The food was fantastic -- a very flavorful twist on Gumbo (all of the richness and depth, without the stew like consistency), one of the best She Crab soups in town, wonderful vegetarian options with the beet salad and the roasted butternut squash entree. The over-hyped She Crab soup was mediocre at best. Hardly any crab in it unlike other places I have tried. Lemonade tastes like cool aid or one of those powder ones you buy at a grocery store (way too sweet). Salad greens were rotten we had to pick out 20% of it. The dressing which was suppose to taste like balsamic tasted like tasteless oil. Tomato pie was literally Mac and Cheese with tomatoes. Nothing more. Tiny portion. Way way Over priced. Disappointing, this used to be such a great restaurant (over 20 years ago). We ate lunch on the porch and the skylights were unappetizingly filthy. The water for my wife's hot tea was lukewarm. Both soups were too salty, one to the point of too much so to eat. They did not charge us for that. We both had the fried chicken breast over grits special, which was not special at all. Little flavor in the grits, and my wife commented that the chicken at Bojangle's is better. Was not the best $60 I've spent. Crab cake, mussels, and shrimp & grits were some of the best we've eaten. Being from Maryland my husband and I are picky about our crab cakes but luckily our server was also from MD and gave us the scoop on the crab meat, which was not lump back fin so the texture is different from what we're used to. I took my mom to 82 Queen for Mother's Day and it's turned out to be a great experience. We went for brunch and I made reservations for 10am which was nice because it wasn't too crowded or busy yet. They had an abbreviated menu for this day but still had enough choices to make for a difficult decision.We ordered a basket of biscuits and because I make awesome biscuits (thanks to the Kitchenista) I'm pretty critical of other biscuits. These were really good. They were warm and light and fluffy, not too dense and not too sweet. For the entree I ordered the Crispy Flounder and Grits and my mom ordered the breakfast bowl. I was a little nervous about the "crispiness" of the flounder but the fish was fried perfectly, not hard or too crispy at all. The grits were a little too thick for my liking but they had a nice cheesy flavor. My mom loved her breakfast bowl (I had a taste and it was pretty delicious). Overall we both enjoyed our meals and I'd definitely return to try out the dinner menu. Also, our server, Zach was wonderful. Went here last night with a few friends because I've heard great reviews. The food took forever. The appetizer took about 45 minutes. I ordered the crab cakes, which had no flavor. My husband ordered the Valentines special which was a steak with a coffee chocolate sauce. The steak was actually good, but they loaded on the chocolate sauce so it over-powered the steak. Our guests ordered the fried chicken and the shrimp and grits, they were not pleased with any of this. We were all very disappointed with the food and service we got for the price we paid. This place is AMAZING!!! My husband and I went here while staying in Charleston for our one year anniversary. To start we ordered the pickled okra fries, OUT OF THIS WORLD! The ultimate comfort though came from the warm cheese and garlic biscuits served before and throughout the meal. Scrumptious! My husband and I both ordered the Jumbalya, which the staff were happy to make without sausage for me. It was absolutely delicious, with plenty of buttery crawfish, local shrimp and savory veggies. This restaurant has long been a favorite of ours when we visit the city. Today was disappointing. The host staff and wait staff seemed like kids working at a summer job their parents made them get. Not rude - but not friendly, indifferent.they spent time chatting in the corner while we waited for drink refills - never asked us if we were enjoying our food etc. we waited awhile to get there attention so we decided to skip the dessert - they never mentioned it or asked if we wanted anything else. Today I went to get brunch with my boyfriend and unfortunately I fell ill before my food even came! But, our waiter, Stephan was so nice and attentive. The food came out super quick and was delicious. My boyfriend got the southern fried chicken and biscuits and said it was amazing. Since I was sick, I could only eat a couple bites of my chicken salad wrap, but it was also very yummy. Stephan knew I was sick and treated me very graciously. Such amazing service and food. This restaurant had beautiful outdoor seating. The staff was nice and professional. However, the food left a lot to be desired. I started off my meal with the berry mojito. It was very bitter. I had a hard time finishing it. I order mojitos often so have a lot to compare it too. My daughters drink was delicious though, Charleston Breeze. I started off the meal with the "famous" she crab soup, which was not good! The consistency was very thick and slimy , and I tasted no actual crab meat in soup. I could only eat a couple of bites . For dinner I ordered the tomato pie which was recommended by someone, but it tasted like tomatoes with melted cheese and bacon on top . The tomatoes were not ripe and hard and a lot of bacon. Bacon is all I tasted. The pie didn't have any crust .I assume it was supposed to have ? I think it was supposed to be cooked a little longer to soften tomatoes. My daughter let me have some of her dish, the roasted portobello mushroom . It was ok. The vegetables and mushrooms seemed over cooked . I was still hungry as I did not finish either of my dishes ,so I asked the waitress for some bread which was supposed to be brought out before the meal but she told us biscuits was still cooking . I tried to fill up on biscuits because I did not want to spend the evening hungry and with an empty stomach . I would not recommend this restaurant. Everyone that I asked recommended this place and it did not disappoint. First, let's start with the She crab soup. Life changing. Rich, creamy, and a nice bite from the dry sherry drizzled on top. Super balanced and nice pieces of crab in it. The fried green tomatoes were a perfect combination of crunchy, tangy, sweet, cheesy, and savoriness. Thick, rich grits on the bottom, two perfectly fried green tomatoes, tomato bacon jam and a big dollop of pimento cheese. One stop shopping. I had the bbq shrimp and grits (because can't get enough of those). Perfectly balanced with the cheddar grits, salty bacon and the sweetness from the bourbon bbq sauce. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. No wonder it's been on the menu since 1982 and they haven't changed the recipe. If it's not broke, don't fix it! We finished with the bourbon pecan pie and creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was good, maybe not the best I've had but definitely a decent one. The pecan pie, however, was to die for. I often find pecan pies cloying sweet. This one was not. Perfectly sweet with a hint of bourbon and crunchy pecans. A finish of homemade whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce, made this an amazing desert. I would definitely come back. The atmosphere was also great! read more
