CAKE SLICES WERE A DISAPPOINTMENT: My family ultimate favorite is the chocolate mousse cake. We usually purchase from the Cerritos and Buena Park locations - they never disappoint. It was my first time to the Cypress location yesterday evening and being that the chocolate mousse is something we always get and is always delicious we assumed everything else would be the case plus my kids each wanted to try the other cakes so we bought a variety of about 10 slices rather than our usual whole cake. I tried the chocolate mousse slice it was such a disappointment because the sponge part of it tasted really dry. All the other slices tasted dry as well like they sat for a period of time. I made a complaint to the manager this morning and he ensured that they uphold the standards and quality of their cakes and apologized (insincerely as if I was making it up). We had a bit of every slice and they all tasted old, dry and the cream parts weren't great and slightly hardened. We had a bit of each slice but threw the rest away. Since when was Sea Salt Mountain Green Tea on the menu? This drink is bomb! I had pretty much stopped going to this bakery ever since they started opening everywhere. Until my coworker told me about the sea salt mountain tea drink. I had to try it since I grew up drinking high mountain tea and it was really good. Although this is one of the smaller stores I've been to, it wasn't overly crowded compared to the bigger stores, despite me going during lunch hour. My husband and I put I a preorder in for two cakes to be picked up at Christmas. When I got there to pick up our two cakes, they said they were out of one of the cakes I had preordered (the Yule log). I don't understand how they can be sold out of a cake I "PREORDERED" a week in advance. I took my daughter here for the 1st time after winning student of the month. We got there around 1pm wasn't too busy. It was so awesome how you get your own tray and tongs and walk around the bakery and pick what you want. It's near by, so it's not too bad to pop in. The size coffee they have for hot is pretty small. You can't add your own creamer, they do it for you and we're still not sure what they actually use. Place is PACKED with a bunch of jr. High/high school kids. It's smaller than the Cerritos location and kids took ALL the chairs and were in one corner. Cannot tell where the line starts (signs would be helpful) way too packed and takes too long to pack up each pastry which makes the line go even slower on top of annoying kids talking loudly in the background. The coffee and bread is nothing special?. I've never experienced terrible customer service like this ever. I was amazed at how rude the cashiers are. I went in hungry, bought a 4 dollar coffee and some bread. I'm not sure if it was both of the cashier's appearances or attitudes that made me lose my appetite. This is a new shop in the city of Cypress located near Valley View/Orange and the place to try a new bakery item. 85 Degree Bakery and Café has pastry items that have flavors styles that are reflective of Taiwanese, Japanese, Danish, European, and others. There are additional places to eat such as a burger, pizza, and an ice cream shop will be opening soon. The shop provides a variety of hot and cold drinks that include: sea salt beverage, espresso beverage, tea, non-caffeinated drinks, smoothies/slushies, and several drink add-ons. I enjoyed a Japanese style pastry called "coffee with butter" and an "Americano" coffee which both were very good. The shop opens at 7am (will become very busy on week days, since the shop is next door to Cypress High School (also near Cypress College) and traffic can be very busy during school sessions). Honestly I have to say this was a huge disappointment... My boyfriend and I came in to order some desserts and they looks so beautiful and pleasing but when it came to the taste... it was awful. The cheesecake had zero flavor and their chocolate roll cake tasted like a twinkie!! The service is pretty terrible as well. We asked one of the girls where we could get a box/bag to pick our dessert and she said to ask the cashier to get it for us so when we told the cashier what we wanted she rudely said "you have to get it yourself". This location isn't as big as the one off the Diamond Jamboree center in Irvine, which is actually nice because a smaller location means limited seating, and gets more people to order to go. I haven't had any problems with the staff or with their pastries. I normally just order the brioche bread, milk pudding bun, a couple of egg tarts and hokkaido cheese tarts and if I'm thirsty, their milk teas and I'm in and out. The prices are very inexpensive and I sometimes end up buying a lot, but it's great to bring over for any party or gathering. During the weekday, around 230ish is when this place gets pretty packed because of the High School kids that come after school. So I would suggest coming here before that time or an hour later to beat the crowd. read more

My first experience at this chain was at the Cypress soft grand opening a few weeks ago. I loved it. So many goodies from which to choose. I asked what the most popular items were and opted for both savvy and sweet pastries. I really enjoyed my selection and will try something from the refrigerated case soon. My favorite so far is the potato and cheese pastry--creamy, flavorful mashed potatoes inside a flakey triangle-shaped pastry topped with cheddar cheese. The cinnamon twist was also very good. Haven't tried any of the drinks, maybe next time. As others have noted, I don't like that every item is individually packaged. I asked to combine items when possible. He seemed reluctant to do so and I saved not using just one baggy in the process. The employees were okay, not super friendly but that won't stop me from going back. This is the closest location to my home. I've been here periodically for a quick comfort snack. Although service is a tad slow, I did enjoy the food and beverage quality that these staffs have to offer. I've been to 85 degree bakery before and I'm never disappointed up until now! I bought their Hokkaido Cheese Tart, Egg Tart, Sea Salt Coffee Smoothie, & Milk Tea. Once I checked out and got my drinks I brought my pastries home. I started eating the cheese tart and as I was almost finished with it, I find a piece of hair in it! Currently filled with disgust so just watch out for that whenever you're eating their food. It tastes great and love the texture but the strand of hair ruined it. This location does not and you have to wait in line behind the 20 plus people in front of you and wait for the employees to individually pack each pastry. Somewhat disappointed with this location because of the new staff. I ordered a brown sugar latte with no whipped cream and yet they gave me whipped cream. When I went back to correct the order, the girl making the drinks simply said it was a new recipe. I'm well aware that the brown sugar latte is a new drink and whipped cream is included in it, which is why I ordered it without it. I kind of expected her to redo my drink since many cafes do it but the girl simply opened my cup and put the coffee in another one. When she handed it to me, she said "is that better?". 4 stars for the pastry, 3 stars for drinks and -1 for the boba. Their boba tastes hard and old. They blame it on the drinks being cold or frozen but it's not true. If you serve fresh boba, it would still be soft and chewy when you first taste the drink. If I kept my drink over a long time without drinking it, then yes, the boba will harden.
