Regardless of what I order, there is an expectation and a rapport, a call and a response, that happens whenever, and with whomever, I place my order. Each time, I give my real name (SCOTT!) rather than an alias or a nom-de-plume, knowing that the soon-to-be-perfect transaction will be cordial and without drama. But what if, instead of falling in New York City, the meteors that turned out to be ships holding terrifying aliens, bent on using echolocation to find and consume humans, fell at the College Park Marketplace Shopping Center instead? Would the service of this particular Starbucks remain excellent and the lattes and the Herbal Mint Majesty teas still be served steaming hot? Would they take orders during claps of thunder, downpours of rain, and howling winds? I don't know exactly when it happened, but they got rid of self-checkout at this location. And apparently that's the case for all of them now! It seems to not matter what time or what day I come, the lines are always long and don't move very quickly. There are one or two items that I get here that I can't find other places, but I find myself coming less and less since they are not a necessity. I have to set aside time just to be mindful of the long line wait. I'm not sure why they took the self-check out away, but I do hope it's something that they reinstate some time in the future. Almost every other grocery store I know as them and it makes life so much easier. At the very least, have more than two registers open at once.

It was an impromptu visit, so I did not purchase much. I really wanted to look around and select a few items while doing so. At first glance, the organization, flow and cleanliness of the produce department captured my attention. All of the produce presented nicely and it looked fresh. The prices appeared a little high for some items, but as the adage says, "You get what you pay for". I purchased mostly produce. The navel oranges and pink grapefruit were huge. They were also deliciously sweet and juicy. Before going to the checkout area, I moved along to other areas of the store and found consistency with the level of cleanliness. I ended the visit in the area with health supplements. In my opinion, the selection was relatively extensive for a grocery store. I was able to find what I needed and then walked to the checkout lane. Many of the items purchased were either on sale or discounted with the store's rewards member card. Since this was my first visit, I did not have a card, so the cashier used the complimentary store card. She informed me that I could sign up for a card at the customer service desk. The checkout process was fast. Finally, I walked over to the customer service desk to apply for a store card. The customer service supervisor/manager was nice. While processing the card, she made friendly, small talk, which was pleasant. The reward's card process seemed a little extensive unlike many other stores, but it was fine. Overall, I had a good shopping experience here and I will definitely return.

Alright!!! I now have an ALDI that's as close to me as LIDL is! The grocery store game for me has…read morebeen transformed! I decided to stop in for the grand opening to enjoy the hype. People everywhere, balloons blessing the entrance, and fresh, fully stocked shelves of the products I've grown to love! I found most of my staples were easy to find -- though, I most admit the layout and order of some things were different than what I was expecting. I was also surprised at how short the lines were despite the crowd! I think it was the fact that everyone was so busy shopping and not actually in line haha! My only wish is I didn't have to wait outside so long in the cold! Otherwise... welcome to the neighborhood, ALDI!
