85 degrees C is a chain that gained high recognition in Taiwan and has recently made its ways to an overseas customer base. The tapioca balls here differ than other places, since they seemed to have infused it with a light coffee and sugar flavor to complement any of the tea drinks. Many boba places have a problem with getting the orders exactly right (ie light on the sugar, no ice etc) but the employees here seem to nail it on the spot every time. The bread is mediocre, but not bad at all. Compared with locations in Taiwan, there is not as much variety. But that is probably because 85 degrees C has selected items that will have an appeal to people with a heavier taste palette than others. The atmosphere is relaxed but can become quite hectic during peak hours, especially on the weekend. I recommend trying one bread item and one drink before moving on to desserts, to really experience 85. A standard milk tea with boba and the cinnamon bread are good choices for first timers. Those with 85 experience, especially in Taiwan, will find that these 85 shops abroad excel in service and quality compared with the ones you find next to smelly train stations on the island. read more

The breads and pastries have always been good to me at 85° bakery, no matter what the location. The most important part to me is their consistency. Whichever location I go, I know they will have the exact same breads and they are made in the exact same way. My favorite breads are the ones that have chocolate and the ones that have taro in them. The taro roll is a pretty big bread that has a taro filling in it it. The taro filling has a consistency that is close to mung bean paste. Another favorite of mine is a Choco bun. The egg tart is a classic that is usually pretty popular. I have seen them run out on many occasions. I would be remiss if did not give a mention to their drinks. 85 is one of those places I can't get enough of. I always say it's like the Asian version of Porto's (although nothing could qui5e compare to Portos). People will tell me that 85 is overrated and overhyped but I don't care, it's so good!! I've always been a huge fan of Korean bakeries, and even though 85 is not that, you really can't beat the prices for the quality of bread here. My favorites are the egg and cheese tarts, the brioche, and the almond apple danish. I seriously have dreams about the tarts, and I've gone multiple times during lockdown just to pick them up because I'm craving them so bad. They also used to have this maple toast that I would get all the time, although I haven't seen it in a hot minute. I tried this location on 23 Feb. 2024. I was disappointed to say the least. The service was way under expected. I picked up a sausage croissant with cheese, and hot black coffee. Once I tried the sausage croissant, it was cold, the cheese seemed not fresh - the snack did not taste good. I walked back to the counter and asked an attendant to heat the croissant. The attendant replied, they were not allowed to do that. I went back to our table, took another bite, was disgusted, and returned to the counter, put the peace on the counter, and asked the attendant to trash it because it was no good. I believe the attendant did not have the sense, and/or was not trained properly, to apologize and offer other options. I shall never return there and suggest others not to use this establishment. Our customer service in this country is suffering because of such businesses. Avoid this establishment. read more

Cakes and other dessert items are also lighter in structure and you won't find many heavy creams here. Drink items are your Asian teas and modern boba/bubble milk tea concoctions. There is coffee, but it really isn't good coffee. Additional flavors and additions are a bit chemically. But I do love some of their buns and individually portioned desserts. The Red Bean Buns, Ham and Cheese, Milk Buns, and bread are excellent. The selections can be overwhelming at first, but soon you'll find a favorite or two if you explore. I am very disappointed on the new item, Taro Mochi Boroh. With the size that big the amount of filling is considered extremely little! If you were to gather all the taro outside the bun and inside the filling, it's probably about 2ml of teaspoon, may be even less! The mochi in the middle is like a lump of sticky glue, no texture or taste of mochi what so ever! Besides the color is like taro, I didn't taste the flavor of taro. I visited 85 with my partner today to grab two slices of cake for her birthday. We ordered from the kiosk because we wanted to restrict contact with others as much as possible. We ordered at 5:39pm and waited 20 minutes for 2 slices of pre-made cake. Normally, I am okay with waiting a bit for my food because I know that the store gets busy. However, the store had fewer than 10 customers at the time. In addition to the lack of foot traffic, my partner tried to grab the attention of the baristas and they ignored her to take orders for people in line. To add insult to injury, I saw the baristas that ignored my partner remake drinks for unsatisfied customers that came in after us. I would have to say this place is a solid 4 even before the covid situation just based on some inconsistencies with the baking. For example, the egg tart sometimes looks a lot darker (almost burnt?) or will be baked perfectly which makes me question some of the quality control. There also seems to be a tendency for certain pastries to run out regardless of the crowd of people. Currently there are less items out for sale but the refrigerated desserts and cakes seem fully stocked. The app also offers some discounts and a friend of mine ended up redeeming an award that allowed for discounted beverage (85 coffee for $2!). Normally, it would be between $3-4 for the 85 iced coffee which has a strong coffee flavor and you can also tweak the ice content and sweetness like most boba places. I also usually like ordering the egg tarts or hokkaido cheese tarts (just under $2) which may sometimes look a bit overcooked or taste kind of off, but the other breads/pastries are generally very consistent and taste fresh. 85 definitely seems to take safety seriously as they asked a customer to leave that tried to enter without a mask during this age and time. There are clear ground stickers in the store to show where to line up when waiting in queue to pay. Really great place to pick up some carbs and if they just address a couple issues it would definitely be a 5 star joint! read more

Try to avoid going around lunch or dinner time on the weekends. My favorite thing to get from here is the brioche. It's light and buttery, but full of flavor too! Most of their breads are delicious! The marble taro bread is good too and not overly sweet. I like to get the desserts like the mango bomb and the jelly cup as well. Stay away from the cakes though. They are beautifully made but are a bit too soft and moist for me. I don't drink coffee, but my friend likes the sea salt coffee here. I've had some of their teas and boba, and am not a fan.
