Great concept, terrible execution. The good: The theme seemed fun, the tables all were outfitted with tv's and game controllers, the disco floor light up while waiting to order. The menu offered a fun take on classics and even a few item that were unique. The bad: The food was awful. Incredibly over greasy, served up in a plastic container, and completely over priced. 3 orders of chicken tenders and a chicken sandwich should not be over $90. And if it is, it better live up to that kind of price tag. This did not. Also for added frustration, the games at the table were not setup properly for multi player gaming, even though there were 4 wired controllers each, non of the games seemed to work in 4 player mode. Had a nice experience on a Tuesday afternoon; the concept is pretty dope to me. Ordered a smash burger, chicken tenders, fries, tater tots and it was honestly yum! The games they offered had so much nostalgia to it and I appreciated that they had instructions for how to operate it. The music was banging too..I wanna come back to try their milkshakes. We got the 1/2 Squad which was $88 for 4 Burgers, 4 Chicken Wich', 6 Tenders, Cheese Fries or Tater Tots & 6 Sodas and we decided to get 4 shakes instead of 6 soda for 3 adults and 2 kids and we had some left overs. The retro concept It's very interesting; and I like that they have deals although the deals really don't matter much because you don't get the percentage off when it comes to it because they don't let you use a student deal(that is offered) when you get a milkshake day as an example. So if you want a deal, you have to go on an opposite day of whatever the deal of the day is or don't order that. (I hope that makes sense.) Also, there are several UP-CHARGES THAT ARE NOT COMMENSURATE BUT WAY TO MUCH! The food is tasteless and yucky and actually most of it is well overcooked I don't think the concept was poor, but the execution was horrible. Sometimes we have to think a little more and open our minds, especially when you're offering things you cannot deliver. No ice, certainly no mustard in a cheeseburger place very little mayonnaise. No hot sauce. All the staples are not available and for a kids place no kid items my kid can't do spicy so why not have something small for young kiddos? And although the games are lovely, they tend to not always work and/or It takes a while to figure out what you're playing because it's older. My boyfriend and I were in the area running an errand. It was time for lunch. I knew this place was nearby and suggested it. Upon walking in the sound from when Mario gets the mushroom played. Super cute! The employee also greeted us and went over the menu and lunch specials after hearing we've never been there. She was very welcoming! I went with the 2 tender lunch special with tots. It also came with a drink for $10. 2 tenders with tots was very filling. My boyfriend went with wings and fries. You can pick a dipping sauce and then a tossing sauce. You can also get your tossing sauce on the side. For my tossing sauce I got gochujang (on the side) and then 8-bit sauce to dip. My boyfriend chose BBQ sauce as his tossing sauce (on the side) and 8-bit sauce to dip. We were both happy with our sauce choices. I really enjoyed the tator tots. They had a great seasoning. This place has so much potential and we were rooting for it! Came here on a Friday night, after 8pm. The vibes were great with a retro gamed theme. You are able to order yourself on the screens or order at the register. We chose to order ourselves. It seemed that this night all of the staff was stressed with the amount of orders coming in and the un-organization. For a "fast food" place, we waited for over a half hour to get our food. While waiting, the manager on duty was constantly yelling at the cash register staff for everyone to hear, which seemed unprofessional. When our food was finally ready, our milkshakes weren't even started, so our food had to sit and get cold while we waited another 5-10mins for that. Once we grabbed our food and went home (very short drive) our food was cold. It sucks because it was delicious! I would really like to write a review about the food, but it seems someone else got my food, so maybe they can do it for me. Ordered a burger, fries, and boneless wings through DoorDash. After nearly an hour, my order was cancelled. Per the driver, the restaurant stated that my order was already picked up (not by my dasher, and not by me) and that they wouldn't make another one. I get that you can't be throwing money around left and right, but this was a mistake on the part of the restaurant, not me and not DoorDash. However the place was freezing, which I'm willing to let slide, but I had my two kids there, and they were blasting terrible explicit music, lots of cursing and talking about sex. Tried 8 bit bites on a weekend afternoon. It was busy but the wait for the food wasn't too long. We were able to find a table although there were many people after us that could not. The staff was fine. No one was rude but they weren't friendly either. Strangely enough, they were very robotic, just doing their job with no other interaction. The food was fresh, hot, and exactly how it was ordered. Everything was greasy. The tables, chairs, condiments, game controllers, just about everything. And although this is to be expected due to the large majority of the menu being fried in some way, I didn't see anyone cleaning anything from the time I arrived to the time I left, even after tables opened up. It was a fun experience and other than the greatness there weren't really any problems but I don't know that I will be returning anytime soon. Saw this place on TikTok, and since we're local, we figured we would give it a try. Definitely on point with theme - a gamers paradise. Staff was friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable. My husband ordered the double smash burger with fries and I ordered the single smash burger with Tater Tots. We both enjoyed the burgers very much. The fries and Tots were both seasoned. The fries were thin sliced, almost like a chip but still potato like. The tots had a great, crisp outside and tender potato texture inside. The only negative was the bacon on the double smash burger. Not sure what kind of bacon it was, but it was more like a smoky jerky, not great. This place definitely attracts families with kids, so be prepared for that. read more

I heard a few good things about 8 Bit Bites and it drew my attention to giving it a shot. I started off by getting their finger licking, mouth watering Honey Jerk BBQ Chicken Sandwich. It's as delicious as it sounds trust me. An all white meat chicken tender is coated with their famous house jerk house and trust me, they're very generous with this sauces and I have to say that you can have 2/3 in a seating haha! It has a little kick to it but it's not overpowering. Secondly, it probably made its way to be my favorite sandwich of old time, tell me how good this sounds, Hungry Man Wich, an egg and cheese, loaded with their 8 bit bites sauce and has browns and BACON! Yes BACON! Working together to create this Perfect combo of yum and wow! Truly a massive Sandwich for those that don't eat enough! Haha! When you walk into 8 bit bites it brings you back to the early 1990s, where Tetris meets Mortal Kombat and super Mario! When you walk in, and please guys WATCH YOUR STEP, they have a dance revolution flooring so it makes it seems like you're moving and grooving while ordering some bomb sandwiches that'll leave you drooling! I know I am an AH for trying but based on two Newsday glowing reviews and passing the store anyway, I want to try their "grilled onion for a bun" idea, called the "Flying Dutchman" I asked if there was a turkey or chicken burger option (that's my AH part). Question got lost in translation between the counter & kitchen. A few time back and forth and thought I was told chicken burger was available. But I got 2 fried chicken tenders with cheese instead. Silly me and my fault for even asking. Newsday said Tater Tots instead of the Fries as it comes with. FOUR dollar surcharge to substitute and they were overcooked and hard. Seems excessive given that you don't get the fries as well. I shut up and ate parts of both. I could see where this would be tasty with a beef burger if that is what you want. But get the bun, ask for the onion on top, make sure its not for a $4 substitution fee. When paying by credit card, you get the screens begging for tips at various (higher) rates. You feel shame if you click away looking for no tip (its self service) and I did 18% anyway. Then I realized the absurdity of adding a tip BEFORE tasting the food and receiving any limited service (they deliver the food). That is nuts. Try to remember that at other places where you pay in advance. I did get a plastic fork when asked at the table. Fork shattered the hard tater tots instead of spearing it. Only napkins and ketchup on the tables. The ambiance is cool and would be great for kids 8 & up and anyone who isn't picky about what they eat. Again, my mistake. Finally, there is a huge rubber mat on the floor as you enter and with a 2-3 inch lip you have to step up & over. Its indistinguishable and if your eyes are looking to the big menu board as you walk to the counter, you're not going to see it. Someone is going trip and get very hurt (think of older people.) Its a little more noticeable from the dining area direction. Owners, you have been warned. read more

I really want to love this place. I love the whole concept of a retro Decor it looked amazing reminded me of Saved by the Bell which was completely part of my childhood. I love the idea of the games on every table so that you didn't feel like you're going to fight for any space. Just walking in with the colorful dance floors was very fun. I really did enjoy my cheeseburger which was simple but delicious. I was very excited for some loaded french fries with I believe it was there in Nashville chicken which is a hotter chicken. Honestly this is where it dropped the ball for me. I was very disappointed the flavor was off and I just wanted to think that it was the chicken. However I had somebody else's fries that came with their meal and it was plain, it was the fries in general they just aren't good. I would really not recommend the french fries. But for me having a burger and fries just makes sense. We also had a Fruity Pebbles milkshake which was very Bland no flavor. I would recommend that they put a couple of drops of vanilla extract into it just to give it a little something something. We did enjoy the games because we did go early and we had the ability to move around to any spot we wanted. But sadly we had to move a couple of times because the consoles or the TVs weren't working. It is a little confusing so I highly recommend following the directions that are provided with the QR code rather than get frustrated. Like I said we were lucky we were able to move around but I could assume that if it's really busy and all the tables are filled you wouldn't have the same luxury so making sure all the devices work is really important. He even helped us with the gaming system as 2 stations weren't working properly for the arcade games. I enjoyed having wet ones to while the controllers. I love tater tots and I was elated that was an option to replace the fries. Even though the fries were very good and unconventional. They looked like thick chips. The burger was eh, nothing special but their chicken tenders were juicy and crispy. I loved having an option of rub. The best part was the pricing. Even though the burger was underwhelming, it was only $6. I also really enjoyed their desert shakes. You have a selection of a few cereals or Oreos and at a price point of $7, it's a steal. They do need to ensure the stations are all working and nicer bathrooms would really make this restaurant top notch read more

Went to check out 8 Bit Bites in Centereach after seeing a foodie page review it on Instagram. Upon walking in the space was retro and took you back to the 80's/90's. The light up floor catches your eye the second you walk in. I would highly suggest they get a rug grip for the welcome mat someone walked in and it flipped over and they nearly tripped. The music is a mix of 80's and 90's and each table has free video game play. I decided to order take out as I was in the area and wanted to give the place a try. The girls working the counter seemed very overwhelmed which I assume was the reason they looked miserable and like they wanted no part in being there. While waiting for my food there was a decent amount of people waiting to order along with others waiting for the shakes to come out. One man had been waiting a while for a new burger as his came out wrong. The manager offered him a free beverage for the mistake which I thought was generous. I ordered the smash burger with no pickles and no 8 but sauce. The burger was supposed to have onions, lettuce, and tomato but upon opening it had just onions and cheese. Kinda disappointing but wasn't that big of a deal. The burger itself was pretty good, small but good! I liked the burger the most out of everything I had ordered. I also got the Nashville hot chicken tenders. They were smothered in sauce which to most is good but for me it was way too much sauce I ended up not even finishing them. Next time I will make sure to ask for the sauce on the side so I can determine how much sauce is enough sauce. Lastly I got the loaded fries. The fries are topped with onions, bacon, cheese, and jalapeños. I like the jalapeños especially because they were fresh jalapeños and not pickled. The cheese was good, my only downfall here is the bacon. It was very chewy and undercooked. If you're looking for a side of fries unfortunately they only come in size large and extra large. Maybe all these mistakes were because they are fairly new and still working out the kinks of the place. For now I won't be going back as the food wasn't worth it to me. This is a less than average 8 bit bites. I really enjoy 8 bit bites and I recommend it fairly often. I've had it a few times in different stores in New York City. I got the combo smash burger double patty with tator tots. I asked for extra seasoning on the tots. That didn't happen. It had hardly any. The double burger tasted way way too salty. It made it not very enjoyable to eat it and I hate wasting food but I ended up throwing 25 percent of it away. read more

Stopped here on a Friday around 11:15am. Early for lunch but kids can eat chicken fingers at any time right? ‍ It was our first time and we were excited. Upon opening the door, we were greeted with a loud video game noise (the door chime) which if you don't know it's coming, may startle you! A child in crocs almost stepped on a sharp screw that was right past the door jam. I grabbed it and handed to the girl at the cash register who could care less. There is a sign on the door telling you to watch your step because the floor inside is a different height than the sidewalk. We wanted to sit down to enjoy the games at the tables but it was too hot inside. We had to take our food to go and eat it in the car. I'm assuming the air conditioning didn't have time to kick in, but I have no idea what time they opened because there was no sign for that when we pulled up to look. We were handed a greasy, plastic menu that by the same girl who was not very welcoming and ordered chicken fingers and fries. I asked if there was seasoning on the fries and I was told no. I asked if the chicken fingers were spicy and was told no. We waited a good 10-14 minutes, which was fine. We sat on a ledge in front of the parking lot window. The fries and the chicken were put in the same container. They put napkins, a fork and ketchup packets in a cool paper bag. We opened the food and it was piping hot and smelled good. The fries were not traditional fries, rather, sliced potato pieces, some with skins still on. They were good, except COVERED in seasoning. The kids were like "nope". The chicken fingers were big and juicy inside. They too, had seasoning on the inside, under the fried coating. There was a small bit of heat in the rub but tasted and smelled like a smoked paprika blend. It was good. Thankfully the kids tried it and nibbled at it until there was hardly any left. While waiting for our food, other cutstomers came in to order for the first time and were asking questions also...one being if there was a lunch special. It was confusing because there was no menu on a wall or signs anywhere. If you didn't know anything about the place, you were forced to ask someone who really didn't feel like answering. 2 chicken fingers with potatoes = $11.00. No drink included. Will we go back? Maybe if in that strip of stores. But probably won't go out of our way. It's a shame because the idea has so much potential but I feel that the employees and the location and the lack of attention to detail are what will stop people from coming back. Put a menu up on one of the 4 TV's instead of video game clips on each one. Put up a sign with the hours as many people drive past the door. Know that there is seasoning on everything before serving children who may not like that. (No kids menu, btw). And please, have the employees be more welcoming...a smile goes a long way. This place recently opened in Centereach by the Centereach Walmart (closer to middle country rd). People were very anxious about them coming based on their Facebook presence. So today was my first time trying them out. When you open the door, the pac-man music kicks in. It has a nice retro vibe with video games that can be played while at your tables. I was running errands today so I decided just on a sandwich. I got the chicken sandwich which comes with lettuce, tomato, and sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly, vegetables were fresh, and that sauce has an original and crave-able taste to it. Next time I'll definitely try a combo and a burger but this was great. The first time I ordered from this restaurant, the food was delicious. The second time I ordered was very different. The food tasted OK the second time, but the Smashburger was a sloppy mess and the other items I ordered were as good as they were the first time. This is something that I find very very frequently in local restaurants and fast food chains. Starts out great and then goes downhill and crashes. We ordered 2 of the smash burger 10$ lunch deals one with tots one with fries. Both burgers were cooked well and we loved the 8 bit sauce that comes on them. Both the fries and tots had a nice crunch to them and we got a side of the Nashville hot sauce to dip in which was right up our alley. We played a few games while waiting for our food. Each table was set up with four controllers and a QR code to scan above the table with easy instructions. Will definitely be stopping by again! read more
