shoot and we asked permission first to do it and they were really nice about it and said yes as long as we don't bother anyone. The historic route 66 spawned multiple diners through the good ol days and this one feels like it stays loyal to that idea. Outside the diner bunch of old signs from back in the day plastered on a wall in the parking lot. They also have the neon lightning on the restaurant. Inside they have everything you could want from a diner including juke box, checkered tile floors, bar stools, coca cola emblems, dr, pepper emblems. They also have a gas pump and a old coca cola soda dispenser. The booths are beautiful and retro and just everything makes you feel like you are in the 50's. The only thing missing here is a red convertible! Now enough about rambling about the decor. We ordered milk shakes and fries since we weren't terribly too hungry at all. We each ordered a Vanilla shake, and a Banana shake. The shakes were plentiful and even extra were given in steel cups. The fries were okay. The bill ran up to $17 or so dollars but for the photo shoot alone, it was worth it! read more

Very satisfying breakfast diner experience! I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the hubby ordered the ham and cheese omelet. The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was savory and delish!!! It came with 2 eggs and hash browns which was awesome. My husbands omelet was also pretty good and an excellent portion too. His order came with some toast. I just craved the gravy to have more meat pieces or beefy flavor to it. And the hubby wasnt too thrilled about the flavor of the cheese and ham but compared to the Loyalas spot we had the other day, this place definitely beats it. Same goes for the biscuits and gravy here. I was super tempted to get a millshake at 8 am lol. Their selection just looked amaze balls! This is a favorite lunch spot as it's very near my office. From team lunches to just getting away for an hour with a friend, I'm a big fan of the diner. I usually get the Philly with no bread or a burger with no bun. One of my favorite things about the diner is that there are often international tourists visiting, and it's really fun to watch someone get so excited about all the Route 66 goodies, Pez dispensers and just the general vibe in the place. Solid diner food, solid diner kitsch. I had the green chili cheeseburger with fries and added a side of brown gravy. Once the weather turns cool I like a little gravy on my fries once in awhile. Maybe because fries are not bad enough for you by themselves. I also had a chocolate milk shake. They asked if I wanted it with chocolate ice cream or vanilla. Um, it's a chocolate shake, right? Apparently if you get it with chocolate ice cream they still bombard the concoction with chocolate syrup so prepare to be overloaded with chocolate and sugar.
