There is a tall, older man with glasses who works there a lot and likes to pick on kids. My son has had several negative encounters with him and just had the most HORRIBLE experience a kid could have. He was hungry and I had to work so I gave him a stack of one dollar bills to buy something to eat. The man at the counter first ordered my son to organize the bills before handing them over. Then he gave the bills back to my son and took the food away from him and told him to "come back when you have real money". On his way out my son dropped a dollar and the man told him, "you dropped one, dumb ass." This is not okay. He would not treat an adult man that way. My son came home sad and hungry. There are so many things wrong with this interaction and the epicenter of the awfulness is this man. My son is 12. We live a few blocks away and I like that he can be independent and go there on his own. Now he doesn't want to go there because of the man and I don't blame him. Why is that man still there? After this experience I read the bad reviews he's received for treating other kids this way. What an awful experience for a kid. read more

This is my go to 7-11 when visiting UCSC. It's off the main Street getting to UC Santa Cruz entrance and very hidden in a safe area near new condos and a laundry mat. Cashiers are usually cool. Always last stop of the night for milk , candy and desserts for the stay over night at the motels in downtown Santa Cruz. Closest 7-11 next to University California Santa Cruz so pretty sure lots of students and faculty come here all the time. Can't beat the location . Lots of parking and lightage on the premises. read more

11/26/24-Absolute HORRIBLE service/behavior from a slender, bald & grumpy man in his 60's. My two young boys (7 & 9) went inside to look at possible gift cards to get their dad for Christmas. I stayed outside because I had a dog with us. They left the store fairly quick. I asked them what was wrong and they said "the guy working was following us around and told us to put the cards back." This man then told them to "leave and get out of here if you're not going to buy anything." I went back to go have a conversation with him but my kids were adamant we leave right away. What a MISERABLE man to make two little kids feel like they did something wrong. Additional information, the 3 of us have walked here frequently over the years to just browse and look at all the items and their ingredients. Sometimes we buy stuff and other times we don't. No one has ever treated us this way! In fact, most cashiers seem to think it's great my kids walk in by themselves, look around for what they'd like, and make their purchase on their own with their own money. Really upsetting this employee assumed my kids were going to steal and was annoyed with their presence enough to tell them to buy something or leave. Won't be back again. read more

UPDATE: If you need something last minute, Never fear, get it here! The gal working was constantly cleaning and it looks very good today. The products on the shelves were all pulled forward. I believe someone, went above and beyond, in cleaning. I bet it was the hard working gal. She never stopped working, the whole time I was there. Just last week I was here and this place looked messy I would suggest they keep this gal. The outside area was clean and there wasn't anyone begging for money or passed out in front. This review has one purpose. I am hoping management sees it and gets the coffee machine fixed. I have been coming to this location since September and if you press any of the buttons for the lattes or macchiatos, all that comes out is plain hot water. I haven't said anything until now because at least one of the dispensers actually produced a coffee mixture, but I went there tonight and it's officially only hot cocoa. Please fix it! Those coffee drinks are my main reason to stop by there. read more

Went in this morning was helped by a miserable girl with curly hair of course she didn't have a name tag on but who would when you act that horrible. She wasn't at the register when I went up to pay she came out of the back room I said hello she didn't say a word to me or gave me my total. She was awful. You have to love a 7-11 that stops serving alcohol at 10/10:30 PM... which is also located near about 7,000 first year college students who are a mission to get plastered every weekend. My hats off to the individuals who work at this location-- I would have my shot gun cocked and loaded on my hip, and have a hand grenade in the other-- probably with a big twitch in my left eye. Coming here meant one of three things when I was going to UCSC 1) I was high and wanted those god awful burritos and some diet coke 2) I was designated driver and while were grabbing 40s, I was getting some energy drink that tasted like crap 3) This is where folks meet up to then head over to the party that was down the street. The memories: I have purchased a ridiculously expensive cheap camera here when I forgot mine at home during graduation. I have seen folks get the @#$# kicked out of them outside the store I have "stocked up" on coffee and other junk food items before heading to a major conference down south driving those ghetto ass UCSC vans I usually make it to this location once or twice a year... usually on a whim after going up to campus for a lecture series, chaperoning or going up to help with a conference. It is always clean and the same guy is always working there-- super polite. read more

Crummy. Most importantly, this 7-11 always smells DISGUSTING. (After reading other reviews of 7-11s, I realized that some smell like crap because of their meat taquitos.) Nonetheless I kept going because it was convenient. So every day for several months I held my breath before entering, got a coffee, and almost escaped before inhaling the nastiness. Today I went around 2 a.m. The sign on the door says OPEN 24 HOURS. They were closed for cleaning. Fine. Clean up that nasty smell. The cleaning man told me "Three minutes" so I waited outside... for 20 minutes. Then I returned to the door and stood there for five minutes. I said to the cleaner, "Tres minutos o veinte o...?" The main 7-11 employee said to him, "What's her problem?" and said to me, as if I were an idiot, "Do you see the sign? Closed for cleaning." I said, "Yeah, I see the sign. I also see the sign that says OPEN 24 HOURS, and he said to wait just three minutes. It's cold out here. Just be honest about how long it will take." The employee was an absolute jerk with no customer service skills whatsoever. I left and went to the 7-11 on Laurel, which never smells like crap. The employee there said, "There's no reason to close for cleaning. We don't do that here." Although people have been MURDERED at the Laurel Street 7-11, I would rather go there than deal with the jerk on Cardiff. read more

This 7-11 is so convenient because it is literally right outside where I live. It's always nice to get a cheap cup of coffee when you're studying and have it be walking distance, especially where coffee refills are only $1! The hotdogs don't every look fresh so I don't ever get them. They look crusty on the outside and there is no appeal to eat them at all. But the buffalo chicken rollers are always amazing! They have a deal right now where they are only $1!! Hop on it everyone!! There is this one worker who has glasses and is on the heavy side and is very mean. This one time I tried to buy a beer and he wouldn't let me because he claimed that my friend that was with me "touched the alcohol" so I couldn't buy it! She didn't even touch it and she's 21! Your usual 7-11 type of place. I love their burrito chicken rollers and steak and cheese taquitos! They have rotating staff and some of them are more polite/happy than others but it doesn't bother me much. It's just close to campus which is nice since I can just grab some coffee/snacks and i'll be on my way. They do stop selling alcohol at 11pm, as well as scratchers I think. Also, if you go to buy alcohol and you're friend is with you (21y/o or not), they might ask for both of your california IDs. Just be aware, the rather larger fellow with the glasses with card all of your friends if he has to! read more

It's 6 in the am, you have lots o work to get done before 9am, you need some coffee fast, and you don't want to take the chance of your fave coffee shop not being open. So where do you go? 7-eleven of course. Even though I am a coffee snob, I secretly love getting coffee here. Why? well, they have creamers in every flavor you could want and they have those fake french vanilla cappuccino machines. I like getting half coffee, half fake cappuccino, and adding some sort of flavored creamer (chocolate, irish cream, vanilla, amaretto, i change it up every time). Of course, if i were to get my coffee from a coffee shop I wouldn't have to doctor it up so much but I enjoy all this sugar in the morning when the pressure is on. No offense for the three stars. You are doing your job great 7-11 but at the end of the day you are still just that quickie replacement when I don't have time for the real thing. read more

The closest 7-Eleven joint near UCSC. They are famous for their Slurped, Nachos, Hot dogs, and taquitos woo hoo! I come here so often for miscellaneous things. Sometimes I get a scratcher and hopefully I win. They have Snacks, 5 hour energy shots and Slurpee. I came here for 7-Eleven's birthday which they were handing out free SLURPEE. Yes FREE! It's in a small cup, but better than nothing. I've moved many times in college and every time I move, I always coincidentally move near all the 7-11s in town. The one on Cardiff is the least ghetto and has the least crackheads within a half mile radius. The only downside is that there are always rich suburban underage kids in the front who ask you to buy alcohol. I use to come here every morning for coffee, but the quality is pretty low and I only bought it out of convenience. This is the absolute worse 7-11 I've ever been too. More specifically, in the morning. Back in my freshman days when I lived on campus at UCSC, I would come here at random times during the day/night. Now, if I go, it's usually in the morning before I have class at 8AM. This woman that works here in the morning is so mean, rude, and grumpy. I come in every now and then to just get a few items. The other day I came in and when I headed for the register she yelled out to someone "Why do these kids always have to come in here? I can't get anything done. I'm so grumpy, and now I won't get to refill the coffee because I have ring her up!" She is just not courteous at all and I really avoid coming here until later in the day. You don't need to be happy at work, but I don't think I deserved to get yelled at for buying gatorade? ice is so important. who wants to drink grey goose tonics with just 3 cubes or worse, the last bits ("crumbs") from the bottom of the near-empty ice bag? luckily (living on campus), 7-11 is right down at the base and getting a nice bag o' ice in a snap is easy peasy. don't underestimate the importance of ice when it comes to quality libations, folks! just make sure you snag a bag of ice and have room in your freezer to store it before your housemates pack the freezer full of trader joe's frozen foods. read more
